There have been many imitators, but only Jackie Collins can tell you what really goes on in the fastest lane of all. From Beverly Hills bedrooms to a raunchy prowl along the streets of Hollywood; from glittering rock parties and concerts to stretch limos and the mansions of power brokers-Jackie Collins chronicles the real truth from the inside looking out.

Jackie Collins has been called a "raunchy moralist" by the late director Louis Malle and "Hollywood's own Marcel Proust" by Vanity Fair magazine. With over 500 million copies of her books sold in more than forty countries, and with some 30 New York Times bestsellers to her credit, Jackie Collins is one of the world's top-selling novelists. She is known for giving her readers an unrivalled insider's knowledge of Hollywood and the glamorous lives and loves of the rich, famous, and infamous. "I write about real people in disguise," she says. "If anything, my characters are toned down-the truth is much more bizarre."

Jackie Collins died of breast cancer Saturday, September 19, 2015. Jackie Collins, who had kept her illness secret, said recently that she believed in an afterlife, that she had no regrets and that she had emulated Frank Sinatra in that “I did it my way.”

This was my 1st Jackie Collins.
And it was everything I thought it would be and more.

It was horrible. Horrible to the point that it seemed like I was reading a parody. Except parodies are usually funny and this one just made me kinda sick.

description

The characters in this thing.
Everyone was this Carrington Dynasty level of faux glamorous that I thought went out in the 80s.
The dialogue was...I have no words for what I endured.
Well, one word springs to mind. Torture.
You don't need thumbscrews or bamboo under the fingernails. You could just play this audiobook and break someone's mind.
There's a Madonna/Cheresque character who unironically refers to herself in the 3rd person.
YOU READ THAT CORRECTLY.

description

You know what? No. Just...no.
I don't want to talk about this anymore with anyone but my therapist.
However.
This isn't my kind of book. And it wasn't something that I ever would have willingly picked out on my own, so take my opinions with a grain of salt if this genre is your jam.

Just kidding. If I had the option to give this less than one star, I would!

Buddy read with Alexander of the Peterhans. I will never forgive you for this.

I do not understand the raving reviews about this terrible, terrible book. I picked it up thinking that since someone was murdered there would be a good mystery mixed with drama. Granted, I've never read a Jackie Collins book, so I was unprepared for such a fluffy, trashy read. It was made even more disgusting to me when I realized that this author is my grandmother's age. Yep, this raunchy stuff is being written by a 75 year old woman. Needless to say I will not be reading another one of her books. I feel cheated that I wasted my time reading this instead of something truly entertaining.

The characters were poorly developed and I didn't care about one of them. The author also took liberty with basic facts that, in my opinion, demonstrates inattention to detail. One thing that really irked me is that Denver was described as being a 25 year old attorney with 3 years of experience. I guess Jackie Collins doesn't realize that one needs at least a bachelor's degree plus 3 more years of legal education to become an attorney, so it was impossible for Denver to have so much experience, unless she graduated high school/college 3 years early. It also mentioned Denver having a 4 year old Camaro, which was also impossible because they stopped being made in 2002. Random fact that most Jackie Collins readers probably don't know or care about, but this inattention to detail is just annoying and diminishes the writer's and editor's credibility.

Also, the dialogue was hackneyed and did ring true with the way these characters would speak to one another. It seemed like the author just sprinkled in designer names like "Cartier" and "Louboutin" with some references to celebrities to try to make it sound glamorous. Maybe it's because I live in Los Angeles and I see glamorous people all the time (though I definitely do not run in those social circles), but this book just sounded so inauthentic.

Don't get me wrong, I like an easy read sometimes. I especially like such books when they're set in Los Angeles. I don't even mind sex in a book, but that seemed to be all the characters thought about and it wasn't even well written. But hey, if you're looking for a mindless read featuring flat characters, an almost nonexistent plot and some sexual encounters written by a 75 year old woman then this is the book for you!

