When scandal strikes her family, this debutante must act quickly!
Welcome to book 1 in the steamy new series Determined Debutantes by bestselling author Bianca Blythe.
Eloisa Holt is not the type of woman to wander London on her own. In fact, she’s not even the type of woman to consider such a thing. After all, her governesses hailed her as a paragon of everything proper. But when a nude painting of her mother scandalizes the ton, Eloisa must stop more paintings from being displayed. This debutante is desperate.
Lord Cornelius Chichester knows the first rule of being a best friend:
Don’t fall in love with your best friend’s sister.
Unfortunately, that rule becomes difficult to follow when he discovers Eloisa by herself at an indecent hour. Still, perhaps helping his best friend’s younger sister is honorable. He may have promised his friend long ago he would never marry one of his sisters, but Cornelius never promised he would not be of assistance.
The Secret Life of a Debutante was an enjoyable read featuring a romance between a viscount and his best friend's younger sister.
Miss Eloisa Holt is looking forward to her first season and finding a husband. But when a nude painting of her mother is unveiled at her first ball, Eloisa's season goes out the window. After confronting her mother and discovering there are more paintings, Eloisa hatches a plan to stop them from being displayed. With the help of Lord Cornelius Chichester, her brother's best friend, Eloisa works to destroy all of the paintings. Cornelius promised his friend a long time ago that he would leave his sisters alone, but when Eloisa tells him of her plan, he can't let her go through with it on her own.
The premise of The Secret Life of a Debutante was a good one, a debutante has to track down and destroy nude paintings of her mother before they ruin her chance at making a match. That aspect of the story was a lot of fun and included scenes ranging from Eloisa going undercover as a footman in a duke's residence to her and Cornelius scaling the outside of an earl's townhouse to break in. I really enjoyed watching the pair work together to destroy the paintings. During their escapades, Eloisa and Cornelius develop feelings for each other and it doesn't take long for them to give in to the attraction building between them. I enjoyed that aspect of their romance although I did feel like their relationship was missing something to get me fully invested. The drama that ensued when Eloisa's brother finds out about their romance was a bit much when you consider he wanted to ship her and her sisters off to be companions or governesses after the scandal of the first painting.
Overall The Secret Life of a Debutante was a fun read and I'd recommend it if you're looking for a historical romance with a fun premise.
The Secret Life of a Debutant is book one in Bianca Blythe’s newest series, Determined Debutantes. This is a fast-paced, lighthearted, and slightly scandalous adventure type regency romance featuring a couple of my favorite tropes: Falling for brothers best friend mixed with a rake who falls in love.

Now they just have to find all the scandalous paintings and reveal their relationship to Eloisa’s older brother.

A ridiculous plot & ridiculous dialogue made for an annoying reading experience. Shallow characters & insta-lust didn’t help either.
[What I liked:]
•The premise of a debutante’s bohemian mother causing a scandal with a nude painting is a unique one, & had potential.
[What I didn’t like as much:]
•Timothy is a total jerk. He doesn’t care about comforting his sisters when their lives are upended, he just can’t get rid of them fast enough. He’s also a jerk to his supposed best friend. Why does Eloisa even care about his feelings?
•Quite a few plot holes, including minor things that should’ve been easy to catch & edit. How come Constance’s footmen wear exactly the same livery that the Duke of Dartmouth’s footmen do? How is it possible that Eloisa has never had a single headache in her entire life? Why does Eloisa need to do to Brighton, couldn’t Cornelius take care of the painting there by himself?
•If Cornelius’ goal is to help protect Eloisa’s reputation, why the heck does he take advantage of her sexually? She’s young, naïve, with nearly ruined prospects, so if he really cared about her why would he do that?
•Unfortunate anachronisms: racquetball wasn’t invented until 1950; at a formal evening event, Cornelius is somehow wearing only a shirt underneath his tailcoat—what happened to his waistcoat?
•Why does Eloisa assume that Cornelius is denying everything to her brother when she finds them arguing at Cornelius’ house? Why doesn’t she just find out what he wanted to talk to her about? I really get annoyed with big misunderstandings that could have easily been avoided.
