Willow's Pack #2

Vengeful Soul

Rate this book
After everything that’s happened over the last couple of months, all I want to do is settle in and get to know Rowan, Parker, Ren, Zack, and Kingston better, but that can’t happen while Marley’s still free. When one obstacle after another hits us, and we struggle to find time to connect, the fragile trust between us will be put to the test. That alongside my new powers and having more of my past exposed, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to keep my demons in their box. The race against what Marley is planning has tensions high and days full. It’s like I’ve been swept up in a storm that I can’t take cover from. Throw in trying to form a relationship with my recently discovered family, and I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep my head above water.

Vengeful Soul is book two and the final book of the Willow’s pack duet, which will feature light M/M and MMF themes. This is a why choose romance, which means the MFC will not have to choose between her love interests. Though there are some bumps in the road, this does end in a HFN (Happy for now ending). This duet is just one series of many that will take place in the same world as others, with characters crossing over. This book touches on sensitive subject matter that differs a little from book one, so please be sure to read the extensive trigger warning inside.

A partial Trigger warning; (More extensive one in the book) mentions of abuse, torture, PTSD, self-harm, gore, struggles with depression & anxiety.

This one wraps up Mia/Willow's story and it kind of felt like the author had enough ideas to expand this story into 3-4 books but decided to just kind of smoosh them into 2 books. This left me as the reader feeling a little unfulfilled. The overall story line was good but I really felt like the plot needed more expanding.

🔹 The final battle with Marley was almost too easy and abrupt.
🔹 We get all this information about how apparently powerful the FMC is yet none of that is ever put to an actual use. (🔹She magically bonds with ancient weapons much to the shock of those around her, 🔹she is able to control some kind of shadow magic which is never addressed again or explained wtf it even is after her initial training with Ezra, 🔹she's a larger than normal demonic kitsune shifter but we only get to see her shifted form 2 times in the entire series, 🔹she's able to see through an elder paranormal man's glamour with that being explained at the end of the book like an afterthought, 🔹she's some kind of mimic when it comes to being taught fighting strategy, 🔹she's able to die then resurrect, oh and before she comes back to life she can see and have a discussion with a reaper ...) It just seems like an extremely overpowered shifter who then simply stabs the big bad and that's that.
🔹 I never really felt connected to the guys. We get brief descriptions of how they look in book 1 then it's never addressed again, causing them to blend in my mind. I remember Parker and Rowan in particular because they are omega and the alpha, but the remaining 3: Zack, Ren, and King could probably have been condensed to one character.
🔹 The MM between Parker and Rowan felt forced? Is that because MM is gaining popularity amongst RH readers and the author felt the need to toss it in? It did not improve nor retract from the story.. it was just kinda floating there.
🔹 I'm sad that after the FMC remembers how close she was with her brother as a child we don't even get so much as a conversation or hug or greeting or ANYTHING when he returns to her life.
🔹 While this is only an HFN and I get the author's reasoning in her note at the end of the book, I was left feeling a little robbed of closure.
🔹 The author's note also thanked several levels of readers who helped prior to book release and I was honestly surprised this author had a beta team or ARC readers at all. None of them thought to point out the absolute plethora of typos and misused words? (She turns the shower to 'scolding' rather than 'scalding'... the one billion times 'supernatural's' is used when it should be 'supernaturals' with no apostrophe... or just the use of apostrophes in general for a plural word) While it's not a huge deal it absolutely did make me trip over the words a bit and upset the story flow.

Overall the duet was ok. Would recommend for KU readers but I would not spend money on this duet without KU

I reviced this book as an arc

I really loved this book it was really Well written and even though there were sometimes were i was missing something.. Anne hall came Through in the end and delivered a really Well written story… i love the book.. I’m looking forward to following her in the future and see what more amazing Series or standalones she Will come up with… I’m exicted to see what Anne comes up with in the future.. i will for sure be following

Spoilers
I needed more grovelling she’s too forgiving towards the guys And her family (with her family you just hear that she’s mad at them and then it’s done and you don’t hear anymore about it) i kinda needed to see the guys begging on their after they broke her trust especially Rowan who have broken her trust twice

I LOVE VIXEN…. I love the Way she protects willow and is there for her No matter what .. love love VIXEN and personality and i love that she sets the guys on straight, about how to treat willow!!!

i’m a little diaspointed in that fact you don’t see the relationship grow between willow/mia and her family especially her brother - i was really hoping on some sweet brother/sister moments between the two of them..

I really want ask if theres coming about ezra and his group and their story about delilah?? BECAUSE I REALLY NEED THEIR STORY!!

