Love Started #1

It Started with a Sunset

Rate this book
For these two workplace opposites, attraction caught them by surprise.

Summer Graham’s life is just how she likes it—surrounded by people in both her personal life and in her work life as an admissions recruiter at a university. Want to go on an adventure? She’s your gal. Want a serious relationship? She can probably introduce you to someone who does, but it’s not her.

Brock McMillan spends his time striving for perfection, being a good older brother, and enjoying his job helping students get college scholarships. Oh, and disagreeing with Summer on pretty much everything that goes on in the office.

Not that it’s purposeful. Their ideas are just kind of like their office spaces—Brock’s is minimalist and logical (but Summer will tell you it’s where ideas go to die) and Summer’s is lively, fun, and creative (but Brock will tell you it’s chaotic).

They’re unwillingly teamed up to run Aquamoose Tracks together—the big overnight event put on by the Welcome Center at the university where they both work. And even though the event is literally all fun and games (and, okay, a healthy dose of info), neither of them thinks they’ll survive working together so closely.

And they definitely never expect to fall in love.

I had so much fun reading this lighthearted and delightful book. Summer is just such a breath of fresh air. She is just full of energy, joy and a desire to help others and lift them in their lives.

Brock, well, he's not quite sure what to make of Summer and her constant joy and sunshine. He was a fun leading man and his personality was a great balance for Summer's. But I loved when he started really getting to know her better and was pulled in by her sweetness just like everyone else that came around her.

I loved watching these two interact and work together, learning that both of their strengths together is a good thing.

The idea of having this story set on a college campus with the recruiting office employees was so much fun. I've never read a book with that setting or grouping of characters. It was great! I was transported back to those fun college days, especially when I was an ambassador for new students for a year.

I laughed out loud so many different times throughout this book. Summer's antics were just so much fun. Especially her late night escapade, the fluffy fun yellow dress and so many others. And for you romance fans, there is plenty of sweet and clean chemistry brewing between Summer and Brock.

If you're wanting a lighthearted, comedic and swoony read, pick up this new one from Meg Easton. If you haven't read her books before, you're in for a treat!

Content: Clean.

Happy Reading!!!

Meg Easton is one of those authors. The kind that you know you can pick up their books and enjoy it. Her books always make me happy. And this one is no different.

I loved everything about Summer. She seemed like she just jumped off the page. I loved the way she made everyone around her happy in any way she could. During one part, she buys this ball gown. And she wears it every where she goes, just because she can. I loved how spontaneous Summer is.

Then there is Brock. He’s the kind of guy with lists of things that he needs to do and when he needs to do them. And he sticks to the lists. I loved watching how Summer helped him to let loose a little. These two characters really complemented each other. Watching them fall in love was the best!

I loved everything about Lake Baldwin State University too. It seems like a most idyllic place to work and to go to school.

This book is so great! You need to read it!

I loved how different the MC were. It's a great opposite attract romance that wasn't a bad boy trope and really, we need more of those! I loved how Summer was a little crazy, go with the flow, etc. but also, she worked hard. She got stuff done. It was an interesting character choice and I loved it, found it maybe a bit inspiring. Because I am neither fun or a getter doner. It's fine. I'm good at other things. Anyway, I liked how there were two seemingly opposing traits that fit together so so well.
.
There's some great romance, the chemistry is wonderful, the characters are all good people. And I mentioned this in my notes but I just need to once more mention the to do list. I literally aww-ed out loud. So so cute.

4.5 stars this was a super sweet contemporary romance with major Hallmark vibes. In fact, I'd love to watch this as a movie. Easton has such a tender way of writing her characters, they feel like friends and you always are invested in their happily ever after. That is true for this story. Brock and Summer have worked together for years, but they've never really gotten to know one another. When they are assigned a campus project together, they start to realize the attraction and connection they have. What follows is a sweet love story of balance and friendship.
Content is clean.

Super Cute!

Okay. The ending of this book made it for me! It was absolutely adorable! The story between Brock and Summer was super sweet and well paced. I didn’t get as invested as I usually do, which is why I gave it four stars. But…it was still a fun contemporary romance that was light hearted and brought me back to my college days.

Such a cute book!!! Love the opposites attract romance and the small college life feel.

