Hidden Empire #3

Four Tricks

Rate this book
I took some hard hits, but now it’s time to strike back.

Marco Tesoro wanted a fight, and a fight is what he’s gonna get. The guy just doesn’t know when to stop. First he sent hitmen after me. Now he blew up my mother f-ing house. No one gets to pull that kind of shit and live—a fact he’ll be finding out soon enough.

In the aftermath of his attacks, we’re struggling to recover, dealing with the FBI, and adjusting to having Cameron back in my life. But there’s no better time to remind the world who Two Tricks really is. At the top of my hit list are the Mad Dogs, a rival MC crew. They’re the movers and dealers for Marco’s drugs business. Let’s see how he feels when I cut off his arms and then realizes I’m just barely getting started.

My men are behind me one-hundred percent, even as they work through their own issues—including the new man no one saw coming. None of that will stop them from riding into war with me though, because it will take all of us to tople this crime lord’s empire, one piece at a time.

Book 3 of the Hidden Empire series

This is an adult MC romance where the leading lady doesn't have to choose who she loves or how many. Book contains 18+ content—swearing, sexual situations, unaliving, possessive alpha-hole men, and pint-sized woman who's stabby.

Hell yes!
I’m just loving these characters more and more.
The badass chaos they produce is cool as all hell.
And the relationships are really getting tight.
The sex is fantastically filthy and kept interesting with new locations and little hints of different kinks thrown in every once in a while.
I’m loving this series.
I’m gonna go ahead and skip Harper’s book for now and continue on with Dax’s story, but I might end up circling around because it sounds intriguing.
Just not enough to distract me from these characters right now.

BASIC FACTS:
Pages: 324
My rating: 3
Genre: rh, Gang/Mafia
Themes: Gang, Mafia, Revenge, Motorcycle Club
Protagonist Ages: they all finished college so older than 21
Pacing: The pacing of the story was okay
Plot Rating: 3

The Third book was much better than the second, still I skipped some of the smutty scenes, as they were to much. But the story was in the main focus again. The Relationship still needs lots of development, Cam doesn’t fit into the group like Wes did. It was a quick and okay read.

The Characters: Names and descriptions of the persons

Summery: detailed, lot’s of spoiler

Oh Elizabeth Knight, you are one brilliant mastermind!

Four Tricks was utterly fantastic! So much action, so much mystery, so much lust and love…just so much epicness! Once again Dax proves why she is Two Tricks and one hell of a badass! Dax’s level of crazy has no bounds, but man do I love her brand of crazy. She is out for revenge and no one best get in her way.

This book shows Dax and her men’s bonds grow and flourish even more and I freaking love it! First off…talk about SEXY times! Hot damn, no one writes sexy times quite like Elizabeth Knight 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. Even more so, we get to see some really beautiful vulnerable and loving moments between Dax and her men…talk about swoon-worthy! 😍

The action and suspense in this book was outstanding! I felt like an adrenaline junkie reading this book! Heart racing, sitting at the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next, excited for the action. Dax and her men are like a well oiled machine, they read each other so well and damn watching them work is a masterpiece!

I absolutely LOVED this book! I can’t wait to see where the next book take us!

DNF @ 61%. Dax was such a strong character in previous books but I suddenly find her grating in this one. Her relationship with all the guys feels so uneven, and it's made worse by her making it a competition each day to get her praise, attention, or to just be with her. I despise that so much, especially when coupled with the fact that she's not that kind to them to begin with. Cam is just annoying, and there was only one (1) moment where he made her cry with a hard memory where it even felt like there was a connection between them. Wes is amazing. Picasso is still struggling with himself. And the rest just rotate through each scene and aren't developed enough in their relationships with her to stand out in memorable ways. I'm so interested in the plot between the Empire, the MCs, and the Cartel, but suffering through Dax's interactions with the guys she supposedly cares for is too much. And this is all before the many glaring spelling and grammar errors throughout the entire book. I don't usually pay attention to that when reading, but it was bad enough to pull me out of the story a few times each chapter.

I mean, I like the story but the whole thing is riddled with basic editing mistakes and typos. It's a mess and those basic errors really put a girl off.
Would be so much more enjoyable if I didn't have to reread parts of it to make it make sense!

