“What if to defeat a monster you too have to become a monster?”
This is a nail-biting, immersive military sci-fi thriller-I couldn't put the book down! Hugely entertaining, and enthralling from the beginning! It’s one of those books which you genuinely don't want to put down because you continually want to know what happens next.
I’m exhausted with this phenomenal fast paced, thought provoking, action filled and nerve wracking sequel series to the equally phenomenal Omega Taskforce series.
A promising continuation of high profile characters, edge of seat combat, brutal hand to hand assaults, gripping and full of tension mysteries, intriguing and suspenseful. The shocking discoveries and stressful situations puts the main protagonist between the sword and the wall; the inner conflict, together with the space station’s conflict has Reeves in a constant battle between moral decisions and a desire for equal justice. There is a strong character building in many characters, main and secondary. It’s a pleasure to see how they personalities evolve. Also a great feature is the diplomatic side of the story, the politics involved, that puts on more brakes to the Commander’s manoeuvres on his space station. This story reminded me of a TV series, Babylon-5, one of my favourite shows!
Ogden manages to capture my attention completely, and not wanting to put down the book because there is no respite for the protagonists, and of course nor for me! It’s one event after another, one mystery after another, with so many turns, I was giddy with excitement and so much information, I just wanted to keep on going, wanting to quickly see how it was going to unfold, and at the same time not wanting the book to end! It’s these few great stories that make me lament that it is a series and not a huge stand-alone book. Or, wishing I had the complete series and to binge-read it! Lol.
I can’t wait to read more from Gareth Ogden. Thankfully, only 15 days left for Shadows of War #2 release!
I highly recommend this new series, sequel to Omega Taskforce series, which I’d recommend to read it too, although there are enough mentions of importance in this instalment.

Descendant of War is Mass Effect: Renegade Interrupt - The Book. Commander Reeves is a guns-blazing human Space Navy officer, and also the distant descendant of characters from one of Ogden's other series. When he goes too far in pursuit of pirates, he's exiled to command of Conclave/The Abyss, a massive space station that servers as neutral territory for the six civilized races, and also a hive of scum and villainy for all their criminal elements. Along with his XO, Major Katee Kane, he has to bring justice to the void of space at the point of a blaster pistol and his plasma trench knife. The situation goes from bad (human extremists out for him personally, local criminals, idiot diplomats) to awful when mankind's ancient enemy returns through rifts in shadow space, threatening terrible revenge, which only Reeves can stop. See more in books 2-6!
So, I did not expect crackling writing or originality from the description or the price point, and even so, I feel let down. The sole bright spot is that the background details are not directly copied from the inspirations of Babylon 5 and Mass Effect. Enough is shuffled to make it not a carbon copy, though the aliens are still very much "planet of hats". But everything else is a study in artlessness. At least it's a quick read.

Fixed some issues in the first series, this is excellent.
First to Mr. ogden finally chairs on a spaceship, bravo. This book was fast paste, a continuation from the previous series with New and very interesting characters. The name of that series was the Omega task force, if you have not read it please do so, you do not know what you are missing. My other reviews will indicate that I am not a Kool-Aid drinker of this authors. If I like the series I will write what I find great about it if I do not I will also put that down in my pros. This book had plenty of action from beginning to end, I read it in one sitting. Basically it’s a buddy book which I happen to like the captain, and his first officer. There is a lot of humor between the two. There’s also plenty of action, intrigue, a little light on the science-fiction considering it was placed 1000 years in the future of the last series. Even though the main protagonist Mr. Dalton reed is own character he is not a Lucas Sterling nor is first officer sidekick a Mercedes-Banks, my heroes. I usually read my books through Kindle unlimited but I was so impressed with the last series I purchased this one. I was not disappointed. The other plus is that it did not end on a cliffhanger, The story stands on its own. I urge you to read it you will not be disappointed, very enjoyable.

