Sara Madderson
18 books480 followersI like to change things up! I spent my 20s as a banker and my 30s bringing up small children and running my own fashion brand (Madderson London).
Now, aged 43, I find myself writing, and I wonder why I didn’t do it sooner.
I’ve always loved writing. My daughter Tilly has an old notebook of mine filled with half-finished stories and accompanying drawings. I’ve read for as long as I can remember, guzzling up books so quickly that my mum always protested that I couldn’t be reading them properly. You can see my original, dog-eared version of A Little Princess in my photo. Its protagonist, Sara Crewe, is one of my all-time favourite heroines (alongside Anne Shirley, naturally).
I published my first book, Metamorphosis, in February 2020, right before lockdown happened. It’s a non-fiction book about escaping from our cocoons and living as a butterfly. As lockdown progressed, I found escapism in devouring lots of delicious chick-lit (for want of a better title) and I realised I had a few novels in me too. I have loved every single minute of writing them.
I’ve published my books independently, and I love the freedom it provides. The world of independent publishing is fascinating and so empowering—I’m delighted to share more of my experiences of self-publishing if you’re interested.

I had to have this second book in the Sorrel Farm series before I even started the first one. I knew I was going to need to pick it up immediately, especially after falling in love with Sorrel Farm in A Very London Christmas. I'm so happy to say I was definitely not let down.
Sadie has been recruited by Evelyn to head PR for Sorrel Farm, a little slice of heaven Sadie knew she'd be crazy not to want to work at. Having left London for the farm has been a huge adjustment and Sadie bounces back and forth between wanting to go back to the city and feeling more inspired than ever working with this impressive group of people. Two men at the farm have their sights on her. Danny is the assistant farm manager and oh so overtly hot, while Ned is a nerdy Finance Director who seems a bit shy and wear diaper butt chinos. Decisions, decisions, right?! 🤣 As she spends more time at the farm, she learns more about each man's character and the choice becomes obvious. But is she too late and too closed off to find a happy ending?
I so enjoyed getting more of Evelyn and Angus in this book and the inner workings of the sanctuary that is Sorrel Farm. I had a hard time stopping this book once I picked it up and easily read it in two sittings. Highly recommend!

Sadie is a former journalist who has been hired by Sorrel Farm to deal with their PR. At the same time that Sadie is hired, Danny is hired as a new assistant farm manager to help Angus with the day fo day running of the farm and lastly there’s Ned, a long standing member of staff at Sorrel Farm and the Finance Director.
As soon as Sadie meets Danny it’s clear that there’s an instant attraction because he sounds totally hot. However when she meets Ned she dismisses him of hand. Will Sadie realise that there’s more to Ned that meets the eye? And who will Sadie choose Danny or Ned?
As an avid fan of this author I absolutely adored this book. There’s something about the way the author writes her books that just feel like a comfort read to me. I loved the storyline and learning more about Sorrel Farm. As for the characters as always the author has done an amazing job in bringing the characters to life so they jump off the page. My initial thoughts on Sadie weren’t particularly positive but I did warm to her as the story progressed. Although she’s very smart and knows what she wants she doesn’t always see what’s right in front of her face. Sadie is someone who definitely judges a book by it’s cover especially when she meets Danny and Ned. As for Danny yes he sounds very good looking but there was something about him that just felt too charming. And as a complete an utter nerd myself I completely fell in love with Ned as soon as he appeared in the book. He is definitely a new person to add to the book boyfriend list. One of the other characters who I found very intriguing was Zoe. It was interesting to learn more about Zoe, what she’d been through and when she talked about her spiritual side. I loved how characters from the author’s other books make an appearance in this book and we get an update on where they are in life and also see them interact with new characters. This book is just under 250 pages long and I honestly wizzed through it and I can’t fault anything about the story, the characters or the book in general.
This is book two in the Sorrel Farm series and although it can be read as a stand alone to the first book, Food for Thought I would highly recommend reading the first book in the series and any book written by this author to be honest. With Sara’s books you honestly can’t go wrong!

