Mates of the Kaluma #4

Rescued by the Alien Outlaw

Rate this book
Instead of a white knight, I got a bronze alien…

Rain: My life has never been my own, and that’s never been more true than in the Rinian Galaxy. I’ve always had dreams that led me to believe my life is bigger than being the servant to some snake alien queen, but as each year goes by, I’m beginning to think my subconscious is lying to me. Until he shows up… the Kaluma with one blue eye who I’ve never forgotten. But he’s not who I remember, and it seems this galaxy has broken another soul.

Kazel: I will rescue Rain, and I refuse to die trying. She’s the reason I’m alive, and I always repay my debts, even if it means pretending to be someone I’m not to infiltrate the enemy’s stronghold.

But this won’t be easy. As I embark on the mission of my life, I know it will take all of my wits to rescue the beautiful, strong human and then convince her I’m her future… as her fated mate.

Rescued by the Alien Outlaw features a strong heroine who will do anything to survive and an alien hero who’s seen it all and is ready to finally return home with his mate.

Terrific ratio of story and steam!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚💜💙❤️🩷
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: 😒🥺😀🙂🥰
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Rain - she was Cinderella to Drukil, the Vyspa (snake-like alien) who took over as head of the Rinian council. Drukil was creating an army of her spawn (monsters), and Rain was the weak human female that cleaned up after them all, working incessantly and doing whatever Drukil said, since she had seen Drukil tear apart even her own children for misbehaving. She tried to always remain as invisible as possible. Her life on earth hadn’t been much better, but at least she’d had a dog, she talked to all the time. She felt that she was the same to Drukil when they were alone. Drukil told her all her secrets and Rain filed them away for a later time when she hoped to somehow use them against the evil alien.

The Hero: Kazel - He is the older brother of Sherif, the ruler of the Kaluma. When they were younger, before his mother died and his father went crazy and started to rule with an iron fist and take advantage of his own people, Kazel was stolen from his planet, but even after he was freed, he hadn’t returned, knowing that Sherif would one day make a better leader than he would. He never knew what had happened with his father until he again met up with Sherif and his mate. Kazel had once been saved by Rain, and he wanted to return the favor, to pay his debt to her.

The Story: One day, Rain sees Kazel, who had come to see Drukil. She was distressed to see no recognition in his eyes when he looked at her and even more so when he bends a knee to Drukil and tells her that he wants to join her cause. She had known Kazel while they were both held captive by Drukil and Kazel was kept in a cell and forced to fight other species. She had known him as a gentle soul who would never hurt a fly, but he came in and offered to punish another alien whom he caught sneaking around. She wanted Kazel to be good again, like when she’d known him, but he fought against the other alien.

Little did Rain know that this was all a ploy Kazel had come up with in order to rescue Rain. Both were surprised when the first thing Drukil wanted Kazel to do was to breed with her pet human. Rain was not happy. She had never really wanted kids, and in this galaxy, she certainly didn’t want to put any child through that, especially one she carried inside her for months on end.

“It’s been you since the moment I met you. Before you saved my life. I want to make you my mate. In my mind you always have been.”

I really liked this one. Kazel’s rescue did not go as planned, of course, but that made the story all the better. Rain sees herself as a coward now, unlike when she first fought hard to help Kazel escape the prison they were held in. Like many other alien romances, this was a story of a journey that the main characters take to get back to their home. These books have some steamy scenes but not as many as some alien romance, which I like. I value story over sex, but still like a bit of steam in my romance. This series had a great ratio that was perfect for my tastes.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view and was narrated in dual narration by Jillian Macie and Todd Mclaren. Jillian has a nice, expressive voice and always does a great job, especially with alien romance. Todd Mclaren is not one of my favorite narrators, in the last few books, I didn’t like his voice for the female characters, it was really quite distracting, especially in the intimate scenes. Though this book was mostly narrated by Jillian Macie, so I wasn’t bothered.

