If you've already read her sister, book 1, One Iridescent Night: A Cinderella Retelling, then you'll know that this is a continuation of that same story. An Evanescent Shadow was written to highlight the men a little more in the book, but it’s Evelyn’s growth that still takes center stage.

Truthfully, I struggled to write this second book, not because I didn’t know where the story was going or struggled with plotting…no, the struggle was in portraying the emotions and inner workings of each character in the most nuanced and understandable way I could. (My thesaurus was constantly open next to me.)

This book explores the “messy middle”… you know, that in-between time when you have to face harsh realities and figure out who you are, what you want and what you’re feeling.

There are twists and turns, betrayals, confusion and kissing... 😘…plus, much more.

Grab your copy today! Available for 99¢ now through November 20th.

Oh Brianne.

You sweet masterpiece of an author you.

I am 100% convinced that Brianne has figured out exactly how to write a book that sucks me in, breaks my heart, and makes me happy all at the same time.

I absolutely loved One Iridescent Night and the second book in the series did not disappoint! This book had so many fun twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I read this book in a day and a half because you just can’t put it down.

The cliffhanger ending. AHHHHH. I need the next book ughughugh. Patience is not one of my virtues.

For the reader who loves fairytale retellings mixed with magic and romance, this series is perfect for you! I love the writing style and creativity that Brianne has brought to this series and really just can’t wait to see how she continues to grow as an author!

Thank you to Brianne Wik for my ARC of this book. This in no way changes my review.

A sparkling, vivid sequel that will take you on a journey you will never forget!

Welcome back to the mystical land of Alstonia, where magic is in the air and romance is all around! We find ourselves back with the wonderful Evy as she begins to settle into her new life of freedom now that her wicked father & step-family have been dealt with. Along the way, she opens up to the two men courting her, King Ryker and childhood sweetheart Liam, while also diving deeper into her heritage as a fairy to discover the true extent of her powers. Yet, nothing is ever perfect. A plot to overtake and hurt not one, but both of the men she has come to care for, is afoot and if they don't work hard to discover what evil is behind it, all hope could be lost.

As always, I adored the personal journeys of each of these characters. Wik has put her heart into this series, and it shows in the visceral emotions that bleed off of the page and into your soul. I adored watching Evy develop not only as a fairy, but as a young woman who is determined to create her own path and forge her own strength. As always, Ryker is as flirtatious as ever (and I am NOT complaining), but also trying to find his footing as a young, new king who feels the weight of his father's legacy on his shoulders. However, surprisingly enough for me, Liam was the big stand out in this book! I liked him in the first one, although he was a bit too sweet for my personal taste (what can I say, I like my fictional men to have a little grit to them lol). But dang did this boy go a bit dark as he tries to find his place in the world. I found it very relatable and gut-wrenchingly beautiful at the same time and I was cheering for him the whole book waiting for his chapters to reappear so I could spend more time with him. All three characters had struggles, and all of them were developed in the most realistic and relatable way.

The fairy plot along with the truly despicable antagonist had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning! Did I scream at this book MULTIPLE times? Yes. Is that 100% the best reaction from me when it comes to an antagonist & evil plots? OH heck yes. The development of it was so well done, with twists and turns. When I thought I had a handle on what was gonna happen next, SURPRISE, something else jumped in to knock me off my feet lol

An Evanescent Shadow is chalk full of lovable, yet relatable, characters, heart-touching romance, vividly intoxicating magic, and breathtaking moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat from page one!

Wow, where do I start?

First I want to thank Brianne Wik for sending me an ARC for this book! Now onto my review...

This book blew me away page after page. When I thought that one thing was happening Wik said SIKE and took the story in a completely different direction.

I had really big expectations for this book because I absolutely LOVED the first one and I am so incredibly happy to say that An Evanescent Shadow exceeded every single one of my expectations!

Evy is an amazing young woman and I don't want to say too much about her because spoilers but her arc in this book was stunning. Liam and Ryker are very interesting *wink*.

In conclusion, Wik draws readers in again in a spectacular tale of love, betrayal, and abuse recovery in her sequel to her debut novel.

Lots of love!

I really enjoyed the first book in the series and found it to be a really refreshing and unique take on a Cinderella retelling (Cinderella is one of my favourite fairy tales!). To be honest I struggled with the first 30% or so of this sequel, and found that overall the book felt a little longer than it needed to be… but once the story got going I sunk my teeth in and it was a quick read.

