If you enjoy Christmas romance stories, this is one you don’t want to miss! I absolutely loved this enchanting unique story by Laura Rollins! It had so many things that I love in a good regency romance: endearing characters with great chemistry, swoon worthy romance, secret identity, enemies to lovers trope, and witty dialogue. There was also somewhat of a reverse Pride and Prejudice feel to it.
All Alice’s adorable five year old son wants for Christmas is a new papa. Out of desperation, she suggests that perhaps Father Christmas will bring one. Anyone who knows five year olds understands that he will latch on to this idea like a dog on a bone, and he does. Having survived an uncaring father and an indifferent husband, Alice sets out to find a husband who truly loves and respects her. She decides the only way to get to know a potential suitor is to see him when he’s around other men. She invents an unheard of cousin named Mr. Allen, shears her curls, and hopes that no one will discover that Lady Nightingale and Mr. Allen are one and the same.
Lord Isaac Brooks must marry for wealth after being defrauded in a land deal by none other than Mr. Grant, Lady Nightingale’s father. When he sees Alice at a dance, he’s immediately taken with her beauty and sparkling personality. However, when he realizes who she is, he wants nothing to do with her. Despite his misgivings, he befriends her “cousin” Mr. Allen and the more he is in Lady Nightingale’s presence, the more he admires her.
Isaac and Alice are such lovely characters. Their interactions were always full of spark and fun. I particularly loved the snowman scene! Isaac is one of those Darcyesque characters who has a somewhat gruff manor, but is deeply thoughtful and caring. I enjoyed the way he would tell himself that he’s not going to seek out Lady Nightingale and then does precisely the opposite. Alice is such an intelligent yet kind character. She is immediately attracted to Isaac, but doesn’t want to give her heart to a fortune hunter so she tries to deny it. Thoroughly enjoyed all her interactions with both Isaac and her cute son Joseph.
This sweet unique regency romance completely drew me in. I was on edge the whole time wondering if and when someone would discover Alice’s disguise. The romance was so good! It’s a Christmas story that’s enjoyable any time of the year. Highly recommend this and am greatly anticipating the next book in the series. Oh, my word! This story was absolutely adorable and is now one of my favorite Christmas regency romances!
After a loveless marriage, widow Alice wants to marry again so that her son has a father but wants to avoid marrying a man like her father or her previous husband. The plan she concocts to make sure she marries a true gentleman is both brilliant and dangerous to her reputation.
I loved the enemies-to-lovers vibe, I loved Alice's determination and her love for her son, and I loved the banter and chemistry and swoony romance! Absolutely recommend this to fans of regency romance!

I absolutely LOVED this one!! 😍😍 There were so many great aspects to this storyline. I’m always a fan when it’s not your typical regency romance. The whole mistaken identity trope was super fun to read. Alice is pretending to be her nonexistent cousin and I loved how it all worked out.
A Wish for Father Christmas was one I couldn’t put down. Pretty much read it in one go and I’m so glad I did. I instantly fell in love with Isaac and his relationship with Alice, Mr. Allen, and Joseph. There was enough suspense with the mistaken identity that you were sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for everyone to discover Alice’s secret. 😂 I usually get anxiety from stuff like that. Thankfully, this one had enough hope that I wasn’t too anxious. 😅
The ending by was amazing and I am sooo looking forward to the rest of this series to see how everything ties together.

I kicked off my Christmas reading with A Wish for Father Christmas, and it was a great choice! Laura Rollins is one of my favorite recently discovered Regency authors. Though the hidden identity trope is not one I gravitate towards, I think it works so well in this story. There are just enough questions as to how exactly everything will work out. Alice is an empathetic main character. Her scheme comes from a place of wanting what is best for her son. Unfortunately, Isaac’s past greatly impacts his view of Alice, and of course, things get complicated when the hidden identity becomes more of an enemies to lovers scenario (in the best possible way). The chemistry is delightful, and the plot flows with ease. There’s also fun, snowy scenes, a meddling aunt, dancing and dinners and all of those wonderful things that I love about Regency books. This is just an all-around delightful read that’s full of charm. I’m eager to read whatever Rollins pens next!

I haven't read much romance as the genre tends to be a little over-the-top at times for me. I recently saw this series recommended as a must-read for a sweet Christmas romance and I decided to take a chance.
Oh man, am I glad I did. Not only did I breeze through this in one sitting, my heart was left filled with love and joy once I finished. Little Joseph especially stole my heart and I felt such a deep kinship with Alice that I was fully immersed in her story and loved the outcome.
Going outside my comfort zone certainly paid off with this recommendation and I can't wait to read the rest of this series.