An absolutely adorable opposites attract romance that readers will squeal and swoon over. From the turn of the first page, readers will fall in love with this campus admissions office opposites attract staff romance. Summer, an admissions recruiter, and Brock, helps students learn and apply for scholarships, are thrown together in a welcome committee and are stuck planning a student welcome event together. Readers will love the tug of war Summer and Brock have as they are forced to work together. And they start to fall for each other once they recognize that together their strengths and weaknesses help balance each other out and that they can work together even though they are different and have different ideas. This is such a cute and sweet story that readers will thoroughly enjoy.

This is a totally sweet, clean love story between Summer and Brock who work together at the Welcome Center of a small university in South Dakota. Though they have worked together for years, they never really paid each other a lot of attention until they were assigned to work on a project together. They are a classic case of opposites attract, but they find that their differences are what make them work so well together. As uncertainties and fears start to creep up in their relationship, they must decide if true love is worth the effort. I really enjoyed the setting, I think it's unique and hasn't really been done before. The cast of characters is lovely, and I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more from them in future books. I thought the story was a little slow getting started, but once the love story kicked in, it was great. The author obviously knows how to write a great story. I received an ARC copy of this book to review, but that hasn't influenced my opinion.

ETA: This time around I listened to the audiobook. Even better! Hubby listened to the last few chapters--at his insistence.

A charming story about two people with very different priorities and views of life. Their journey to love and finding out how much those very differences can complement each other is a delight!

Not my fave but a cute sweet romance!

I picked up It Started with a Sunset by Men Easton mainly because it was part of the Summer Road Trip on Feel Good Fiction. I like small town romances for the most part and though I prefer a little spice with my romance, I can appreciate a clean sweet love story. However, even though this book was well-written, it never grabbed my heart like others recommended on the Feel Good Fiction site.
To begin with I never could relate to the characters. It is not Ms. Easton fault. Her characters are very well-developed and remain true to character throughout the story. The problem is me and the fact that I am one of those "women of a certain age". The 20-something personalities and university setting made me want to scream "oh grow up!" , most of the time. Even when I tried to relate Summer and Brock to my 30 year old daughter and her friends, the characters just fell short of my expectations. As I continued to read this novel, Summer and Brock, especially, had moments of profound growth and maturity. And when I discussed this book with my daughter, she enjoyed everything about it. So I had to conclude the book would probably appeal to younger women.
I love being able to virtually travel through my reading. Again the university setting was so well- described it was liking being there. My daughter and I instantly recalled some of our college tours her junior/senior year. However, I would have preferred more of an inside look at the town itself.
So, while It Started with a Sunset, was not one of my favorites, I wouldn't let it stop others from picking it up. My daughter especially would recommend it to the late 20-30 crowd.

A sweet story of discovering love in spite of misconceptions
Sometimes our misconceptions or preconceived notions can stand in the way of not only good friendships but love. Summer was fun and free. She liked to be spontaneous and connect with everyone she met. Coming from a family that did not have strong relationships, she worked hard to get to know everyone she crossed paths with and she knew Brock. She knew he was rule bound, totally unspontaneous, a list maker, and most of all no fun. Summer worked in the college’s student center meeting with new and potential students to get them excited about what was in store on campus. Brock worked in the student center lining up and helping secure financing for the students who needed help. He worked long hours to help as many students as he could. He knew what it was like to wonder if you could even afford college and the joy and relief when the financial aid was available. They were as different as any two people could be. Then the unthinkable happens, another student center worker needs emergency surgery just before Summer’s big recruitment program leaving Summer short staffed. Soon Summer and Brock find themselves assigned to work together to make the program a success. There is simply no other way to make things work. As they begin this assignment, they both are surprised to find that their perceptions of the other person weren’t quite true and the other person has things they need to learn. Join them on their journey to make an event successful and grow in ways they couldn’t imagine. I received an early copy and this is my honest review.

Guys, I love Summer! And no not the season, I’m referring to Meg Easton’s newest female lead 😍. She is so good at being spontaneous, creating fun, and trying to be a rebel in small ways. (Unless you are referring to the dress incident, that was a big thing 😂)

And Brock is her total opposite: logical, perfectionist, strict rule follower. He’s the guy who plans out his day to the minute to make sure he can get everything done within the day. If something comes and throws the plans into the air, he needs to take the time to redo his list before he can accomplish the goals for the day.

But while Summer and Brock are workplace opposites, they both have something in common: a passion for the school they work at. Though they both have opposing ideas on how to display it and how to help prospective students want to go there…

So when they are told to work together on an overnight event called Aquamoose Tracks, they are sure that things won’t go well. Though there are a few hiccups, Summer and Brock are surprised to find that they can work well together on an event. That it might be a little bit fun and they help each other to grow into better people. That they might be falling in love…

And that epilogue 😍 I loved that so much! Such a great way to get us ready for the next book ❤️

If you want to grab yourself a copy, right now-until October 26 the kindle edition is only $0.99!