So I was not overly thrilled with how this one began. I was hoping for.... I don't know. Something more. Something more.. Everything! I have been dying to know about Kazel. Was he alive, was he ever coming back to Torin???? Who would he choose to love? What has his journey been like when he's been lost all this time to his people? So I guess you could say I was wishing or expecting something more poignant. Intense. And just an all around consuming read. But for 70% of this book, that is not what I got.

Don't mis-understand me. What I saw was still good. It still made me care and want to stay for awhile.. Kazel and Rain... I see why he could not give up on finding her... It just felt like it was missing something. It was just lacking in all of the ways that I hoped it wouldn't be... But then that 71% mark happened and all hell broke loose! I was crazy out of my mind, hoping this one would end on a good note for everyone... Needless to say the last 30% of this book was awesome.
Hence the 5 star rating.

Even though before this point, I was worried and quite honestly, a little let down; I am really pleased with how this one brought this series to a close. It was great. Bittersweet. Beautiful..

I am also super excited that Ms. Maven has decided to return to Torin/Corin with a new set of Drixonians for us to meet. I cannot wait to learn who these Warriors are and what their journeys are going to reveal.

This was a great series. Again, I HIGHLY suggest you read the Drixonian Warrior series first. Then the Stolen Warriors, before you land here with the Kalumas. You'll thank me later. ;)

I'd known since I first laid eyes on her that she was my mate. My other half. My linyx... Pale skin flushed pink, she was everything I imagined her to be all these many cycles I searched for her.

4 stars

I cannot believe I've reached the end of another amazing series by the brilliant Ella Maven! I love the humor, passion, and sense of adventure that she weaves into every one of her stories. Kazel and Rain's story held so much unfettered emotion as they both have struggled with the will to live while surviving under Drukil. Kazel and Rain saved and supported each other in their darkest moments, and I loved how unconditional their love was for each other and their family. As always, I absolutely adored seeing all of my favorite Drixonians and Kalumas being badass warriors and doting partners to their mates, and I cannot wait to move on to the next series about the Outcasts of Corin!🖤

Tropes: fated mates, surprise baby, protector hero, tortured heroine, touch her and die, opposites attract, hurt/comfort, escape alien capture, found family, STEAMY🔥

Noooooooo….. This can’t be the end…. I don’t want it to end….

*****
Rating: 5 stars
Steam: 1.5 flames
Genre: Alien Abduction / Fated Mates / Sci-Fi Romance
*****
And the Kaluma series comes to an end, and I am sad. From the Drixonians, to the Stolen Warriors, to the Mates of the Kaluma, I have fallen in love with each and every one of these broken warriors and I don’t want to say goodbye to any of them.

In this last book of the Kaluma series, we have Kazel’s story… Sherif’s lost, then found, and then lost again brother. Kazel is looking for the human woman that saved him many cycles ago, Rain and he can’t stop until he finds her.

Rain has been beaten and broken, as a prisoner of the evil Drukil (who has been trying to birth a master species of super warriors), she has only felt fear and abuse for years. Her one act of defiance years ago cost her dearly… she was beaten within an inch of her life for helping the Kaluma escape. Now, she feels weak, scared, fearful…until she comes face to face with the Kaluma again.

These two have many obstacles to overcome to get to their happily ever after. But, they won’t do it alone… I am not going to ruin anything but this book… oh my goodness this book. This book brought all the feels and it was a fabulous ending to what has been a phenomenal series! I did read at the end that the author will be heading back to another Drixonian settlement so I am relieved that there will be more, and I hope that we will get glimpses of these Drixonians, Hilbobs, Kalumas, and so many more through out the next series.

I have loved every book in this series… and this one made my heart sing too. A must read author, book, series in my opinion. A five star book in a five star series!

Rain is such a wonderful woman! She’s been kidnapped, imprisoned, abused and broken. But, despite everything, she’s such a kind and selfless person. I loved her strength and bravery to endure everything thrown her way. She’s a true survivor and I loved her so much!

And Kazel is an honorable, strong and fiercely protective male. And he’s done so much to help others. Even more, I loved his determination to find the woman that once saved him, no matter the cost. He’s absolutely amazing and I adored him!

