What starts out as a night of celebration for Aimee soon turns into a nightmare. Snatched by cruel, sadistic monsters ,she’s thrown into a metal container, among other victims too frightened to make a sound.
The game-keepers force everyone to play.
Detective Johnson is one step away from catching the killers. Wrestling with his instincts as a father to serve justice his own way, this is no ordinary case for him. Can he stop the vile sadists before they destroy more young girls, as well as his own daughter?
As Aimee’s ordeal worsens, she looses her grip on reality, having to face the most evil monsters mankind has produced if she has any chance of escape.
It's time to find a different way to play... PLEASE NOTE THIS BOOK WAS PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED UNDER THE TITLE NO ORDINARY GIRL

I hope you enjoy my dark and disturbing crime books, and if you fancy reading something lighter, why not check out my fantasy novel – Dragged to the Depths.
Not for me. I was expecting more I guess. I don't know, more disturbing. I usually read extreme horror by men for this reason. The writing didn't did it for me either. But I think for someone who don't know much about splatterpunk or extreme horror, it can be a great start. That book really have a strong feminine vibe, for people who are fan of book written by women it would be perfect for you. Overall even if it was not for me, I know that it will be perfect for some people.
Wow. I don't even know where to start. Lots of triggers so be aware - rape, gore, kidnapping.
Celebrating landing her dream job, Aimee and her bestie, Kelly, hit up a swanky club. They catch the eye of two sexy men who buy shots, dance and keep them after hours. Only to be separated - Kelly left at the bar to be used while Aimee wakes in a container. Aimee builds her determination to escape, becoming friends with others in the containment. She is simply in one of many containers - as people pay crazy amount of money to partake in a hunt. People let loose on a vast estate - miles away from a village, neighbors, any chance of help. Johnson is obsessed with breaking up this crime - his own daughter kidnapped, likely dead.
This plot is told in fragmented pieces - giving humanity to the monsters, feeding the reader's craving for justice, right the wrongs suffered by innocents. Well done.
What a super first chapter. Talk about hitting it in the jugular with the action and graphic description. When Aimee and Kelly go for a night out, they didn't bargain on what would happen to them.
"They say that money is the root of all evil, but the truth looked to be simpler: it was man, and his selfish desire."
As each chapter unfolded I started to question Cheryl Elaine's mind 😵 seriously this is one author who has a very dark and vivid imagination. The brutality and torture she puts her characters through is just immense. Now obviously with such dark themes and torture there are potential trigger warnings in this story. Therefore I would check those out. However, if like me you love your stories dark and brutal and gory then pick Prey up 😁
"I’d never imagined I could hurt a fly, but who knows how they’d act if put in certain situations?"
As we reached some kind of conclusion, I realised that we were only halfway through. Which meant there was more death, destruction and some darn fine murder to come. Seriously I was reading this chapters thinking how could it get darker, but Elaine was throwing everything at it. I felt violated reading some of the scenes, but like I've said many a time this is the type of stuff I enjoy reading. Just call me strange 😁
"Women are far more dangerous than shotguns."
What is the most scary aspect about Prey? It's not far fetched, and when you sit down and think of it. What you are reading COULD happen and probably is happening somewhere in the world. Some people are just vile. And this story highlights the brutality and viciousness out there.
If you love your stories dark, gritty and brutal then seriously get a copy of this book!!! It's bloody great 👍🏼
Thanks once again to Zoe at Zooloosbooktours and SpellBound Books for my gifted digital copy and spot on the tour. I'll be buying a copy of this for a few of my friends.
I don’t know where to start. This was one of the darkest, most gruesome and graphic books I have ever read. Trigger warnings for brutal rape, torture and child abuse; these feature throughout the book. It’s a very well written book and as long as you are aware of, and can deal, with the content it’s a captivating read dealing with a very difficult subject. I wanted to put it down and stop reading more than once, but I couldn’t.
Briefly Aimee is out with her friend Kelly celebrating her new job when they are plied with drinks and abducted. But that is only the start of Aimee’s worries. When she comes to she is in a metal container with a number of other young men and women but no sign of Kelly. What follows is horrendous. The people in the container are the ‘prey’ for wealthy and sick individuals to capture and kill in a shocking manner. Can Aimee escape her captors? Detective Johnson is on the trail of this group of criminals, he has his own agenda following the disappearance of his daughter, Anna.
You can only feel sympathy for Aimee and all the other captives but as the story progresses you watch with bated breath as Aimee changes, determined to survive, determined to wreak retribution on her captors and the hunters. I’ve written this review as soon as I finished the book and to be honest I’m still feeling pretty shell-shocked. This is one that’s going to stay with me for a long time. 4.5⭐️
The opening to this book is so intense it made me feel sick to my stomach. Kidnapping/Rape not knowing who and why but I couldn’t stop I couldn’t put it down I had to know if Kelly was okay and what was going to happen to Aimee. The author gets your pulse pumping with anticipation.
Dark small spaces are enough to freak me out but what you come across almost instantly is enough to freak anyone out. The author is brilliant at making you want to like the most corrupted for a short period of time. I loved that this was set to begin with in Yorkshire and you soon realise how big the ‘trafficking’ spread across the world. Money and power.
If you don’t like gory details that make your stomach turn then I wouldn’t read this. But if you love horror and anything horror related then you’ll like this one. I couldn’t believe what was happening every page I turned. I loved reading from Aimee’s perspective and detective Johnson’s perspective, their characters really built this journey through the pages.
There’s a twist you don’t expect and the revenge is insane. This book is absolutely amazing. 100% would love to see this as a film. What a woman Aimee is.
