Santa's Radio #2

Snowed In at Harper's Inn

Rate this book
With this snowman, I thee wed.

Lacie is organized and outlines everything in her life to the minute. One thing she doesn’t plan on? Her fiancé breaking up with her the morning they’re going to leave for a Christmas getaway at Harper’s Inn.

Devastated, not wanting to vacay alone, Lacie begs her best-friend-since-birth, Jared Kingston, to take her ex’s place and come with her.

Magic has been rumored to exist at the inn. The best friends play it off until, after jokingly naming their snowman Parson Brown, Lacie and Jared hear the packed man of snow pronounce them husband and wife from beneath its carrot nose.

Their world flips. Everyone at the inn thinks they’re actually married. The room Lacie booked for herself no longer exists. Even her driver’s license has changed to display Jared’s surname instead of her own. When the snow flurries in, trapping all the guests in the mountainside resort for the holiday, Lacie and Jared have no choice but to bunker down and wait out the storm.

Do they risk accepting Harper’s Inn’s magical interference and seeing if there’s more between them? Or is pursuing this snowman-sanctioned marriage going to destroy their friendship for good?

Fans of cozy, clean, friends-to-lovers romance with a fun Christmas twist will adore Snowed In at Harper's Inn by Catelyn Meadows!

What a roller coaster ride! The magic at Harper's Inn is back. This time we see Jared and Lacie's ride. They hear the music from the old Santa radio, find themselves attracted to each other, then are married by a snowman that they built, creating chaos in their lives. I was so grateful for them that there was an explanation for all the madness. It was interesting to see them go through it and figure out what they would do with the information. Such an original idea for a book!

I received an ARC to review: A delightful fantasy-romance, Jared and Lacie's impromptu planned (!!) holiday adventure involves a mysterious, magic radio, a snowman, and some reindeer. Finding themselves in a "this is what life would be like, if ..." scenario, the duo, snowed in, are inadvertently forced to review their 'platonic besties' status. Catelyn combines the fairytale aspect - where the reader willingly enters into a suspension of disbelief because the situation between the couple is so sweet - with  modern romance, and one cannot help but get caught up in the magic of Christmas and the warmth of romantic love. 💕

This novel will make you believe in magic!

*Warning: Review contains spoilers.

General thoughts:
- The book was very fun, sweet, Christmassy (as expected and loved! The lightheartedness was just what I needed in my life right now), and funny. I especially smiled and laughed in Chapter 27! The romance was good!, the situations and people relatable (including --- just because I know from personal experience --- wanting better for your own relationship than your divorced parents had like Jared once said in this book), and plotline was exciting. It was Hallmark-y but in a good way! And I loved all of the magical interference and the MFEO/”fate will find a way to make sure you two are together” feels as well! Also: That definitely would have been terrible if the snowman marriage was really just Jared pranking Lacie. It reminds me of the same kind of idea as, “There are just some things you can’t say to people on April Fools’ Day…”

Characters:
- Lacie’s personality was amusingly type-A and organized-planner in a way that was both well-executed and pretty relatable! I’m probably like her more than I’d like to admit, even without the phone addiction and workaholism. Failure, things not going as planned, and spontaneity can all be hard! But I think that a message of her character is that life is more than just one’s image and practicality. I’m glad that Lacie learned to slow down. And considering that Jared said that he wants kids, it makes me wonder what she would be like with some!
- Jared is just a lot of fun, simply put! I loved his banter in places like Chapters 3, 6, and 7. I did get a little infuriated with him in places like the ends of Chapter 12 and 21, though. I was just like (to him and Lacie), “Get yo’selves together already!” I love the “best friends fall in love” trope, so I got pretty committed into seeing how good of a couple they were even when they were only a pre-couple. Guilty as charged!
- Tia I found to be a mixture of reasonable and insecure at the same time, because you should be able to trust the person that you’re dating if they’re the right one, and so there are multiple ways that that assessment can go. It was interesting and sad, yet what was right for everybody, how things turned out with her and Jared. I wish for the best for her (fictionally!)

Favorite sweet moments:
- Lacie and Jared snuggling in Chapter 19 after Lacie hurt her ankle.
- Lacie’s admission-of-love speech to Jared in Chapter 23.

A favorite passage/bit of figurative language:
- “The suggestion bothered her like a cat who has its fur petted in the wrong direction.”

Somewhat morals you could take away from this novel:
- Life isn’t what we expect it to be, but that can make it much BETTER than we expected it to be.
- Find that person who makes you not want to spend all your time on your phone (or doing other equally-busywork activities.)

