With a prime new position opening up at her company, Macy Crosswhite has come up with a sure-fire plan to beat Ross Nelson, the only other employee qualified for the job. But when the boss announces they won’t be competing for the promotion, Macy has to come up with a new strategy. How is she supposed to collaborate with her archrival to plan the best Halloween Bash the city has ever seen when he keeps tricking her with wicked treats?

Ross Nelson has secretly been attracted to Macy Crosswhite since meeting her on the job. Too bad the curvy event planner is so focused on her career that she’s lost sight of what makes life worth living—good friends, great times, and off-the-charts chemistry. When tasked with planning an important last-minute event, he must decide what matters more—climbing the corporate ladder or climbing into bed with the girl of his dreams.

If Ross can convince Macy to get into the spirit of things, maybe a some big city Halloween magic will convince her love isn’t so spooky after all.

This is an entertaining short story to the Halloween Steam series. This one brings Macy and Ross's story. It's an enemies to lovers romance with likable characters who have a steamy connection. It's well written and is an enjoyable read.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

EmKay Connor joins the multi-author Halloween Steam series with the entertaining, steamy, short rivals-to-lovers romance. Junior event planner Macy is gunning for a promotion; but her boss not feeling like she knows how to be a team player, challenges her to work alongside her rival to plan a Halloween event in a week's time. Ross Nelson has been into Macy since they started working together at BonTemps and being paired up in this Halloween challenge is the perfect opportunity for him to convince her that he wants her and not her job. This is an entertaining read with two very likeable, engaging characters, and a wonderful supporting cast. A fantastic addition to this fabulous Halloween-themed series!

First things first; I like the cover of this book!
City magic is a novella in the ‘’Halloween steam’’ collection.
This story is short, fast paced and an enjoyable read. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters likeable and the storyline enjoyable. After being burnt by loving a co worker, Macy isn’t looking for it to happen again. When she is forced to work as a team with Ross, will she give him a chance?
The chemistry between Ross and Macy is clear to see and I liked them together. I have to admit, I wasn’t really a fan of Macy. Her attitude annoyed me.
I really liked the ending and the epilogue for this story.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is an enjoyable read.

Macy comes up with a plan to beat out Ross for the upcoming new position, except the boss has other ideas. He wants them collaborating to plan the best Halloween bash, how is she going to keep it professional working so close to him?

Ross has wanted Macy since he met her, she so focused on her career she does not seem notice. He will have to decide which is more import Macy or the promotion.

The book was really good but felt it left a lot up in the air.

This story starts off a bit confusing at first, but then once you understand the characters mind set, it is easily interpreted. Love the co-worker rival, or is it just misunderstood feelings. A fun concept of a Halloween party with a twist that is sure to be a wonderful night for many reasons.

Really enjoyed Macy and Ross’s story and their need to work together on a Halloween party. Macy’s friends were great in terms of supporting her and giving Ross encouragement and advice.

Ross is so very patient

Macy and Ross work together but because she's been burned before she ignores the pull between them. Ross wants his curvy co-worker and enlists her roommates to help him win her.

I liked the characters and the different levels to the story. The ending however did not wrap up the story in my opinion and did not work for me personally.

What the heck?!

I was enjoying reading this book even though it was from an omniscient viewpoint. Just getting into the story when BAM! it suddenly ended after Chapter Three. Obviously, this book was not ready to publish as it is grossly incomplete.

Incomplete book.

I was enjoying the story only to turn the page and the author’s note. I am very disappointed since I bought it.

Not Bad!

Well written characters and well developed story! Cut off with no really good ending! Trying to get more attention to the series!

Cute and sweet. I loved this one. It might seem a bit rushed at the end but the feel of not wanting to wait anymore drove the story. The characters were fascinating. I loved this fun little romp.

So disappointed

Where is the rest of the book? It stops as far as I can tell after the setup intro for the book. Where is the rest of the story?
