Dr. Adele Kramer plumbs the universe to uncover hidden mysteries in an attempt to discover the purpose of Nyarlathotep's plan. She encounters an entity more powerful than the Black Pharaoh and learns the depths of Nyarlathotep's desperate gambit.

The final individual to accompany them to the ultimate encounter is discovered. Along with Malcolm Mayweather, they confront an evil spirit who has waited centuries for their release, uncover a lost artwork from the mad painter Richard Upton Pickman, encounter a powerful witch, and defeat the physical manifestation of an Outer God. But the real challenge comes as Adele, free from her coma, leads the others to the depths of the South Pacific, to the fabled city R'lyeh, to confront Cthulhu himself in a race to save all existence.

The stunning conclusion to the popular trilogy The Other, a modern tale filled with action and adventure in H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos.

This book contains the following stories.

The House at the Edge of Time and Space Dr. Adele Kramer grows in power and explores the universe. A mysterious force compels her to travel across the universe, to the very edge of time and space, to house she knows intimately, to learn secrets she needs to succeed at Nyarlathotep's mad scheme.

The Shade of Pierre Girault Malcolm Mayweather gets a new partner, Charlene Hines, sprung from prison by Harjit Singh at Dr. Kramer's urging. They speak to a man in Vancouver, awakened from a long coma, and learn of a mad sorcerer who imprisoned his spirit in eighteenth-century Quebec City. Travelling to Quebec, they learn first hand why you avoid powerful sorcerers.

The Misplaced Masterpiece of Richard Upton Pickman Written from the view of the antagonist, an art gallery owner discovers a lost painting, a work by the mad painter Richard Upton Pickman. Driven to madness by the piece, he grows increasingly paranoid that the people inquiring about his recent purchases are more than they seem.

The Curse of the Windsor Witch A recent excavation at a churchyard releases the malevolent spirit of an ancient witch on an unsuspecting city. Strange murders follow as the investigators work to discover a link between the victims and strive to bring the murder to justice.

The Bride of the Yellow King Charlene goes rogue and races to Prince Edward Island alone to take down a family of cultists. But someone has designs on her, and a ceremony put on hold for twelve years comes to frightening reality.

In the Depths of R'lyeh Adele returns from her captivity in space and reveals the final encounter. They must travel to the home of Cthulhu, the sunken city of R'lyeh, and prevent the Great Old One from ending existence.

What a payoff!! I never expected to pick this series up on a whim, only to wait with bated breath for the next book to drop.

This series is fantastic. It does lag out a bit in book two, but it's nothing unforgivable. Definitely worth finishing to get here.

There is one joke near the end that I absolutely hated. It seems like it's there to make everything relevant and tied to our reality, but it was a real eye roll. (The bone from an earlier book about keeping the president in the dark because he'd tweet about it did the same thing, but it was still vague enough to mostly timeless, and it was punchy.)

But let me circle back. It's over bad joke. It's not even in bad taste or anything. It just didn't work for me. And I've told a bad joke before, and wouldn't want to be judged for it. It's fine, Troy. One misstep in an otherwise flawless trilogy is nothing. Lovecraft himself did far worse.

If you're a fan of Lovecraftian horror at all, this series is a must-read!

Although this book has its flaws (the final story in particular, where attacking cultists are handwaved away as being defeated, and the part where a main character sits down to what amounts to tea and biccies with two Outer Gods, didn’t really sit well with me), it’s overall a pretty good read, and closes out the story cycle nicely, even if there’s not many of the cast left to appreciate it!

Much like the books that came before it, The Other.. Book Three continues to expand on an already interesting bit of worldbuilding. We get possibly the most satisfying, and properly Cthulhu-esque ending that a book of this genre could hope to offer. If the first two Books served to pique your interest then the third installment will most definitely be to your liking. Filled with callbacks and packed with new and interesting takes on the mythos this volume serves as an excellent book end to the Series.. hopefully only for now? I took my sweet time reading the last few pages if only because I did not want the adventure to end, which is the highest possible praise that a Reader can offer an Author? Regardless, I recommend this book without hesitation to anyone who may be interested in the Cthulhu Mythos.

The author has certainly done his Lovecraftian research and the book is littered with 'easter eggs' for the Mythos fan. It's an enjoyable romp through the Lovecraft universe but the ending is very bleak and the appearance of a seemingly omnipotent character rather undercuts what has happened before.

A fun read

I’ve been a Lovecraft fan for more than 50 years and I’ve just finished the third “The Other” book and I have to say I really enjoy all three of them. They have a fun approach and a great feel to them and I’m looking forward to reading the second series.

Really enjoyed the final book in the series.

Hate to see it end. Who knows, maybe the author will add to the series eventually.

Enjoyable

Reads like a fun evening playing a tabletop
RPG like Call of Cthulhu, Trail of Cthulhu, or Fall of Delta Green.

The hilarious eccentricity of Nyarlathotep at the end of this book was just icing on the cake in this great trilogy.