Its been a 1000 years and the human race has been growing and living its life and having fun with its neighboring aliens. Then the story opens with the maverick Dalton Reeves who ends up being assigned to The Abyss after one too many times not following orders. So its a normal story where we get to meet and learn about Dalton Reeves and is trusty XO as they begin to take over the station with a horrible rep. Gotta say there first day was a riot and the good news is that they survived and kept me entertained. Then things go sideways and the fun really begins as the series is setup. good entertaining story that kept me reading it all in one go to see how it all turns out. A few surprises and a good introduction to all the main characters and aliens in the series.. Cannot wait to see what happens next.

This book comes with a new author (to me) and a new series. Haven't really started a new series in quite some time. This one will be one that I continue with since it's turning out to be pretty interesting.
Right off, out main character is a Commander Dalton Reeves commands the Destroyer, a starship of the Bastion Navy. He's not fighting a war right now, just trying to stop some space pirates from fleeing Bastion space into another alien species territory. Commander Reeves is a very aggressive Captain, sometimes overly aggressive in the opinion of his XO, Major Katee Kane. She's there to try and reign him in when he decides to go a little too far, but she's not always successful. They've been together for quite some time so she knows full well some of Commander Reeves actions before he sometimes takes them.
This time, she can't get him to stop. He's getting ready to pursue these Bukkan pirates into Quarr space and nothing is going to stop him. The Quarr normally do not tolerate incursions into their space. They usually act quick and decisive and ask questions later. So, as soon as the Destroyer crosses the line into Quarr space, they pick up a Quarr patrol heading straight for them. Still, Reeves figured he has some time so the went to work with his boarding party including himself and his XO. Well, now should know that you're not reading a story based on real space warfighting. No Captain of a space vessel would go on a boarding party mission and to take his second in command is also pretty stupid. I don't consider authors who right this kind of story that knowledgeable in military tactics. Oh, it makes for an exciting book, but it's not the way it should or would be done.
So, Commander Reeves storms this pirate vessel, finds it Captain and does what he has to do. Then he has to face off with the Quarr Captain of the patrol that has now locked weapons on his ship. The Quarr and humans have fought wars before, but now there's a peace between all six of the alien civilizations occupying this part of the galaxy. Commander Reeves is betting that the Quarr patrol Captain won't start a war over this incident. An a big incident it becomes for his Commander who is Commodore Jana. She has attempted to cover for Reeves aggressive actions on a number of occasions, but the Quarr filed a formal objection to his latest actions.
So, it Commander Dalton Reeves is given two choices. One, he can resign his commission and leave the Navy or two, he can accept an assignment outside the Navy as commander of Concord Station. Concord Station is a huge 20-kilometer-long space station placed in the middle of nowhere space between the six different alien civilizations. This is a diplomatic facility where all the civilizations can supposedly sit down and discuss their grievances and hopefully, stave off another war. Diplomacy is not one of Reeves strong suites, in fact, he barely knows the word. But, this is the assignment he has, so he's going to make the best of it. At least he will be the Commander and operations of the station will be his sole responsibility.
This is where the rest of the book takes place and takes off. This isn't going to be a cushy job. Concord Station also has another name and that is "The Abyss". Most people assigned consider it a deep, dark hole from which they will never come out of alive or otherwise. It is usually staffed by military personnel who have are on their very last assignment before being thrown out the door. Supposedly, no one every "volunteers" for the Abyss. As to the civilians aboard the space station, these are usually the dregs of society. it is a known place of illicit gambling and any other vice you might know of. It's definitely not a vacation spot. The now previous Commander was a vile and corrupt as most of the other criminals that called the Abyss home so the new Commander, Dalton Reeeves has his work cut out for him!
This is an interesting story mixing six different species together who some how have a common language and understanding about how to do things. That's quite an accomplishment in itself. The character development of Dalton Reeves is pretty good; he's got a background that is a very big part of the story although he doesn't know about all of it. So, book one just gets everything set and gets us ready to go into more details as to how and why Earth was destroyed thousands of years ago, but is there a way to change all that. I don't know, but I'm going to read more to find out.