This was such an original Regency romance and totally adorable Christmas story, though it can be read any time of the year. I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were delightful. I loved Isaac and just his super kind personality. Alice was determined to remarry for her son (whose character was also adorable), but to not find herself trapped under the rule of another uncaring gentleman. Going undercover as Mr. Allen, this had an almost "She's the Man" kind of vibe. The connection Isaac and Alice shared made for some great chemistry and I also loved the snowman and mistletoe scenes.
A clean Regency romance, this is a fun story and enjoyable read.

Such a cute read, and it really got me in the mood for more Christmas books now! So glad that there are more coming out in this series! What about you? Are you a seasonal reader, or are you like Hallmark and parade your love of Christmas around everyday (or as often as polite society deems fit, that is)?
I thought I was a “seasonal reader” and maybe that is true, because I don’t read Christmas in the summer. But, now that the weather is turning colder, I’m ready for blankets, hot chocolate, and a good book! (A fire would be nice too, but sadly I don’t have one in my house). Or maybe I can blame my new love of Christmas in October on @lauraRollins because you need this cute regency version of “She’s the Man” in your life!

The more I read of Laura Rollins’ books, the more I love them! Also, how dreamy is this cover? I am loving the winter vibe it is giving! Now back to the book because this Christmas story was absolutely darling! I loved every idea behind this book, and couldn’t wait to see how it ended. The characters were well thought out and developed. The story flowed and the pacing was just how I like it. I can’t think of a better book to curl up with as we start to get into the cooler months than this one!

This, like many of the other Christmas books I've read this season, is nothing truly extraordinary but it was a fun and light read. It had all the Christmas 'feels' and swoony kisses under the mistletoe. So, I guess you could say I enjoyed it but I wasn't really satisfied; it was still missing something. It was just another Christmas romance for me. Alice's son really made the book for me. That, and the swoony kisses of course ;). I'd recommend it for some light Holiday reading, but nothing more. It's just a bit of Christmas entertainment. :) That'll be a 3.5 stars from me.

Ok! I'll be totally honest, I started reading this book with the expectation of a cute regency romance. And it is. But it's also so much more!! There's so many different aspects to this story that all come together in the end.
Lady Alice Nightingale is looking for a husband. Someone that can be a good father to her son, without risking her heart in the process. Lord Ezra Brooks must find a wife with a large dowry to avoid ruin. Too bad Ms. Nightingale gets in the way. A perfect mix of enemies-to-lovers with mistaken identities and most of all, love.
I loved Lady Alice's determination to find a good father for her son, a gentleman, different from her father and late husband. The plan she comes up with to find the perfect candidate is absolutely genius! The banter between the main characters were beautiful to read.
I cannot recommend this book enough. I love it when books exceed expectations!

I enjoyed reading Alice and Isaac’s story. This story has a hidden identity trope, which I love! It was played out well, and I enjoyed learning how someone would have gone about changing their looks in this era of the past (hint: they had to go to greaaaat lengths!) it was quite interesting, and several times I thought Alice would mess up the ruse. I liked Alice’s strong character and determination to only seek the best for herself and her son.
Though at times Isaac’s strong dislike of a certain someone annoyed me, since he’d never even met the woman, it did make sense, based on what he had been through. He made a good hero. And, I loved the snow scene! This is a fun Regency romance you don’t want to miss!

This Christmas story was great fun to read. In the grand scheme it played out how I predicted it would, but the joy is in the reading journey. I totally appreciated the Harry Potter reference. I never thought I'd see one in a Regency novel! It was a sweet story of false identity.

This is a sweet book about a little boy’s desperate wish to Father Christmas, the lengths a mother will go to for that child’s wish, and a man’s lesson in forgiveness and love. I really adored it.
Alice is a wonderful character. I admired her tenacity and determination, but also her soft heart and kindness. I loved that she had been able to rise above all life had handed her, becoming gentler and more generous instead of bitter and hard. I loved her from the very beginning. As a side note, I also really liked Mr. Allen. IYKYK.
It took me a minute or two to come around to Isaac. I get that he’d been swindled and caused irreversible difficulty. I would be wary of I were in his shoes. But I did struggle with his blatant prejudice and unkindness toward Alice because of the past actions by her father. I was glad he came around eventually.
I really liked Aunt Margarette. I kind of love meddlesome old ladies who have lots of personalities. They’re so fun!
The snowman scene was absolutely adorable and swoony. I loved it so much! The characters went through some great development and the story was adorable. If you want a great Christmas book to get you into the mood of the season (or just warm your heart anytime), I highly recommend this one.

