Collecting volumes four to six this book covers the aftermath of the shock reveal from the previous Omnibus's final chapter; the training of our main cast from around 12 years old; how society and the military react to, and deal with Eren, and see if he can achieve his greatest wish, which is to go out the Walls and face the Titans in the open. Will he get his wish?

With this reality and characters so well set up in the first omnibus, it was obviously going to improve and it very much did. Setting aside an entire volume to cover their training was a great way of solidifying the characters in a reader's (my) mind. There are also multiple lines of mystery from Eren's true origin and what exactly are the Titans through to where has Eren's dad been all this time and what makes Levi the way he is? Compelling, exciting and intense, a superb series only sightly marred by the artist poor work on individualising character faces and bodies, and just about passable depictions of motion. In this series, story is king for me an dwell worth the Four Stars, 8 out of 12 that I rate it. Straight into my top three Manga reads (I've read less than ten)

4.5 stars.

“We all regret it. If we’d known we were going to be dropped into hell like this, we wouldn’t have chosen to become soldiers. Right now when we’re exhausted and can’t go on… that’s the only thing in our heads […] If I hadn’t become a soldier. If I hadn’t met you guys. I wouldn’t have to worry about who’s next […] I know I have to fight. But I’m not gonna turn into an idiot like you. Not everybody is strong like you.”

What a continuation.

After all the action of the previous chapters, these ones are quieter, most of the time, but no less intriguing and enriching because of it. Actually, maybe more fascinating because of the world-building and expansion that the world got.

Of course, there was enough action to not make everything feel too monochrome, which was exhilarating and really nice as we could see other characters take the brunt of it.

“We’re soldiers, aren’t we? There are times we can’t run away, no matter how bad the odds are. When the people we’re supposed to protect are threatened, we have to enter the fray and shield them. And it doesn’t matter who or what the enemy is. We need to master skills and get stronger, with artillery as well as hand-to-hand combat. I think that’s our responsibility as strong soldiers.”

Getting to see brief pieces of the political system and the forces that are working here was entertaining beyond belief and helped to give a greater sense of what, exactly, we are dealing with. Not that there are many clues as to that yet.

Meeting all the different factions that hold any kind of power over this world, The Military Police, The Garrison, The Wallist Cult, etc was probably one of my favorite things that we got to experience.

Aside from a good struggle against terrible odds and beings beyond our understanding, there is something so much thrilling, and dispairing in having very human, and quite relatable, antagonists that control the world as well.

Maybe exactly because it all feels like something that we could be doing as well.

Needless to say that I could have expended the whole three volumes just going around it.

“I am a member of the Survey Corps, the wings of humanity. We do not fear death. Even if it means laying down our lived, we fight to the end.”

“It’s like I’ve been in a constant state of surprise ever since joining the Survey Corps. It’s not only Hange. This organization is full of oddballs; like a haven for eccentrics. A group of people looking to change the status quo. That’s the Survey Corps.”

With the introduction of what's got to be an incredibly iconic group of people, The Survey Corps, we get the cast expanded and broadened in a way that ranges so vastly that it can appeal to many different kinds of people.

From older characters such as Levi and Hange, both incredibly different but with personalities that just exude trust and passion and care, both characters that stole my heart with one appearance. To the quirkier group that is Levi's Squad.

It was simply wonderful to be able to meet them all and get different views on everything that is going on around.

The return of the 104th Cadets, now with more depth and time to actually get into the nitty-gritty of them all. I think I love them all... though Jean already has a special place in my heart.

Overall, it's just great to have such a big and complex cast of characters that all have a bit of time to add something to the story.

“One person can’t do much alone. That’s why we act as a group. We count on you and I hope you’ll count on us. Trust in us.”

I'll have to admit that the flow of the story in itself was a bit odd. I appreciated what it did but it did feel a little... interesting.

Going back to those flashbacks was really fun, of course, as it provided nice exposition, but it does make for some really non-linear storytelling that can get confusing.

Aside from that, I have to say that the ending is a real cliffhanger, but one that feels really nice; so, that's a good thing. As it's a good thing that we are actually advancing at a decent pace in the quest to unveil the mysteries of this world.

