“to my inner child—
i am sorry you never learned
how the words
i love you
were supposed to feel
i am sorry
you were ignored
i am sorry
you were never told
you are enough”

While I was reading this collection, my mind was singing "I need somebody who can love me at my worst...." And that too the you-know-who's version 💟

Exactly for Rupi Kaur's readers!

You will not be disappointed with this collection. It's that this feels like the younger version of Rupi Kaur's poetry collection.

The lines are genuine and, no doubt, you will feel connected to the written words as soon as you start reading them.

Go for this collection. The nostalgia hits you right.

Thank you, author and the publisher, for the advance reading copy.

I ate this book. It was gentle and relatable and it reminded you to love and accept yourself and that your enough and deserving of love. It was easy to like and easy to connect with. Here’s some pieces I liked most:

“to my inner child-
i am sorry you never learned
how the words
i love you
were supposed to feel
i am sorry
you were ignored
i am sorry
you were never told
you are enough”

“saying i have trust issues would imply i have any trust left
i just have issues”

“Darling I’m not interested
In flowers or lust
offer me a boquete
of empathy and trust”

“baby, you will find someone the right one, someday
but for now, take this time as a gift
learn how to love yourself”

i have not had quite the poetry book that has REALLY spoke to me like this one did. every page, i found a new one that spoke to me. (not every single one did but there were far fewer compared to the majority).

i really had to take my time with this one because so much of it spoke to me and my mind.

Ahh, I absolutely adored it! This poetry collection was so sweet and tender and in the same time so raw and relatable. And I loved how the story was floating through out four sections. I would just highly recommend reading it!

Here I just leave some quotes that I liked the most, cause why not :)

"you cannot use someone
else’s map
to find yourself"

"i keep shouting who am i
into the void
the echo screams back
whoever you want to be"

"and when the shore
seems out of reach
don’t forget that
you can always just float for a while"

"ask your inner child what they want, and give it to them. you owe it to yourself to live this life in your wild. you owe it to yourself to find out who you are."

"it’s like i have a resistance to wholeness
more comfort in being broken"

you deserve to be loved without condition.
you are enough.
without trying harder.
without learning new things.
without accomplishments.
without success.
without getting bigger or smaller.
without getting smarter.
without improvements.
without changing anything at all.
you are enough, just as you are.

This is one of the very few items that I have returned.

If you’re looking for something similar to Rupi Kaur, like I was… it’s not.

My friend told me about this book, and I was expecting something moving and beautiful, but the poetry turned out to be quite primitive and also looked mentally unhealthy.

I am learning that this is not about me
This is about you
I am healed, I am whole
I am enough
You are in pieces
You are broken
You need healing on your own

- stop trying to break me too

I read this book in one day and even though I don’t read that many poetry books, I liked this one.
But (there’s always a but, huh?) something was missing, something wasn’t right to me.
But I can’t really explain it.

I keep shouting who am I
Into the void
The echo screams back

Whoever you want to be

Sometimes fate is kind enough to deliver what I like to call "'Right book at the right time."
So, for the record, here's my note of thanks to the universe for this one. I was in sore need of it.

I was quite surprised to find myself getting teary eyed at multiple points in this book. It wasn't until I finished the very last sentence of the acknowledgements that the tears fell and I felt a near cathartic release.
Relief. This read like relief.

Like a conversation with someone who knows you, gets you, truly understands you. Someone who puts their phone away as soon as you sit down because there's nothing on there that could be more interesting that anything you could have to say.

What an absolute breath of fresh air in a genre that has long started to feel oversaturated and often derivative and even performative.

This was one of my first times properly reading poetry and i actually really liked this. This poetry collection was so sweet and tender and in the same time so raw and relatable. And I really liked how the story was in four sections. It was such a short and quick read but still so walkable, I would really recommend reading it.

This was my very first poetry book and I absolutely loved it! I’m on my healing journey but this really reaffirmed some things. I do think I’ll read it again at one point or another. Would definitely recommend.

This book is a message to love yourself unconditionally. You don’t need to anyone’s approval. It’s also about a longing to have someone to love. That is okay too. You can long for someone to love you, all while learning to love yourself as you are. Both things are good. I love analysing poetry books - to relate to and to understand it thoroughly and how the poet dictates their feelings throughout, pages filled with sorrow, hopelessness and confusion but ending with the realisation that I’m good enough, I don’t necessarily need anyone and I will be FINE. :)
It goes through politically social agendas which I liked; which most readers didn’t as I concluded from past reviewers 🤍🦢.
I wish for all people who have read this book discover they can do the same 🕯️.
If you want a good cry when reading this book - listen to “Two Birds - Regina Spektor”!!!

I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley.

I enjoyed reading this book so much! I was so surprised when I read a poem regarding astrology, which is a subject I truly love -- happy to know that the author is also a scorpio sun. Every poem is full of emotion and beautifully written. She's very talented and I'm glad I chose this book. The illustrations throughout the book are also beautiful.

normally i want to be so kind about poetry, especially because it's so vulnerable to write and someone worked hard on this book, but this was really just not very good. some of these were just like...sentences. milk and honey is actually better than this, which says a lot. sorry to be a snob!

It's 10:29 a.m., and I'm reading this while crying my eyes out. What a way to spend my Sunday morning.

This is so relatable—everything I've ever said to myself. My inner child, the ones I've lost, the people I loved most. My heart is full of memories of the past, the hopeful present, and the promise of the future. I particularly cried over the "Dear Nana" poems and the theme of losing someone.

I also appreciated the author's honesty about her sexuality; it made me feel a bit closer to her. Additionally, her reflections on physical imperfections resonated with me because I often think about that too.

This is a really awesome poetry collection. It made me want to write again and to be a writer once more. (Is that dream still alive? We'll see.)
