Emma is a Black/white Muslim American mom of five, ages 6-22, in her mid-forties just trying to live her best life…which usually includes coffee, wine, and an unfortunate habit of one-clicking any pretty special edition that winds up in her feed. (If you DM it, she will come.)

She likes K-pop (#army, #moa) cultivation dramas (Till the End of the Moon,) precioussss silence, and collects more makeup than she uses.

She bends knee to Michelle Sagara West, Anne Bishop, N.K. Jemisin, Grace Draven, J.D. Robb, and Nalini Singh—a nod to Sanderson, Goodkind, Eddings, McCaffrey, and McKinley.

If you are looking for romantic epic fantasy set in complex, diverse, sex positive worlds with morally gray societies, powerful anti-heroes with THAD energy, multi-racial heroines at least 35—if not 350—coming into power, and a central theme of family, both dysfunctional and supportive, then you will binge her stories..

This is the conclusion to Khulrul and Chanda’s epic love story. After hiding from him for eighteen years Chanda is finally caught and brought back to his home world, where Khulrul sets his mind to winning her trust and to making her realise they are blood bonded mates. Her secret is exposed, she has bore him a set of twins, now young adults. Will she be able to prevent her evil father from finding out the truth she has kept hidden for so long? This is a dark story, full of distrust, lust, hate, love, intrigue, blood letting and brutality. It is an emotional roller coaster, but I enjoyed the ride. I loved the characters, the action, and the intrigue. It is a well written story, where the Dread Lord is the ultimate alpha male, but who finds his mate in Chanda, who is the ultimate alpha female.

The prequel intrigued me, and this book sucked me the rest of the way in. I could not put this book down and I couldn’t read it fast enough. I was desperate to find out what would happen next, how it would end. I loved how strong and independent Chanda is. Though there are a lot of times that she’s too stubborn and untrusting for my peace of mind. I adored the twins. They’re the perfect balance of their parents’ best, and worst, traits. And, while I feel a little sorry that Khulril has to put so much effort into bringing Chanda to believe in him, I also think that all the extra effort made him value her more.

Eh, this wasn't terrible. It was mildly entertaining at times. And truthfully I adored the hero Khulril. The heroine Chanda however...😬

Having finished the book I sorta understand how the heroine was so distrustful and stubborn about trusting the hero but...I couldn't excuse her running from him or never telling him about his kids. Honestly what it came down to was this chick needed some intensive therapy to get some closure with her childhood trauma, specifically her father. Shitty father, beat her mother, mother died by a beating, married her sisters off in alliances where the husbands were expected to "retrain" their wives if they weren't pleased. Basically her people were a horrible manipulative self serving lot who conditioned their women to be submissive but also desire humiliation and subjugation. See? What she needed was therapy and to grow up. Most of the book she acted pretty immature and TSTL (too stubborn to live) and was so goddamn aggressive and paranoid plotting to escape every five seconds along with her teenage twins that I was so frustrated I didn't even want to finish this.

But alas I pushed through and it was still interesting. Might check out the rest of the series. Who knows. The hero made it worth it though.

FYI: there was a particular scene before the 30% mark I believe that involved sexual torture of a kind, which the heroine asked for directly when given a choice. She chose it and a safe word which she never used. Nothing about the scene was appealing to me and it was unsettling that the heroine used it as a outlet to "forgive" herself as if she was punishing herself by making the hero do it? Most uncomfortable of all was how she was screaming at her father while the hero was doing sexual stuff to her. She was so lost in emotions and her trauma it just came out so idk...it was icky to me.

-----

Next day thought? I realized the authors did a poor job of properly explaining her history with her family and how much it truly traumatized her. Sure we find out more by the end but it felt like it was too slow to get there. The authors held it close to the chest and even when we learned more it wasn't the full story. The heroine NEVER tells the hero her past even after he asked her directly. Super frustrating.