Spin off sequel to the Omega Taskforce series, this takes place 1,000 later and features Dalton Reeves, the only living descendant of the infamous and Sterling and Banks. While he is not opposed to getting his hands dirty, bending the rules, or even a little vigilante justice, he draws the line at the ruthlessness employed by his ancestors. That doesn't stop his opponents from lumping him up with them - and boy does he seem to have enemies coming from every direction. Good thing he has a super competent XO and some other surprising support on his side.
This leans more Babylon 5 gritty than Deep Space Nine too clean polished spit and shine. Actually, even though it is a station and not a ship, it almost has more of Battlestar Galactica feel: scuffed floors, grime on the walls, dripping reclamation systems and all, with a little bit of Firefly's cowboys in space (which if you a fan of Ogden should be no surprise).
This is book 1 of 6 in the Descendant of War series and while it does spend some time setting the stage and introducing a rather large cast of characters, the action never lets up. Expect plenty of conflict frm interpersonal, to ship board fights to space battles. You don't have to read Omega Taskforce books to enjoy this series, but I do think it adds depth to it, both in understanding the history of various factions in the fight and in the parallels between Reeve's story and that of Sterling and Banks.

Pure joy one again !!
The author G. J. Ogden continues the six books series that started as The Omega Taskforce which the human race barely survived against a race of powerful aliens which never surrender and don’t take prisoners, it was a brutal war which took the Omega task force including AI’s to finally turn the tide and push the remaining enemy out of the known universe.
One thousand years have passed the big war was pretty much forgotten and the human race have expended across the universe discovering new races which not always got along so a big space station was build on the borders that connects all six to create a safe zone for politics and trades.
Not to disclose more this is where I’ll stop, I will say that the writer got a great imagination, his stories are always full with action, unexpected twists and are so simple to understand making them pure joy.
As always Doug Tisdale Jr. narration is always done perfectly without missing a beat.
This is the first of a series all I can hope that I will receive the rest for reviewing.
I absolutely recommend this author books to read or to listen especially if you want to enjoy a good story without brain breaking science which is great for listening everywhere including while driving.

Our hero is considered something of a failure for his unorthodox approach and casual disregard for orders. But there just might be more under the surface than anyone expects, even our hero.
This is book one of a new series, so a perfect place to start.
I found this book to be well written, easy to read and just plain fun. Our hero clearly has too much on his plate and that is evident from page one and it only gets worse. The story moves and a good pace which keeps our hero constantly moving and the reader constantly turning pages to see what comes next. The characters in this book are also well developed, particularly our hero who is, of course, the star of the show. There were also some interesting support cast and I am hoping to see more of them in the future. Overall, a very enjoyable start and I look forward to watching the series developed.

If you have read any of the authors previous books, you will no doubt be expecting lots of action... And you will not be disappointed in this latest offering. Space battles, physical combat, treachery, and mayhem... They are all here.
The charterers may change, the ships and locales differ, but there is a relentless pursuit across the Galaxy for powerful enemies and hidden does.
This is a quick action packed, military science-fiction adventure that kept me engaged enough to finish it in a couple of days. It's entertaining and recommended off you are looking for a journey through your imagination.
If you have read any of the authors previous books, you will no doubt be expecting lots of action... And you will not be disappointed in this latest offering. Space battles, physical combat, treachery, and mayhem... They are all here.
The charterers may change, the ships and locales differ, but there is a relentless pursuit across the Galaxy for powerful enemies and hidden does.
This is a quick action packed, military science-fiction adventure that kept me engaged enough to finish it in a couple of days. It's entertaining and recommended off you are looking for a journey through your imagination.