What a stupid book. I wanted something trashy to read on a cruise, but this wasn't even fun. Stupid characters, stupid plot - not even any good sex scenes. And what the hell was with the Madonna/Cher character (Zeena) who talked about herself in third person? I rolled my eyes through any chapter in which she was featured. I'll give it an extra star just for holding my attention on the plane - I held in there to see if everything would be wrapped up neatly without any of these "outrageous" people being held accountable for being morons.

Daaaaamn this was some addictive trash.

There's a loose plot here about rich Annabelle's mother being murdered, and this reunites friends that have been separated for years. But let's face it - mostly it's all about the sordid details of the lives of the rich. Which I am 100% here for, in case that wasn't evident.

Drugs, alcohol, sex, affairs, scandals, violence ... this sh*t is WILD.

The characters all suck - almost all of them seem to exist solely to get laid, and they're all constantly talking about the opposite sex like they're pieces of meat, so feminists won't want to touch this stuff. The men are mostly disgusting pigs but even our female protagonists are all about using men for their own needs. There's basically nothing redeemable about any of these characters.

The story, as mentioned, is pretty thin, but it does involve multiple viewpoints which allows us to thoroughly explore these lives. I enjoyed this, although Denver's chapters being in first person annoyed me A LOT. Firstly, WHY? and secondly, the tense was all over the place. What a terrible writing choice by the author.

Buuuuut ... If you don't take it too seriously and just let the ridiculousness of all this drama wash over you, it's actually pretty fun. Let's face it - we all love a glimpse into the sordid lives of the obscenely wealthy, right?

This little piece of rich kid drama is exactly what I needed. Trash, but exceptionally entertaining trash.

This is the first book I read by Jackie Collins and I can definitely say it won’t be the last.
Denver, the main protagonist, a hot shot attorney working in L.A. finds herself in the path of old school mates: Carolyn, Annabel and Bobby. Carolyn, Denver’s best friend ever since high school, is the personal assistant of a married senator with whom she is having an affair. Annabel, the daughter of 2 major Hollywood movie stars, is the “poor little bitch girl” who is now living in NYC with her cocaine addict boyfriend Frankie Romano with whom she is running the illicit business of call girls. And Bobby is the owner of Mood, the hottest club in New York, and Frankie’s best friend.
When Annabel’s mother is found dead in her own bedroom and Annabel’s father is a prime suspect, the quartet is brought back together.
Jackie Collins manages to come up with so many characters, each interesting in their own way. And although the stories at first have nothing to do with each other, soon all the stories are brought together.
My favorite character was Denver and I just loved that she and Bobby are brought together at the end. Another thing I liked about the end was that Collins told what happened with each and every character giving us a closure so no questions are left unanswered.
The novel is sexy, fun and enjoyable from beginning to end.

This was probably the worst book I've ever read cover to cover. The writing was juvenile, and even for chick lit there was absolutely no redeeming quality about it for me. The fact that Denver was supposed to be a lawyer with the way she talked/acted was laughable. The entire thing basically made me feel like anyone can write a book, stick some celebrity references in it, and have a hit.

As much as I couldn't put this book down, I hated it. Every character was boring, contrived and overdone. Every situation was predictable. The sexiness synonymous with Jackie is missing. I am tempted to believe that a ghost writer wrote this story and just stuck her name on the cover. I was very disappointed in the poor plot, 2D characters, overdone settings and cliched themes. Overall a bad read I won't be tempted back to her books unfortunately.

This book was passed onto me by my mother in law and it was pretty raunchy. It was my first Jackie Collins book, and probably my last. Even though the story line and characters kept my interest, it was a little too soap opera for me and I wasn't impressed by the writing.

Loved it!!!!!, March 16, 2010

This review is from: Poor Little Bitch Girl (Hardcover)
I have never read Jackie Collins before this book, but I will definately read more! I loved this book! This book reminded me a lot of Candace Bushnell's books (she wrote Sex and the City). I enjoyed her books also! I loved how all the characters came together. My favorite character by far was Denver. I felt like Annabelle and Carolyn didn't have much substance to them, but Devner hit the spot for me. I was secretly routing for her and Bobby to meet up and hook up and was so glad when they finally did! I loved that this book was very real and raw and to the point! I finished this book in 2 days because I could not put it down! I loved how she told what happened with all the people at the end also which gave the readers closure. I also liked how most everyone who had it comming to them got theirs...Spoiler: Carolyn got what she deserved for sleeping with a married man, Ramirez's brother got what was coming to him for all his wrong doings, Rosa got hers for stealing Carolyn's purse...everyone but Gregory...and that I hated!