Brianne does a really great job at capturing anxiety and trauma and writing realistic and relatable characters. It was around a 4 star read for me because if felt slower than the first book and I had really high expectations for the sequel. Also I’m not a big fan of the love triangle trope, but still the book drew me in and there were many delightful twists and that cliffhanger ending got me. I totally recommend this series for anyone who loves retellings, fantasy and fairies! It’s a fun upper-YA fantasy romance series.

Thanks Brianna for including me on your ARC team! Was a pleasure to read and receiving an ARC didn’t change my opinion or thoughts shared in my review. All thoughts / opinions are my own 😊.

do I really have to wait until April?

Loved book two…I think more than book one? Both were fantastic. I definitely have my ship and think one of the potential suitors is definitely under serving of Evy 🙃 but ughhh I’m dying for the next book.

I will admit, I did not enjoy this book as much as the first one, but it definitely had its merit.

I don’t want to spoil anything since this is a sequel, so I won’t say too much. This takes place right after the first book. Evelyn is taking time for herself and is trying to learn more about herself, and become more confident as a person as well as find that peace she’s never experienced. Ryker and Liam are at the palace and are trying to adapt to the new norm, especially poor Ryker 😢

I thought there would be more to this story when it comes to the faeries or something, but sadly, not much actually happened until about 70% into the book. Definitely a slow build up, but I felt a bit bored at times since most of the time it was this love triangle and their drama, instead of them focusing on the evil right in front of them. Which, in a way, because of how they all seemed to be focusing on trying to win each other over, it gave the villain the perfect excuse and opportunity to take over and I applaud how that was done 👏🏻

I just wish maybe there had been more action and less of this moping around. I mean these kids didn’t act like the adults they should have been. I understand Evelyn’s situation, and I thought maybe she would become a bit stronger as a person, which she did, but I think she shouldn’t allow these two boys to take up so much of the time that I think she needed for herself.

I will say I absolutely adore Ryker and he deserves better, and the villain is fantastic! I love how manipulative he is and how easy it was for him since everyone was so caught up with their own drama, they didn’t see what was literally happening to them from the beginning! I loved the way it ended since we got some more action and we saw certain people’s true colors and I look forward to seeing how it continues for them all…especially Ryker 😭😭😭

Thank you to the author for a free digital copy 🥰

Okay this book took me on a journey. A journey of finding love. A journey of discovering one's self. And a journey trying to figure out who to trust.

After many years of heartache and desperation, she gets the chance to start anew and actually love life like she has always deserved. But of course there is trouble lurking in the shadows. There are many secrets Evelyn has to decide whether or not she will tell those closest to her, including her two charming and chivalrous suitors. The last thing she want to do is hurt someone, but as time goes she realizes that might not be possible.

In the beginning I felt like the pacing was a little slow but as I finished the book I realized that it was necessary for the intricate plot that is woven deeply with each character. Can not wait for book three!

This series is so good! This is one of the best fairytale retellings I’ve read. The first book sucked me right into the world and this book is no different. I’m so invested in these characters and I don’t think I’ve ever been so torn over a love triangle. I’m definitely rooting for someone but I love them both so much. That cliffhanger hurt me but I still loved it. I can’t wait to see what happens in the final book. I have my fingers crossed for a happily ever after!

Oh my gosh where do I even start with this?! I absolutely ADORED this book! Like, I'm already contemplating a reread to more fully savor each moment.

I want to keep this spoiler free so I'll try and review it vaguely. ;) I love how Brianne writes her characters so real and relatable. Just because Evy got out of her bad situation doesn't make everything sunshine and roses. She still suffers PTSD and anxiety and depression and Brianne does it in a raw way that you feel everything but not in a downer type way. This round you also get to see how the boys are doing emotionally and how they deal with it - in good and bad ways. Once again done so well you can see each character as a real person with ups and downs but you still love the character so much more because you get all these facets of their personalities and character.

Spoiler! I'm ALL #TEAMLIAM!!!! Lol, I didn't want to fully commit to him after book 1 cuz The Selection did me wrong falling in love with the guard. (I'm looking at you Brianne - don't break my heart! I might never recover!) There's a little more steam in this book and my absolute fav scene in the whole book involves a shirtless Liam by a waterfall. Nuff said.

Brianne also does a wonderful job fleshing out the side characters! I LOVE Becca!! Can we all agree we need a Becca in our lives?! Her and Rafe are adorable! You get a little more into Princess Jada and I'm here for it! I love her - strong, opinionated, funny princess!! I love the way she gave more backstory to Apep and him and Camilla gave me emotional whiplash. There are so many twists to this story - one min you're laughing out loud, another min you're swooning, then come the tears! It literally gives you all the feels and it's fantastic!

It goes without saying that I'm dying for the next one already!! Congrats Brianne you nailed this one!!!