“The difference between out judgment and yours is experience. But you don’t have to fall back on that. Choose. Believe in yourself or believe in me and them, the Survey Corps. I don’t know the answer. I never have. Whether you trust in your own strength… or trust in the choices made by reliable comrades. No one knows what the outcome will be. So, as much as you can choose whatever you’ll regret the least.”

That was quite the place to end that volume.

Eren is trying to figure out how to control his monster powers
The whole army is trying to figure out what is creating/controlling the intelligent giants and why they want Eren.

The story is so gruesome- the giants just smash and eat humans like ants. I really love this world, the rounded walls to keep the monsters out and then the wilderness beyond. I am super interested in starting the next omnibus!

OK, I'm not sure I'm in it for the full run, and early on in this volume I thought I might be losing interest, but ... it got progressively more interesting.

About as out there as world building goes, at least in my reading orbit, and I keep comforting myself that gazillions of readers can't all be wrong.

Reader's nit: Given my druthers, I'd prefer a much higher word/text/prose to art ratio. This definitely into the talkiest of series, but, again, it's sufficiently unusual and it's very much starting to pique my curiosity.

Really enjoyed it!! Although, there’s so many un-answered questions, loose theories, and moral ambiguities, but I’m excited to see where they go:
- there’s definitely something to unpack with the whole ‘what we can see and the true nature of what actually exists are totally different things’, especially when it comes to the Titan’s and the sun (are their bodies sustained/made through photosynthesis?), and further in regards to Eren needing a purpose in order to transform. But I don’t really have a clue where this could lead as of yet, the idea’s quite broad and the plot might go anywhere.
- I’m also really loving the deeper moral conflicts AOT provides as opposed to One Piece, it feels more mature and thought provoking. They get quite political and theoretical which I find really interesting, for example is a small victory worth the weight of so many deaths? And if survival requires such sacrifices, is it truly progress, or just a different kind of defeat?

I'm not thrilled with the narrative of this volume. The bulk of the first issue is a long flashback to Eren and his comrades' training, which needlessly detracts from the action. Its placement in chronological order in the anime is much more coherent.
The author pulls a similar stunt in the third issue. If it's more justified narratively speaking, it's too long and cuts off a sequence with high dramatic tension (as in the anime, by the way).
What's more, many of the scenes drag on for pages and pages, with the characters wondering about life, death and taxes.
In short, I'm not convinced.

I've noticed a certain improvement in the drawing over the pages - with a few flashes of brilliance in the hand-to-hand combat scenes or those involving the Female Titan - but it's still light years away from the minimum level required to be considered decent.

*4.5

This omnibus edition was so incredible. I am somewhere between a 4.5 and 5 on the rating but I think because of my hesitancy that means it wasn’t a full 5.

I feel like AOT is probably among the most interesting media I have consumed in a long time. The most intriguing aspect for me is the underlying world-building that is revealed slowly throughout each volume. There is so much mystery surrounding the titans yes, but also the overall creation of the setting we are in. Something I always love about dystopias is the reveal as to why the society is the way that we find it and every volume of AOT brings us closer to it. The art is so gruesome and I really appreciate that choice from Isayama (the titans especially are so grotesque). My main complaint about this volume specifically was the flow of the story telling. We jumped between when Eren et al. were trainees BET (before Eren Titan) and when they are part of the survey corps AET. It was so confusing and took me an embarrassingly long time (and rereads of sections) to really understand what was happening.

It’s interesting to read this considering I’ve watched the anime. A lot of stuff I’ve forgotten from the anime and it reminded me while reading. Also how brutal the titans eating ppl were. It was downplayed in the anime bc when I saw Marcos half eaten body I was just all like I wondered why they blurred it out. I was just all like how is he dead??? What happened? And then reading this I was all like ohhhhh. Also knowing how he died too while it’s a mystery to everyone else. I wish I was reading this while not knowing the ending bc the author is really good at leaving a breadcrumb trail for ppl to figure out and come up with theories on their own
It’s interesting considering that this is not the whole world and they don’t know it yet.

Written and drawn as an action movie, in a much more effective way then most western superhero comics I have read.
It also keeps enough questions and hocks in there for me to keep up my curiosity about whats going on.
I think the story could be a bit more focused. And the terror of the titans and the trauma of the characters gets a bit to much at times.
But yeah, I think Im dedicated now. I only need to figure out how to read the kids christmas present (omnibus 3) before christmas... Because I want to now what happens...