•So much insta-lust. Like all Cornelius apparently thinks about is sexy times, to the point of ridiculousness. Not to mention that Cornelius’ main concern about pursuing Eloisa is that she seems interested in is his body only, & he wants to marry for love & deeper feelings. Yet they don’t take the time to establish deeper feelings, & seemingly base the whole ensuing relationship on lust.
•The dialogue is incredibly clunky & superfluous. The writing in general is not great either.

[I received an ARC ebook copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. Thank you for the book!]
Honestly, I hate to even review this book. I found it utterly ridiculous. The steamy scenes were just silly and I was laughing instead of swooning. The dialogue was awkward. And, although I thought the storyline was intriguing, it was poorly done. I found so many errors with the timeline…he was fondling her breasts and the the next paragraph, her breast had apparently been put back in her dress because they were exposed again! Another instance, he was ‘inside her’ then all the sudden we were right back to starting over! It really was crazy!
Also the characters were bothersome. Her sisters did not object to Eloisa attempting all this scandalous stuff, in fact, they were sound asleep when she came after sneaking into a party as a footman to destroy the paintings! Her brother Timothy and his wife were so rude to the girls after the scandal. Cornelius barely hesitated in helping Eloisa pull off all these stunts. He even dressed up as an old woman to fool her brother!
I’m going to just stop there as it won’t do any good to carry on. I just want to move on to another book and let this one slide from my memory.

Eloisa and her sisters had just started their London season. They arrive at the society ball. However, a scandalous painting of their mother is uncovered, and they are told to leave. The sexy bits were probably the best. The story overall was o.k. I will read the rest of this series though. 3☆
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.
Eloisa Holt is the perfect debutante, but on the eve of her and sister's debuts, a nude portrait of their mother is made public, and they are tarred with the same brush. Now her perfect reputation is in tatters, and she must do whatever it takes to ensure that no other paintings come to light, and rescue her future, and those of her sisters. She's desperate, and risks everything, but luckily, the only person who notices what she is doing is her brother's best friend, Cornelius. Lord Cornelius Chichester may think he's kidding everyone, but it's clear he's falling for his best friend's sister, and though he's trying to be honourable in protecting her, the closer they get in their efforts to hide the paintings, the harder it is to stay part.
I wasn't too sure what to expect from this book. I thought that Eloisa would be a little bit too prim and proper for my liking, but she had a feisty persona hidden from view, but that she used when protecting those she cared about. As the oldest girl, she felt the brunt of the scrutiny, so she wanted to shoulder the burden and protect her sisters as much as possible. Even taking risks she could never have imagined, but she was willing to do it, at least for them. When Cornelius found her out, she was worried, but surprised he wanted to help. She'd had feelings for him for years, but never expected anything to come of them, so treated him as a friend, which was great for them both to open up to each other, and see the true person. An enjoyable Regency romance, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
So I read one of Bianca Blythe's books back in 2016. When I created my list of all the books I've read, I didn't remember that book so I researched her and it said no steamy sex. So I just listed her the "single book read" section. Fast forward 7 years, and here we are. How this came about is, I've read all my latest new release books and now looking for more to read because I still have 8 days before any of my regular authors have their new releases out. I asked a few FB groups for recommendations of authors to read. One said Dragonblade Publishing, which a few of my favorites authors are with, they had a “Flame” division. I saw Bianca Blythe had some books in that division so trying her again.
Loved Eloisa and Cornelius. Such a cute read. Made me smile quite a few times as I was reading. Super cute couple and I loved their story. Sex was pretty decent, not pagefuls like some but for a short read, not bad. It was a quick read but I still felt she got good depth in the story and the characters but could have been so much more if it was longer. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
The premise drew me in, but wow did I not like the writing style, and it was super confusing - to the point I thought another character was going to be the mc/love interest in the first chapter.
When scandal breaks over the Holt family's head due to the careless actions of their mother, Lord Cornelius Chichester has no choice but to intervene. Although he has a reputation in society as a rogue, he nevertheless cares deeply about the shame that is being rained down on his best friend and his sisters. Despite his promise to Timothy to stay away from his sisters, Cornelius cannot with good conscience allow Lady Eloisa to tackle her mother on her own. Discovering that more scandal is about to be unleashed, Cornelius and Eloisa have a race against time to resolve the matter. The plot of the story is one that earns the reader's sympathy, however, it becomes secondary to the attraction between the main characters, which diminished the adventure somewhat. Ultimately this turned out to be a quick and easy read that comes to a happy conclusion. I received a copy of this novella as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I received a free copy from NetGalley and this is my freely given review.