A few random thoughts:
- There’s one point where Lacie said a roommate of hers had once broken up with her when she accidentally ruined one of her art projects. I am so lucky that though the same kind of incident happened to me, my former roommate and I are still friends…! I am lucky, and I feel for you, Lacie!
- Yeah --- and I agree that you can’t “just kiss,” like Lacie and Jared had hoped to do for the purpose of Romeo and Juliet. It doesn’t work that way! I can’t imagine my sweetheart and I trying that in a play, haha. Hormones are hard…!
- I also do not blame Jared for having hated sleeping at DIA once. I am from Colorado, and yeah…that airport is crazy!

Overall, I think that this is a really great clean romance, and I would recommend it to others and look forward to reading Junie’s upcoming story (as well as the installment that came before this one, because admittedly, I haven’t read it yet!) If you like the movie Holiday Inn or authors like Krista Lynne Jensen, Lucy Keating, and Chelsea Curran, then you will likely love this novel, too!

Another enjoyable story from Catelyn Meadows. Poor Lacie, things start out rough for her with her ex and then convincing her forever friend Jared to go to Harper's Inn with her so she's not alone. However, one would not think building a snowman could change things in your life, but I guess the tales of magic were real. Could real love have been there in front of her face the whole time, you'll have to read to see.

Total awws and warm fuzzies! This holiday romp will keep your heart invested as you turn those pages. This is full of heart, acceptance and the magic of Christmas dreams. It's the most wonderful time of the year in this zaney, unforgettable holiday book.

The constant push and pull between Lacie and Jared is frustrating and yet, so easily could I see besties falling for each other. With anxieties and what could bes looming largely for these two, its up to holiday magic to give them a brand new twist that leaves them both feeling off kilter. And some very fun events occur that are just delightful for the reader. Watching things play out was at times extremely humorous and a bit sad. Seeing these two friends figuring out maybe they could be something more had me glued to these pages.

If you love the idea of a friends to wedded bliss book that has some very memorable moments from some iconic characters this is for you! Grab your cocoa and settle in!

Snowed in at Harper’s Inn

Lacey and Jared have a fun and strange story. This book has a fairy tale type vibe. Upon visiting the Harper Inn they decide to build a snowman. The snowman in turn pronounces them man and wife throwing their whole world upside down. Read about their exploits in trying to determine if the fake marriage is a permanent or temporary situation.

This is an amazing book, in other words a typical Catelyn Meadows story. Lacie and Jared have been best friends since they were children. There is magic at Harper's Inn and they went to spend Christmas there. Loved all of the book, especially after they heard the radio. One of the best Christmas books I have read this year.

I was given this advanced copy for free,  and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I loved this book, I just kinda wish it was a bit longer? I wasn’t ready to leave just yet 😭

This book is magical! If you’re looking for a warm, fuzzy, Christmas romance, this is definitely a read I’d recommend!

The storyline was perfect, but the characters are what really made it for me.
I love Lacie and Jareds dynamic. We start with them as best friends and watch as that relationship grows and blossoms (no matter how hard they fight it.)

The storyline itself was full of twists and turns that we couldn’t predict, but it makes for such an entertaining read.

Overall, I’m fully in love with this book and it’s definitely put me in the mood for Christmas!

***Possible Spoilers***
Snowed in at Harper's Inn is cute. But also really annoying for me. I had a difficult time with this power couple. It was the obvious friends for life couple who should just end up together storyline. But they refused to because Jared never made his feelings clear to Lacie throughout their life (even though he mentioned he had dropped hints...newsflash, that doesn't count!), and Lacie just went on with her life not even realizing she had feelings for him. This book just had me going in circles. The magical radio and snowman marrying them was a little bit more than I could handle, but it IS magic! They both have their freak out moments when they realize they are suddenly married, and Lacie went off the rails! But once they accepted their new alternate reality, I couldn't get past Jared's inability to effectively communicate with Lacie. Many times that is the problem with every romance novel: inability to communicate. But with Jared, he would confess his feelings and then backtrack and talk about his girlfriend and give mixed signals to Lacie. I was falling into the cliche Hallmark storyline, right up until he...just lost me. Reading from Jared's POV would help occasionally, as we know Jared had a girlfriend before he went on his Christmas trip with Lacie. He was trying to be honorable to his girlfriend. I appreciate that. But, not once did he make it crystal clear to Lacie what he wanted their future plans to be, and he really did her dirty. Once again, he just hinted or briefly mentioned, but then said they had to just "remain friends". Once again, Jared just talked in circles. The ending wrapped it up nicely though, and I was glad the route changed the way it did, and that the magic...changed. It wasn't entirely my "cup of tea", but it was very cute, very magical, very Hallmark-y, and sweet!

This was such a great book!! Lacie and Jared have been friends since they were little. They’ve always been in each other’s lives. After Lacie’s engagement falls apart, Jared goes with her to Harpers Inn, where magic happens. While there, they become married and like what that means for them. But then the magic disappears and they don’t know what to do. They realize that they are perfect for each other and can’t live without one another!