This book was dark and when I say dark, I mean dark. I thought Stitched was brutal, this book sees that line you don’t cross and waved goodbye to it in a convertible. It was a cross between Hunger Games and Hostel and did I mention DARK!!!
I need a shower to cleanse myself from this book. Normally, I would be raving about how amazing a book is by the descriptions written by the author. How you can picture the scenes vividly as if you were there. Well, this is one book you wish you couldn’t do that. Unfortunately, I lived every single graphic detail of Prey. Boy, it was not pretty. A lot of the time when I was thinking how grim it was, how shocking and volatile it was, I was coiled up by the intensity of it all. I was cringing, I felt sick and I felt completely lost and devastated by the entire story. This situation that Aimee and a whole host of people are in scares me. I don’t think I will talk to anyone ever again, like ever. Aimee, is the epitome of a heroine, regardless of her actions after. She did what she could survive.
This isn’t a bump in the night scare, this is OMFG this could really happen scare. It has terrified me because this story probably has and does happen and that chills me to the core.
When you take away the shocks, fears, and the brutality of it all. You are still left with a book I couldn’t put down. It is in no way a sweetness and light book, it is dark and horrible but it is fascinating and I found it so hard to put down despite wanting to so many times. But I thought if Aimee can live this ordeal, I can read it.
I would hate to get on the wrong side of Cheryl and I dread to think what her google history looks like but she wrote a book that made me want to go out and find Aimee and join her. Not that I would be much good, hey ho.
It is another hard but cracking read. There is no light relief or any relief. It is descriptive, it is raw, it is dark and so very brutal, and a book that will stay with me for a long time.
I can’t bring myself to give this 5 stars because although gripping, there were some parts that were very descriptive and made me feel a bit urgh/uncomfortable.
Not sure I’ve read anything so graphic in relation to torture or rape - so like other reviews have said, it’s not for the faint hearted.
This is one of the darkest and most gruesome books I have read but I loved it! Once I started reading it, I was completely gripped and finished this in under a day.
The story is well written and you just can’t help but feel sorry for all the victims. I found it tugged on my heart strings, even for characters I wouldn’t have expected to feel sorry for! There is a lot of blood and gore throughout the book.
This story isn’t for the faint hearted but having said that though, I would highly recommend this book.
I have read one of Cheryls books before and it was one of those books where I wanted to reach into the pages and throttle the main character, he was that despicable. I said to Cheryl I was due to read this, and asked if I was going to thing the same, she just replied with a winky face. Having read it I can see why. I think the best way of describing this is by imagining all the worst things you can think of that can be committed against another person, ALL of them, and them some more you havent thought of, and every one of them has been included in this book, against the poor victims of a sadistic, vicious but clever gang. One of the women captured, is sparky and fesity from the very beginning, and is plotting her escape during her whole capitivity. One act of rebellion (one which I slightly cheered her for) led to her being tortured differently. However it is during this she finally figures out a way to escape this torment. The cop Johnson, has been searching for this gang for a very long time, especially after his daughter disappeared and was assumed to be a victim. The last third of the book turns the tables. Once Aimee has her plan in place, she turns from victim into hunter, and wants to have her revenge on those who wronged her. You have to question whether you are cheering her on, and what she does is right, or whether she should leave it to the police. I am still on the fence, one tiny little detail in the book makes you realise why at times she is perhaps right to do what shes doing. Johnson as well knows that he should try and find her and treat her as he would any other criminal, but she has provided him with more information than he had been able to gather in years of investigating to get some of them off the streets. A fast paced, brutal, at times sickening read, but Aimee was great and you really wanted her to succeed.
BEWARE of ⛔️Trigger Warnings⛔️ This book is heavily graphical in gore, rape & kidnapping.
WOW. This book isn’t my usual go to genre, but being #shoctober I thought I would give this a whirl and step out of my comfort zone.
ENTER WITH CAUTION…
This is definitely not for the faint hearted. The graphical detail that goes into this book is incredible! But if like me you can visualise while reading very easily, this might give you a few rough nights afterwards. This novel is DARKER than dark!
I think what made it even darker was the realistic and relatable elements, the fact this could actually happen — if it hasn’t already.
This book was fascinating, raw, brutal, shocking and just #unputdownable
A HUGE thank you to @zooloosbooktours & @cherylelaine15 for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Prey by Cheryl Elaine. Aimee soon turns into a nightmare. Snatched by cruel, sadistic monsters ,she’s thrown into a metal container, among other victims too frightened to make a sound. Omg an Absolutely brilliant read. I loved the cover. This is very gory. Great story and some good characters. Aimee was a character that I didn't know if I loved her or not. I did to begin with but as the story went on I'm not sure how I felt about her. This is a dark and twisted book. 5*.
This is a dark and disturbing story but WOW it's amazing. From the first page until the last I was totally hooked. A must read in my opinion, you won't be disappointed.
This is a dark book. I had absolutely no idea how dark, gruesome and violent this book would be. Trigger warnings for everything so please be careful heading into this book.
This starts with meeting Aimee ready to head out and celebrate her new job when she meets the wrong people and ends up in the game.
The Game is run by a gang who get the sickest, most sadistic people to pay and join the game to catch these prisoners and do what they please.
This is a story of revenge. I can't really say a lot more without spoiling it but this story explores pain, abuse, survival grief, revenge and survival.
Although this was a tough read at times I was completely hooked and needed to know how it ended whether or not it would be good or bad.
From the very first page I was completely hooked! Absolutely dark and twisted, you will not be disappointed! Just be warned it's very graphic. Highly recommended!!
