Fun fact #1: Tequila is my kryptonite. Fun fact #2: Tequila was the main drink at my new job’s Halloween party. Not-so-fun-fact: The Adonis-like masked stranger I slept with at the party turns out to be my new boss.
Wait, it’s getting even better. Not only is the irresistible William Coupe my new boss, he’s also my best friend Heather’s big brother and the boy I loved more than anything during my teenage years.
His gorgeous blue eyes made him the object of every girl’s fantasy in our entire school. Yet although I always had a crush on him, I promised Heather to never fall for William.
And now I’m working as his assistant, obeying his orders, trying my best. Which should be easy, considering this demanding grump treats me like he’s the biggest bosshole on the planet. But… when we’re alone, it’s a completely different story. That’s when the butterflies in my stomach go crazy. That’s when we spend passionate nights in his office. That’s when I start to believe there could be HEA in the cards for us after all.
But right when I discover that I’m pregnant, I learn that William is looking for a new assistant. And Heather finds out about our affair. Do some things never change or will fate turn out to be on my side this time?
Readers note: Full-length Billionaire Enemies-to-Lovers Romance with a Secret Baby and a Happily Ever After.
I really wanted to like this book. They are similar to books in Harlequin world but it just felt off. The hero was pretty boring and he was fake dating another woman which I hate. I didn't trust her either. April, the heroine, was okay and I was rooting for her but the hero just fell short. I didn't feel his love for the heroine or even hers for him really. The ukulele scene at the end was cheesy and not funny and then bam the book is over. Just wanted to feel the romance. It was definitely lacking.
2-2.5- the chemistry was good, however the old expression, "Chemistry isn't everything," rings true.
Plot- April is starting at a new company on Halloween. She goes to their big party the first night in town and sleeps with a masked man. William ends up not only being her boss, he is also her childhood bully and best friends brother. Add in apublityfake relationship with a socialite and you have complications galore.
Great heat between April and William. However, everything with the Carter family and Heather didn't seem well thought out. The ending was very garbled. Her little complication also seemed like an afterthought and wasn't given the attention that sort of plotline deserves.
Not terrible, but it wasn't the best office romance. The additions of bully, best friends brother, fake relationship and secret baby seemed to be jut attempts to get this to fit multiple categories.
Both main characters were boring, the plot was boring and the ending was boring. There was no spark in any of these aspects, including the conflict. The antagonistic character was kind of pathetic and the “twist” wasn’t that surprising. The story was more told then showing the reader.
If quick boring romance is your go to, I suppose I’d recommend this book to you. .
How's this for an opening....April, a new hire, arrives at work a day early to get a feel for the landscape of the office. Finds out there's a Halloween party tonight, but that's not a problem since it will give her a chance to meet and mix with her colleagues. She runs into a cocky Zorro who flirts outrageously before grabbing her hand to get out of there. Costumes come flying off and she has the most magnificent sex of her life. He's gorgeous, attentive and what memories they make. Well, not so fast...Zorro is her new boss and it gets worse...he's not only her boss, he's her best friend's big brother, her arch nemesis bully from childhood, William! It's a great concept and for most of the book, it's clever and really cute. But the bottom falls out when William becomes a cardboard character,TSTL. He seduces her when no one's around, but belittles her in front of her co-workers. He runs hot and cold, never really giving any concern to how she feels. One of my most hated story lines is a "fake relationship with another woman while the girlfriend has to watch." This one was poorly executed because William seems to care more for Charlotte than for his April. In fact, knowing the scandal was going to break, he doesn't take the time to go everywhere to find April to warn her; no, he thinks he'll handle it tomorrow. As I said, TSTL! They don't really have a happy ending because we don't see it. It's a matter of "You love me?" "Yes! I love you!" Sweet! The end. It could have been so much better.
Heather and April had been friends since childhood. April was confused as why Heather and her brother William never got along and fought all the time. It was crazy that once April came back from college that April started working at William’s company. I don’t know how she could put of with William and the way he treated her. Of course the Halloween party that April attended for the company before she started working didn’t help things. I thought it was funny that William’s employees had a mood chart and bets on how he would be for a week. It was crazy because it was like William and April had a love hate relationship. I was always wondering what was going to happen next. I couldn’t believe how cruel the Carter family was, especially to each other. I am sure William didn’t expect what would happen with his business and the Carter family. I enjoyed the book and encourage you to read it. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
I have read a lot of this author's books and always enjoy them, love her style! This book is definitely one of my favorites, I could not put it down! I was invested in this couple and couldn't wait to see how they were going to get their HEA! April and William have one hot night together at a Halloween costume party and are attracted to one another, neither knows who the other is as April is new to the company, but they also do not realize that their past has a connection too. When they meet at the company, April walks in and William advises her that even though she will be doing double duty as his PA until one is hired, no one is to know about their night! These two have a slow burn, snarky relationship that was a page turner, I loved them together. Turns out that William is April's best friends older brother who tormented her growing up... talk about angst!! This is definitely a one click must read as you will not be disappointed.