Catelyn has done it again. Another book that made me shirk other responsibilities just to find out what happens next and another book that you wish could continue forever. The magic and the Christmas spirit make this book a perfect read for the upcoming season.

2.5*
This was fine. I did listen to the audiobook whilst painting, and for that it did the job to keep me entertained enough. I still was a bit bored at times, hence the long listening time. The feel of the Inn came across pretty well. I could feel the warmth of this place. I love snow and little Inns.
The two main characters had somewhat of a chemistry, but more so because we are told, that they know each other for forever and shared all those little moments. But those moments just left me questioning why they never have had suspicions about their true feelings for each other. Like toss in an annoying boyfriend and girlfriend and how could they know that they have in fact feelings for each other and not the person they are actually with.
I particularly hate when people don’t break up first in books, but the significant other just gets blasted as a kind of rude and bad person, so it is kind of ok if you kiss someone other. At least, her suspicion was write, he loved his childhood friend from the beginning.
And well, the communication was bad between the main characters, another thing I hate. Just talk.
The christmas sprinkled in was fun. The little magic was cutsy but well, nothing worth to think about twice.
The ending was very fast and how they finally got together just really rushed.
I liked that it is a clean story.
For me it was like a Hallmark movie written out. I know what I get and that they end up together. Something to listen to when you don’t want to think much.
Wouldn’t have liked it as a book, as it would have been to long for me for what it is as I am a very slow reader. So I liked the 1.5 speed option to listen to it.

I love a good Christmas love story. This one by Catelyn Meadows was so great! I loved all the little fun touches added to the story.

Lacie is such a great character. She is a little uptight, but all good characters need some growth. I loved the way when faced with a hard decision, what to do about her Christmas trip, she chooses her best friend Jared. And that’s when the mystery begins. It was kind of funny to be in Lacie’s head and sense her confusion when her world shifts. I really loved that part!

Then there’s Jared. I loved the way he was always there for Lacie, no matter what. These two really needed some communication, or something. Because they both cared for the other, but they’d never actually told each other.

The plot in this one is so fun! I loved the idea of a great old magic inn at Christmas time. The author added so many fun little touches to the story. Things like Santa’s radio and making snowmen in the snow. I loved this book!

A Unique must-read!
Another great clean romance from Catelyn Meadows! This holiday romance was unique and well written with great descriptions of the setting and imagery that pulled me into the story from start to finish! The magic of Santa’s radio was in-depth and thorough, leaving me on pins and needles wondering how it will end! Jarad is a true gentleman, staying true to his honor and trustworthy characteristics until the end, all while causing confusion and miss understanding for the heroine. This is a superb stand-alone addition to the “snowed-in” series.

This is a companion book to Snowed In at the Cottage. Personally, I think the Cottage story should be read first, but honestly, it does not matter. It was interesting to know the whole story behind the strange couple on their honeymoon.

Sweet snowy romance

I have been in a bit of a reading slump. Starting books and having to stop reading them. I have been struggling through a few and decided that I needed some wintry magic in my life. This book was just what I needed. Having been best friends with the man who is now my husband of 16 years, I was very pleased with the storyline. I shed a few tears for Lacie and am ever so happy she got her happily ever after. This was just what I needed to start this Fall Break.

This is a heartwarming romance, with a touch of magic, between best friends, Lacie and Jared. These likeable characters and the unique plot make for an enjoyable read. It is a charming love story with enough drama, steam, frustrating moments, sweetness, twists and turns, and engaging secondary characters to keep the reader interested. A fun, holiday read with a happy ending.

This was so good! I've never read this author before, and after reading this cute Christmas book I'm going to explore her other works. I loved how unexpected this story was. I had no idea how it was all going to work out, and I'm glad I had a good chunk of extra time to read! It wasn't your typical snowed-in Christmas story. It had a bit of magic and whimsy, some painful conflict, but wonderful resolution.

Lacie and Jared are best friends- and just friends, much to Jared’s chagrin. When Lacie’s fiancé dumps her right before their Christmas vacation, she gets Jared to go with her. A bit of Santa’s magic is imparted on them and suddenly everyone thinks they are married! This was a fun, magical Christmas romance. The setting was fun, and even though Lacie was a bit annoying at first, she grew as a character, which I always like in my books.

Fun & Fantasy. You can believe in the goodness & kindness that Santa Claus can bring,.

Snow & cold, how can that bring so much warmth to your soul.
Maybe it's because the Season can bring encouragement, hopes and dreams to come true. It isn't about how many presents you get, but how much happiness you can give.
Simple things, caring, listening to someone dreams, sharing a moment.
This story was a gift to 2 people.