I’m trying to decide if I hated this or not. The premise of this book had a lot of potential with several tropes that I usually like and the promise of a badass main h. And yet… there was a lot I didn’t like, some of it I even hated.
Despite the fact that this book is more than 300 pages, there is very little meaningful plot besides Chanda being caught by her ex and then fighting in the tournament as punishment for her sins and that’s it. She doesn’t solve any of her issues with her father. She doesn’t even really accomplish and court shenanigans in her Ex’s household either. The only other thing in the book is sex, which quite frankly I would classify as torture porn to some extent. I know some people might argue that this is bdsm… but I would have to disagree. F*cking someone in the *ss without prep to the point that they need time to ‘heal’ afterwords is not bdsm regardless of how many safe words you use or if they ask for it, that’s just plain causing pain.
Chanda had very little agency in this book and she is constantly pushed and forced in directions she is reluctant to go in. Everyone (even her kids to some extent) are trying to manage her and make her ‘see the light’ so to speak until about the 95% point of the book when she finally realizes that she loves her ex. I just really wish Chanda had more agency and was more active in this story, I wanted her to accomplish things and kill people. Speaking of killing people, can I just say that it really annoyed me that Chanda was written as this super badass who had fought and killed dozens of people in tournaments and yet against her ex she was essentially a rag doll, laughably easy to overcome. It was annoying all to hell. If a character is supposed to be battle hardened and skilled, they should be able to at least put up a decent fight. I could go on, but really you get the picture, this book was mostly an excuse to write vampire torture porn in space.

This is one of those books that makes the reader have to reread things, and figure things out on your own a lot. I liked the plot, the premise, and character PREMISE as well. However it was really inconsistent at times and you weren't entirely sure if some things that characters were doing was because they had an ulterior motive, based on how the authors described how they would say something - but then describe the actions as otherwise.

One point of the story it has Khulril talking to another solider, but the daughter then attacks him. Then there's a line that says how happy he is that she can understand their language...while me as a reader is then going "They were speaking another language????" And then going back trying to find any indicator, only to find nothing besides that point.

I'm conflicted with the couple and I see where it is dark. The smut is semi hot, the dirty talk etc is hot, but not described too much - and it is actually noncon. The heroine says no and the male lead is all like whether she wants it or not - she's getting it. I don't know why, but at least the ML SAYS all the shit he's going to do to the FL, rather than spanking the heroine and saying "Tell me what you did wrong" - like he's an honest alphahole lol. However when we find out about the FL's past of having an abusive.

It's also a weird understanding between the FL/ML as well with their play? The FL wants to feel forced in her thoughts that she has no choice and wans the ML to take her (which the ML can tell, so they discuss a safe word. What ensues next is a well very dark scene with him taking her by the throat and moving her till she almost blackouts and ensues a really intense scene. The next chapter continues with more kinkyness - which this play I actually would've liked ...if it wasn't for the fact that the FL is going through some intense emotional internal turmoil.

After they have that scene the ML talks about how she didn't say her word, while the FL says she didn't want to and needed all that. The ML talks about how it was even too much for him to treat her that way (He could use the safeword too right???) But I guess his love for her or possession for her overcomes that.

Okay..............................clearly the FL is going through a LOT of issues that she emotionally and...........I can't enjoy any of the steamy scenes because of this.

If you are looking for dark in the sense of emotional issues tied into the steamy scenes, plus kinks such as bloodplay/choking... well that isn't for me. So for me it wasn't the fact that the steamy scenes were just super hot...it's the fact that it was the FL (and ML's) point of how they are psychologically trying to deal with their issues that way. Which makes it hard to just see the steamy scenes as steamy, it makes me just feel really bad for the FL that this is the only outlet she can think of coping.

I'm torn because I've read Celeste King's books and liked them for how easy it was to follow the world building - so maybe the coauthor or the worldbuilding is in the previous book more? It was hard to understand the scenes that were being painted and inconsistencies with how the children acted at times - but the children are like...18? I did notice editing errors as well in particular he/her or she/he mistakes.