This one had me all over the place. April has been best Friends with Heather most of her life, and Heather‘s older brother William bullied them both relentlessly. William hung around with a crew of bullies, and basically made their lives miserable. April wound up studying abroad, and moving back for a new job. Unbeknownst to her, her boss is William. Their first interaction is at a company Halloween costume party, where they hook up without realizing who the other person is. She figures it out as she is sneaking out afterwards, when she sees the photographs he has of his family. William is basically a jerk to everyone, and he is no different to April. While she was hired for the marketing department, somehow she is also expected to be his interim assistant as he keeps chasing them off. Honestly that part was a little bit annoying because he kept treating her like trash and kept telling her her job was to be his shadow. He kept saying it was her job and that she was failing at it, but that was not actually what she was hired for. He publicly ripped into her when she stopped at the IT department to get her email account fixed, for daring to step away from his side. I actually had to put the book down and move on to another book, because it did not seem remotely feasible that someone that had been so mercilessly bullied by someone both as a child and currently as an adult would also swoon and flirt or kiss him so easily. The entire premise seemed completely implausible to me. At least not without him doing some major work to show he’s not a jerk and deserves her. But I digress. Eventually I picked it back up and continued reading. There’s a ton of back-and-forth, hot and cold, and all kinds of drama. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I was going to initially, but I was disappointed with the abrupt ending. A simple “I love you April “and “I love you too William “ and that’s it. Nothing about how they work their relationship out, or anything at all about them actually being in a relationship at this point, or how about the pregnancy at all? It all seemed a little anti-climactic.
The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with! William and April know each other because he is her best friend's older brother but her best friend Heather do not particularly like her brother, so she was told not to fall for him. April sweet, intelligent, just coming back from the states after being abroad for several years and will be working with her best friend’s brother. William sexy as all get out boss, brother April’s best friend, and dressed as Zorro for the Halloween office party (yes, she sleeps with him only to realize he is her crush, best friend brother). She was hired to be junior marketing executive but ends up doing her job as well as being his assistant. William isn’t an easy boss to work for, demanding, a jerk most times and isn’t sure how to act towards her now that they slept together. So, he does what every man do hide how/what they are feeling until their hand is forced so in the meantime he runs hot and then cold towards her which of course is very confusing. Then when he has a pretend relationship with another just to get a contract, he hurts her breaking her heart in the process. The chemistry is insane, and the magnetic pull have both of their feelings for one another all over the place. That one night William gave her the part of himself but where does it lead them, will he continue to be a bosshole, where his employees takes bets on his mood for the day, can he learn to be a little more human, why do they not get along as siblings, and can their love/hate relationship lead them to happiness?
April has been out of the country and is now home and beginning her new job. She discovers she started just in time to attend the company Halloween costume party that night. She meets a guy and they have a one-night-stand. It was definitely a bad move for so very many reasons, the more critical being that he is her new boss, William Coupe, CEO. He is also her best friend Heather’s brother and had promised Heather she would never fall for him! (She had a crush on him when she was a teen and he bullied her back then, so not sure why she didn’t recognize him. She must have been almost comatose drunk.)
April is temporarily William’s assistant, but he is not easy to work for. He’s very moody and demanding. There are many other complications to endure at work, but the big event is when April finds out she is pregnant. How will William and Heather react when they find out the facts?
There were so many implausible things that bothered me about this story. Why would you go to a party and sleep with a co-worker you may sometime have to face at the office? April was too reckless for me to like her. She made bad and worse decisions all the way through. And as for the sister getting to dictate who a grown up woman can date or love, that goes out the window once those teen years are over. If their adult friendship is based on dictating the other person’s life, then that is not a healthy relationship. So will April get her HEA with William? Grab your copy and see how it all resolves.
April gets a new job in the states after having been overseas for several years. She meets a dashing Zorro at the company Halloween party. They end up back at his place. In the morning she discovers that he is not only her boss but her best friend's brother: the boy who she not only crushed on but bullied her when they were in school. He turns into a real bosshole. One minute he is mean and belittling and the next he is complementing her on a job well done. They do seem to have great chemistry. She starts to get whiplash with his mood swings. April tries to keep this all a secret from her friend, his sister. The plot gets a little more complicated when he tries to win a powerful family's marketing contract. He pretends to be the boyfriend of the daughter who of course would like it to be more than fake. This breaks April's heart and then he replaces her with a new assistant and sends her to her real job in Marketing. Up until this point in the story the cadence and flow was just right. Then the story got a little stilted. The ending was HEA but it felt rushed and incomplete. Overall I enjoyed the book. I just thought the last quarter of it was vague in places and left me needing more information. The beginning was just right.