I loved absolutely everything that happened between Rain and Kaz. Their road to happiness was quite bumpy. But they were such a perfect match and their chemistry was amazing and sizzling hot. And after everything both have been through, they more than deserved to find peace, love and family with each other.

In addition, everything that happened in this story was fantastic! It was so awesome to meet again all the Kaluma and Drexians and their mates for one final epic and bloody battle against Drukil.

Overall, the story is a magnificent end to an absolutely phenomenal series! It’s filled with danger, fast-paced action, suspense, drama, twists, surprises, steamy romance and wonderful characters.

I couldn’t put it down and loved every page of it!

This one is a 3.5, because it had a pretty clunky beginning. I appreciate the author trying to vary the formula a bit in this spin off series, though.

The H/h had history with each other before the start of this book. Because of that, this book opened with them reencountering each other - he's been looking for her since she helped him escape - and they were having sex in the first like 10% of the book. And honestly, it was freaking awkward. Like, the encounter was forced, I didn't buy any of the feelings they are telling me they have, and I had zero emotional connection to it. Awkward.

Then they were immediately separated again.

For months.

She, of course, got pregnant on the first go (as an aside, are the dolphin alien dudes actively scanning for fertile women when they abduct from Earth, or what? Because seriously...). And she's still the slave of a monster. And I gotta be honest, I'd kill myself before I'd birth a kid into that situation. I'd definitely be experimenting with the alien equivalent of a coat hanger. Because how is this a good choice?

Anyway, I did like both Rain and Kaz, even though she grated on me a bit. She was the most physically abused of all the FMCs in any of these series - her back is horribly scarred from them literally whipping the skin off it, down to the bone (we don't see this, we're told, it was years ago after she helped Kaz escape), but it doesn't seem to really shape her character. She's weird about it. Laments that she's not more brave, and talks about others having sacrificed for her, which is nonsense - no one has done anything for her, and certainly not suffered harm for her benefit, so sacrifice is the wrong word. She and the half-breed chick help each other, no one sacrifices. The chick helps create a window, and Rain knows about the tunnels they can use.

I don't know, something about her personality felt forced. If she was struggling with the baggage of being an abused pet for literal years, I'd get that. But she wasn't, not really. She was inconsistent with it - sometimes poor self esteem, but multiple times in this book, she rescues people (Kaz twice, plus the once in the distant past when they first met).

And Kaz is a good guy, but like, what in the fuck was his actual plan here? He comes to rescue her, but it is immediately a shitshow and she ends up having to rescue him. I mean, really?

Anyway, these books have all been fun, fast, light reads, which is exactly what I was in the mood for. Just don't take them too seriously, and don't try and imagine how exactly the weird sprinkler-head penis works. Just roll with it.

Quick(ish) Review

Review - Rescued by the Alien Outlaw by Ella Maven

I think this is the last book in this series, and if it is, it's a decent one to go out on. The couple, Rain and Kazel, have been through the wringer and they've got that angsty torture thing going on. Like literal torture, they've been abused by Drukil, the big bad of the series, who's pretty gross. Anyaliens, these guys have been through it and deserve a chance to be together.

I just wish I'd gotten a bit more enjoyment from the final confrontation - it was a weird combination of on-page small action mixed with alot of being told stuff after the fact. I don't know it didn't flow as well as it could have. But if you're here for the romance, not the action, that was there and while we didn't see their initial meeting/escape thing, the HEA and all the little moments of enjoying their victory over evil was there, so that wasn't bad. And there's a little bit of their allies (and the OG series), the Drixonians and their mates, who show up as well, which was satisfyig for me, as a longtime reader. I think this would work better for the long term reader, than as a standalone. Just my two pennies.

Liked this one too. Loved the pregnancy too. Sweet love story. Kazel searched for years to find Rain because she saved him years ago.

Loved the ending and seeing some of our Drixonian characters. The ending scenes were good.

I still recommend the Drixonian series to read. I enjoyed it more than this one.