Such an adorable story

My oh my! I've been a fan of Meg Easton's books for awhile but hadn't read anything recently. However, with book 2 coming out in this series soon, I decided to read It Started with a Sunset so I can read the next one when it comes out and I was not disappointed.

Summer and Brock both work at their alma mater helping to recruit and bring in potential freshman. And boy are they different. Brock is a planner and Summer is spontaneous. She likes to master things and move on while he tries to be perfect in everything he does. This causes them to clash at first until they're thrown together to plan a huge recruiting event for the college.

Having worked in higher education for years (including in recruiting) and having worked events similar to Aquamoose Tracks, I was so sucked into the storyline! It was definitely original. Summer and Brock were both likable characters (albeit I sympathize more with Brock as some of Summer's winging it moments stressed me out) and I found myself rooting for them. This book was a quick read and sometimes felt like it just flew past certain things but not in any way that really took away from enjoying it overall. I highly recommend!

Cute contemporary romance. Both of these characters are strong, and complete opposites. You'd think they could never be a couple but it is a case of opposites attract. And could these two be any more opposite of each other? I don't think so. Summer is fun, impulsive and not a rule follower. Brock is more somber, maker of lists and a big rule follower. Both of them are capable of finding a happy medium to function in their work but anywhere else in life they are happy in their extremes. I think I am more like Brock than Summer though not quite so extreme. I would go crazy in a close relationship with someone like Summer. Not that I wouldn't like her but I am too much of a rule follower and would just go nuts. Still, I believed that Brock would be happy with her. She really does have a delightful personality.
I love that Summer's dad worked so hard to improve his father skills and that he was wise when needed. And I loved the bit of craziness in Brock's family.
It was an enjoyable read. I look forward to reading Avery's story.

yellow ball gowns vs plans about plans

Summer was the girl radiating sunshine who made everyone happy and having fun. But who helped her; the little girl who had a very uninterested mom and planned and carried out her own birthday party at 6, the dad who loved her and provided everything but his time. She had 9 majors in college and the only thing she committed to long term was her job. Brock was passionate about helping students get financial aid, but because he had a very chaotic childhood he overcompensated by meticulously planning everything out and trying to make things perfect. This is such a great story of two opposites filling the cracks in each other’s personalities and loving each other as they are in their imperfect persons. This is the second book I’ve read in this series and they are easily standalone as I read them out of order. Summer needs to have confidence in herself and her feelings and get over her FOMO about making choices. Brock needs to let go of his rigidity and be spontaneous. So great to see this in this HEA and how everyone in their office were cheering for them. Squeaky clean!

Some people believe that the "opposites attract" relationship just doesn't work but this story proves that it can! Summer and Brock's story is just so good! At the beginning of the book, you really think that there's no way they could ever fall in love - they are just too different and how could their characters ever come to the point where a relationship would work? But the author creates a beautiful story about how Summer and Brock, who are co-workers at a college Welcome Center, working together during a project with possible new students, get to know each other on a more personal level and as they do, they see that their differences make them perfect for each other! Brock is super organized and has lists for everything. Summer is the "fun girl" and doesn't really commit to things outside her job. She just floats along. They each drive each other crazy at first but as they get to know WHY they do the things they do, understanding and love happens! I love the secondary characters too. Such a fun book! Very light-hearted but there are some emotional moments too.

It Started With a Sunset is a wonderful story of a realistic opposites attract that gives you all of the feels. I have never desired to work in an admission office, until this book, and now oh my goodness it makes me rethink my college years (okay not truly, but still). Both Summer and Brock had such polar opposite personalities that both have positives and negatives. I loved how author Meg Easton was able to show their personalities, interest, etc. In ways that made the story even more enjoyable.

This book is a quick read you'll have a difficult time putting down. So grab a cup of tea, a cozy blanket, and if you're like me and cry like a baby at happy endings...grab a few tissues haha.

I absolutely recommend this book along with all others by Meg Easton. They are clean, fun, sweet, and have adorable laugh out loud moments that you are sure to see tiny bits of yourself in each character and relate to.

