This is really good and the art is great, i wonder if this is actually the origin of the court of the owl, or was the tale told before in the original batman!
In this issue batman tells dick about his obsession with the court of the owls when he was just a kid.
We also learn that Alan Wayne died by assassination.
And batman falls into a labyrinth and finally meets the court.

Batman #4 by Scott Snyder slows things down a bit with a heavy dose of backstory, but it’s rich and necessary world-building. We dive deeper into the Court of Owls mythos, setting the stage for what’s clearly a much bigger threat. It’s not as tense or fast-paced as previous issues, but the lore adds real weight.

Bruce’s descent into the Owls’ trap is just beginning, and while the pacing eases up, the mood stays eerie and unsettling. Capullo’s art remains top-tier—especially in the final pages, where things start to twist, literally and figuratively.

A bit slower, but still strong. Solid 4 stars.

Stories about Bruce when he was a kid always get to me. There was no difference with this one. Although I think he shouldn't underestimate the court, Dick is rigth, Alfred is worried and he should be listen. But is Bruce, we know he never listens

"You drop the guy off a building and he gets up and kills his ride to the morgue...Now you discover these bases, hidden in WAYNE BUILDINGS...bases that seem to be from different decades dating back to the 1800s...how can you NOT be a little apprehensive about what might be on the other side of the equal sign here?"

Episode 7: Face the Court

Bruce escapes the tripwire rigged owl lair and returns to the Batcave. Dick finds Bruce examining the remains of Alan Wayne and informs him of Jim Gordan and Dicks worries for him. Bruce once again denies the existence of the court, having looked into it after his parents murder.

Episode 8: Face the Court

Bruce explains to Dick how he sought after proof of the Court of Owls as a child. However, he found nothing and ended up being hospitalized after being stuck in an abandoned building for a week.
After inspecting Alan Wayne's bones, Bruce found that he most likely didn't die by drowning in the sewers. He found 50 knife wounds on his bones and an odd residue. Batman is inspecting the sewers when he's jumped by a Talon, waking up in a maze and greeted by 3 people with owl masks.

Batman #4 – “Face the Court”

Batman’s defiance meets the Court’s fury. The pacing ramps up as Bruce gets closer to uncovering their truth — and the Court responds violently.

Snyder builds a psychological thriller here, exploring Bruce’s obsession and denial. Capullo’s art grows darker, reflecting Bruce’s mental unraveling as the myth becomes horrifyingly real. The issue ends on a haunting note that propels the story into madness.

This is my favorite issue of the series so far. The art style used during the flashbacks to Bruce's childhood is something I wish could be used more. I really felt for him wanting to believe that there was some greater conspiracy behind his parents' deaths rather than accepting that a common crook killed them for very little.

still more of a 4.5 but damn this book is good. the buildup of the mystery is fantastic, and we get a more emotional pull in this issue, showing that batman is more than just a stoic character, but he’s also a very human person. very very good, can’t wait to see what they do with the setup on that last page.

I get these monthly but I'll review the collections as they come.

I wouldn't say there is anything new, exactly, in this version of Batman, but there is something to be said for focusing in on the things that make Batman great. As the story progresses, however, the bottom falls out for Batman and the reader as we find that something new was coming after all. I'm being vague on purpose to not give anything away--although its daft to think I need to review Batman for anyone out there anyway (you already read this or you never will).

Beware the Court of Owls, that watches all the time,
Ruling Gotham from a shadowed perch, behind granite and lime.
They watch you at your hearth, they watch you in your bed.
Speak not a whispered word about them, or they'll send the Talon for your head.
