All of her life, she's only wanted to be wanted. He just wants to inherit a legacy.
When Hannah Gallagher's mother dies giving birth to her, her no-good father leaves her with her mother's parents. They didn't have much, but they loved each other. When her grandmother passes suddenly, her grandfather forces her to respond to an advertisement for a mail-order bride. Reluctantly, she agrees, but does everything she can to make sure the groom to be won't pick her. After all, who would choose a barely educated woman who only knows how to grow the basic of vegetables and shoot squirrels for supper? And then her life turns upside down when she receives a letter asking for her hand in marriage. Doubts assail her as she gets ready to leave the only home she's ever known and tries to convince her grandfather to travel with her.
Briggs Blackwood is stuck between a rock and a hard place. While ranching is in his blood, and he loves it, he has to meet one requirement to take over his family legacy: get married and produce at least one grandchild within five years of his mother's death. Briggs never wanted to get married. Even though his mom and dad's relationship had been loving and kind, he doesn't know if he can have a loving marriage like theirs. Hoping his father changes his mind, Briggs waits until the very last minute to find a wife. After placing an ad for a mail-order bride, Briggs reluctantly settles on a woman from Illinois. Once she arrives, he finds her to be more than he bargained for.
Will Hannah and Briggs discover just how much they need each other? Or will life's challenges become too much, with the only solution to annul the marriage and go their separate ways?
I really enjoyed this story! Hannah and Briggs are super sweet together and I loved seeing their relationship grow. I wanted to slap Briggs for being so dumb! I was so glad when he finally came to his senses. I liked the cliffhanger that this story ended on with Hannah's friend Elizabeth. I can't wait to read her story next!
A good story with a great plot. Hannah is such a strong person even though she doesn’t realise it. Briggs is struggling with who needs to be. I gave the story a four because there are a couple of places where the wrong names are used and some inconsistencies. Other than this, I truly enjoined their story and look forward to Lizzie’s story.
When one has spent a lifetime with a deficit of love, it can be hard for that person to believe that he or she is loved, and even not poor, but rich. God can bring amazing people into our lives to love us. We need only to receive it. I have a feeling the next story is about Hannah’s best friend!
This is an OK mail-order bride romance, with likable characters, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 3 stars from me.
First, it was just too short to have enough character development. I wanted more backstory on both Briggs and Hannah, but especially on Briggs.
Hannah was likable, but it bothered me that she had such low self-esteem. I get that it was because her father had abandoned her, but I wanted her to realize her own worth.
Briggs was OK at first, but it really bothered me how he was so jealous that he jumped to incorrect conclusions about Hannah near the end. He almost lost her because of it, when he just needed to talk to her to find out she loved him.
This is a clean romance, with nothing but kisses. If you only want to read romances that do not include sex scenes, this one might work for you.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
This is sweet mail order bride tale written by Joi Copeland. She has done an excellent job with the plot and the characters. Hannah is a sweet, naive young woman who was raised by her loving pappy and granny. They lived in a one room shack, have little money or worldly goods but they had plenty love of God and Hannah. After her granny’s death her elderly pappy insists she find a mail order husband to love and care for her.Briggs is a handsome young man and his father tells him he must marry and produce a child in order to inherit their large successful ranch. He advertises for a bride and Decides on Hannah. When she arrives she is more beautiful that he dreamed she could be, and sweet and protectedly innocent. They marry and they allow all sorts of doubts and perceptions almost destroy their fledgling marriage. You will enjoy discovering how they find their happily ever after.
Hannah grew up with her grandparents after her father dropped her off with them. They were poor, struggled to survive. Hannah grew up thinking she was worthless and felt unloved, despite her grandparents taking her in and caring for her. Briggs grew up in a loving home and never wanted for anything. After Hannah's grandmother dies, her grandfather tells her she needs to get married. She doesn't want to leave him alone, but she sends letters to men needing a mail order bride. Briggs father wants him to get married and have family and tells him if he doesn't marry, the land and property will go to his cousin. Their faith in God helps them understand that they matter. Briggs misunderstands some moments between his best friend and his wife, which could have been resolved easily if he had talked to both of them. Good characters and a happy ending.
Well-written story that deals with the inadequacies so many of us feel. Briggs and Hannah are well suited if they can just get out of their own heads. They are both likeable and while the book had moments of danger it was nothing scary, just normal for the time period. Well, the moose was scary! I thought the colorful little wreaths marking each chapter were charming. There were plenty of faith moments throughout. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to book 2 in the series.
TRILOGY =🎄Christmas Brides of the West by Joi Copeland
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐= excellent
I purchased this eBook. All opinions are mine alone without expectation or compensation.
Your heart aches for Hannah and the life she has lead, the hardships she has faced and the deep fears she fights as a result. Heading to a new life, a husband and family, should have been uplifting and enjoyable, but Briggs is blinded by his own fears and false expectations, which make for a bumpy and heart wrenching road to HEA. We also finish with a teaser for Lizzie's book as she joins Hannah under mysterious circumstances! A great addition to the series, I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
This was a fantastic Historical Christian Christmas fiction book! The story was believable and the characters heartwarming. I loved this so much, I was on the edge of my seat nearly the entire time! This was my first introduction to this author; it most certainly will not be the last! I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book, but it did not in any way affect my review. All opinions are my own.
Hannah lives with her Grandpa and helps take care of him. When he touches on the topic of Hannah moving away to be a mail order bride shes hesitant. Briggs finds himself needing a wife in order to complete his fathers wishes although he feels he can never measure up. While this was a short read it was incredibly sweet and I enjoyed the story and characters. I can't wait to read Lizzie and Macks story.
Hannah's grandpa wants her to get married. But she doesn't want to leave him. Finally she agreed to a marriage. Briggs father wants to marry and have kids to inherit his property and land. Briggs misunderstands some moments between his wife and best friend. Can he overcome them. Will they?
Briggs and Hannah could not have had a more different background. Briggs had always had a loving home and the best life could offer, Hannah grew up with nothing and feeling unloved. I really enjoyed the faith both relied upon. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but really look forward to reading more.
I really enjoyed this sweet touching story. Both main characters are challenged by low self worth, leaving them struggling to feel worthy of love. HEA ending is wonderful.
I love Christmas stories and this is a wonderfully delightful story! The way Hannah and Briggs overcome there differences and surrender to their love for each other! I truly enjoy reading series with characters that end up in other books in the series!
A lot of angst in this romance between two people, both suffering from low self-esteem. They do have faith in God which sees them through. Well-written characters and an interesting plot. A good read.
What a wonderful story. Its about one young lady who came from nothing. A young man with no wish to marry. Each has a story. Each wish for love and if they must marry let it be for love.
Reading about mail order wives usually came from dire circumstances. We don’t know all the stories, but it wasn’t so long ago that it happened. This story has a usual match, fulling believing in Gods providence. I loved this story
This a interesting read of Hannah's and Briggs intriguing story. I was hooked from the very beginning to the very end. I touch my heart. It is very well written.