I will miss them all

Picking up right where we left off in book 1, we finally get some answers to what actually happened 15 years ago and why.

I liked the slow build up of the relationship and of the trust between Mia and her family though I would have liked for her to actually interact with her brother. I feel like he was talked about a lot but pretty non existent in practice. So I was a bit disappointed for that.

The guys are still so good and funny and supportive. They really help Mia grow. And I’m so glad she’s finding her voice. Watching her gaining confidence was a real treat.

The reader is me would have love an HEA but as a person I’m glad that the author didn’t try to sell me a magical recovery after all the trauma those characters experienced. It wouldn’t have made sense so I’ll deal with it.

There were a couple inconsistencies with book 1 and so parts would gain to be edited but it didn’t distract me too much.

I really liked those characters and I hope the author will revisit their world. I would enjoy Ezra’s story especially !

So Happy!

I am so happy for Willow and her guys. I loved this ending with her new confidence and freedom.

I wish I would’ve loved to have had an extended epilogue to see further into their futures but overall, despite minor grammatical errors, this was a really great book and ending.

Unfortunately, this was a DNF for me around halfway. There was so much happening and so many POVs that the story became difficult to follow. We had way too many balls (hehe) in the air and not enough time in each scene to understand what was going on. Every chapter was a different character’s POV (including the villain and Mia’s animal spirit)

Between the relationship drama, the impending heat and sexual awakening, the villain, the family reunion, deciding whether to take on the role of heir, magic and fight training, super special weapon bonding, super special legendary immortal shifter spirits, all on TOP of Mia’s extreme PTSD and extreme naivety about well… EVERYTHING, it was like literary whiplash.

Instead of taking things slowly and breaking up what is probably enough content for a 5 book series, the author smushed everything into a duet to all happen concurrently. This means we just get a teaspoon of each conflict rather than a full cup. Sadly, this wasn’t enough to keep me engaged or invested in the story. I would have like to see the author pick one main focal point and then maybe one or two side conflicts to focus on and save the others for future books rather than try to fit in and resolve everything in one.

DNF at 61%

I lost interest in this one. The plot was all over the place and the characters were lacking depth. I was missing the emotion and Mia's character was inconsistent.

I loved the first one, loved the second as well. The lost heir isn't my cup of tea, but this one made it's way in my heart.

I loved this book! The only complaint is i wish we would have seen more of Parker’s and Rowan’s relationship, and i hope she comes out with more of Willows story. I loved how protective the guys are of Willow and watching her overcome her PTSD.

This was a little hard for me to push through ... But I made it to the end! (High fiving myself)
The problem with writing a horrifically damaged character becomes a damned if you do damned if you don't conundrum for both the author and readers. For example, if there are no lingering effects you start to question whether it's realistic enough .... However, as in this books case, the effects were so drawn out, I was bored and just wanted her to get over it already. (Sorry, not sorry). This book was so focused on Willow/Mia's mental health, the story got lost in the background. The characters also fell really flat for me. Too much telling and not enough showing. I mean at one point she says that Ezra might be her best friend when they had had little to no interactions. I was like "well ... Ok ... Maybe he's my best friend too".

This is an author with potential but needs some major polishing

The storyline for this duet is pretty cliche but has enough unique elements to stand out and draw a reader in. It's familiar enough but does not have a cookie cutter feel that some in this genre lean towards.

We start with Mia/Willow, a strong trauma laden FMC. The author does write her rather well, with a few minor bilps. For example, this girl has never been educated or had regular socializing but somehow knows big words like disembowelment? She has watched some movies and tv, albeit rarely, but has no idea what the word date means? Some things just don't add up.

For the guys we have Zack, King, Ren (who doesn't get nearly enough attention from the author) and Parker who are all decent, interesting and consistent throughout the duet. All 4 of these guys have some past darkness but are still strong, supportive, caring, and trying so hard for Mia. And then there's Rowan. He can kinda get bent. Right to the very end I find him nothing more than a self-centered self-important controlling jerk.

Side characters are varied! Nick and Lyla are odd, off, bizarre in ways that don't make sense. Lyla especially is on par with Rowan, has a constant menacing tinge, and needs a quick smack back into her own lane. Adam is baffling; he seems benevolent but, around midway through this book of the duet, he gets a menacing feel to him that doesn't really get resolved. Ezra is the book bestie everyone needs in real life too.

Unfortunately, this sidies list is also full of characters with a vague presence that seem more like intentional plot threads for the author to utilize *IF* this series gets enough attention to hope for lucrative spinoffs. They just feel like giant question marks that didn't add much (or enough) value to this book to support their existence. Brian for example seems to have some big story potential but he barely succeeded in his police savior role in this duet.

