Lilian Monroe

Lilian Monroe lives in a luxurious jungle treehouse surrounded by lush greenery, with an army of scantily-clad men with rippling abdominal muscles ready to attend to her every need.

No, wait. That's not true.

Lilian Monroe spends her days dangling her feet into her pool, while a scantily-clad pool boy with rippling abdominal muscles feeds her chocolate-covered strawberries and massages her back.

Okay, okay. You got me. That's not true, either. Let's try again.

Lilian Monroe lives at home with her two children, three dogs, and twelve chickens. Her husband likes to work shirtless in the back yard. His sweaty, gleaming abdominal muscles ripple with every movement and he—

I'm sorry. I have to stop. Fine, I'll admit it. That one isn't true either.

How about this: Lilian Monroe loves thinking about men with rippling abdominal muscles serving her hand and foot, and she wants you to think about them too! She is an avid reader, writer, and lover of all things romance.

She loves everything from bad boys to billionaires. Her books are packed with sizzling-hot heat, action, suspense, and everything from second chances to single dads. She hates cheating and loves a good happily ever after (and rippling abs).

Good ‘single dad falls for nannie/surprise baby’ romance!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: 😟🤭😘🥰

The heroine: Dani - Four years ago she was working for a company that was doing some less than legal things. She left her boyfriend and copied hundreds of documents, files and pictures and emails onto a USB drive as a way to protect herself and she ran. Dani has been running ever since. She has recently been staying with her best friend but refuses to eat any of her food except bread and butter. Tomorrow she is starting a new job as a live-in nanny to a billionaire and at least her contract provides her with a home and food.

The Hero: Emil - he is a billionaire who runs his father's company which he inherited and is putting his mark on it. He has two young children, Francis and Talia. He has gone through 35 nannies, with none of them lasting more than two weeks. He has high standards and wants his kids taken care of by the best. His wife, Callie died two years ago and even his best friends think he has become overbearing since she passed away. Everyone thought she was an angel, only Emil knew that she had terrible secrets, and he has been dealing with that since she died, while pretending she was the woman everyone thought.

The Story: It’s Dani’s thirtieth birthday and her friend Bonnie sends a gift in the form of a bunch of women who come to get her all dolled up for a night out. They do her hair, makeup, nails and put her in a fancy gown. Then a car picks her up and takes her off to the summer ball, the biggest event of the year in Manhattan. She gets there only to find she is the date of the most handsome man she has ever met.

I liked this one more than I expected. The backstories for each of the main characters were interesting and I really liked how they intersected despite the fact that there were too many coincidences for it to be realistic in any way. I also enjoyed how Dani and Emil got to know each other a fell in love. They were both at just the right place in their lives for their overwhelming attraction to hit and the attraction turned to more over time, so that was great.

Tbh, this one was everything I needed.
A sweet and nice romance read. I liked the characters, especially the sassy heroine, it was nicely written and kept my interest, however I wanted a more expanded epilogue.

Lovely

A new to me author and although the premise is as generic as ever, Monroe tells a great story. Off to read her other books.

This is an ARC review. All opinions are solely my own.

Lilian Monroe is always a one-click author and the first book of this new series is no exception. This is a nanny, billionaire, surprise baby romance. All Lilian Monroe's specialty.

Dani thinks she's getting a surprise from her best friend for her birthday. And boy was it a surprise but not what she thought she was getting. I was thinking that I really need a friend like Bonnie. LOL!!

Emil thinks Danica is meeting him at a ball but through a series of coincidences Dani arrives. He is blown away. The attraction is INSTANT!! A few days later he meets the new nanny. LOL!!

I really loved this book and the story was very well written. I really appreciated the drama aspect of the book. It was very well researched. I loved that Dani was written as a very strong woman and wasn't going to bend until she was ready. I loved the way that Emil won her back.

Lilian Monroe has written another great book. And those epilogues had me wondering if my allergies were acting up. I think there was some pollen in my eyes.

You know, I had such high hopes for this one.
The blurb, the cover, and the beginning part of the book were so promising ...
but it dwindled down, unfortunately. The premise was good - I could feel some angst building due to the Hero's deceased wife ... but ... alas, it did not translate to execution.
I really loved the heroine's POVs - they were hilarious!!! Good job, Ms. Lilian.
BUT ... after a few chapters in, I felt a very unbalanced judgement of Danika, the heroine.
I felt her character was too idolized / lusted over by these supposed hunk of millionaires, not just by the Hero, but the Hero's friends, too - it felt "off". Too much. Too soon.
This was an unfinished read for me.

"“You said take it or leave it. I’m taking it,” he answers, his lips dipping close to my ear. I don’t even have time to let his words settle low in my gut before he puts slight pressure on my back, and I feel like I’m going to pass out again. “Follow my lead,” he rasps, and guides me toward the cameras."

