THE BATTLE IS WON

Although it happened sooner than anticipated, Nevaria has survived the Demon Beast Invasion. With the threat having passed, Eryk has decided it’s finally time for him to create his own sect, one that will do the things the Nevarian Spiritualists and Imperial Royal Guards cannot.

But not everything is calm. Empress Hilda has shocking information that could shake the foundation of everything Eryk thought he knew, Kari’s youngest brother is acting even more surely than usual, and creating a guild from scratch, without the aid of his friends from the past, is much harder than he anticipated. The Demon Beast Invasion might be over, but Eryk’s life is only just beginning.

Brandon Varnell is a writer. The end.

... Just kidding.

Brandon Varnell is the author of several book series, all of which involve anime-inspired fanservice. Having been an anime nerd for basically his whole life, his books tend to reflect that. He likes writing stories with loads of T&A, shonen-style battle scenes, and steamy romances that are both light-hearted and erotic. He is also a huge fan of harem anime, so most of his books feature harem romances. If that bothers you, you probably shouldn't read his books.

A wonderful book.

This series continues to be one of my favorites as I really like the MC and the secondary characters. The world building is very good and I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

A steady new addition in a steady series

It's good sometimes when things go off the beaten road of battle and mayhem and meander through the forests of nice tranquil fun. I personally enjoyed this book as I have much of the series. The dream sequences coming to an end sound nice (its in the afterward not really a spoiler) but I wonder how that will be pulled off since book one began with the end of well over a hundred years of life and were talking about a current teenage mc. I get that things in time-hoppy stories can get and generally are confusing and trust me I didn't like that most of the first and second act really were just dreams of a future that never was or will be since Eryk is changing it but it lends credence to and enhances the plot overall so it was/is a necessary annoyance. With that said it's nice that the character interpersonal dynamics were brought out more outside of a fight/post-fight scenario. It's a solid 4/5 book in a solid 4 star series. Is it earth shatteribgly great, no? Is it good if you're into harem lit with a few steamy scenes and lots of fighting, yes. I'm more a fan of ftb novels but I can respect more explicit stuff. I think this light novel stands on its own, American Kitsune is still Varnell's better series but this one is definitely a close tie for second with A Most Unlikely Hero and followed third by Cargirl Doctor. They're all goofy and off the wall, clearly inspired by anime and manga with heavy eastern themes in more western settings but Varnell did I again. I'm glad I spent the five dollars to read it, and I hope to see book 10 soon.

On to the meat of the review though... this did feel a bit like a stop gap, a filler, kind of like a beach episode in an anime without being a beach episode. The personal relationships were well done, still not a fan of the Kriger siblings, Marko is still annoying and I wasn't a fan of wasting so many words on them but hey, that's fine its the author's choice in the end what goes in and I have no real right to do more than comment which I am. Still that helped with showing off some of Neravian fashion which has been lacking in description as Varnell himself mentioned in the afterword. The fighting scenes were light which was great for me because I like less of the fighting and more of the interpersonal talk, emotional romance, and such. And that's hard to find in a light novel since they're so short. As to why I said solid, the writing has gotten better over time, the arcs are solidifying since Varnell has gotten more of a sense of who he is a writer by now. There are less mistakes since he has a good editor that reviews his work unlike some of the bigger names that let things slip by doing most of it themselves. Which sounds stupid until you've read over a hundred books with the same set of spelling issues, grammar trouble, and utter disregard for the English language tha borders on sacrilege that would make one of my old English teachers drown them in red ink. The images are great too, I like a good book with a few illustrations and that adds novelty that I think is lacking in this particular genre. Most authors save that for patreon and their patrons but routinely I get my $5 worth of excellent images with great writing and there's something in that which makes me feel better about spending on such short books. It's a good quick read too, I look forward to every new release from Varnell but none quite as much as the series I've mentioned already.

Oh, and the five star is so that the algorithm isn't screwing him on sales. Like I said though this book is solid 4/5 in a 4/5 series.

Hey well done cultivation novel

I enjoy reading the story and what makes the cultivation novel fun is there's not a lot of minut detail about how you do this and how you do that which is kind of a turn off for me and I rather enjoyed it just character development and the action. As these volumes progress the characters get more fleshed-out and be riding becomes better and better in my opinion. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next and I would be Rich eisen unless I also have to mentioned that this book series has harem elements and sexy parts which just adds spice to the story.

Not bad, but not good. Short!

Not a lot happening. Story is very linear and feels like fillers and not thought out events or dialogue. Kudos that the author wanted to the MCs to have a rest phase, too bad the character development lacked. They are starting to feel one dimensional. The powers progression is also slow. They start a guild, but don’t do anything with it.

A final kudos to the author is that the flashback will stop in the next book. I skipped them and almost dropped the series. If the book is longer next time I will continue. This one was too short. More sexy time as well plz and skip the random sexy talk.

Beating the odds

Simply put this is the best time travel related romance/fantasy/ascension book on the market! It is a truly compelling story set in a fascinating world, with phenomenal and lovable characters. It would be a grave disservice to yourself not to pick up this series and I eagerly await the next one!

good story but short read

Only took me about 2 hours to finish. Short book. But we did learn a bit more about the secrets of the world. Some issues with the blast from the past portions. Said he didn’t know anything about “Lords” but literally in the next past portion he learns about lords from two elites. Need to work on continuity.

Recommend this series

I have been really enjoying this series. The world building is what I am most interested in. Also, the MC is really strong but he needs to improve which makes it more interesting to read how he learns from his failures. Also, the women protagonists all have unique personalities and character progression.

Excellent Continuation

Varnell continues to write one of the best cultivation novels available, especially if you want more interaction between characters than the occasional line, and I eagerly await the next installment.

Building!

Erik is building his home, with potshots from the Seik to let them know they're still there.
Seeing their little family makes me happy.

Thank you!

Another excellent book in the series.

This is another excellent book! A little bit of life in a day mixed with actions and flashbacks. As a series advances more and more information is revealed about the world and the life he leads. This is how a story should be told.

a little slower…

A welcome change from the previous volume they had a lot of action tightly packed into its word count.

A good way to start off a new arc, easing into it and then having a punch of action near the end. The discoveries just keep coming and surprises are always around the corner. I’m looking forward to vol 10!