The author has several flaws throughout the series that seem mostly due to poor editing and poor planning. Extra commas here, missing commas there, the wrong MMC named from one sentence to the next - it's not enough to really kill the reading vibes but it's obnoxious at times due to the prevalence.

The pacing was off. It dragged on forever without anything happening but the antagonist resolution took like 6 sentences total. I exaggerate slightly, but still! Between the 2 books it's almost 600 pages and, I swear, some judicious editing could have resulted in an excellent single book complete story with readers clamoring for books two, three, etc. There is a ton of potential on the table for this universe but I can't bring myself to read the next book right now because this was a bit of a let down.

The relationship building is not great despite the author claiming that as the reason for a duet. The intimacy starts abruptly and quickly becomes a hurdle for the actual plot progression (these boys have no idea what priorities and better timing look like).

Consider reading this if - you are between favorite author releases, you like a rollercoaster fantasy romance, you're comfortable with doors opening at odd times, you don't get bugged by inconsistency.

Definitely preferred the first book!

Basically, the first book was just better! Introducing Willow, setting up her story, meeting her harem, then being rescued and discovering her REAL PARENTS. It was a satisfying and fun read. With just a little bit of sexy time, lol.

Vengeful Souls: Willows Pack Book Two simply isn’t very good. Yup the author Anne Hall has “upped her smut level,” since Willow now is eighteen and has discovered all her mates and has been reunited with her REAL family.

I enjoyed a few parts of the book, but honestly Rowan and Parker made absolutely 100% no sense together. Okay so Parker had a lil crush growing up with Rowan, and when they met Willow, Rowan eyed Parker’s backside…promptly getting sick!!! He was sick because although Parker was a pack member, he had NEVER thought of Parker THAT WAY before. Suddenly he’s having intense physical cravings for Parker, Parker too wants Rown and bite him and take him as his mate, but like Willow is to both of them.

It’s just not organic!! The relationship between Rowan and Parker doesn’t “flow” right! It’s choppy, full of holes and it’s just a mess!! So they grew up together, so what? So Parker had a KID CRUSH on Rowan, again, so what?!! It was when they were like 9 yrs old *eye roll* They BOTH GRAVITATE TOWARD WILLOW (hello she is BOTH OF THEIR MATES! They should be wooing and courting Willow, NOT spending copious time trying to f*ck each other once they decide to go for it!! It just kind of made my stomach turn, and sort of made me feel bad for Willow, like she was betrayed and cheated on - Willow is healing from a gruesome attack AND ROWN AND Parker are having sex! *eye roll* let’s not forget the others are having some brand new thoughts - only a few of them about sleeping with their pack brothers. THIS IS NOT RIGHT! Rowan knew 100% that Willow is his mate, so did Parker, and yet they left her alone only to snap at her, send her away, have sex with her and suddenly realize they’re in love with one another!!

Willow should rightly so be their number one priority!!! Heck I get it, the guys are HOT and might have “checked each other out before,” but it was explained away by the author explaining a series of events that led to them just not feeling anything other than BROTHERLY LOVE! Then they meet Willow and she becomes, or at least she is supposed to become the CENTER OF THEIR FREAKING UNIVERSE!! They’re ecstatic and so happy with her, until really THIS BOOK! This book takes more time throwing the guys into sexual situations with one another (as in the author had decided to make this a gay romance…with alternating views and perspectives on the matter!)

NO! This is a paranormal/fantasy romance author who wrote about a traumatized pack (especially a poor Omega Who was tortured and abused) so abused that she knew nothing about them ( her captors) her mates FOR A WHILE, and they didn’t know her as of a Pack

Good HFN for the Duet
This book picks right up after the last one and takes you on a real roller coaster of a read!
Mis discovers who she really is and what the potentially means for her future. Although with her captor on the run and prepared to fight it’s not a future that’s straight forward or without it’s heartbreak 😖
She’s still incredibly wary of the world and I like how realistically this author deals with this!! Just because she’s now with her father mates or love of her life she’s not just magically better and they can’t fix everything for her….she does need to come to terms with it in her own time and her own space and she gets that! With that being said she does have individual connections with each of her guys that are all built at her own pace and they are incredibly supportive 😍
Vixen is definitely the backbone of their pairing and isn’t afraid to step in for Mia with their mates when they’ve missed the mark! 👍🏻
This is a HFN and all the key aspects/storylines are wrapped up, although it is left open to be developed in the future….I would definitely read an update further down their journey 😁
They are a lot of POVs to follow in this one, not just Mia and the harem so you do have to pay attention to whom your reading! The only other thing is I would have liked to see more of the relationship between Mia and her brother, sadly that wasn’t touched upon.
But overall a good ending to this authors debut duet 😁

Note to Author

Your author note at the end of book 2 seemed to feel like you were apologizing to your readers for not rushing the story. Taking time for Willow to develop as a character added more depth into why she felt as she did and her journey of growth within herself.