Rescued by the alien outlaw de Ella Maven Serie Mates of the Kaluma libro 4

Argumento:

A totally engrossing and fast-paced read! Right from the start, you are going to feel things for Rain. Mad at her treatment, sad for her predicament, and hope that she'll survive the hell she's stuck in, all at the same time, the feelings will hit you. Drukil was the epitome of evil, like on a scale of one to ten, she was easily a 55. Kazel was kind of hapless, his rescue was not well planned and doomed to fail. I loved both of them anyway... I mean Rain and Kaz....not Drukil, she was awful. Carew was also a character that was completely sympathetic with a horrible back story too. This book was full of interesting turns and twists as well as moments of fleeting happiness, like a taste of honey before the wicked medicine hits, Rain and Kaz have to fight to get their happy ending, and there were times that I sincerely doubted that they would. I am loving the work from this author, this is another book that I just couldn't put down!

Ao mesmo tempo que eu gostei dessa serie eu nao amei tanto quanto os drix.

Nao tem quase nada de desenvolvimento, é tudo muito raso. O foco é 100% no casal e no romance deles.

A long lost brother finds love

The long lost brother, Kazel, returned in the previous book but he doesn't stay on Torin for long... he has a woman to find, the one woman he can't forget. Rain has been a prisoner since she was abducted on Earth but she has never forgotten the bronze warrior who got her attention. When Kazel finds Rain again they've both changed... but Kazel refuses to leave without the woman who is his fated mate and nothing and no alien will stand in his way!!

A great way to end this series - especially with the Drixonian Warriors making an appearance again!!

Ever wondered what it would be like to copulate with an alien that’s part man, part magical lizard? You don’t want to miss these!

This author is absolutely brilliant with her writing style. They (she?) have balanced the perfect amount of action, adventure, desire and romance. I have read every single book in this series (starting with the Drixonian Warrior Series), including every book of the each offshoot. This book in this series is one of those offshoots. We first met the Kaluma Species amidst the Drixonian series. The only similarity to the Drixonians the Kaluma have is a similar size and look, along with compatibility and attraction to human females. The Kaluma are not blue like the Drix, but bronze skin mixed with scales…

…And here is where these books lost me…

Supposedly, the Kaluma have the ability to “turn invisible” by “flipping” their lizard-like scales. Okay sure. We’re taking aliens here, so I can wrap my head around the biology incorporated with this idea. What I can’t wrap my head around? Somehow, once a human female is a bonded mate to a Kaluma, SHE now has the ability to turn invisible. HOW?! She doesn’t have magical scales that flip over, but we’re supposed to believe it just “happened?” Yeah… no. The author completely lost me there. I also cannot get on board with the “clothes” randomly turning invisible as well. This concept was not well thought out, in my humble opinion. What I found really fascinating is the ability to dream about the future. That “ability” being the result of the mate bond made a lot more sense than turning invisible.

There are a numerous amount of editorial errors throughout each book, but not enough to take away from the experience.

I will add, however, with a bit of disappointment, that while each book has different characters with different outlooks, each outcome is exactly the same. Boy saves girl, boy has issues about his past that prevents him from “claiming” girl, girl has exact same issues, girl saves boy somehow, girl magically becomes invisible as a result of being mated, boy and girl finally accept their feelings for each other and live happily ever after. That’s the bases for each and every book. Still, I will read it over and over again with a sense of fulfillment. This book, being the finale of the series, follows the missing brother Kaluma warrior. Glad to read that he was still alive and well. We also get a little Drixonian action towards the end.

Kinda glad the author ditched making more books with this offshoot, because I am looking forward to more Drixonian stories. This book is still worth the read, even with its flaws.