This was a very short novel, and while I enjoyed it, it felt like there were many questions leftover for me.
Eloisa Holt and her two sisters are debuting in London, sponsored by her brother Timothy and his wife. The night of their first ball, at Lady Richmond's, their plans are cut terribly short. She had decided to show off her daughter to one of the eligible bachelors, Cornelius Chichester, by having her showcase her art knowledge with one of Lord Richmond's new purchases by a new, popular artist, Julius. A crowd is gathered in the library when she unveils the new piece, which ends up being a scandalous painting of a woman in the nude. A familiar looking woman to many of them, including Cornelius...
As the Holts enter the ball, they realize things are not quite right, by the reactions of some of the guests, and are horrified to find out that the woman in the painting is the mother of the three Holt sisters, who all bear a close resemblance to her. This leads many to assume one or all of them modelled for the painting, and they are all kicked out of the ball by Lady Richmond. This ruins the Holt sister's social prospects.
Cornelius is a good friend of Timothy and gains possession of the scandalous painting. When he gets there, he finds the eldest, Eloisa, sneaking out. She had decided to find their mother to confront her about the paintings. Timothy is unable to persuade her to go home, and follows to help her. They find out that Mommy Dearest not only willingly posed for the one painting, but also doesn't care how it affects the family, and that there are several others. Timothy had the same idea as Eloisa, and finds her there with Chichester, and is infuriated.
Timothy, being the supportive and helpful brother that he is (insert sarcasm here), decides the only thing he can do is find them all positions and send them off, as governesses or companions, since they are likely never to marry. After all, even if it is not one of them in the paining, they are all tainted by it and ruined.
Eloisa and Timothy come together to prevent the other paintings of nude Mom from harming the reputation of her family and further. In the process, they become closer and fall in love.
I did enjoy this short novel; it was a fun and quick read. I found that Mom was a bit of a one dimensional character, there was only the one scene for her, and she came off quite selfish and uncaring of the consequences of her actions on her daughters, but one senses that maybe there is more to why that is. Perhaps a bad marriage of convenience to the father. She is the second wife, with Timothy being her stepson, and there appears to be hostility from Timothy against her. Also, he is quick to dismiss all his sisters as being unmarriageable after the ball, and to think of sending them off to positions as governesses and companions. Is this a sign of disregard for them? Residual resentment as they are his half sisters of a woman he does not like? Why not also work to diminish the scandal, save their reputations, or at least try to find them suitors in other less popular areas, or lower in status so they at least could have families, homes of their own, and potential future happiness and security?
Regardless, I enjoyed the developing attraction between Chichester and Eloisa, and some of the antics they got into to get access to the other paintings. I am also curious as to the hostility towards the Holts that another neighbour has, and why he is so determined to despise them, and try to ruin them further. His mechanisms to ruin the innocent daughters with the paintings of the mother seem very hateful and ungentlemanly, and this incurs some curiosity on my part as to why he would do this. I am hoping this is answered in a future novel.
The Secret Life of a Debutante by Bianca Blythe is a very entertaining story of a mother, who after being stuck with a husband that she disliked and upon his death lead the life she wanted to: artists and parties. At their first ball, the three sisters were witness to a new painting being unveiled. It was covered with a cloth, which was odd, but turned out to be a portrait of a naked woman. Oh, my God, it was their other. They all looked very much like her so it was only moments before the guests were pointing their fingers. They were ruined. Eloisa, the eldest, decided to confront her mother, and ask her to stop. As she was sneaking out of the house for that very purpose, she was caught by Cornelius, Viscount Chichester, who insisted upon accompanying her. Her mother thought it was funny. As they were leaving the "studio" where they had found her mother, they ran into Timothy, her older half-brother, coming for the same purpose. He was furious.