April is she’s just returned to the country and is starting a new job and goes to the company’s Halloween party to meet some of he new coworkers. She meets a handsome masked man and they both feel an intense physical attraction and become intimate while they are both wearing masks. April leaves the next morning while the man is still sleeping and realizes he looks familiar. When she starts work she realizes her boss, William, was her sexual partner and her best friend’s brother. William had been a bully and treated her badly when they were younger and he and his sister were not close. When William recognizes her, he decides to keep things strictly professional, and treats her harshly and he humiliates her in front of her co-workers when he berates her. However, they do go closer and William becomes involved in a business scheme with not her woman. Will April and William be able to overcome their past, survive his fake business relationship, and find happiness together?
I found this story somewhat confusing at times and I had trouble seeing April’s relationship with him grow. He had been mean to her when they were younger and still was often nasty to her when she was his assistant but she cared for him. The ending seemed somewhat abrupt, had William really become a better person?

This book was a whirlwind of emotions. I loved the banter at their initial meeting, albeit a drunken encounter.
Then when reality set in, it seemed all bets were off and the gloves came on, and both of them were all in to fight each other each step of the way.
This is one of those books where you really REALLY wanna throttle both of then at different times to knock some sense into them, or knock the stubbornness out of their system.
But what this book really does is unravel their personalities, feelings, and conflicts one moment at a time, and as that happens, it’s a beautiful story.
This book was everything a book should be and then more. I enjoyed the movie references and the growth that the characters had to endure to get to their ending. And whatever you do - don’t stop reading! Mia does this thing that makes you wanna enjoy the book to the very last paragraph. And it’s a thing of beauty each time.
April is back in her hometown for a job and catches back up with her best friend. She happens to start work on the day of the Halloween party and she meets a guy that draws her interest. Its not long before her and the masked stranger leave together and share an amazing night. Its not until her official first day that she learns that the man she was with is her boss and her best friend's older brother. The same guy the tormented her as a kid. William is stunned when he realizes that the women he was with is his sister's friend and his new employee. Sparks fly between them as they both try to figure a way past what happened between them. Its not long before April learns that something more came from their time together. Will they admit their feelings for one another? Can they be together?
This is a great story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

This is the story of April and William. She was out of the states for some years and now is back home. She got a job in the company of her best friend’s brother, William. She began to work the day of the Halloween party. She was charmed by the Zorro, that was William and ended sleeping with him. When she realized that the man she was with was her all time crush, the same one that she promised her friend never fall, and the CEO of the company she was out of her mind. She was working as his assistant now and he is a complete pain, demanding and difficult to work with. But what would happen now when she discovered that after that night she got pregnant. The recipe for disaster. How William and her friend will react about the unexpected surprise? Very nice story. Nice plot and characters. Highly recommended.