Spoiler* My only complaints about the book is that Carolyn didn't get at least some kind of revenge on Gregory! After what that man did to her I wanted her to at least turn him in or have choice words for him or something! Also, I wished Dever and Bobby would have hooked up sooner in the book. I would have loved to have more of them and felt like as soon as they got together the book ended! Other than that though...it was an awesome book!

I love love love the Lucky series and was excited to pick up this copy from the library because it continued with a Santangelo via Bobby..sry to say fans but I wasn't too thrilled with reading through this book. Usually, it takes me less than a day to finish her book but this one took 3..was so not a fan of Denver's backwards ass..thoughts of Josh (ex) and hooking up w/two diff men back to back but all of a sudden she has eyes for her hs crush Bobby and "chemistry" happens between them? I was more thrilled and convinced when Lucky and Lenny hooked up..Carolyn deserved everything that happened to her..I swear I would've skipped her part if it wasn't for Gregory and Benito were entertaining even tho as soon as gang was mentioned, I knew what was to come..Annabelle was crazy fun and I had hoped that somehow in some twisted way they would've got together but alas, wasn't meant to be..wasn't a fan of Frankie (a loser)..what Zeena had announced to the audience had me DYING! one of the best parts of the story!

This is a book you have to be in the mood for. I was coming of a 5 book dystopian roll and I needed something to take my mind off the obvious impending dystopian take over of all my literary favors. And this was it. This was the first book I have ever read written by Jackie Collins AND this is a series that I was able to jump into with the latest edition and not feel like I am missing the back story. I enjoyed stepping out of my comfort zone for a little while. The writing is great, I mean it's Jackie Collins she KNOWS where her bread is buttered. There are many characters in this book and she switches between them quickly, so I recommend reading this one when you have the time to focus on it. It was easier in audiobook form because there was a flow, and also 3 actors reading the book portraying the characters.

But there was a couple I kind of wanted to end up together and .......I'm not holding my breath. Hey who knows?? Maybe in the next one.

I listened to this on BOCD. Truly one of the silliest, trampiest, uninspired things I've ever experienced. Worse yet, it almost put me to sleep! I have a new appreciation for Joan Collins now: she truly IS the "talented" Collins!

- This book is hard to explain without spoilers so be warned!

"Pretty Little Bitch Girl" by Jackie Collins is a confusing mesh of three different plots that really don't intersect or have much to do with each other, except for the fact that the characters know each other.

1. Denver Jones is a "hot shot" lawyer, who at 25 somehow has 3 years of experience and has therefore managed to nab big cases and promotions. Despite this introduction to her character, she actually spends the book doing exactly zero legal work. Instead, she obsesses over her one night stands, baby sits Annabelle (though not by choice, as she is assigned by her boss due to the fact that she and Annabelle were teenage friends) and eventually abandons what could be her "biggest case" to go running off to Washington to rescue Carolyn. Her perspective is randomly told in the first person, so even though her story line is pointless with nothing really happening, she is comes off as the most likeable.

2. Annabelle Maestro, daughter of two movie stars, is living in New York with her drug addicted boyfriend, Frankie. The two have a dysfunctional relationship and a functional escort business. When Annabelle's mother is killed, she and Frankie head off to LA for the funeral, where their business is exposed. This part of the story is told from both Annabelle and Frankie's perspective, and would have been interesting had it been developed properly in its' own book, and if it had more than glossed over the very real problems they had.