The paintings had to be destroyed. Cornelius had the first one but there was to be an exhibit of three more in several days at the home of the Duke of Dartmouth and he also had another in Brighton. Watching Eloisa and Cornelius deal with these painting is hilarious and also the basic plot of the story. Eloisa is a wonderful character, full of vim and vigor, not really caring what people thought, except for those paintings. Cornelius is a rake, until he spends time with Eloisa and sees her determination and imagination. He is not looking forward to approaching Timothy with his intentions toward her, but it must be done. I totally loved this book.

The characters had depth & most ere likeable but I thoroughly disliked the totally selfish mother. I really liked the three sisters Leonora, Eloisa & Sabrina & their brother Timothy. I also really liked the rakish Cornelius. The pace was good & held my interest all the way through. The race to find the paintings was secondary to the growing feelings of Cornelius & Eloisa, their attraction had been there on her part for quite a while but he suddenly discovered Timothy’s little sister had grown up. I enjoyed their road to a HEA & look forward to the rest of the series & hope the hint for Leonora is followed through My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
This is Book 1 of Ms. Blythe's Determined Debutantes series and what a wonderful start to a new series! Eloise and her two sisters make a scandalous debut into society when they arrive at a ball and discover that a painting featuring their mother in the nude has just been revealed. Eloise decides that she has to stop any more paintings from being revealed if they are to have any hope of salvaging their reputation. Cornelius is the best friend of Eloise's brother and when he discovers her out and about and alone at night, he decides to help her. No way will he go back on his promise of not falling in love and marrying one of his best friend's sisters. Or will he? This was an absolutely delightful quick read and I enjoyed the interactions and witty dialogue between Eloise and Cornelius. The story definitely captured my attention from the start and I was entertained till the end. I am looking forward to whatever scandals and mischievousness Eloise's sisters face in the coming books! Glad to recommend this!
I received a complimentary copy from Dragonblade Publishing via Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
The Secret Life of a Debutante by Bianca Blythe is a novel by a newer author. The novel is an historical romance with a couple of twists - just to keep you surprised. Eloisa Hunt is a debutante and while excited and nervous, has a problem. She discovered her mother, a scandalous person in her own right, is the subject of a series of nude portraits. This is enough to make Eloise lose her chance to become a wife and mother. The scandal is enough to make it so that Eloise ended up as a governess or a companion so as not to ruin the chances of the rest of the family.
Eloise takes matters into her hands to confront her mother and then to save her reputation. Lord Cornelius Chichester is Eloise’s brother's best friend and he knows that the sisters are off limits, but how can he not help Eloise. Together, they hatch plots to destroy art and not get caught or worse yet fall for each other.
The Secret Life of a Debutante by Bianca Blythe is a romance novel with a couple of twists that makes it stand out.
This story had intrigue, heat, love and humour. I did enjoy this book as a light read. At times the story seemed to come off a bit as a wild snowball tumbling down a hill, but I find that gave it a unique character. I absolutely love the humour in servants, have always lauded butlers to be some of best side characters on romance novels. But I’m this car it was Blair, the valet who stole the show. The scene where he questions the paint on Cornelius’ shirt was laugh out loud funny. I did find though initially I wanted to love Timothy as the supportive older brother taking care of his siblings, but I find after the initial scandal broke he quickly went from supportive to pompous jerk. The fact that he so quickly cast all thoughts aside to find the girls positions as governesses or companions as his wife could not be expected to live in the same house as with the scandalous girls came off incredibly disingenuous. Though it was masked as practicality, it truly was just thoughtless. The love of Cornelius & Eloisa though was the true cornerstone of the book.
New series! I have read several books by this author and enjoy her writing. This is the story of Cornelius and Eloisa. Eloisa Holt finds herself and siblings in the middle of a scandal, her mother has posed nude in a painting. Her 1st ball as a debutante, along with her 2 sisters and the painting is unveiled. The hostess is embarrassed and evicts the Holts sisters from the ball. Cornelius is Timothy Holt best friend, he steps in to try to save the Holts from the embarrassing situation and takes the painting out to his carriage. Only to find out there are more pictures and in the hands of a Duke that the Holts have a feud with. The two band together to find the other paintings and find a attraction during their escapades. The story was a fast read, but seemed a little lacking. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story. #NetGalley #TheSecretLifeofaDebutante
Cornelius is Eloisa secret crush and her brother's best friend! Cornelius never noticed Eloisa really until the nest he saw her sneaking off! Eloisa was determined to confront her mother and find out why she would have scandalous nude photos in other people's possession!? Cornelius goes with her and assessed the confrontation as basically Eloisa boyfriend artist didn't care that this photos would ruin his paramour grown daughters social standing in the Ton! Eloisa to her shame mother seemed also unbothered as well! No remorse was shown at all! Eloisa takes matters into her own hands to protect herself and herself and her sisters! The number one rule is don't get caught! Of course she does and the comedy of errors that befall Cornelius and Eloisa means that the do go on to try to retrieve the next paintings but somewhere along way this became less of a duty for Cornelius and more about the two of them falling in love!!!