I did like again the idea and the kids and such + it's amusing to see how the ML has no shame to go run off with the FL alone. However it couldn't save it for me :/

I was waiting on Heir to His Court. I wanted so badly to dive back into this author`s writing that I picked the first book that fell into my hands at a quick scroll down her Amazon page.

For sure, I did not regret the decision. This was a very welcome fantasy adult romance. I still missed the more developed and more thought-through world of the The Fae Prince of Everenne series, but it quenched part of my thirst.

The main character has a pair of twins whit whom she is on the run through space. Until one day, when the father of her children catches up with them and brings them back to his planet. The story unfurls from then on. It is standalone, so I don`t want to go into too much detail.

I liked the main character`s inner voice. She was assertive and composed:

quote* I settled in, politely ignoring the stares of the table’s other occupants. It was natural they would want to look their fill. I was beautiful, as I must be. *quote

I loved the acknowledgment. It sounds like a truth that burdens her with its weight. Her beauty is not about self-pride, but about her title and stature.

Overall, the book gave me some strong Dune vibes. It was like this was a book written from Jessica`s POV (if Dune would have had the balls to integrate a more palpable romance for the female side because at least half of it is wasted on the grand mission of the young who must go and conquer it all).

quote*No Jakkathian would even imagine that one of their women had done the unthinkable. Produced unsanctioned offspring, raised them outside of her Gen’Lord’s control.*quote.

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos that I found and gripping authorial voice. The he world building in this novel was incredibly vibrant, with the politics and cultures of both the hero and heroine coming to vivid life. The characterization was excellent, with both hero and heroine being sympathetic individuals with nuance, strengths and weaknesses. The hero was deliciously alpha, and the heroine was strong yet damaged. The development of the romantic relationship had SIZZLING chemistry, with a heat level of four chili peppers. The plot was action packed and exciting, so the pacing sped by like a train! There was a medium amount of well justified angst and high stakes throughout this novel, which tends to be one of my preferred narrative structures for a romance novel. This novel used the Secret Baby trope, the Second Chance trope, and the Enemies to Lovers trope. The world building, plot, and pacing were all five stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were also five stars. I therefore gave this novel a combined rating of five stars. This novel ended on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that was a major plus. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy royal courts and political machinations in their sci-fi romances. I look forward to reading the next book in this series when it releases. I will buy myself a keeper copy of this novel.

His Secret Heir: Dread Lord’s Fated Mate is truly an intriguing story. I really enjoyed the secret baby trope expanded into a science fiction romance novel, and as I’m also a fan of fated mate and bonding-between-couples romances, I found a lot to like about the book. The characters are strong, distinct and sympathetic, and the world building complex and exciting. It’s full of family and relationships, making it a heart-warming read in many ways, and the book has a good helping of humor as well. Chanda and Khuril’s romantic journey is, as it should be, a huge part of the story, and involves a lot of very graphic sex scenes along their way to reconciliation and their happily ever after. The emotional development as the story draws to an end is strong, and the story closes on a high note.
That said, the book is one of many contrasts and contradictions, to a sometimes discordant point. Some plot elements in the story are not totally resolved at the end of the book, and while things aren’t cliffhangery, the story seemed to leave more questions than I would typically expect from a series opening book. (Or a second book, if one considers the prequel novella.) If these things wouldn’t bother you as a reader, and you like your romance on the frequent and spicy side, Dread Lord’s Fated Mate is a fun, interesting story with a lot to recommend it. It’s not a perfect tale, but the authors definitely have some storytelling skills!

