Headlocked: Tales From The Road Vol. 1 is a collection of short story comics written by Mike Kingston and art by Tony Gregori, Doug Hills, Mike Drake, Mark Poulton, Michael Mulipola, Mike Borkowski, Nadia Raman, Josh Adams, and J Gonzo.
Tales From The Road is a collection of 8 to 12-page short story comics. Each comic is co-written by a professional wrestler including Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, MVP, Shane Helms, Rob Van Dam, The Young Bucks, and more. All the stories revolve around the fictional WFW wrestling organization.
This book is not what I thought it was. I thought it a was collection of tales of the wrestlers’ actual road-trips, behind the scenes, and random encounters. Instead it is a collection of tales set in the fictional Headlocked wrestling universe. There is a wide range of stories told here - some being much more grounded than others. When I started reading I was very confused until I realized what was going on. I would have probably enjoyed it more if I knew more about the wrestling universe but it’s okay as a series of stand alone shorts.