Plus: General story is interesting
Minus: MC is belligerent and has super strength due to a distant... human... ancestor. Antagonist strategy/motivation is wholly inconsistent.
Multiply by -1: Author forgets the names of his own characters- Commander Tycho suddenly became Commander Vito. Ambassador Gruba became Gruber and then back to Gruba. At one point he's even Vito Gruba (who was NOT the previously mentioned Commander Vito).
Divide by 0: A lot of other names feel like fan service to other actors/characters - Thrace (BSG), Katee (BSG), Kane (Batgirl), Mercedes Banks (WWE), potentially even Ambassador One (ST:TNG). It's distracting and unoriginal.
Will not be reading more of this series.

This is a tremendous continuation of the Omega Directive stories. The characters seem to all be descended from someone of the infamous Omega Taskforce! I'm going to enjoy ravaging these chapters to come! A great read!

Violence, aliens, shadow realms, pirates and ancient enemies are just a few of the things you'll encounter in this story. It's a story that will leave you unsettled, but with a thirst for vengeance to be sure. If you're a scifi fan, adding this one to your to read shelf isn't a bad thing, though it could use another round of proofreading. I do want to read more in this series,s but it will have to wait a bit, this entry leaves one feeling a bit out of sorts, not sure I'm quite ready to tackle another entry in the series quite so soon. Strange, I know, but there it is. I'm left with the feeling I missed something important. Have to give that feeling time to settle before continuing.

Retelling of a story
This is a twist on the TV show Babylon 5 with shades of Battlestar Galactica (the remake) thrown in. This is the first book of the series so deals with world building, character development, and history backstory so it is wordy. Having watched the full series of Babylon 5 and Battlestar Galactica (the remake) I was able to speed read through this book. I am waffling about finishing this series but I am sort of curious about how it unfolds and ends. By the same token I am not desirous of Immediately Diving into book 2.

This one surprised me in the best way. To be honest when I got this book for free I was not expecting much but once I got into this was a really fun read. My only real complaint is that the MC is very hot headed and acts rashly but it may be that is what is going to keep him alive. If you like Babylon 5 I think you will enjoy this too. Oh and it is worth mentioning that the MC is a bit over powered. Solid Space Opera with your time if you are fan of the genre.

Interesting concepts
A reasonable starting novel for a series. I can see the parallels with Babylon 5. I like the idea of the gigantic space station. I would have appreciated more time to explore it in the story. Perhaps later books return there? The writing is is okay to good. I may continue to read the series.

Excellent space opera
An excellent space opera in the vein of Babylon 5, a large crumbling space station a faded hope for peace, a large number of antagonistic alien species, criminal organisations and the return of an ancient enemy. Well written and action packed, great characters all with issues to deal with. Loved the story. I look forward to reading more of these

1,000 year later
Caught my interest right away and kept it to the end. Being the only descendant of the 2 people who destroyed Earth doesn't bring a lot of friends with the notrarity, sure it saved the Human race but that's besides the point. Tough critics 1,000 years later! Looking forward to the next book.

Good story
This is a good concept - I have really enjoyed reading the Omega Taskforce series and now this one. My only criticism is that it needs better proofreading before publishing. Way too many typos, and some cleanup in flow could be helpful. Still, it is well worth the read. I'm definitely going to continue reading Ogden's stories!!

This is the first book in the follow up series of 'Omega taskforce' .
A really fast paced action filled story with a great backstory and a book that you don't want to put down until you have finished it.
I am really looking forward to reading the next in the series.

This was an experience overall. The story kept my attention almost through out. There were places where things slowed down but nothing intolerable. Good job. I may have to pick up the next book.

It's been a thousand years since the Omega team, led by Sterling and Banks, defeated the Sa'nerra. Dalton Reeves is the last descendant of the pair, when the Sa'nerra return they are looking for revenge on him. Good start to a new series, as the Sa'nerra, with an even greater threat not far behind.

First day, halfway through book I couldn't stop reading. Finished on second day, ending was just the beginning. When does this finish? I see there are 9 volumes, does it finish there?