I have to say that this one came acros as slightly darker and edgier than the usual books by this author but that could be because it is setting the scene somewhat. Giving you the cultural and moral standpoints of this new world along with the characters and a little backstory. Do not for one minute think that you are bogged down with it or that it takes over the book it doesn't, it is just something to be aware of. Chandra has been on the run for many years from what would have been a gilded cage. All the beauty of it would not have changed the fact that she would have been rendered less by it and her heart would have never been given freely. She loved her mate but could not contemplate the life offered nor live it so she ran. Her life has not been the best since and she has done what was necessary to stay alive although not always on the friendly side of the law. Khulril lost his heart when Chanda left and has been making his way back to her ever since. He could have done it in far quicker time but that would not have worked in his favour as the contraints of society would have played their part in him not being with Chanda as he wished. He knows she is his, he wants her, he wants everything from her and he could take it but he wants her to give herself to him. Let's not do this the easy way shall we?? Can Chanda ever allow herself to be caught? Will Khulril ever be able to let her go?

This entertaining, action-packed Sci-Fi alien vampire barbarian romance was a fascinating page-turner that kept me completely enthralled until the end. The plot has vivid scene descriptions & good world building with a slightly dark undertone. (It can be read as a standalone while being an excellent start to the “Khuldun Warriors” series) The characters are extremely interesting with strong-willed personalities & are inclined to be quite confrontational towards each other but they ultimately complement each other very well.
It is about: a possessive vampire warrior prince (a Khuldunian Dread Lord, Khalil) is determined to get his woman (a Jakkathian female, Chandiria aka Chandal) but she is just as determined to stay out of his reach until he captures her and discovers her secret.
There is: family issues, political intrigue, mates, obsession, defiance, secrets, jaw-dropping twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, adventure, action, defiance, confrontations, surprises, mayhem, manipulations, accusations, enemies, conflict, violence, compromises, steamy scenes & a well-deserved, satisfying HEA. I would recommend this Sci-Fi alien romance to people who enjoy this genre & look forward to more from this author.

I really enjoyed this well written story with plenty of family intrigue, action, and steam. My interest was grabbed quickly by the heroine being on the run from her mate for 18 years and keeping their twins a secret. The dynamics between Chanda and her children was complex. She has trained them to fit in with their father’s culture and trained them to be strong fighters.

From the initial description of the deadly wrath a Dread Lord is capable of and Chanda’s determination to avoid him, I was expecting Khulril to be an OTT villain that the author would redeem. I was pleasantly was surprised that he was reasonable in his anger and punishment considering his mate had ran away, unknowingly pregnant with his children and then successfully avoiding his efforts to find her. He was enraged at her actions and deception, yet he gained control of himself and went about attempting to woo her to voluntarily staying at his side versus forcing her to comply with his expectations.

This was a very nuanced storyline with some unexpected reveals and plot points. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I didn’t cate for it at all

This story should have been listed in Ellora’s Cave books. Definitely not a romance. I like to read a good sex scene in a well rounded story romance that furthers the relationship and story, but this story was nothing but fu**ing through the entire book. Not even making love. Just fu**ing. And always the same. Cu*t, mouth and as*. As always described. The story seemed to be secondary as well as the authors trying to make the book more of a shock culture. The authors were so focused on the same sex scenes through the entire story, that the actual plot was a low secondary concern which made the characters have no chemistry. No love. Just because the authors write it doesn’t make the reader feel the connection. Through the entire story the main female character was running from the main male character because of her fear of her father finding out. Yet she turned into a thief, smuggler and murderer and turns her son and daughter (twins) into the same. Absolutely no honor or anything to like. To say I was disgusted and irritated with this story, is an understatement. I won’t be reading any more of these authors stories. There are way to many other good stories out there to read instead of wasting time reading this garbage.