Overall, I found this to be a sweet Christmas story. I enjoyed the characters and the setting. The mistletoe scene was wonderful.
But...some of the traditions talked about seemed a little too modern for the setting. Father Christmas was treated as more of a modern-day Santa, which didn't seem quite right to me. Also, did people build snowmen in the early 1800s? I thought that this story might have fit a Victorian time frame better.
The letters from Aunt Fudge seemed out of place in the rest of the story. I understand that they connect this book to others in the series, but I feel like we needed a beginning scene to tie the books together instead of random letters interjected halfway through the book.
Also, the thought of someone finding out Alice's secret gave me anxiety. Especially at the end of the book!

Adorable!
This was my first book by Laura Rollins. I was so drawn in by the plot. It reminded me of Martha Keyes’ True of Heart. I loved the idea of Lady Nightingale masquerading as a man in order to get the real scoop on her prospective suitors. Lord Brooks started as an enemy, but became a true friend.
I loved the moments with her son, the mistletoe, and the chemistry between them. So cute!

What a fun, unique Christmas story! I loved the characters, especially Alice's thoughts when she was Mr. Allen. I read this in one sitting and was glad I had the next story ready to go! It's a fantastic start to this series and I can't wait to read all of them.

This was fun to read:} I worried it wouldn't be believable but I think they way this was done that it was. I enjoyed this novella and thought the story was so sweet. I loved how everything worked out in the end. Sweet, proper, well written romance.

3.5 stars. Alice is widowed and determined to marry someone who will treat herself and her young son well. The Christmas setting is crucial to the story because in a careless moment when asked when he might have a new papa, Alice offered that maybe Father Christmas would bring one. Alice undertakes a risky plot to give her the best chance at getting to know what the men in her area are truly like and disguises herself as a fictitious "distant cousin" (Mr. Allen) to enable her to spend time at the local club and befriend and spend time with them in a setting where they're more likely to show their true selves.
Meanwhile, Lord Brooks has accompanied friends to the area to spend the holiday with his aunt and enable one of them to pursue his suit of a young woman who left the city before he could secure her hand. He is in a precarious position financially due to being taken advantage of by his man of business (who received a cut of the profit) and the man who swindled him out of one of his most valuable properties. He is hoping to find someone to marry for their money to enable him to continue to care for his estates and tenants, but his aunt is scheming to help him marry for love instead.
Holiday events bring Alice and Lord Brooks across one another's paths, but also Lord Brooks and Mr. Allen. The latter two become good friends, but previous history prejudices Lord Brooks against any connection with Alice. The need to maintain two distinct looks is challenging for Alice and within the last half of the book, I was concerned that her ploy would be found out! There are some sweet scenes with Alice and her son, and I was happy for how things worked out for them, as well as Lord Brooks.
The book was sprinkled with letters written by the aunt to a friend, which worked as a way to share her perspective of things, but they felt a little out of place and were an awkward start to the story. Overall it was a sweet Christmas read and I'm glad I read it.

She had a loveless first marriage that her controlling father arranged. How can she ensure that her next marriage will be for love? She comes up with a plan to disguise herself as a man and go out as her cousin, Mr. Allen to see what men really talk about when women aren’t around. Who is trying to marry for money? Who is a rake and who likes to gamble? Will she be able to pull this off and find true love?
Lord Ezra Brooks find himself instantly attracted to Lady Nightingale, until he finds that her father is the man who impoverished him. He needs to marry for money in order to stay afloat. He finds himself enjoying the company of Mr. Allen, but how can he get Lady Nightingale out of his mind?
I greatly enjoyed this regency romance and read it quickly. I enjoy the enemies to lovers trope as well as the boy disguise trope. Although I think it would be really hard to pull off, I like the idea of being able to pierce the male world to find out their true thoughts before you settled down. Especially in the regency era where often you didn’t really get to know your spouse at all before marriage. I also loved Lady Alice’s sweet interactions with her son and her servants. I liked that she was a strong and good woman herself that wanted to achieve happiness in her life for both herself and her son.
A Wish for Father Christmas is a clean read, which is my favorite type of romance.
Overall, A Wish for Father Christmas is a great, engaging Christmas regency romance novel.