3. Carolyn- for some reason, her story is included in this book as well. While Denver and Annabelle at least intersect while Denver "works" on her mother's murder case, Carolyn's story is completely on it's own. Besides being Denver's closest friend, Carolyn works for a state Senator; she is having an affair with him and has gotten pregnant, and so he reasonably enlists the held of a known "gangbanger" to kidnap her which is supposed to induce a miscarriage. With this story being told from the perspectives of Carolyn, the Senator, Benito, Rosa and Ramirez, the whole thing ends up being filler and a waste of pages. Like the Annabelle/Frankie story, this side of the story would have been interesting enough as its own book, instead of being glossed over in this one.

4. Bobby- again, this is another confusing part of the story. While Bobby's plot intersects with Annabelle (he is close friends with Frankie and has known Annabelle since high school), and then with Denver (as they are introduced and eventually end up together), it adds no real value to the story. Apparently, the other books have been about Bobby's mother, who he weirdly and frequently describes as the most beautiful woman he's ever seen (he also describes his sister this way, and this somehow isn't meant to be creepy?). Bobby owns a club in New York and is looking to franchise in to Vegas, but the chapters from his perspective again do nothing to more the plot forward.

So, in the end, 50% of the chapters (Bobby and Carolyn) are basically useless filler that do nothing to advance the overall plot. These character perspectives switch even within the same chapter, sometimes two or three times in a page. Add in casual and offensive attitudes towards rape, ridiculous and out of touch dialogue (especially surrounding sex, as it is obvious that the author has not recently spent any time with the 26 year old males she writes about), and celebrity references every paragraph (because why describe a character when you can compare them to a mixture of JFK, Ashton Kutcher and Robert Pattison?), and this ends up being a huge mess.

One small thing on the plus side: this was so bad and trashy that it almost becomes good, and makes it entirely readable. I finished it right until the end, the only thing keeping this from 1 star.

Anabelle Maestro the daughter of two hottest and highest paid actor and actress in Hollywood. She is the one in the cover. Spoiled, rich, beautiful, sexy and wild. Which also means unappreciated, insecure, selfish. She moved to the east coast after dropping out of college in Boston to get away from her parents' fame and to venture on her own, she did alright, together with her coke addict boyfriend Frankie Romano they are raking in millions, running a very lucrative business - the high end prostitution ring in New York, geared for the most powerful, rich and famous men.

Bobby Stanislopolous, son of the late Dmitri Stanislopolous, a shipping tycon and Lucky Santangelo a successful business woman who own a chain of hotels in Vegas and is married to Lennie, a Hollywood hot shot. Bobby partnered up with his best friend M.J, and together they are the owner of the hottest club in Manhattan- Mood. Bobby is obviously born into a family of achievers, in this book he seems to be the most successful and luckiest man, career wise. He is a loser when it comes to dealing with the opposite sex. It's not that he is bad looking, no. He was described as hot but he seems to picky and he seems to be attracted to women who seems to belittle him. One of these women is the cougar Megastar Zeena who has an annoying penchant in referring to herself in a third person every time she have a conversation with people.

Denver Jones is a twenty something hotshot attorney in a prestigious law firm based in Los Angeles, she did two highly publicized case and won both of them. She used to be Anabelle's friend, and also went to high school with Bobby, MJ. One day, Gemma Summers, the most beautiful and talented actress in Hollywood was shot in the face inside her L.A mansion. Her boss Felix, put her on the case, looks like she is going to reacquaint herself with an old friend, since Gemma Summers was Anabelle's mother.

Carolyn Henderson, is Senator Stoneman's assistant and mistress. She is educated, young and beautiful and she is my least favorite character. Nothing is fascinating or intriguing about her. Did she really believe that an ambitious Senator that she's been sleeping with for two years will leave his wife with excellent social and political connection and the father of his two kids? just because he managed to impregnate her? Carolyn is obviously a stupid and delusional, naive girl. Does she not watch TV?

I've never read any of Jackie Collins' book been eyeing them for sometime now but I was never really serious of buying one. So I am extremely grateful that this copy was sent to me for review. Now I am a fan. I love this book. It has murder, glamour, sex, money, and juicy scandals.