I have been really anticipated for this book and i was not let down. Where to start this books has been a ride, drama, humor, action, craziness, killing and more spice, yaass !
Dax is probably one of my fave heroines she is taking no crap kinda girl. She is a badass boss bitch, smart as fuck cuz she is planing ahead and calculating all her actions and is pulling the strings which i love. She holds the power and is not throwing herself into danger without a plan or 3.
The guys are great, my faves are Weston since i like him and his smart as brain plus how good he works together with Dax and his loyalty and Void also cuz i can´t resist the most crazy hot psycho one duh. But the others are not that far behind, i do still needs to know Cameron better since he has not really shown me that much how himself on a deeper level so i can´t tell yet what i think bout him. Buut Loba is getting to me, Cognac is a ladies man but i love when he is getting softer with Dax calling her loba. They all are changing in this relationship for the better.
Thankfully there is not a cliffhanger at the end, hallelujah!! But i can´t wait to read the next book in this series!

This book (and series) has so many elements that should make me over the top love it, and I just don’t. I love RH with motorcycle clubs, and an sassy bada$$ female lead. I really do love Dax. She’s the best part of this series. Her character is very well written and developed. The humor and witty talk is also fantastic and has made me guffaw and laugh out loud.

I think a big problem for me is that the writing is a little inconsistent and the books need a better editor, as I’m noticing quite a few grammar mistakes. Some parts of the book are too repetitive and drawn out. I ended up skimming lots of parts about plans and then if I read one more time a character say “you’re lucky you’re cute or you’d be dead” I’d scream. Personally I’m finding it hard to keep track of and connect equally with all of the male leads. I don’t even feel that deep of a connection between Dax and some of the guys, and I hate when an RH feels really uneven. A 7 guy RH is just a lot to do really, really well. Dax still hasn’t even slept with one of the guys and it’s the third book. It’s also starting to feel totally unrealistic that every guy wants Dax instantly, falls in love with her in about two weeks, goes around calling her their soul mate, yada yada yada. Having said all of that I am enjoying it enough to want to keep reading, and I am very into reading about Harper’s story.

Dax was already on the hunt for the Mad Dog crew and the Cartel but after watching her home be blown up right before her eyes she was out for blood. Recovering from a gun shot wound and trying to manage her love life and crime syndicate she already has a lot on her plate but, much like dessert, there is always room for revenge. Her plan is to take out the Mad Dog Crew which will hopefully hobble the Cartel so she can finish them off. With the help of an old boyfriend who is now an FBI agent she has just enough room to get away with whatever she needs to do to make it happen. But how will she navigate her harem when she considers adding another to their already astounding numbers? Will Dax survive her plots for revenge and her foray into her group of lovers?

I was middle of the road with the first two books in this series and while they weren't terrible they weren't something that held my attention all that well either. This last one I felt like I was slogging through trying to finish it just so I could move on. The fact that I took more and more time away from reading to avoid going back to the book, I knew I needed to just tap out of the series. There was something about Dax and her men that just didn't resonate with me. It felt like it was really forced and the men were not the alpha males that they should have represented. They were led around by their belt buckle by their one woman wrecking ball of a girlfriend. She decided what was going to happen and they just had to fall in line and pray she didn't get mad at them for whenever her mood started to turn.

I am sure that it would have been glorious to watch Dax take down her enemies and find happiness with her men but I just couldn't keep going when I have so many other books I need to get to that I have already put off to try to complete the Hidden Empire Dax Trilogy. Maybe I will revisit the book and series at a later time, but for now I need to let this book go and try to find something that will hold my attention a lot more.

Elizabeth has another hit on her hands with Four Tricks. The third book in the Hidden Empire series was mind-blowingly fantastic with an exciting storyline and one of the strongest female leads I've ever read.

Dax is a badass, a strong female lead who doesn't bend to conformity, she's handling her business like the boss she is without apologizing for who she is. I knew this from the previous books but it's even more apparent in Four Tricks. Not only is Dax piecing together her enemy's moves, while making plans and calling the shots. Not to mention Dax gets really bloody in this one, the violence she inflicts is off the charts. Her enemies will learn they don't come for what's her's be it the organization she has built from the ground up or the people she has come to care about.