Chanda has been on the run from the Khuldunian warlord who tried to claim her almost twenty years ago, but her freedom will end when he finally catches up with her. She is a wanted criminal on his planet, her chances of survival are slim, but she is more concerned about her children and their chances of surviving. Khulril has finally caught up with his runaway mate, and he won't let her run again. What he doesn't expect to find are the twins who bear a strong resemblance to him, which can only mean that she was pregnant when she ran from him.
Fast paced and exciting alien/human romance with exciting battles, suspense, and plenty of steam. Great world building with plenty of twists in the plot made it hard for me to put this book down. Wonderful, well written lead characters engaged in sizzling, and sometimes amusing interactions. I also got a kick out of the twins and their contentious, sometimes down right funny interactions with the other characters. I think this is a must read, I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

His Secret Heir was one terrific read and the first book in what looks to be a super HOT new series.
This story was escapism at its best and really tweaked this voracious readers’ desire for these types of immersive reads. From page one I was pulled into the intricately imagined world of leads Khulril and Chanda unable to escape the extraordinary storytelling, energy laced writing and lustful encounters between the main characters.
Riveting and engaging full of action and intrigue this was one enthralling trip through the Sci-Fi universe with wonderfully crafted characters, flaws and all they brought the story to life.
Khulril has been hunting the mate who left him 18 years ago and the moment has arrived when she’s within his grasp. But Chanda has a couple of BIG surprises in store for the possessive alpha male when they finally reunite setting the stage for a fast paced narrative that unravels in all its palpable, titillating, raunchier than heck, imaginative feast for the senses.
Fantastic Read!!!

The customs and politics of different worlds come into play in this fated mates story. Khulril had been tracking and chasing down Chanda for years. Imagine his surprise when he finally catches her and discovers she'd had his twins 18 years ago. Chanda did not want to give up her freedom having escaped the control of the cruel, high caste political family she was raised in and not wanting to end up under the control of the Dread Lord. Males on her planet held all the power and control where on Khulril's planet, women are the ones in power. I really liked Khulril. He was upfront about what he wanted and he wanted his mate. I loved the twins, Aslana and Suhail. Their personalities were priceless and distinctly different. They will definitely be a force to be reckoned with when they get older. Chandra was a strong female character but I hated that even though she'd been out of her father's control for many years he still had an influence over her decisions. When the two of them got their HEA, my thought was it was about time. I would have loved an epilogue set in the future to find out what happens

I picked this story up because I have read many of Emma Alisyn’s previous works and enjoy the complexity and depth with which she writes. I found this story to be much darker than her others, with the darkness more pervasive throughout the story but particularly in the intimate scenes and the trigger warnings on this are troll at valid.

Both lead characters are flawed and deeply embroiled in different political scenes. Choices made nearly two decades ago have reverberated through time and flourish as the story continues. I wasn’t sure how I felt about both characters as the story started. They are both obsessive and end up more or less addicted to each other.

The story is dual POV (though significantly more female lead), well written, and deeply provoking. It’s the start of a new series, which is always interesting and I am curious to see where it goes from here.

Interesting story, cool alien ideas, and I liked male lead Khulril; he’s weak when it comes to Chanda, but thinks of more than just what’s shown on the surface. Unfortunately, I didn’t like female lead Chanda, any of the side characters, or the sexual scenes. Chanda is a selfish, thoughtless, cold character; morally deficient, she has her reasons and I do appreciate her strength, but I just wasn’t a fan. I do enjoy the whole mates scenario, but I just didn’t feel the connection between Khulril and Chanda; very passionate between them, but just based on lust. The scenes between them are mostly punishing, rough sexual acts; very rape-y, and the violence between them just doesn’t work for me. The story does take some interesting turns, but I would’ve liked more action to the story. Overall, the story is well-written and entertaining; I really enjoy the whole alien/space theme, but a lot of it just wasn’t my thing. I’m going with a 3 rating.

I really enjoyed this book, it had some strong sex scenes that might disturb some and some views that women are a commodity but overall I like it. Chanda is from a very high ranking political family and is used as a bargaining chip by them to further political issues. But when she is taken aggressively by her new mate who she finds out is a Prince this is not what she wants and runs away and finds out later she is pregnant with his twins. Prince Khulril has found his bond mate and will do anything to keep her but when she escapes he chases after her and it’s not till she is betrayed by her trusted adviser that he finally gets her back after 18yrs only to find out she has had there twins Aslana and Suhail. How does it all turn out between them and with so many obstacles that they need to overcome can they be a family and have a future together.