In her latest novel, Poor Little Bitch Girl, Collins once again writes a page-turner of a novel filled with sex, friendship, a kidnapping, a murder mystery, and characters whose lives are on a collision course. And again, she succeeds in getting the reader's attention and keeping it.

This novel is a perfect beach read, just in time for spring breakers to head south or on a cruise. Denver Jones, a hard-charging LA lawyer meets up again with former high school classmates Annabelle Maestro and Bobby Santangelo Stanislopolous. Annabelle's movie star mother is murdered and Denver is on her movie star father's defense team. No one in LA knows that Annabelle and her boyfriend run a high end escort service in New York.

Bobby is the son of Collins' most popular recurring character, Lucky Santangelo, who makes a welcome cameo appearance in the novel. Another high school friend of Denver's, Carolyn, is a personal assistant to a senator with whom she is having an affair. When Carolyn goes missing, Denver and Bobby team up to help find her.

The plot races at whiplash speed, yet Collins manages to create characters who are interesting. Denver is a favorite, falling for the handsome Bobby and having a torrid affair with an artist she meets in NYC and a Mario Lopez-like TV entertainment show host. (When it rains, it pours for Collins' female protagonists and sex.) Bobby is a chip off the old Lucky block, a hard-working, handsome, rich, good guy- every girl's dream.

One fun aspect of Collins books is figuring out which real life rich and famous people are thinly veiled as characters. I also liked that this book has less graphic violence against women than in earlier Collins novels.

And as always there is lots of sex in the book. Smart men might pick up a copy as a gift for their wives or girlfriends. Just make sure you are there when they finish it a few hours after they start it!

One word that keeps popping up my mind while I think of the words too describe this delicious book is DRAMA. Yes, there’s plenty of drama in this book to keep you entertained on a hot summer day, lying at the beach, drinking you’re mojito cocktail.

I don’t know how Jackie Collins comes up with these characters, there are so many of them and each one of them is very interesting. Because there are so many characters, you would probably think that somehow that would be confusing, but I can assure it’s not. Their lives are entwined with each other and it doesn’t feel at all like it’s too much.
The pages flew by me in no time and even though it’s a 500 pages book I read it in just two sittings. I couldn’t relate to any of the main characters in the book, but I think that’s because their lives are so glamorous and so Hollywood style. Denver Jones was the most fun character in the book and felt more real to me. She was the one who with a conscience.

There where a lot of celebrity names that got a place in the book. Justin Timberlake, Snoop Doggy Dog and even Heidi and Spencer where mentioned. They probably highlighted their names and put the page in a golden frame!

In the end there are little chapters how the story ends for each and every character in the book, so there where no questions after about what and how? I don’t know if Jackie Collins does this a lot in her books, but I believe this such a fun way to end the story.

I highly doubt my review is relevant, because I'm clearly .. clearly not the target audience for this book. But a friend recommended we read it, and after some protest I decided it couldn't hurt. I was wrong.

So in the end the pain was not worth any gain. Really all I learn't from this, is that we have polar opposite opinions on what makes for good storytelling. Oh I admit there were times that I screamed at the book, at details I just did not need to know nor did I care to know. Things that did not move along the plot, but went into the category of why I despise this particular character.

But guess what, people are unique. Every book cannot be tailored to every person. Some of the books that I love, others will hate. C'est la vie.

So here are my closing thoughts on this; If you do not have enough drama and gossip in your day-to-day life. If The CW is only running reruns of the latest teen drama. If the personal and intimate details of celebrity affairs is what you crave. Then you'll likely love this book. If not, then I'd strongly suggest you take your literary pursuits elsewhere.

Perfect summer reading - mindless story about rich 20-somethings in Hollywood, Vegas, NYC and Washington, DC, with romance and a murder mystery thrown into the mix. Ties back to Collins' previous Santangelo novels, but this novel stands on its own.

So I wanted to read something trashy, full of pointless.sex scenes... and it couldn't even get that right. Honestly, the plot went nowhere, the characters had absolutely no personalities or were just annoying, its full of gross comments, and the writing.. just terrible. I don't know how this has so many good reviews when it's just. Bad. It's not fun in any way

Did I mention the writing is bad?