All seven of Dax's guys have gotten under her skin. They are caring for her, following her lead, letting her be herself for the most part and it's tearing down those emotional walls Dax has built. Don't get me wrong, Dax still has trouble expressing emotion but she's working on herself which strengthens the bonds she has with each of the guys. Cam the ex who is reestablishing himself with Dax, trying to find his place in the group, and there's Wes, the best friend who is always there is a strong favorite of mine. Then there are the guys of the Phantom Saints, I like each of them for many different reasons and they have most definitely proven themselves but it's Void out of all of them that's stolen my heart. The big guy understands Dax in a way no one else does and he's been calling Dax his soulmate since the beginning, what's not to love.

Things with Dax is all action all the time with bits of crazy strategic planning. Dax has a lot on her plate trying to figure out who the moles are, dealing with the aftermath of revealing that she's Two Tricks, dealing with the Mad Dogs MC and their underhanded schemes, and finally looking out for moves the De Leon cartel are making against her organization. To say things were exciting is an understatement.

The Hidden Empire is expanding. While I can't wait to see where Dax's story goes next, I am excited that Dax's best friend book. Harper's, story is up next in the series. Bubbly Harper with three crazy assassins on a crazy Russian adventure, I can't wait for the laughs.

I love this RH. Dax is wonderfully badass and I love being on this journey of opening up and being vulnerable with her men. Every thing about this series is exhilarating. Never a moment of boredom while reading this. I’m a sucker for a badass, sexually confident FMC. Dax perfectly encompasses what I love to read about.
I also love that Elizabeth made all of Dax’s men so distinct. With 7 men it can sometimes be confusing but they are all delightfully different and it’s easy to fall in love with them all.
I personally wanted more male POVs, I think seeing Dax from their eyes is something really special to read about but I felt like we didn’t get enough of it in this book.
I’m hoping we also get some more relationship growth between Picasso and Dax. I know he’s been the hold out but I thought because of how they grew in book 2, we would get more of them in this book but we unfortunately did not.
Picasso deserves more spot light and I can’t wait for that to happen.
This book made a lot of strides as far as plot goes, so I think the relationships were not a the foreground of the book. With that being said, the smut was fantastic. Dax always has time for her men 😉
My favorite is Void and Dax in the middle of a game called Hide & Kill. Ugh Void, I love him.
But I must say Weston is still my favorite, I’m a sucker for best friend to lovers and his secret pinning for her.
Cam got a lot of focus this book, which makes sense because we’re still unsure of his motives but I think he proved exactly how much he loves Dax and always has.
Eagle kind of faded into the back ground but he’s been a prominent focus of the first two books so I didn’t feel lacking for their relationship.
Cognac is still as suave as ever, I want deeper from him and I felt like we saw a bit of that but I’m greedy and I want more.
Sprocket got more love in this book, and we got more of his story, which I loved. He seems to be the beacon of calm for everyone and it was nice reading about how he got to where he is. Grew up more like Dax than we realized and I loved when he shared memories with her. Again, I’m greedy and I want more of him.
I’m not sure if the next one is the last one, but honestly I hope not, I could continue to read about them forever.

Overall Rating: 5/5⭐️

Solid 3.5 Stars

This series is addicting to read. My gripes are, too many men and Dax literally doesn't train. She super unbelievably strong and an amazing killer/marksman but literally never has it mentioned her actually training or even working out. It hit me when I was reading and then it made me mad. I want a little bit of reality here.

7 is too much for a reverse harem. I having a hard time keeping all the guys straight. Also my man Wes wasn't in this book nearly enough. Although he did make Dax come so hard she squired which was pretty dang hot.

I don't fully understand all the inner workings of the MC's and the gangs and the cartels. I find myself being confused most of time with all the bad guys and how they were connected and where they were located. Then their plan to weed out the mole confused the shit out of me. I didn't understand the train bit or how it would help. Which sucked because that was basically the main plot point.

Eagle: Doesn't make sense to me. I expected there to be more of a power struggle between Dax and him. But he kinda just rolled over and played dead, which I don't appreciate.

Picasso: Still hasn't done anything physical with Dax beyond kissing. I'm confused as to why she's even attracted to him. They don't have a ton of chemistry and they always seem to be nit picking each other.