Absolutely fantastic end to this arc of the series!💖🔥💖💖🔥💖

Kazel the stolen son returned to his people a vastly different male who is consumed with finding the human female who saved his life and in his heart he calls mate. When he finds out the evil Drukil has his beloved he will stop at nothing to rescue her. Rain has been in slavery for so long her spirit is slowly dying. The one memory that keeps her going is the escape she planned and executed that allowed Kazel to be a free male. She new in her heart that she couldn't leave him in that prison cell. She doesn't regret the punishment she suffered and just hopes that here happy. What she doesn't know is that he never forgot her and that he's coming for her. When they see each other again passion and love fills their hearts but they need to escape the evil that wants to subjugate and control them. It's an adventure filled with love forgiveness and acceptance. You'll see old friends and loose ends will be pleasantly tied,, with hints of more deliciousness to come. We haven't see the complete end to the Drix or the Kaluma warriors it will be new takes of new heros and the fierce women who love them.! I for one can't wait!💖💖🔥🔥🔥💖🔥💖💖💖🔥💖🔥💖💖💖🔥🔥💖💖💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥

Good

Kazel and Rain

Kazel has been searching for Rain for ages, but getting her free isn’t as easy as he’d hoped. The Rinian government has been corrupted by Drukil, and the Kaluma want her gone, but Rain has been her slave for a while now…

The final story in this series features Kazel (Sherif’s brother, and a stolen warrior) and Rain. We don’t actually hear much about how Kazel came to be captured, only how he was freed. And much of his story is actually found in his brother’s book, which is the one before this in the series- so no, it’s not really a standalone because it builds a lot on the three previous books.
Rain is a human who has been around for a while. She’s been through the wringer, and it’s made her far less likely to act out, or take risks. She’s brave when she needs to be though!

There’s plenty of action and steamy scenes in the book, though most of it is really about the resolution to the overarching background story that has been playing out through the series. We get some cameos again from the Drixonian and Stolen Warriors series, so fans will enjoy those.
All in all, it’s an enjoyable story, with some fun characters and an entertaining background story arc. SFR/alien romance fans will enjoy the series.

I don't know when the fuck people started publishing rape fantasy porn under the guise of romance but it's honestly fucking disgusting. What in the everloving fuck would make the author think that any of this is even remotely ok? Is this what happens to people who have never had a single bad thing happen to them in their entire life? This is honestly so fucking gross it should've never made it off Wattpad. This is truly one of the absolute worst books I've ever had the displeasure of wasting my money on. I want to protest on the streets about how fucking awful this is, I'm so pissed off. I mean no wonder people hate on white people when this is the shit we come up with.

Not only should this have never even been published, but this is supposed to be part of an actually decent series and that's a fucking travesty. Literally no storyline introduction, major time gap in the middle, the fantasy disassociation bit was just weird. I realize these kinds of books get a bit prescriptive by nature, but the writing was basically just cliche after chiche. Also I fucking hate pregnancy in romances. What a stinking pile of shit.

another perfect story

another perfect story
Sheif’s brother Kazel, returns to the slave planet to rescue the female “Rain” who saved his life. The evil serpent like queen and her daughters are stealing verile males of multiple species like drixonian and kaluhma’s to breed hybrid army’s of monsters. They have Rain a human female barely surviving after a near death beating for helping Sherif & his mate escape as well as
Kazel Now has returned to pretend to breed for the queen but he escapes with Rain instead. Can they stay free or will they get their kahluma & drixonian friends enslaved as well?
I loved to return of past mates & updates on relationships & pairings and children from past series coming together at the end and a promise for more in the future with a new group of Drixonian tribe that fought in the final battle in this book, perfect segue into the next series.

Rain always had dreams that her life would be better than it currently is as a servant to the snake queen. Then the Kaluma warrior with one blue eye who she has never forgotten turns up but he is not how she remembers him and appears like a broken soul. Kazel has come back to rescue Rain because she is the reason he is still alive and he is determined to pay her back even if it means he has to infiltrate the enemy stronghold. But it won't be easy, will take all of his wits but he is determined to succeed - after all, she is his fated mate and they both deserve a future.

I enjoyed this story of what happened when Kazel went back for rain. It had a suitable mix of drama, danger, twists and turns that made their joint fate well worth the effort in achieving. I loved the twist of the folks that helped them and how they related to the story. Easy to read and understand. Contains explicit sexual content.

Me? Binged an entire series in less than one week? IMPOSSIBLE!