I actually appreciated your attention to the time and support it takes to acclimate one’s self after a traumatic experience. Referencing the insecurity and mistrust of others while Willow healed and grew stronger from her experiences.

Many authors like to use the “I’m strong enough to do it myself” mantra without the MC having character growth and gaining the realization the true support of loved ones does not mean you are weak, it supports and emphasizes your strength.

This story is refreshing as it reflects for me the needs all of us to have for a strong support system. While also reflecting the feelings of helplessness we can feel even when we are strong enough to persevere when we are or we feel we are alone.

Good Concept

The book has a wonderful concept but either some things need to be cut out in order to focus on the main story line and characters or it just needs to be longer. There are a lot of plot holes like what happened to her brother he was there one minute and never spoken about or acknowledged again, how did her and her birth mom readjust especially with the uneasiness between them? I would have liked to see her argue with her parents about lying to her after everything she went through. Why did Adam and Sam fall out if they were bffs as children? The male characters were not as well developed as I would like either and also what gave Marley the power to do all the shit that she did? Was someone funding her or was she working with someone? What was her like real end goal just to blow shit up and ruin willows life or something else, bc it sounded like there was an end goal? Also explain more about what the tainted magic thing was how does it happen can it happen to anyone why Marley?

DNF 41%.

too much happening. POV shifts, plot points, everything was too much. there are enough plot points for five books but the author decided tp make it a duet, so it all seemed rushed and confusing. so rushed that it impacted the way i perceived the characters. the h's parents start pressuring her about becoming the pack heir like a day after getting her back. that's a plot point that should have come up in a later book but because it's a duet it had to happen right away and makes the parents seem cold and uncaring.
but it's a continuous problem throughout the duet: the characters not behaving like expected. like how the heroine sees her brother for the first time in fifteen years and they don't even talk or ANYTHING. like, it's glossed over like it doesn't even matter. she literally just noted that he was in the room, and nothing else. the reunion between the h and her family should've been such an emotional moment, and it felt so completely awkward and hollow instead.

Mia/Willow is back and thrown into a crazy situation. She’s back with her real parents, but she has severe trauma that is centered around these roles - especially the role of a mother. She continues to learn to be more assertive and feel comfortable making decisions. A slow and steady healing process.

All of her mates are extremely supportive and caring throughout her healing process and the impending battle with Marley. The steam level is kicked up in this book. Mia/Willow does have her heat in this book and well….you can figure out how that goes.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Vengeful Soul brought some closure to Mia/Willow’s story. I enjoyed watching her grow and heal. I still love all of the guys and it was really nice to see more of their stories. I was pleased with the ending and the HEA for now. Hopefully, we will see these characters in another story one day.

The first book grew my expectations but unfortunately I wasn’t what I thought it would be.
There are as a lot going on and so many different POVS that got me confused. The author didn’t develop the relationship with guys in the same level at the first book.
Her inner dialogue was boring sometimes, because she fears everything(understandable in her situation) and the guys also with so many insecurities about their mating. The threat always present adding the suspense and that was good, but I couldn’t fully understand what their powers actually were and the lack of touch of her parents after finding her long lost daughter questioning her to make such important decisions. They didn’t bond at all. And her brother?
How could she not her a single conversation with him? I don’t know, it was super rushed and with an overload of information.

Not bad for a HFN

I’m not entirely sure what I expected from this book since it’s the conclusion of the duet. I suppose I thought it would have a more finished feel to it. Like the arc is complete so we can move on to something else in the world or even a new series with Mia and her guys. I guess I expected more. More time on the relationships with her guys specifically, but also on her magic, because I don’t understand precisely what she can actually do. Also, the ending is a mild cliff which doesn’t sit quite right with me. Maybe if the arc felt complete that type of ending would have been fine.

I will say I loved how Marley was defeated, because I felt that Mia got her justice but also had the opportunity to show how much she’s grown as a character.

Should be interesting to see what happens next in this world.