Sprocket: He's gotten lost in the background for me. I barely remember he exists or what his backstory is. I think he was the one who went through the foster care system... I don't know he's sort of just another number.

Cognac: He's the comic relief but doesn't tend to be that funny. lol. He the golden retriever who is easy to please and fun to have around but doesn't' really stand out.

Void: Still has my heart. I love how he's just dark but such a softie for Dax. Honestly it could've been a book about just the two of them and I would've been happy. I love how they had a competition to see who could kill the most people, then fucked mid battle. Wild.

Wes: Still love him, but again, he's so in the background. His relationship with Dax is rock solid so he is just never around. It makes me sad.

Cam: FBI agent man is still so bothersome and simping so hard for Dax it's gross. He was such an unnecessary addition.

I'm still enjoying the books and I'm anxious to see how it all plays out.

I don't think I will ever get tired of the female characters that Elizabeth Knight creates. Dax is probably one of my favorites out of all of them and I love her take no prisoners way of looking and acting upon things, especially when it comes to those she cares about. You see that it's a common theme throughout the series, first starting with her brother, continuing to Harper, and now to her men that she has adjusted to having in her life now that she is willing to take a chance on love. Her guys have brought out new characteristics in her, or maybe just the ones she had to block out as she had to fight the hard battles to build and control the Hidden Empire. The fact that although she is strong-willed and fierce, she is still able to eventually open up with those that she keeps close. In her line of work she has to be constantly watching her back because people can switch sides easily; that's pretty clear with the moles they are on the search for. But with her men she is able to feel safe and show any amount of vulnerability without it being used against her. There's no judgement from them and there never will be. I'm sure her enemies will see her relationships with her guys as a weakness and try to take advantage of that, however, her ability to rely on them makes her even more lethal than if she were to be fighting this war alone. If you harm what is hers--and she has definitely claimed these guys as hers--you won't live to tell the tale.

I think the funniest thing about this book was that they made so many precise and well thought out plans, but instead Dax did some of her best work when she had to work on the fly. She is very observant and quick on her feet to work with her surroundings to get the best results. I had a lot of fun seeing what she would come up with, especially when she made last minute decisions that she knew the guys wouldn't like. They might not be the safest options, but they sure have some amazing outcomes when things work out to her benefit. I can't wait to see what she has up her sleeve next as she and her group take the next step in taking down Marco piece by piece.

I'm not sure what I was expecting from this installation of the Hidden Empire series but I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Definitely don't read this one without having read the first two books in the series. This one is the continuation of the story centered around Dax, a no-holds very little shit's given woman who happens to lead her own empire(By this book, you should know this).

Dax is without a doubt one of my favorite of all time female characters. There's not pretentious or over the top about her she's a very take her as she comes person and I love that about her. When she's cornered, she works her way out of it. When she's feeling overwhelmed she finds comfort in those around her to get her grounded. This book had her growing and expanding to an even more engaging character. She found a real rhythm with the men around her and was able to really glow.

Now with all of that saying, there's no way we can ignore the men in her life. They did not disappoint in the least bit. Not every male character was given the opportunity to shine in the bedroom with Dax but they all had their own ways to shine elsewhere. They all took their relationships from somewhat purely physical to loving and protective in ways that I can really get behind. They held her accountable for the things that she did that they weren't 100% fans for but did it in a way that showed how deeply their feelings really resided.

Would definitely recommend starting this series, if you haven't you are missing out on growly over protective men with hearts of gold. You'll miss out on a bad ass woman who can hold her own against her harem of men. But don't get it twisted they own her just as much as she owns them.

Do read this. Do not second guess yourself, you'll be upset that you missed out on it.

It’s kicks off straight into the aftermath of Dax’s house explosion.
I found the chat about Dax’s past and the changes she made to become Two Tricks really interesting and insightful.
Those Phantom Saint MC mens are hot and crazy AF and I enjoyed the interaction between them and Cam as he tries to find his place within the group. The steamy scenes are numerous, very detailed and hot AF.
There are so many one liners in the book that are totally brilliant, I especially love the quote ‘Loba, it’s only natural that wolves hunt in packs and we are your pack’
Awesome fight scenes, the blood, death and gore are absolutely fantastic. I couldn’t put the book down until the very last word, I was honest sitting on the edge of my chair in suspense for the majority of it.
Loved the John MacClane references, had me laughing out loud and Dax’s suggested name calling insults were hilarious.
Overall it’s a fantastic addition to this series, well written with such detail with perfect twists and fantastic action - I completely loved it and can’t wait for the next book to be released in October.