This book is a brilliant follow-up to its predecessor. It picks up following the end of the first book and Evelyn has some time to breathe. Unfortunately, the trauma from her childhood continues to haunt her as she tries to rebuild her life without the constant stress of Liam and Ryker by her side.

This book goes from the "Cinderella" retelling truly into its own magnificent strokes of creativity, without giving up its fantastic settings. There's more magic, more intrigue, more betrayal, and more heartbreak than the first book. The author does a great job of setting up the different plot twists and although I was able to pick out certain things happening (like who the evil fairy was that was popping up AND one of the things that happened at the end), there were others that completely surprised me (like people actually listening to Evelyn--which made me so happy). Ryker continues to impress me, despite his princely aires, but I think I liked him more because Liam really started to annoy me with certain actions. Even with him annoying me, I want all three of them (and Becca and Jada and even Camilla) to get their HEAs--but with how the author set up Evy's life, I'm willing to bet she's not afraid to make an ending bittersweet and I'm absolutely concerned that one of Evy's love interests isn't going to make it out of this series alive.

Anywho, thoroughly loved the book and can't wait for the last one to come out.

This sparkling sequel to One Iridescent Night had me hooked from the get-go. I enjoyed this book much more than the first one, and the ending left me with my jaw on the floor.

***Spoilers ahead***

I particularly loved how—in true heroine's journey fashion—Evy has the power of shielding. She had more agency in this novel than in the first, and she's starting to come into her power in a way that's satisfying and empowering.

Another aspect of this book that I loved was the representation of Apep's mind control. For example, the reader is in Ryker's head while Apep is influencing him and can see the shifts in his thoughts and feelings. This jacks up the story tension to the point where I wanted to scream at the characters.

Although I enjoyed many things about the book, there were a couple of downfalls for me: I found Liam quite whiny this time around (I still love him, though), and the light/dark fairy trope isn't sitting right with me. I hope this trope is flipped on its head or at least shows some nuance in book 3.

In any case, my heart breaks for where the story is left at the end, but I'm excited to see the cavalry ride in and save the day in the next instalment!

Now that Evy has been reinstated as a Lady of the Court, her life should be much easier. Alas, fate had other plans. As Evy works on nurturing her newfound magic, she must also deal with the attentions of Liam, her childhood love, and the king, Ryker, who she met and connected with at the ball. Evy is torn between two men and two worlds, and as she struggles with her indecision, her darkest and deepest fears come to life before her very eyes.

Wow!!! This book was one big rollercoaster, and I loved every second of it. Evy. I really felt her indecision here, both as she tried to decide between Ryker and Liam and as she struggled to hide her fairy heritage. I think she is so strong, and I admire her for her tenacity and courage.

Wik is a master storyteller; she somehow answered my questions and left me with more questions, which is an art that is not easily mastered. This book has sweet romance, agonizing angst, and incredible action. Oh, and that ending nearly killed me!!! I can’t wait for book three!!!

I want to yell at the top of my lungs and encourage everyone to read this story. I can't tell you how excited I was to finally be able to read the second book. The characters development, pacing, and world building was written with perfect detail for you to enjoy every word on the page. The love triangle kept me on my toes and no doubt wanted to pull out my hair at times. The romance was spot on with specks all throughout .

Liam is my absolute favorite character and a book boyfriend I refuse to share.
"She was the only thing I ever wanted for myself."

Don't get my wrong, Ryker the King was a character I loved getting his perspective on things.

The cliffhanger left me with an open mouth of shock and excitement. I'm not going to say any spoilers because you need to read this. I'm counting the days until the 3rd book. Thank you Brianne for the Advance Readers Copy and the story you shared with us all.

I loved this follow-up to the first in the Iridescent series. I really enjoy diving deeper into character development for the three main characters. This book definitely kept me on my toes, because of course I knew SOMETHING was happening and schemes were in the works, but I couldn't quite piece it all together until Wik wrapped it up in a nice little bow at the end. It's usually easy to see how things will play out, so I enjoyed the ongoing guessing game.

There's still a book three coming, so it's hard to say for certain, but I might not love how the love interests shake out. There were some scenes where I thought, "If someone made me feel the way ___ made Evelyn feel, I wouldn't be sticking around." BUT, I know there are some mitigating factors at play, so I'll reserve judgement on that for now.

Ultimately, regardless how it actually plays out, I was (and am) invested in each character. Wik writes the characters in a way that evokes emotion and empathy, and that is such a talent!

Back at the retelling of an old classic, Cinderella.