Although I’ve read and enjoyed a couple of Sara’s books before, I hadn’t read the first book in the Sorrel Farm series (Food for Thought). However Sara quickly provides an update at the start of the story, so this book can be easily read without having read Food for Thought.
Sorrel Farm sounds amazing and I wanted to stay there or move in. The food sounded delicious and the facilities exceptional. I read this book at the start of half term and this was my escape from reality (sadly we aren’t going anywhere this holiday).
As the synopsis suggests, this is also a relationship dilemma for Sadie. Should she get involved with someone at work after just starting her new job? This is a non spoiler review so I’m not going to spoil the story but I can share that there are some hot and steamy scenes in this book that left this reader blushing.
Happy to say that this is another fun and relaxing read by Sara Madderson, featuring interesting characters and fabulous locations. I look forward to returning to Sorrel Farm in the future (book 3 – When Then Becomes Now has recently been published).

This is the 4th book I’ve read by this author and I just can’t get enough – they are my guilty pleasure and the perfect bit of escapism that we all need from time to time.
Heaven on Earth is the second book in the Sorrel Farm series (check out my review for book 1 Food for Thought right HERE) however I would say it is completely standalone. If you have read the first then you’ll be pleased to know that some old friends make an appearance and it was nice to continue their story.
Whilst it’s not as heavily plot driven as previous Sara Madderson books I was not disappointed. Sadie is the main focus in this story as we follow her make some terrible decisions when it comes to men and then we have the classic ‘will they / won’t they’ as she tries to process her feelings for Ned.
We are once again transported to the beautiful Sorrel Farm and as always with this author she does a wonderful job of making me hungry and envious with her detailed descriptions of food, designer wear and locations. As mentioned, these books are the perfect way to escape a gloomy day!
Overall this book oozed romance from the get go and if you’re looking for glamorous characters, romance, a complicated love triangle and some rather steamy sex scenes, then this ticks all the boxes!

I absolutely adore Sara’s books and this is definitely high on the list of favourites. She is a wonderful author and definitely one that should be on the TBR.
I adore Sadie, she is an absolutely fantastic character. This has been a rollercoaster with her and I have found myself invested and wanting the best for her.

This is book 2 of the Sorrel Farm Trilogy. This time we follow Sadie, the new director of public relations at the farm. Sorrel Farm is a magical destination and Sadie wants to help put it on the map. She is rather attracted to the farm's assistant manager, He is gorgeous, flirty, and extremely confident. She hasn't paid much attention to Ned, the farms financial director. He fell for her the day she started her job. It was nice to make another trip to Sorrel Farm and see old friends as well as meet new ones. I recommend reading book 1 first for maximum enjoyment. The characters are great and so is the food!

Oh my stars, the heavens, and the earth!
With the exception of one last book, I’ve worked my way through Sara Madderson’s entire catalogue, and I am undone. The second of the Sorrel Farm series, Heaven on Earth may have been a love triangle, but I could see no other outcome.
At first, I didn’t like Sadie much. She was a typical twenty-something, just like I was at that age. Dismissive. Rude. Know-it-all. Selfish. I seriously wanted to take her by the shoulders and give her a good shake. “Can’t you see it, you silly twit?!” I said in my head so many times. I should know… I was guilty of choosing flash every time. I could tell her… but the lesson is always better learnt when you find out for yourself, just as we all seem to have to. I was Sadie. Maybe we’re all Sadie to some degree?
When Sadie finally receives her own comeuppance, and gets her head straight, I’ve never been so glad to see someone mature and become a better person. I don’t want to give anything away (this book is a minefield of spoilers and I’m sure you’ll figure it out very soon in the book who her true love is). The flash of Danny versus the dullness of Ned. It’s a no-brainer… or is it?
I loved getting to know so many of the Sorrel Farm characters more in this book. Especially Zoe. She is a marvel. I have met a few transcendent people in my life and I think they have all had some kind of a spiritual awakening. Zoe’s beliefs about how we commune with the universe when we commune with food are so beautiful. Those invisible threads that bind us to each other are incredibly strong.
I also appreciated so much that we got to know more about Evelyn and Angus in this book. Their child is mentioned in other books in the Love in London series, but I want more of them too!
Heaven on Earth is a continuation of all of the Sorrel Farm characters' love stories. This place and the people it attracts feels like it has many more stories to tell…