//

This isn't so much a review as me making a formal statement of thanks to Lilian Monroe for writing Emil Van Der Berg for the community, because good lords this man was something. I utterly loved him, and his kids, and my darling girl Dani, but especially him and Dani *together*. The best way to describe it, is that it felt like reading the equivalent of when you're listening to an R&B song from the early 2010s while eating chocolate. Sensual, maybe a little bitter, but very sweet, and 100% self-indulgent. I loved it for that, honestly.

//

"“To answer your question,” he starts, his voice dark and dangerous, eyes tracing the curve of my mouth, “yes, I’ve dreamed of your lips on me. I have so many depraved images of you burned into my head, I should be locked away for good.”"

****3.5****

I know all romances have moments of coincidence/serendipity, but this one stretched the bounds of disbelief a little the way it lined up every facet of their life and baggage. So I'm giving it 3.5, but rounding up because I liked that the FMC seriously stood up for herself. So few lead females will say "nope, I don't deserve this, and you can fuck right off buddy" when the male has realized how dumb he was and wants to make up.

Also, I liked that the situation with his first wife wasn't just black and white villain crap.

I really wanted to like this book it was just another nanny and billionaire but I got so tired of hearing them think and repeat themselves over and over again.

Prior to the llama drama, I didn’t really feel caught up in their love story or feel their connection (and there was a lot of sex I skipped because I didn’t care and it wasn’t interesting enough to stick around for. Plus the fem MC blabbed on about her emotional “walls” a lot and that was a little annoying). But this book took a turn for crazy town when the fem MC’s ex came back in the picture. How stupid can she be? How stupid can the male MC be? This chick really thought that meeting a shady ass man, clandestinely, was the right way to go about this. What if he had her followed or hurt because she had dirt on him (kinda)? He was stalking her before, why would she show her face and her hand, allowing him to take up stalking/harassing her again if he wished? Where is the concern for her safety she was so proud of having all those years?

He could have also spun their meeting way worse than he did, could have said she was a corporate spy or something working a job for him or working for a competitor and then set her up by taking photos. On top of that, she knew that man, knew what he’d done to her (hell, everyone in the city should know because she talked/thought about it so often, it really was obnoxious). And yet, she trusted him to do the right thing. That’s not being naïve, that’s being an idiot. And even if she did still believe that the devil could make miracles, she still should have told the male MC, shown him her evidence and walked him through it with the same intention of “letting him decide for himself”. I didn’t get the secrecy.

And the male MC didn’t once consider that maybe this guy had bad intentions towards his girlfriend? Especially after he asked about meeting/seeing her and seemed uncomfortably interested in learning more about her. I don’t event think it would have been too difficult to figure out that he was her ex. The fem MC told him she dated someone who worked in the field and owned a big company (now I’m not in that field personally, but with the way STEM usually goes, especially with something so niche, I’d expect it to be a pretty closely connected community, where people know people, even if they’re out of state) and he never once, not once, considered this could be the guy. It made me mad to no end that when she initially brought it up they didn’t continue the conversation, and she never mentioned names, of the company or the man. Or even the fucking state she moved from. So the drama, when it came, felt very contrived and completely avoidable. But the fact that the male MC believed some rando he didn’t even like over the woman who’s been watching his kids for months was fucking nuts. He didn’t even ask her what happened (though I think it was crazy even after the meeting and she found out she was pregnant, she didn’t go to him first). And his reasoning for thinking the worst didn’t even fucking make sense. What would there be to gain from tanking the deal? If she was after money, she blew her cover too soon, he would have been doing better financially (he thought) after the deal. If she was doing it to hurt him- why go all cloak and dagger, when she had easy access to his kids? And the fact that this man runs a company, but can’t figure out when a picture’s not quite lining up is wild. But ultimately, I believe he never really trusted her in the first place, if it can be taken away so easily without much consideration. Which makes sense for people who’ve gone through tough things but is not conducive to their relationship in particular, because kids are involved.

And then we get into the part of the book where the author threw in the kitchen sink. The male MC’s wife was really suffering from postpartum and acted out to get her husband’s attention and love, and she felt like she needed to conform to his life (despite there being no mention of her needing to be a housewife/stay at home mom, or that she couldn’t have her career). And it turned out, she wasn’t trying to steal his kids that day she died *shocker*, despite there never being any specific mention of why he always thought that she was. No bags packed, no empty closets, no divorce papers, no turned off cellphone or picking the kids up from school/daycare early for no reason. His assumption never made sense to me, and now we know he jumped to conclusions, just like he did with the fem MC. See a pattern? But none of this explained why she poked holes in the condoms or why the other nannies didn’t like her. So I guess we’re just supposed to forget that little nugget and jump on this totally different, completely random “her mental health was bad and he was a neglectful husband train” which went absolutely nowhere. But the wildest part of all that, was when he said “he forgave her but better yet, and he forgave himself”. HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. WHAT? You “forgive yourself” for being a shit husband, but don’t ever really look into any of that or attempt to fix bad habits (which no one has mentioned until the climax because kitchen sink, but whatever, these invisible bad habits) before you start trying to regain the relationship (he doesn’t try to repair it at all) he had with his current beaux. Insane.