Loved the storyline but needs major editing

First off, I loved the storyline in this third book to the series. There's plenty of action, steamy scenes, electrifying chemistry, and hilarious dialogue with the characters. To boot, who doesn't love a strong alpha female that isn't irritating and self centered.

My major issue with this book not receiving a 5 star rating is the editing. When you reach about the 50%-60% mark you will notice the constant issues with spelling, punctuations, wrong word being used, incomplete sentences with missing words, grammar, and more. It seemed as if the author had someone different edit the last half of the book, compared to the first half. Don't get me wrong, I can understand when an editor or reviewer goes through the draft that not every little typo/mistake will be found. It happens because nothing is perfect, but these issues were constant and repetitive.

I do enjoy this series and hope the next book will have improved from this one as far as editing goes. Here's to hoping anyways.

what happened? DNF

I didn’t finish. This dragged on - and when in the first 8 chapters things were repeated several times I was done.

I hate being treated like I’m stupid. There is no finesse in slab text “ this cartel is after me. “ “I’m going to bring them down” “I had to give up all the kindness in my soul” blah eye roll.

There also isn’t much description of feelings - where was the connection to her SEVEN boyfriends? No heart beating faster, no subtle touches and it’s book three and she’s only been with 3:7 of her bfs.

It’s so far left now that it can’t be saved.
I was more interested in Harper who makes a one page appearance.

In 2 1/4 books I’ve read Dax hasn’t grown, changed or softened. The characters have little development ect.

I’m not expecting a sjm level mind being emotional rollercoaster from a romance but -

This is written in such a basic way that it’s like a children’s book.

I’m going to ask for a refund for the next one that I pre purchased :(

Really upset, this was really promising.

This one did it for me. Catapulted it from a high 4 stars into 5.

Such a fast paced series.
There’s also not too much lovey dovey talking scenes. The men worship her.
She is sooo onto it. An actual smart heroine, coming out on top time after time. Loved how she has backup plans.
She is wild. Reckless. Savage.
Most of all, I like that she does what she says she will. She backs up what she says with action.
I like that she is the baddest mofo out there. So often an author will say, “this person is a baddie”, but you never really see that side come out. Not today junior!
The scene with the keys near the end…oosh, I wasn’t expecting that, although I’m happy it was there!
I LOVED the closing battle. The whole thing. Basically everything in the last quarter of the book had me hooked.

I’m up to Harpers story, and I’m not sure if I’m ready to take a break from Dax, but I’m scared I’ll miss out something important if I do skip it, so I guess I’ll have to give it a go.

Thank goodness the last book is out in a month and a half. That’s a timeline I can live with!

These books just keep getting crazier! It took a little bit but Dax recovered and worked out her issues with Picasso and Eagle. Dani her nurse is absolutely hilarious, maybe she’ll end up with Brian? The Mad Dogs and the cartels led Dax and her people into a trap. Eagle got shot, Dax got kidnapped and others were killed or injured in the bombings. When she wakes up she kills the Mad Dog president and escapes. She finds girls they planned on selling and saves them, then diffuses a bomb in the basement. Her men and the FBI show up and get the rest of the Mad Dogs so that they are all wiped out. Some of them headed toward the Phantom Saints compound. The battle there ended not long after Dax jumped out of a helicopter onto a moving truck with a machine gun. It was revealed that Pinky the bartender was a mole because he didn’t like her. The mole for the cartel was Eagle and Picasso nephew Demetri because his sister had been kidnapped and ransomed. Now they are going after the De Leon cartel.

First things first; I like the cover of this book!
Four tricks is the third book in the ‘’hidden empire’’ series.
This story is short, fast paced and an enjoyable read. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters likeable and the storyline enjoyable. This book is the third instalment of Dax’s story. The danger surrounding Dax and her men continues. When Dax and her men come up with a plan, will it work out smoothly?
The chemistry between Dax, Void, Eagle, Picasso, Cognac, Wes, Cam and Sproggett is clear to see and I loved them all together. I liked the bond Dax had with all of them. I love all of the men but Void is my favourite.
I liked the ending, that cliffhanger! I need the next book now!
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is an enjoyable read. I cannot wait for more books from this series.