*sigh* Let's just get this out of the way: I adore Sara Madderson/Elodie Hart and I would read anything she writes because I love her writing style that much - hell, I'm working my way through her backlist because I enjoy her writing that much. However, that is the only reason I a) did not DNF at 60%-ish and b) gave it 4 solid stars instead of 3 - which is where it sat for a large part of the book. The last 25% truly saved it for me and I'm ultimately really glad I hung in there.
So, a little background... our FMC, Sadie, gets a job at Sorrel Farm as the PR manager after writing a wonderful piece on Evelyn (our FMC from the first book). She's a city girl who moves to the Kent countryside because she just got out of a 5 year relationship and wants to shake things up. By moving to the country. Okay. From what we know of her from the first book, I was prepared to like her in this one... and I just didn't. She was SO unlikeable. The blurb indicates that there's a triangle involved... but really it's just her insanely bad radar when it comes to asshat guys. (Spoiler-ish CW: ) Our MMC, Ned, is an absolute sweetheart who Sadie spends most of the book being outright rude/bitchy to. She only "notices" him when a reporter asks for his email bc she thinks he's cute and wants to ask him out. 🙄 At one point, I'm just like "dude, give up the ghost; you're better than this." There are misunderstandings that would be cleared up in a heartbeat (and would have given us so many more spicy times) if they would have only talked... or even mentioned something teasingly in passing. That said, once they are on the same page, they are both All. In. And I am here for it.
As annoyed with our FMC as I was, I could not put this down. I made sure to read this every chance I got today and because of that, she gets a solid 4 stars. I've been flitting around Sara Madderson's backlist, but I knew I wanted to read Sorrel Farm in order to understand some of the references made in later books in her other series, as they all exist in the same universe.

This is the third book I've now read by Sara Madderson, and I'm never disappointed.
Heaven on Earth is Book 2 in the Sorrel Farm Trilogy.
In Heaven on Earth, Sadie is in a new role as Director of Public Relations at Sorrel Farm. Sadie is a strong character knowing exact what she wants. Danny, the new Assistant Manager, who has started at Sorrel Farm on the same day: a confident, gorgeous and flirty type, catches Sadie's eye. Then there's Ned, the Finance Director. He's captivated by Sadie the moment he sees her. Not that Sadie even notices him.
Cue.... a delicious, juicy, flirty but messy love triangle. This is not a fluffy chic lit, there's some juicy bits, that I've come to expect and love in Sara's books.
This was a fun read with a good storyline and characters and modern vibrant feel. The balance is just right.
In hindsight I think it would have been good to read Book 1 in the trilogy, prior to this one, for the back story, but it didn't spoil my enjoyment of this in any way.
Pure fabulous escapism, I totally lost my weekend to this book 💗 I'm certainly looking forward to reading Book 3 very soon.
Highly enjoyable.

It's not my favourite...the book itself is wonderfully written, as all Sara's books are (the ones I have devoured so far, that is).
I am just not a fan of Sadie. She was awful to poor Ned, writing him off in such a materialistically bitchy way and he didn't make her work for redemption at all. I think that is what was missing for me. I wanted to see him make her work for it. He deserved better.

I have thought on this one some more, Sadie was the main character in the book apparently but it didn't feel like it. There was alot of Evelyn and Angus still...Sadie was a closed off (somewhat awful) character at some points but we don't get to see why, she has no backstory...if you remove the Evelyn of it all (put it in her book maybe) and give us more about Sadie, it may have made her less dislikeable...I still think Ned should've made her work harder!