I've been dying to read Kazel's story since he was first introduced and honestly a part of me kept reading just to get to his story. His story started off... differently to what I'd expected/hoped for. It disappointed me a little, but it wasn't major enough for me to stop reading and rant. Kazel is such a sweet, loveable hero. I've binged four books and realised Ella Maven is just exceptional at writing my next book boyfriend and heroines I actually like and support.

My critique is the "battle". Too quick and too short for an issue that spanned over four books and seemed to affect an entire galaxy. It was definitely too easy.

Overall, my favourite in the series have to be books 1 and 2. If you enjoy works from Ruby Dixon, give this author a go!

finally got kazel!!

I loved this story! I was so excited to get kazels story ever since the drixonian series and learned of Rex and kazel and all the stolen warriors. And it didn’t disappoint. Kazel on a mission to find the woman who saved him. Rain and kazel have been each other’s half since their first encounter. He is an awesome character who has been Helton fathers every since he escaped paying it forward. Rain has been in servitude for what seems like forever. After helping kaz escape she was severely beaten and has lost her spark and now just seems to go with the flow that allows her to take her next breath each day. Loved how they built each other up and be better selves. Loved how they got their fantasy escapes while suffering in the drukils lair. Love when the drix and kaluma come together and have kick ass battles. Loved this series. Can’t wait for more.

Beautiful Reunion/Second Chance Sci-fi Romance

Kazel never forgot the human woman named Rain who freed him from captivity, so much so that he never went back home. When he finally finds her, he learns she is his mate. While Rain is happy to see him, her captor and new owner is not. They have to do a lot to escape and earn their happiness, but the manage.

I loved the side characters and the series climax! I really hope we come back to the Kalumas at some point and possibly due a triad romance with the kaluma twins who certainly need their own human woman. Regardless, this was a good ending to the series and I’m ready to start the new series featuring new isolated Drixonians.

This was such an easy read, it’s shorter so I was able to get through it in one morning. I think it ties things up nicely for the Kaluma. Kazel is a great lead and I really liked seeing how devoted he was to his cause. Rain is a great match for him. Even though Rain sees herself negatively, cowardly and useless, she’s actually quite brave given the opportunity and she was really given the chance to shine. I like Racks and Carew a lot! Carew is smart and sweet even if she’s made questionable choices. You can tell she wants to do right by others but desperately wants to survive and be with her mate.

Seeing all the past characters again was a nice way to wrap up this part of the series!

Eh a bit anticlimactic.
But yay for HEAs.
Rain was in a most precarious situation serving the evil queen. And brave Kazel mated her and then got imprisoned. That was an interesting beginning. And too easy in a way.
Then after three months they escape. Have some blissful days and are recaptured.
And before you know it, they’re saved and the evil queen and her offspring are destroyed.
I liked Kazel, but I wasn’t fond of this story as much. It was just too easy. Maybe I’ll give the Drixonian series another chance. We’ll see.

Scary villain star crossed lovers

I like the Cinderella bent on this tale of adventure. It was a bit lite, but thrilling as usual with Ella Maven. I love how my brain clicked with recognition on the supporting characters and where you don't have to have read her other books to enjoy this adventure. It certainly adds a wonderful depth to the story. And as usual you are left wanting more of these worlds and their aliens.

Freedom

I don’t think I will ever get enough of Ella and her aliens! I loved this series and the latest book has the the long lost son Kazel finally returning home to stay with his mate Rain. OMG what those two had to go through for their HEA! Lots of action and a reunion of old friends from other series. The world building is fantastic and I’m invested in all of the characters. Loved it

I was so glad to read this book. Kazel and Rain were both interesting characters and thier adventure was good. I would have liked it better if the author would have written the villains downfall from Kazel's point of view as it happened, it was anticlimactic just telling us about it after the fact. And yes that might be a little blood thirsty but she deserved it and more. Hopefully there are more stories in the future for the tribe.

Read both series loved them!

Read the eight Drixonian warrior books, then the Stolen Warriors , then the Mates of Kaluma ! What a wonderful series of books how brave and intrepid the humans and warriors are! I liked the conclusion that found the rescued humans finding mates, having children and forming deep bonds of friendship both human and interspecies. Well done five stars thorough enjoyment.