The after of that fallout was probably the worst part of the book for me. He said he was sorry, and then tried everything in his power to get her back in his house EXCEPT ask her for what she needed from him. He tried emotional manipulation (honestly, I don’t normally call a horse a horse, other romance MCs have done similar things and you have to suspend a some reality in order to enjoy most of this genre, but I really didn’t like him so all of his actions after the blow up were especially tainted) and buying her affection/commitment (though he said he wasn’t, but what else do you call 3 extravagant gifts in one night when you’ve just made up?). She told him she wanted space, and though that’s ultimately not what she ended up feeling, it’s what she initially said and he responded by messaging her every day and putting the responsibility back on her to tell him to stop. Um, she did. How about you respect her boundaries? And for him to show up uninvited. Yikes. (Again, I know this is a trope in romance, but in this case I really do think he fucked up and real world rules apply for me.) I also didn’t like how everything went back to business as usual after he came to visit.

I would have liked to get some clarification on why the fem MC was holding onto the files. Why not expose him or at least report him, and herself, to the agency who gave them their certifications? Who knows how many other companies he duped into working with him since she left, and she mentioned maybe sending the info to the media when she was considering meeting with him but never brought it up again. Why not send out the information or report him anyway as an insurance policy that he would be found out one way or another? She said she wanted to protect herself, but beyond running away, she never really did anything to do so.

"Ella es mi futuro. Ella me hace completo.

If you like reading this book, you should read The Newspaper Nanny and Ignite.

He was possessive from the moment he met her and I loved it. His son had to my favorite part of the book because he absolutely adored Dani. It was an easy read. I will say the connection to the ball and his name was just too much of a coincidence for me. It probably would've been more believable if his assistant screwed up the names and sent the people to wrong address instead of what actually happened. I like that he came to his senses in the end and fixed things the proper way. I wish she would have found a different way to tell him she was pregnant. I lowkey hate how he was like, "I never wanted kids but I wouldn't trade my kids for anything now" and "I don't want anymore kids."

Lilian Monroe is a new author to me. This book was promising at first but halfway through, it didn't get me excited to read it anymore; I just wanted it to be over as soon as possible. What I loved here was the writing, that for sure was entertaining and kept me turning the pages. However the storyline, not so much. A few other things I loved were Danika Jenckell's (FMC) strength and self-respect; Bonnie's (FMC's Best Friend) kindness and generosity; Talia and Francis (MMC's Kids) being good and smart kids. What I hated though was Emil Van Der Berg (MMC) for being gullible, indecisive, and giving whiplash every now and then.

Most intimate scenes are fade to black. The side characters weren't outstanding for me so I don't think I'll read the other books in this series.

-MMC: Single Dad, 2Kids, Billionaire, Dead Wife
-FMC: On A Run/Flighty, Nanny
-Insta Lust
-Mistaken Identity
-Forced Proximity
-Surprise Pregnancy
-Trust and Commitment Issues

AUDIBLE EDITION!! Excellent Narration!

Danika/Dani Jenckell has been on the run from her previous employer and ex-boyfriend Richard Gleason for 4 years. She has copied on USB evidence of fraud he has committed that would also, implicate her.

Emil Van der Berg is the Billionaire CEO of Berg Motors and the widowed father to 2 adorable children. He can't keep a nanny. Emil doesn't trust anyone with his children.

Emil and Dani meet at a big Posh Summer Ball event on her 30th birthday. They are immediately attracted to one another. The sexual tension between the two are off the charts.

Surprise Dani is his new Nanny!!

This story is very well written. The two build a beautiful relationship. I loved the way the author incorporated Emils children into the storyline.

Emil and Dani are the perfect couple, and they get the perfect HEA!! I LOVED THIS STORY!!

I have to be honest and say that I thought the pregnancy part of this would be more of a major part of the story like mentioned in the description but it really isn't. I didn't mind it much though.

ps. I should say this because I doubt that it is mentioned in the description for this but there is the whole dead ex thing that I am known to hate. However, in this one, it isn't as annoying even though it is irritating enough that I rolled my eyes at the mention of her name or all the oh so horrible things she did.

I wasn't buying the idea that she couldn't have friends or enjoy life because of her ex/stalker. The guy character was off in that he was said to be overprotective but he let a stranger hang with his kids for a while before they met and went over the rules of the house. And then he hired her because his daughter took a liking to her despite his suspicion that she was deliberately infiltrating his life for some unspecified purpose. This overprotective billionaire does not need to settle for an untrustworthy nanny!

The first half is 3.5 stars, and the second half is only 2.5 stars. This insta-love story isn’t very consistent, super repetitive, and not realistic. Also, the guy is soooo dramatic and whiny. 3 stars at best, not bothering with the rest of this series.