Wow, this is my first book from this author and I was blown away. Chanda grew up with being controlled by men her whole life. Just to get away she make a deal with Khulril and for a few months they were happy. They when things started to cave in she only knows how to run away. She finds that she's pregnant with his twins, raises them and then 18 years later Khulril finds them. He will not ever let her go again. He will find that she's made some enemies in the time they have been apart but he will protect her to the end. Will he finally convince Chanda that she holds all the power? Will they ever get their HEA? Can he ever forgive her for running away and hiding his twins from him? A dark, suspenseful, steamy, amazing story. I look forward to the next book in this series. I enjoyed this book. The story was entertaining and it kept me engaged. The world building is solid and I found myself intrigued. The chemistry really sizzled and things get steamy. I really liked Khulril and actually felt bad for him. I can't say I ever got to the point where I liked Chandra but by the end of the book I thought she was ok. In the spirit of full disclosure, I had no idea going in that this book was the conclusion of this couple's story and while I admit to occasionally feeling like I missed something; I thought it read very easily as a standalone, second chance romance. This book offers some very, very interesting secondary characters that I would love to see get their own books. This is my frank, freely posted review.

Chanda is the author's main character that causes a reader confusion. Confusion in the beginning was due to her supposed strong woman somewhat feminist personality...until the Dread Lord comes into the mix. Her mate to be that she runs from in the past, but can not truly evade. She becomes puddy when she merely hears his voice which he knows he has this affect on her. All of this for what? Run but can't hide. Run your own business on your ship with a small crew, but easily get overrun by your enemy? One would wish the author could have taken a different angle in the beginning of the story. I honestly couldn't finish because I felt let down way too early.

I did enjoy this book. I found the story different from what I usually like (I'm not a big secret baby person). But I like how it was put together with the older kids. The matriarchic society was very interesting, though it still felt like in the book all the power was with the male main character (Khulrul) so it wasn't really that important. Which is how I felt with some of the story overall. There were interesting or supposedly important things hinted at and drawn out. And then it felt like they were just dropped or glossed over. In the end all this drama came to a dud ending and I felt a bit left wanting.

I second, and third, and fourth along with the other reviews about our heroine and hero Chanda and Khurhil. This novel is a slow burn to inferno type. If it was all action from page one, you might ( gasp ) lose interest. ( that can happen, but, not in this book!!! )

If you are wondering what this book is about, in the blurb about it, it says: “ A matebond born in blood and betrayal. An obsessed alien warlord prince who will hunt her across galaxies rather than let her go. . .”

Chanda is on the run trying to escape her fate, the mate to the Dread Lord, along their run these two get close, and the closer they get, the more they don’t fight fate!!! Thoroughly enjoyable!!!

Chanda has been on the run for eighteen years. Running from her father, her lover, and half the galaxy. She has been a thief, a fighter, and a mother. Now she has been betrayed and caught by her Khuldunian ex-lover, Khalil, who is a bit peeved that she left his bed and has been avoiding him for eighteen years. Wait until he meets the twins he doesn't know he has. Now she is going to have to pay for all her crimes. Now he has her back and he is never letting her go again - if she doesn't kill him that is.

Lots of fighting, hot sex, and hot sex that seems like fighting.

I copied this comment from the official blurb: "PLEASE NOTE: Some of the steamy scenes may be triggering to some readers for slightly dark themes. Those chapters may be skipped without impacting the overall story."
So if your all good with that then you will also find the storyline and characters very interesting, like I did.
It is quite fascinating how the different races survive and compete. I liked the lead in to the main character of the next book and now I really want to find out that planet and peoples story, looks like there is another strong woman on the way to give them hell too! Recommended for readers of steamy romance.