Evy is still facing her PTSD, it didn't magically disappear- great sign that the author knows something about trauma and its after effects. Appreciate that!

Ugh! Why oh why did that have to happen to Ryker? 😭
He changed throughout this book to give Liam a clear path to Evy. I understand he was under Apep's influence, but I feel like that wasn't the only reason he changed...idk though maybe it was. It just sucked for me that he ended up the way he did.🥺

Liam has always and will always be weak...nope don't care if in book 3 he is a hero, not at all. He has not once thought about Evy as she is now, took the time to understand her, believed in her, or thought past HIS feelings. Point blank, I don't like him🙅🏾‍♀️.

I didn't rate this 5 stars as it's not as good for me as book one. What started as an original retelling of a classic, turned into more of a typical YA book. That was disappointing, as I really enjoyed book one. The characters suddenly all became whiney and I mean EVERYONE seemed to be internally whining about something. Maybe that's part of the anguish they were facing at the time🤷🏽‍♀️, I honestly hope so!

I would still recommend this book as there are some surprises and it's still a good read.

*Thank you to the author and bookfunnel for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review*

Honest bookworm review--
GOOD pace, this book I feel is well placed  in the YA fantasy genre and would be great for tweens/teems qith the writing style and plot. While I do find it good, I also find myself predicting a bit too much which I believe is just because I am older.

A bit slow going easy read but then at the midway point 👉 things starts to get serious and the end half really grips one in place wondering what shall happen to Evelyn, faieries and the two boys vying for her heart

Fairies,  fairy tales, magic, triangle love for teens, best friends  and trouble afoot is all happening.
Personally if you enjoy YA and fairies with low key romance---go start the series now and then suffer with me over the cliffhanger lol!!

A huge thanks to Brianne Wik for sending me an ARC of An Evanescent Shadow!
In short, WOW. This. Book.

I honestly may have loved this more than the first book. The story was a bit slow in the beginning, introducing new events and setting the important ground work for future parts of the series. But then at the end, everything just exploded. It was WILD. I still don’t know what to think. All I know is that I loved every second of it.

This book truly had everything I could possibly want:
Great writing? Check.
Super addictive quality? Check.
Fun read that still had a lot of depth? Check.
An intriguing plot that kept growing and growing? Check.
An amazing male love interest? Check!
Steamy, delicious scenes that kept me wanting more? Check!
Crazy, amazing twists that I did not see coming? CHECK!
An ending that sets up SO much excitement and suspense for book 3? CHECK!!

I don’t even know how to fully summarize what a blast reading this book was for me. It consumed my entire weekend, and I could do nothing else. Between the slowly building plot line and the absolutely SUBLIME romance, I kept wanting to see what came next. With every page, things just got more and more exciting, all the way until the end. I don’t think I’ve ever read an ending of a book that so powerfully sets up the final book.

This series really is just top notch for me. If you haven’t read it yet, then honestly you should correct that immediately. You will not regret it.

5 stars!

I can’t put into words how beautifully this series is written. The characters are so complex and relatable.
The love how the first book is the basic retelling of Cinderella and by then second book it’s a whole world and story line of its own. By the 2nd book I forgot it was even a retelling because the world and characters just became something of their own. I was able to guess what would happen but was never confident because the whole time I found myself trying to piece the puzzles together to figure out who the dark fairy was. I finished the book wishing I had the next one and cannot wait for it to come out!

This one begins where the first one ended. Evelyn is back at her estate, taking time for herself, and trying to learn more about herself and her newly discovered powers. She is trying to find peace and become more confident.
Back at the palace, Ryker and Liam are trying to adapt to the new situation. They feel Evelyn's absence and the growing distance between them.

I'm in the minority here. I wish there were more action and less moping. They aren't acting like the adults they should be.
I thought Evelyn would grow in this book, become stronger and more confident. I'm disappointed in this series so far.
I hope the third book ends with a bang.

Beautiful and Suspenseful

I didn't expect anything less from Brianne. I knew book 2 would be just as captivating. She makes it so easy to fall in love (and hate) with every character. Beautiful story that also had me yelling at the book saying "Can't you see what's happening!?" Absolutely excited for book 3!

An Evanescent Shadow (Iridescent #2) by Brianne Wik. I received this book through Prolific Works and am now doing an honest review. In this book a shadow hangs over her head as young Evelyn learns that fresh starts don't solve everything and hard decisions can't be avoided. Wrestling with the fear of her past, hidden magic, and the choice between two unknown futures, Evelyn is forced to face the unthinkable... her worst nightmare. Some of the twists in this book you don't see coming. I enjoyed reading this book and looking forward to book three. This book is available on Amazon