Jackie brings us another novel in the Santangelo series, though Lucky only plays a peripheral role in this one. Instead, this novel is more about Lucky’s son Bobby and his old friends and acquaintances from high school.

One of Bobby’s buddies is Frankie, the coke-addicted boyfriend of Annabelle Maestro, another classmate and the daughter of movie star parents. Frankie and Annabelle, perpetually short of cash despite Annabelle’s generous allowance, have started their own exclusive call girl business, arranging “dates” between beautiful, sometimes famous women, and rich men. All is running smoothly, until Annabelle’s mother, Gemma Sommers, is found murdered, and she and Frankie have to leave their business in Frankie’s cousin’s hands while they travel to LA for the funeral.

Since the spouse is always a suspect, Annabelle’s father, Ralph Maestro, hires a defense attorney immediately, and one of the members of his legal team is Denver, another old classmate of Bobby’s. Denver is a hard worker on her way to big things, but when she is sent to New York to collect Annabelle, she finds herself distracted by the handsome men she keeps meeting, and eventually wonders if she’s really doing what she wants with her life.

Denver’s best friend Carolyn works as an assistant to a senator in Washington, and is also sleeping with her boss. She’s in love, and certain that it’s only a matter of time before he leaves his wife for her. When she finds out she’s pregnant and shares the news, she is convinced a happy future is on the way…until she gets kidnapped under suspicious circumstances.

As always with Jackie Collins, the action moves from character to character as the plot is woven, and there are a few ironic twists and turns. While not as good as her last book, this one was very readable. I would have rewritten the painfully wooden dialogue between Bobby and his sister Max, and the author should note that attorneys have assistants, paralegals, and clerks, but NOT interns, but that is something her editor should have caught. Per the usual, Jackie Collins has delivered a fun romp that happens between New York, LA, and Las Vegas with plenty of delicious scandal along the way. Definitely a fun summer read.

3.5 stars I love Jackie Collins. There. I said it. She's my guilty pleasure that, really, when I get down to it, I'm not that guilty over. She's my go-to when I want a fast, frothy, overall fun read. Rarely am I truly disappointed.

Poor Little Bitch Girl wasn't my ABSOLUTE favorite read of hers, but it was comforting, in a way, to just sit back for a few hours and let the superficial world of Hollywood take over.

It was somewhat strange that the Denver chapters were in first person present tense and I wanted to THROTTLE Carolyn 90% of the time, but other than that, I enjoyed it and would recommend to anyone who enjoys good old fashioned soapy drama.

I normally do enjoy a relatively mindless read, but honestly.. I now really don't understand the good things I've heard about Jackie Collins.

There was no defined plot until about halfway through the book, and even then, it took until the last 75 pages to really pick up. Once I dragged myself to that point, I couldn't put it down. Unfortunately the first 400 pages could easily be considered 'take it, or leave it'. I couldn't get into it.

I was really hoping her writing would be easy to follow and humorous as it is with Meg Cabot, Sophie Kinsella, or Janet Evanovich. Unfortunately, this book put me off. Maybe her earlier books are better.

What can I say? If you've read one Jackie Collins, you've read them all. I even had to make a new shelf for them, called FLUFF. Pretty much means if you don't want to use more than one brain cell, then this is for you. Don't get me wrong, there are times that this is just what I want. Hence the reason I read it but do they occupy a lot of my shelves....um, no. They are kind of like Classics for Paris Hilton. (All in good fun, Paris, don't sue me, I'm poor.)

OK, so this is what I consider a "cleansing" read. I enjoy Jackie Collins because her books are very entertaining and don't require a lot of mental action in order to read. After the previous read "Half the Sky" I was in need of some "light" reading.

I would recommend to those who enjoy a fun read and don't mind a little bit of language/sex.

This was the first book I've read by Jackie Collins, and it will be the last. This book was terrible, I couldn't wait for it to be over. There were so many terrible cliches and repetitive words I could barely make it through. No plot, just one person having sex with another, way too many side characters and random "wow" "crap" and "hmmm" lines thrown all over.
