I can’t get GR to reconcile my 2 reviews for this book, so here’s a 2nd review that says the same as the original.
Despite my big-time love for the second book in this series, Melt for You, and my eagerness to read this one, I can't recommend it. I didn't find the premise plausible or the principal characters well characterized and/or believable (much less likeable), and the plot seems to recycle itself over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over....
Kimber DeSanto, a little known fashion designer and our heroine, is left at the altar on what is supposed to be the most wonderful day of her life. Her groom has a total meltdown (as does his family) just before the ceremony is set to begin and the day ends in disaster. Hard on its heels, she learns her father (with whom she's VERY close, but hasn't visited or seen in five years) has a massive heart attack and is hospitalized, on the verge of death.
Kimber (she didn't like Kimberly so she abbreviated it. As one does.), frantically makes plans to return to her father in Italy, but she gets bumped from her flight for no discernible reason. A handsome stranger whom she incorrectly assumed was a paparazzi (her groom's family is wealthy and famous) and therefor loudly and offensively 'told off' after he very randomly propositioned her - offers her his first class seat instead. With a caveat.
The handsome stranger/not paparrazo wants her sketch book - filled to the brim with her ideas for a new fashion line. Oh, poor Kimber. What to do? He's a handsome, well dressed stranger kindly offering you a first class seat so that you can see your dying father before he passes away. What should you do? Obviously, you’re worried he’ll steal your sketchbook and and designs because there’s the HIGHLY UNLIKELY AND IN NO WAY BELIEVABLE POSSIBILITY he’ll be a dastardly fashion sketch stealing villain? Hmmm...tough call. Happens all the time.
The not-an-actual paparazzo identification.
The insults directed at a total stranger.
The random bump off an international flight you paid for.
The strange hot guy you insulted offering you a free first class seat.
The negotiation over a sketch pad which the guy barely got a look at.
Oh, no, those things actually never happen. So you can see how she struggles with what to do. Anyway, I digress. She gives him the notebook so she can see her Papa. (spoiler alert: HE IS A DASTARDLY FASHION SKETCH STEALING VILLAIN). Oh shit.
Anyway, this train wreck of a plot sets this ridiculous story in motion and it doesn’t really get any better from here.
Matteo Moretti is the hottie she insults at the airport - before and after he offers her his seat. But fortunately for Kimber, he likes her - ESPECIALLY when she acts like a total batshit nutball. I’m just going to leave it at that because it essentially sums up his character. He makes absolutely no sense - as a good guy, as a villain, or potential love interest for Kimber. At any point.
Suffice it to stay although all of the above takes place within the first quarter of the book, it goes from bad to worse from here on out. Nothing and no one in this story makes sense, and it’s a disappointing follow up to the novel that preceded it.
Very disappointing, unfunny and boring.