These books are so much fun to read! Absolutely perfect to clear the mind of every day stresses.
This is Sadie's story, and how she finds herself a little (or a lot) torn between two very handsome, but different men at Sorrel Farm.
Inbetween trying to get the farm on the map, glamming it up for the beautiful Evelyn, Sadie is having the time of her life falling for the wrong man.
I love how characters intertwine within eachother lives from previous books. And although Sadie hasn't been my favorite in the books I'v read so far, a certain Ned (our resident geek) is definitely one I want to read more about.
A fast and flirty plot. Great to escape for a day.

The second installment in Sara Madderson’s Sorrel Farm series is exactly what the title says it is: Heaven on Earth. It’s an absolute delight & gives readers more glimpses of Evelyn & Angus as well as showing us Sadie’s welcome to the farm family. Sadie isn’t the typical perky MFC we usually see & it took me a bit to warm up to her, but once I understood her better, her prickliness made perfect sense. And Ned was just perfect from the get-go. Loyal, humble, patient, & nerdy, Ned was exactly what Sadie didn’t know she needed in her life. Their love story is so much more realistic than most romances, & that made it all the more enjoyable.

I must have been reading a different book than everyone else who reviewed this.
I honestly didn't love much of it. I liked Ned, but I sort of hated Sadie for quite some time... She eventually comes around, but her attitude and disdain and bad decisions made her very unlikeable. Also, this book wasn't just her story- it was very much a continuation of book 1's Evelyn & Angus. I honestly didn't hate that bc I liked them better.
Overall, I made it and liked that Ned won out and I warmed to Sadie, but I didn't love it like I did Wilder - the book that brought me to this series.

Misleading subtitle
This book, like others by this author, is very well written, but I find the subtitle about a love triangle, misleading. For one thing, Sadie, Ned, and Danny are more like side characters. Sorrel Farms is the main character, with Evelyn, Angus, and Zoe close seconds. I never really find a love triangle at all, more of two successive relationships, although calling what happens with Sadie and Danny a "relationship" is euphemistic. Despite this, I enjoyed the book and who cares about the title, anyway?

Another fabulous book from @saramaddersonauthor which was exactly what I needed last week - luxurious escapism!
It’s smart, well written, suspenseful, sexy, compelling, glamorous, raunchy but never cheesy 😉 with excellent attention to detail.
If you liked this summer’s #TheIdeaOfYou you’ll love Sara’s books. This is the second in the Sorrell Farm series and I’d definitely recommend reading ‘Food for Thought’ first

Love love love. I just love Sara's books. They fill me with joy. I want to visit a place like Sorrell Farm, its so idyllic and calming.
The characters become friends you didn't know you needed, you feel their pain, share their love and celebrate their accomplishments.
Once you read why this book receives its title of Heaven on Earth, it takes an already beautiful story to a whole new level.
I can't wait to read the next Instalment which is on my shelves ready.

Unexpected rewards!
This book was all about deceptive perceptions for me, and I loved it! It’s so clever! Nobody was as they first appeared to be, and I loved falling in love as their true selves were revealed. Ned and Sadie were both predictable at first glance, but as they basked in their own adoration of each other they bloomed, and it was a revelation. I loved falling in fall alongside them both!

Sweet Contemporary Romance
This delightful story picks up where Food For Thought leaves off, though it can be enjoyed without reading the first book. I loved continuing the romance of Evelyn and Angus, and Sadie's romantic adventures. The surprise treat for me was the insightful spiritual reflections shared through Zoe. I highly recommend this book and series..

Sadie really turned out to be a great character. I was worried about her. Sexy Ned hiding all that body under boxy, diaper-butt work attire had me cracking up. I am thoroughly enjoying this series.

Sadie took some time for me to warm, once the storyline with Ned picked up I was hooked.
Theo whole Sorrel Farm series has me captivated and I enjoyed more of Evelyn and Angus 😊
