A pivotal book in the series. And it truly touches a nerve.
Another guest bites the dust. It’s through no fault of my own (I think), but this is really bad for my historic inn’s reputation. Soon, no customers will want to check in, due to fear of involuntarily checking out.
This latest demise involved a giant oak tree (long story) and a hidden rare gem. My hot detective friend thinks it was actually a homicide. I need to use every bit of my psychometry, and the help of The Memory Guild, to sort it out.
But I’m also trying to rescue my husband from an evil wizard who is plotting to take over the Magic Guild of San Marcos. Can I protect the witches of my family, my daughter and mother, from him as he bombards the magic community with love dreams? (Believe me, it isn’t pretty.)
The one person in my family who isn’t magical, I’m just a middle-aged innkeeper with some paranormal abilities.
That is, until a faerie hints that I have a destiny of greatness. Really, I don’t even want to know.
Ward is a Florida native and author of the the Memory Guild midlife paranormal mystery thrillers, the Monsters of Jellyfish Beach paranormal mysteries, and the Freaky Florida humorous paranormal series, all of which are chock full of psychics, witches, vampires, werewolves, dragons, and other bizarre, mythical creatures, such as #FloridaMan. He also pens the Zeke Adams series of noir mysteries. He lives in Florida (of course) with his wife, cats, and a demon who prefers to remain anonymous.
A Wizard's Touch is the fifth book in the Memory Guild series by Ward Parker.
I'm happy that Cory found his way back to Darla. That he's now free of Tom's control, and capable of learning about his power over ley lines. Most of all, I can't wait to see what becomes of him and his familiar Cervantes. It will interesting to see how he changes the dynamic of the story. Since, up to this point, it's been about woman empowerment.
I bet she's a changeling. The Fae had finally made their appearance in this magical fantasy world. An emissary of the Queen of the Fae told Darla she will come to possess great power, and either be a great ally or formidable enemy to the Fae. Gifting her the pearl back, and indebting her to them with this gift. This unique ability she has, learning to hear the trees, and hopefully coming to understand them... If she's not Fae, she's something more than just the small telepath she has always thought herself to be...
It seems the Fae are going to become a more prominent feature within their magical town of San Marcos. In their endeavors to prolong their race by stealing the children of humans, and using their unique fae magic to convert them to fae themselves. It's a little dicey how they can completely overwrite biology..
I wonder whether Bob will stay as the leader of the Magic Guild given how terribly he failed to defend his people. And that he basically hid out during the attacks done by Tom on the magic community. Maybe Sophie will step into her own abilities, and take over in the future?
Are the gateways done with her now, that Cory has been freed and Tom is no longer draining the ley lines, and targeting the gateways themselves?
I do wish there was a little more humor. Even though it was hilarious that Tom's great plan for world domination was pyramid schemes!
This is the 5th book in this series, but by NO means is it a 'tag-a-long!' This could be good as a standalone, but is Much better read in order. Darla is starting her 'change', but it is not just a typical 'change of life' that women go thru that she is going thru. Her husband left, she found out that he did not intentionally leave her, but is being held captive by a very mean wizard! She goes thru many manouvres in this book to try to get him back to her. Then there is the losing another guest, by death of a tree limb this time. Once again her cousin Missy is doing all she can to help her out with the majick she can do, and moral support. Many series can get dry and drab... this is NOT that series! Every book is great in its own rights, and together bring a very disfunctional family together, in a good way. Thank you Mr. Ward Parker for another Awesome Book! (When is the next one?)
I love this series and it keeps getting better with each book. The characters are fun and somewhat melodramatic which is entertaining and engaging. It is on the lighter side of fantasy with bad folks even a bit enduring and sometimes ridiculous and the good folks with flaws as well. Anyone looking for a heroine with a busy life who can't leave a mystery unsolved will enjoy this book and series. Can't wait to see what mysteries lie ahead for Darla.
Interesting story. I certainly didn’t like the evil Texas Tom Wizard. He was definitely a character that I would like to eliminate. I’m not sure if I like Cory coming back into Darla’s life or not. I enjoyed the interaction with Darla and detective Samson.
The story was exciting and very enjoyable. I didn’t want to put it down and it had an interesting ending that opens up a lot of possible avenues
Who ever thought that Darla, our intrepid psychometrist, would find evil magic to be like a pyramid scheme? Or that trees can have conversations? Parker has really stretched his imagination, in a brilliant way, to keep us coming back for more! Great fun, imaginative new magics, and storylines that draw you in! Can't wait to dive into book six.
Yep, fairies are as real as werewolves, witches, and ghosts. Darla knows the last three are real, the local sheriff is a wolf shifter, and both Data's mom and daughter are witches. And her husband is finally free of the evil wizard who had held him in The In Between. Can their lives ever get beck to normal?
Good book with a lot of action. Mystery, suspense, and very little romance are the things that made this book so enjoyable. The paranormal was the spice that kept the story interesting. Very good story.
Darla is once again up to her eyeballs in a mysterious death and magical shenanigans. Ward Parker weaves a masterful storyline with all the right ingredients and tantalizing tidbits that keep me coming back for more
Just finished book 5 "The Wizard's Touch" in the Memory Guild Series. Great series. Really draws you into the characters. And the action seems non-stop. Going directly to book 6. Recommend to all.
I truly like all the characters in this series. The quirky get quirkier! Never a dull moment for this physic inn owner in a town complete with its supernatural residents. Try this series, you won’t be bored.
I really enjoyed this book. The villain was evil on so many levels. I loved the scene in the Forrest where Darla listens to the trees. This is my favorite job this series so far.
This book was the continued story about the middle aged witch coming into her magic in modern day. There is some time travel thrown in. A delightful story to keep you wanting more,!!
It’s a good thing that I’m retired so staying up late for “just one more chapter,” doesn’t affect anything! Just so I don’t unintentionally have a spoiler alert, I’m Team Sampson.
Lei Lines, what are they and what do they mean for a tree and a dead woman?. Does Darla manage to find Corey by something she finds or is she just full of wishful thinking? Read this book to see if love is stronger than magic!
I volunteered a honest review in exchange for an ARC copy of this book.