I couldn't finish, I really tried to push through the first book (which was very hard) but I just didn't have it in me to finish this one.. I didn't really even know what was happening most of the time, essentially the story was lost because the effects of Willow/Mias mental health was so dragged out.
I was bored and found myself rolling my eyes when I was pushing through reading. Like she was some scared timid girl with ptsd (understandable), but would yell/scream/blowup at Rowan for having his own personal issues with Parker and go crazy and say Rowan broke her trust (honestly don't know if this was the first book or second because it was all mushed together). It had potential but too much was crammed into two books.
Not for me.

HFN 😕 really???

Why don't I rate this book 4 or 5 stars even it's a good one? Only because of the HFN. Maybe we're too used for HEA as readers but the end isn't definitely satisfying.
The author explains why the story couldn't finish with a HEA and I understand her arguments but so why doesn't she write a third book as so many things aren't resolve yet? She said that maybe she will come back to this story or sequel...meeh🧐 doesn't make sense. Finish your story properly or don't write it because this kind of end/no end isn't respectful for readers. For me it just looks like laziness even I'm sure it's not the case. I'm disappointed.

This is the second installment of this series where we follow Mia/Willow on her journey with her mates. She is a highly traumatized person,I think this could have been made into 3 books with more character development(but I am a big fan of long series lol) but all in all I really did enjoy this storyline. From what I understand there are going to be more books in this world surrounding different characters and I do look forward to those as well. I hope Vaughn gets his HEA eventually and I’d love to hear more of Ezra’s story too. So many great characters to build off of.

I did receive an ARC copy but all opinions are my own.

Not what i was expecting

It was ok, compared to the 1st book it wasnt great to me.
There was no real mention of the brother she use to follow around as a kid, no conversation between them either i would have liked to have seen more in terms of her getting reacquainted with her family. The final battle between Marley and Willow felt a little anticlimactic for me. We find out all these cool things Willow can do and none of them were really put to use. For me the book was a bit of a disappointment.

Needs more

I enjoyed the slow build in the relationship between Willow/Mia and her mates and I like how the author didn't do an easy fix for her trauma
I would give this a higher rating if I knew there was for sure going to be more to Willow's story - I know it's a HFN book, but there is a little to much left unanswered about Willow and her abilities, that she never really uses, which is a bit of a let down, she is supposed to be very powerful, but it's never explained how and what she is able to do
It like it ended at half of the story

This story picks up shortly after the end of book 1. Mia/Willow is recovering from being attacked by Marley and trying to figure out a way to capture her. I loved seeing her relationship with the guys grow and seeing her really start to take her own control. The end moved pretty quickly, but overall I really enjoyed this ending for Mia/Willow and I’m hoping to see her and the guys pop up in later stories :)

This book is nearly everything I wanted in a book. Would’ve liked to see more groveling to get back in good graces. Especially Rowan but did not see that enough. The story overall however is still really good. Loved seeing Willow connect to Vixen and how the bonds between her and the guys develop. My favorite guy so far is Parker. I also can't wait to know if Ezra, the witchy guy, will have his own book.

So the 2nd part of this Duet picks up right where book 1 left off. And whilst this book isn't as dark as the first, I feel that Anne Hall has done justice for Willow and her guys. I love the fact that the build and rebuild of the relationships was gradual and not instant and the fact that we experience the recovery from the trauma that was endured rather than it miraculously disappearing and everyone being healed. I can't wait to see what else comes from this world that has been created

Worth every page!

I loved the first one. Loved this one. Great writing, flowed easily and characters that actually had thoughts. Just enough information. Nothing repeated. No one was whiney. If you read the first, then you needed this one. Don't be a heathen and try to read the 2nd one first. Get yourself in for slightly steamy scenes and hot pack members. Fantastic!! Would highly recommend.

Great story, mediocre editing

The plot to this series is phenomenal, Willow/Mia and her men are lovely. I was disappointed with the grammar and editing. Usually if I read a book and the grammar is bad, or the book is written poorly, I can't enjoy it. However, the characters and plot in these books were enough to keep me coming back! I hope the author will learn from these books and continue progressing, I see great talent here!! Woukd recommend!

Overall a good story however this one seemed rushed.
Throughout the story we get to see how Willow learns to cope with her trauma and learn to grow now that she is able to have a personality besides living through torture.
The only thing I didn't necessarily like was how rushed the ending scenes were especially the mate bonds and her decision regarding whether or not to be the heir.
This a hfn book.

Willows pack

Interesting, but jarring world where females seem to inconsistently have traditionally male roles. However, I have no idea how Willow fits into that hierarchy. This is a duet but it is really strangely paced. There is endless drama leading up to individual matings then boom! Also, endless angst and planning for the big battle against evil, and boom, It's over in a paragraph. The first book was much better all in all.