Laura Rollins never disappoints. No matter what she is writing about, I fall completely in love with the characters. She is swiftly becoming on my favorite authors.
She has a wonderful ability to write strong and admirable women without them being... overwhelming. They are likable and relatable and a bunch of other positive -ables.

I love Christmas books. I love Twelth Night. So combine those and look out! The characters are all good people and I especially love Aunt Margerette. Isaac is such a good guy, especially when you compare him to the other men at Greenbulls.

I'm having a hard time putting my thoughts into words. So, just read it, love it and be excited for the rest of the series! And here are my book notes:

A Wish for Father Christmas by Laura Rollins is a spirited and unique Regency, Christmas romance. I loved the twist of Lady Nightengale dressing like a man to gain a better understanding of the character of her would-be suitors. I admired that not only was she capable and independent, but she was willing to sacrifice to make the best decisions for her and her son.
And her son, Joseph, is adorable especially when combined with his little dog. Joseph often stole the scene, and his longing for a father will give you all sorts of warm fuzzies in your heart.
Isaac is a unique hero. A handsome gentleman, but one not full of pride (although definitely some prejudice!). I loved how his opinions changed throughout the book--on love, marriage, and especially Lady Nightengale.
This story drew me in from the first chapter. I was completely invested in Alice’s mission to find the perfect husband/father for her family. And my only disappointment was reaching the end!
If you enjoy sweet/clean Regency romance, then you’ll enjoy A Wish for Father Christmas.
This is the perfect story to get your heart warm for the Christmas season!

I was moved by the emotion that coursed through the story. I felt like Laura was able to help us feel the hearts of everyone from Alice and Isaac to Joseph and even Ponto.
The hidden identity was particularly well done. I felt like Laura gave us historically accurate details into how Alice not only pulled it off, but made it believable. I was particularly intrigued how she blended Alice with her Mr. Allen persona and the depths that gave to her character and her relationship with Lord Brooks.
The character development was incredibly well done. I was impressed that while she gave both Alice and Isaac time to grow and heal, they did so in a mature way like the adults they are. I loved how their circumstances that created the tension was real and legitimate. I appreciated that there wasn’t a bad guy or a dangerous situation, but there was tension and turning points that kept me reading and interested.
This was the perfect story to start my holiday reading off with and I would recommend it to anyone else in a heartbeat.

Lovely Christmas read with such an interesting premise! Alice being on the hunt to remarry specifically for her son makes her immediately relatable - a mother who wants the best for her precious child. Her idea to dress and act as a man to determine who will do well by them is outside the box and makes for an interesting read! I also like how her disguise allows her to more fully develop a friendship with her romantic interest.
I like that the series ties together via the cute grandmotherly matchmaking aunties writing each other letters! It’s adorable and sweet in the most endearing way. Like, I want us all to have aunties who love us like that!
I love how these multi author series help showcase authors as well. I’ve read some of the other authors in this series before, but this was my first experience with Laura Rollins. I’m excited to read more of her work!

Another fantastic Christmas book has released. If you are looking for a great historical, Christmas romance with a single mum trope and the hidden identity trope, then look no further. You have found what you are looking for.
I loved this book. It was relatively drama free, a perfect escape into fiction. Lady Nightingale and Lord Brooks are great characters that have depth and the chemistry between them made me smile.
Another character I loved was Joseph. It was great seeing the close relationship between Alice and Joseph,especially since that wasn’t the norm at the time.
So if you are looking for a Christmas romance to get you in the Christmas mood, start here with A Wish For Father Christmas. This is my first book by Laura Rollins, but I do know I’ll be reading more from her soon.

The couple was quite cute, but it took almost half a book for them to have a scene alone (while building the snow man) while the scenes of them while she was dressed like a man were more told through their thoughts then on actual pages so I ended up not feeling this connection of friendship between them because I didn't witness it.
I enjoyed the last part, with her selling him back what her father had tricked off him. And how they gave the news to her son, Joseph.

Oh I loved this story!! I was a little hesitant to see how she was going to pull off being in the man roll… might of been a little too awkward or just weird, but it turned out to be oh so good! I loved Alice and her kindness and cleverness and her sweet servants… and Isaac.. this is such a feel good story that is quick but full of depth and great characters!
Would def put this on my shelf!