The Secret Life of a Debutante had so much potential to be a hilarious, madcap story but it just didn't work for me. I wish the humor in the absurd situations would have been ramped up a bit, as well as the romance and chemistry between Eloisa, the desperate debutante who wants to save her and her sister's reputation after her scandalous mother poses nude, and Lord Cornelius Chichester, her brother's best friend. The plot itself was so unique I had high hopes.
What stood out the most was the really boring dialogue. Cornelius was often relegated to repeating what the other speaker said, or had entire quotes consisting of "Oh!" The book was relatively short, so many of the characters and situations could have been fleshed out a whole lot.
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
A free spirit, Eloisa's widowed mother is the lover of London's most notorious portrait painter. When a painting of her nude mother is revealed at a ball, Eloisa and her two sisters see their first seasons come to an end. Eloisa is determined to find the other paintings and Lord Cornelius Chichester is determined to help. They commit breaking and entering to remove or destroy the paintings when they find them. Sometimes with amusing results. Nevermind falling in love may be more important than the paintings. A short, light romantic romp. 3 1/2*STARS* I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
The Secret Life of a Debutante is a short book that tells the story of Elosia and Cornelius. They come together to destroy nude paintings that are of her mother. I really wanted to like this book, but it just wasn't for me. The characters seemed very immature and Cornelius seemed like a child in some scenes. There was a scene where he whines that he's brave too. I will say it was written well, but I like when the characters have more substance.
I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The last thing a new debutante needs is a scandal appearing about her mother of all things! Certain ruin is sure to erupt, especially when a painting of her mother appears, sans clothing and everyone thinks it could be her or her sisters.
What's a girl to do? Run down her mother and find out there are more paintings out there? He is one of her brother's best friends and knows to stay away from his sisters. But when one is about to get herself in more trouble, he cannot help but jump in and try to help.
So much of this made no sense. One minute they're hyper proper about Eloise going to Brighton as a companion to an old woman and the next they're sending their 18 yo sister on a stagecoach all by herself to Lancashire. Also idk if it's the writing or the narrator but the prose felt so disjointed and lacked flow. As with the other ones in the series there is no comedic timing with this narrator and the jokes are often missed. Although it's the first in the series I read it last. It didn't really matter.
Eloisa Holt and her sisters are just beginning their first London season. It looks like their mother could ruin everything for them all.
Lord Cornelius Chichester wants to help his bestfriend and his sisters, but that seems impossible.
This is an amusing historical romance where none of the characters behave in the normal way of Polite Society. All the rules are being broken. Can any of them recover??
•I received this book as an ARC from NETGALLEY! Thank you!•
A very scandalous, historical romance that it'll make you laugh and think how lonely you are at the same time. The storyline is very simple but I appreciated it. The painting business was very intriguing The characters are also enjoyable! So in conclusion I appreciate this book as a simple night reading's and I rate it 3 stars!
I enjoyed this story, it was simple and quick read. I would love to have more detailed and longer talks between main characters, in the second half of the book I felt all was too rushed and quickly displayed.
Overall, it was a nice romance. I loved heroine's courage and boldness.
I received this ARC from Netgalley, all opinions are my own.
On a quest to hide her mother's nude photos so Eloise and her sister's will not be ruined further she sets out with her brother's best friend. It is scandalous but oh so romantic. This couple were perfect together.
This is a most original story that grabs you from the beginning. I loved the writers style, the funny banter, and my emotions went nuts when the heroine dealt with her very selfish mother! It is a crazy ride and worth climbing on board for!