I love how their are 3 manga's in one book. The pages are bigger as well which makes it easer to read. You get to meet some more people, like Annie, Sasha and some more. Their is some Eren and Levi stuff and Levi whole cleaning scean (one of my favas). We get to see a few flashbacks that key us into the past and some tenshion with Levi. Very awesome manga's and I can't wait to read the next book.

Not as good as the first omnibus (vol 1-3). I like the action and mystery of the series. But volumes 4 and 5 feel more like a very average military drama. Volume 6 is better and I hope it stays that way through to the next omnibus

Part two of rereading Attack on Titan: Spoilers Below
The end of Trost district, the training camp, the survey corps and heading outside. I do like how most of these three volumes focus on what to do with Eren. Even if he is not a threat him just being alive means there could be others with the power of the titans. Later in the manga we learn how many individuals have this power. However, in this earlier part of the manga We don't know just how many titans could be around. My favorite part is the Female titan, from her intro to how she shows her strength. During her time in these three volumes, she kills everyone that tries to attack her while leading titans to badly damage the survey corps. We are quickly shown her skill and level of intelligent. There is a moment when she is spinning someone around which does show a strange cruelty which kind of goes nowhere.

Volume 4 = The training camp is really a good part of the story. We are shown how everyone met and given an idea of their level of training. Towards the end of the volume, we get a good intro to characters from Keith which gives a good idea of what to expect from each of the top 10. There are even some good moments between Ymir and Krista. If you want to read the manga, I would read the training arc right after the fall of Wall Maria. The rest of the volume is okay, set up for the trial along with the main goal of the series for now. The beginning of the volume covers the end of Trost, honestly the least interesting part of the arc. Marco Death and Jean deciding to join the Survey Corps is well done. I do also like that after this volume in the character pages before the manga the other 104th and a few others are shown.

Volume 5 = One of the best volumes with so much good stuff within it. Hange introduction, the trail, the 104th picking which part of the army they join, heading outside and the female titan. This is just a really good volume of the manga. This not even including the bit about the subject of Ymir at the beginning of the volume. Within the trial we get to meet many new and important characters for throughout the story. The best part of the volume would be the female Titan and the destruction she caused to the really interesting tactics of the Survey Corps. Levi squad is the weak part with most of their development coming within the next volume.

Volume 6 = Armin, Renier and Jean clash with the female titan is my favorite bit of the volume. Jean is a great leader and how quickly their plan fall apart is terrifying. Renier near death is really good with him being one of the most built-up members of the 104th. After Krista shows up with horses the female titan does some more murder before coming across Levi Squad. I do really enjoy Eren testing out his titan power I do however wish we just got a bit bigger view into the experiments. Trapping the Female titan is a good ending, however.

Levi Squad: I always found them to be the strangest part of the Female Titan arc. They are pretty much her to show the strength of the female titan. They first show up within volume five, however they are mostly just talking and giving background to what the elite of the Survey Crops look like. There biggest part of the volume is within volume 6 and I do enjoy their relationship with Eren and each other. Spoilers for 7, they are really just here to die and be forgotten about. Perta and Oluo have the most time of the squad, but even then, they don't do much. Instead, the volumes focus on the other members of the 104th and Hange who are just far more interesting characters.

Marco: When I go into Attack on Titan Marco was such a beloved character and I never understood why. He is very kind, however he does very little within the manga. In the anime he does a little more with him luring titans away from Jean, but that does not happen within the manga. Infact Marco and the others disappear for a good bit of volume three and the end of Trost.

Book: Attack on Titan Omnibus, Vol 2
Author: Hajme Isayama
Rating: 5 Out of 5 Stars

I have already read through the series once and I am not working on collecting the volumes. I must say that this second read-through is just as good as the first. This time, I am picking up on all of the little hints and clues as to what is to come. I’m sure I’m still missing something, but I feel like I am making progress.

In this one, Eren and his friends join the Survey Corps and are on their first mission. Things start to go wrong right away and Eren finds that he must make a choice. Does he put his full trust in his squad or not? On top of this, Eren is going through experiments to figure out what he is and how his Titan works. It’s all about getting to know himself in these new roles and building new relationships. He is away from his core group of friends. For the first time in a long time, he must learn to build relationships with people who are older and more experienced than he is.