A new fun read from Meg Easton places all the action at Lake Baldwin State University and the Welcome Center. Summer Graham is the best at her job where she is in charge of the ambassadors who host prospective students. She's enthusiastic and enjoys life and thrives on creativity and this job gives her that.
Opposite of that is Brock: serious, neat, and runs his life according to his to-do list. He's not a spur of the moment guy and soon finds that working with Summer will try his carefully planned routine.
The story is very character centered and each chapter switches between Summer and Brock. It seemed like there was great potential for the plot but for me it fell a little flat. I couldn't really get into Summer's character and was more interested in some of the supporting characters. However if you're looking for a quick read this would be a perfect fit.
I'm grateful for the advance copy I received from the author and all thoughts and opinions are expressly mine.

I love a good opposites attract romance--- and Brock and Summer's certainly is that! Brock is on the serious side-- very much a rule follower who loves his lists. Summer on the other hand is much more go with flow and adventurous. They have worked together at a college admissions office for several years, but when they are forced to work together on an event, their feelings toward one another start to change. As someone who is definitely more like Brock, but wishes she were more like summer, I just absolutely adored both of these characters. They perfectly balanced each other, and I just adore their sweet chemistry. They worked together well--- both as coworkers and personally. This was the perfect blend of heartfelt tenderness and sweet and funny moments that had me smiling throughout. And that ending? Absolutely perfect!

It Started with a Sunset is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.

Such a cute quick read romance. this book proves the saying "opposites attract". The two main characters Summer and Brock have been always at odds and contradicting each other for years, with completely different personalities it has been really hard for these two to find common ground, until they are forced to work together planning an event for the college admission department where both of them work.
Suddenly sparks fly and they found each other enthralled one with the other.

Is love in the air and are these two learning to put down their differences and insecurities aside to become a couple?

I enjoyed reading this clean romance, loved the way the characters interacted with each other and the story between them.

I love this book with Summer and Brock. It is a great story. I love and could relate to Summer and how she went through a handful of majors before she chose one, so she could graduate. So I enjoyed the campus tour and hearing about her story and all her majors that she had majored in, and then changed. I also loved Summer's yellow dress. Throughout the story Summer is such a kind and loving person who does not really care what people think about her. She is very self confident and happy with who she is. I loved all the different characters and the story line. I can't wait to read Avery and Nikolas' story. I would highly recommend this book and any book that Meg Easton writes. She is a great author with uplifting and fun books!

This was a fun, sweet romance set on the campus of Lake Baldwin State University, where Summer Graham works as an admissions recruiter. Summer was a unique character who had leftover commitment issues from her childhood. I liked that she was a fun, vivacious character that truly added to the story.

The book got really interesting when Brock, who also works at the University, was paired up with Summer to organize and pull off the Aquamoose Tracks overnighter. It was fun watching the characters clash because they were complete opposites. Brock is a rule following perfectionist that likes to plan things out. I enjoyed their verbal sparring and possible romance developing. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved the setting at a small university full of school traditions and school spirit. Summer is so exuberant, and her character has so much energy. Brock's character is very precise, striving for perfection. I appreciated that Summer accepted Brock's characteristics even though they were quite opposite in many aspects. Even though they were so different, they were also the same when it came to being passionate about the things that are important to them. This is an opposites attract trope, and the chemistry is awesome. It's completely sweet and clean, but the chemistry and attraction is written so well within the genre.

Probably one of the best opposites attract books I’ve read in a long while! Summer and Brock are total and complete opposites, but where one lacks, the other thrives and they come together to build this great, balanced relationship. Summer is an extrovert and thrives in social situations and spontaneity while Brock lives his life by a list and prefers control over chaos. However, as the two work together, they find how both can come together to create a great team. Their relationship isn’t without bumps, but with the help of loving and supportive friends and family, they are able to work through their fears and find their happily ever after.

You have to love Brock & Summer. They are so different but somehow they fit together. It’s amazing how happy and upbeat Summer is considering her childhood. She’s one of those people who light up a room and Brock isn’t immune to her charm. She makes his life less black and white and adds a lot of colour. Over the course of the story, you can see the changes each makes to the other. They really complement each other. There was some laugh out loud moments and some angsty moments and the ending was perfection. I’m totally looking forward to the next book.

I received an ARC from the author but this is my honest review.

This was such a sweet story about Summer and Brock. They both had been in college together but Summer always wanted to have fun and Brock was the serious type. But has they work together on a project they soon realize that they are made for each other. I loved how she wanted this yellow ball gown and he said “where would you ever wear that”? But she found plenty of times to wear the gown even while bowling. It was sad to realize what Summer’s mom had said to her when she was a little girl but Summer prevailed. Meg Easton writes feel good stories like no one else.