Absolutely amazing! Elizabeth Knight does it again, writing an epic story with non stop action, an abundance of romance and a storyline that keeps you on the edge of the seat.

I absolutely adore Dax and the guys, not to mention Harper. One of my absolutely favourite series. So amazing that I put off reading it just to draw out the experience.

We’re back with Dax as she faces off against more and more enemies making for an exciting explosive plot. With relationships growing stronger and stronger, addition of a new relationship and lots and lots of steam. With relationships developing and becoming stronger and stronger I can’t wait to read more!

I can’t wait to read more and learn what happens next in this amazing series. If you haven’t started reading this series get started asap you won’t be disappointed.

Ms. Knight did it again!

This is one action sequence after another, I was on the edge of my seat the entire ride.

Dax really grew and flourished into her role as queen of both the hidden empire and the phantom saints. She also started to open up to her men, and feelings fly in all the best ways.

I am PSYCHED we get a fifth book with this bunch of loons. I went into this expecting it to be the last of the series and dreading how quickly things would have to wrap since there was still so much to unpack with the mad dogs and de leon cartel. I will never, ever complain about another book added to a great series; there is nothing worse than a rushed wrap-up.

Then to find out Harper is going to get her own book for her adventures with the triplets during the last two books and I cannot wait! I love Harper and have missed her dearly.

Holy!!! I just don't know how she does it but this author is seriously one of my favorites of all time.

Every time I feel like I know where is series is going and every time this author continues to surprise and amaze me in her writing. Dax always continues to surprise me as well and her men are just beyond swoon worthy still. Dax seriously has more secrets than all of her men combined it seems like and I love getting those little glimpses of her throughout the story. Honestly, this series just becomes more and more with every book and I'm seriously curious to see how it's gonna end. Also, this book piqued my interest in Harper's story so I'm looking forward to her story as well!

I really do need book four like now already though!!!! Usually I have a tough time continuing a series that isn't fully out yet but this one I tend to stalk the release date of the next book lol.

Four Tricks is book #3 in the Hidden Empire series.

Four Tricks is gonna blow your mind!! It's non stop action, Dax being her badass self, some mystery and the spice is PERFECT!!

Dax is going to get her revenge and the bloodier it is, the better!! She wont stop until she takes down her enemies. And her guys have her back 100%.

We also get to see Dax and her mens relationships grow stronger. Seeing the softer, vulnerable side to some of these characters was amazing and I adore them all so much! They each are perfect for Dax and I love them all together.

The spice!!!! I have no words!! Elizabeth Knight writes some of the best spicy scenes I have ever read!!!

Four Tricks is an epic, wild ride!! It will have you on the edge of your seat, dying to know whats gonna happen next! I can't wait for more!!

PS- can i claim Void? 😂 that man is scrumptious!!

Oh god…..the action, the drama, the mystery and suspense - I just can’t help but attempt to speed read through because I HAVE to know what’s happening!! Tends to lead to rereading very quickly after but that’s never a bad thing!

This instalment is full of more of that epic story line and never ending action that we’ve all come to expect from Ms Knight - and she does NOT disappoint!

The steamy scenes in the book are super hottt so bring your hand fans guys and dolls.lol

Another book full of humour and amazing characters that you just can’t help but feel like you know, regardless of whether they exist for real 😆

Another belter of a read worth more than 5 stars and more anticipation for the next book in the series!!

In all honesty I'd give this book a solid 3.5 stars.

I rounded it up purely because I love the characters, the story and the world Elizabeth Knight has created and I will ABSOLUTELY be reading Harper's Renegades and More Tricks when they drop!

The relationship building in this installment was unreal! Dax is learning to be vulnerable again; something she hasn't been since losing her twin. I've said it before and I'll say it again, there is strength in it. Learning to open up and love again after you've lost someone is HARD. No ifs, buts or maybes. Throw in the spice and hot damn we have a winner. That kink was 🔥🔥🔥.

This was one of the biggest takeaways from this book (for me) but don't be fooled into thinking it wasn't jam-packed with everything else. The action is film worthy!