April and William grew up together; in fact, April’s best friend is William’s sister. When April comes back from university abroad and starts a job at a marketing firm, who would have thought her new job would be with William (who may or may not end up being the handsome, masked stranger she slept with her first unofficial day in the office).
Surprise! Weeks after that night, April finds out she’s pregnant.
Pros: - 🔥 scenes - A few interesting twists - A hot bossman - Fun side characters
While this was a fun read, some criticisms I have: - Needs some additional editing - Horribly abrupt (though happy) ending - There are some holes in this story - There’s a bully component that I’m not sure needed to be a part of this book. - William doesn’t even think twice about April being pregnant. - The climax of the story was a bit muddled.
April starts her new job at Illuminate as a junior marketing executive but ends up doing double duty as the CEO's assistant in the interim. Thinking she will get a head start, she shows up on Friday only to find out there is a Halloween costume party that night she's expected to attend, so she calls her best friend Heather hoping she has a costume she can wear. April meets a guy at the party and ends up sleeping with him only to find out later that's her new boss and her bestie's brother and the guy she crushed on as a teen. William Coupe, CEO, is not an easy guy to work for. He's demanding and flat out a jerk at work and one to stay away from because she and Heather had a sacred oath. But of course nothing is ever easy especially when April finds out she is pregnant. What happens when both Will and Heather find out?
When Zorro meets Rose What would happen if you had a one-night-stand with your boss? Without knowing he was your boss? Or knowing that he was your best friend's older brother? I loved the interaction between the stuffy William and the closed-off April. They almost seemed destined to be together at a young age. April was best friend's with William's younger sister, Heather. He used to tease her and pick on her relentlessly. Everyone knows what that means, he really loved her. Unfortunately they both couldn't act on it. Now that they had a one-night-stand, they really couldn't or shouldn't act on it. He is her boss, after all. I really enjoy Mia Faye's stories about falling in love with the bosses. She makes them funny, poignant, and really sexy. This story was no different!

I really enjoyed reading, Unexpected Surprise by Mia Faye because it was a very steamy and intense story about William and April. Loved the chemistry between William and April. It was great at first especially at a work party, but then April finds out she spent the night with her boss. Who was someone she knew a long time ago and she didn't like him at all. William's character is a broody boss man who makes April's work life miserable. But on the other hand, William has a very hard time staying away from April. April's character liked to test William and I thoroughly enjoyed that. I would highly recommend reading this story. It was very steamy and it had a bunch of drama in it. I also love the cover. I can totally picture William looking like this.

She had me with the blue eyes on the cover There’s no way any self-respecting female could resist the cover model’s eyes! Surprisingly Ms. Faye accomplished even more with her addictive story about April and William. She’d been best friends with his sister since forever, and he and his friends had “bullied” them forever. When she returned from her studies abroad, she ended up unknowingly going to work where William became her boss. Again he turned out to be a complete unadulterated jerk! There is a big gap in the story in that there’s no explanation of how and why they eventually got together. The simple “I love you” really doesn’t do it since we never read anything about any kind of personal relationship. However, the book is still a good read if you’re not a stickler for the details.

A beautiful story of enemies who have become lovers. A Halloween office party brought together two childhood acquaintances with a huge misunderstanding that led to adulthood. William knew April as his sister's best friend, who had tried to protect her from his friends, but everything went wrong, but he didn't know how to express his feelings. April always felt that William was a bully, even after he started working as a personal assistant. On the night of the Halloween party at the office they had a one night stand and the result was a beautiful gift. There were so many obstacles in the way, but William was the happiest of his life when he was with April. I enjoyed reading a great story with HEA. Worth reading.

This book has more than one unexpected surprise. Let’s start at the beginning where William doesn’t recognize April whom he grew up with. Then throw in another surprise when a chance meet with a member of the Carter family. Yes they are the big deal in town. The job offer could set his company in The Who’s who. Then that’s when all the drama ensues. Now you try to obtain the unobtainable. The schemes that ensure after this is one for the book or should we say this book. You get to meet fake people with fake relationships. A surprise surprise. A superstar, a big misunderstanding, a coming to Jesus moment and the love that trumps all.

April Simmons moves from the UK to begin a new job at Iluminate and attends a Halloween office party. Sparks fly when a masked William Coupe begins talking to April. April has no idea who William is and they have a one night stand. On her first day at work, April is surprised to learn that she is temporarily William's assistant. Not only is William her new boss but William is also her best friend's brother (who tormented April in high school). April navigates a work love/hate relationship with William while fighting her attraction to him. This is a steamy page turner with plenty of drama and more surprises. I enjoyed their story but do wish there was an epilogue as I thought the ending was abrupt.