I loved the scenes with Squad Levi. This group has been handpicked by Levi. Therefore, they are a very elite group. They are all experienced and know each other very well. Eren is the newcomer. He has to work to prove himself. Not only that, but he knows these people will kill him if it comes down to it. Besides the whole killing thing, they also put their complete trust in Levi. They follow him into some pretty difficult situations, knowing that it could end up costing them their lives because they trust him with their lives. Eren sees this, but, yet, it leaves him conflicted. All of this life, people have been dying for him and now he has the power to prevent it. He has the power to prevent it and, yet, is ordered not to engage. I get this kind of conflict. Think about it: People are dying all around you and you can end it. Yet, your commanding officer is telling you not to. What would you do?

The action and the internal choices that the characters have to make shine in this volume. We are getting to see a lot of character growth and development. I have already talked about Eren. The others must also make a choice. What group are they going to join? Why are they going to join that group? It’s a hard choice. The author shows us how difficult of a choice it was and is to make. We see a number of the characters crying as they make their choice. Many of them suffer from breakdowns and question the actions of the veterans. It’s done so well. You can see how much everything affects them. The deaths are difficult as well, because each character, even the ones in the background, is drawn differently. This makes them all their own person and has their own identity.

Now, the storytelling does go back and forth between then and now. This can make it seem messy at times, but I did enjoy it. I liked seeing where the characters are now and how they got to that point. It needed to happen is what I’m getting at. By doing it this way, it keeps the plot moving. You get to see the bonds of friendship form and the changes that the characters go through. Yes, you do have to do some work on your part to remember.

Overall, I am still enjoying this reread.

Eren Yeager strives to be trusted by the remainder of humanity in this one. He joins the survey corps who hope to use and exploit him for his insane ability to transform into a titan. This ability is not easy to master and Eren hardly has any proper control over it yet. In one of his expeditions he almost killed Mikasa unwillingly in his titan form, which is epic btw. It is important to say that it took the main character quite some time to learn how to handle vertical manoeuvring technique but he is the most to have shown progress and improvement and even sealed a gate to prevent further titan entry into the city while in his titan form. He is taken to trial with regards to the hindrance that was caused prior to the heavyweight lifting championship and this was where Levi decided to take him under his wing.

I look forward to learning more about whether all humans have this innate ability to transform into titans or whether Eren's father has something to do with it, which I seriously think might be the case. Also, why don't they make it their priority to go to Eren's basement and learn all about titans to be able to counter them? Why do they put so many lives on the line needlessly when there's evidence of the titans' abilities that hasn't been tampered with or destroyed? Eren's father and the key he'd given him are still massive pieces of information which I can't wait to learn about. I don't watch the anime because I'm invested in reading the manga haha Volumes 7 to 12 are on their way :)

I've grown to love Levi's sense of authority and snark despite his gloomy and unpredictable nature. There is a female titan and this hasn't been explained before as titans are usually genderless but here we get to read about another case of a human turned titan and this one is vicious for some unknown reason unlike Eren in his titan form. Up until this stage however others may hate him, it's Eren against Eren and his inner conflict as well as lack of identity. Armin once again shows off his intellect but unfortunately, this time round it was to no avail. These volumes could too be a little confusing because of how they jump between past and present without any context or prior warning. However, very original concept and execution however it did remind me of Hulk from the avengers as Eren was busy biting his hand to try and change his form :)

May 25-25 VOLUME 4 3/5 i was confused bored and mad. every chapter i thought we were going to get to the present timeline but ofc not and kept confusing me. idk why they did this or why they went out of order like this but i hate it. suddenly i was bored. for the first time in this series. volume two was so good so i won’t give up. idk why they went about it like this. if you wanted to do flashbacks then y’all should’ve done them in volume two and three it probably would’ve made us like those two less but it would’ve beeen better. i felt like i was introduced to all the characters two times and i’m confused. i cant tell them apart. the text circles are hard to understand. the action and killing of the titans is hard to read. i don’t like how the volume ended. it’s already out of steam. but levi cool he’s been in like four pages i just wish he looked a little different cuz he’s hair sooo similar to eren. everyone’s hair short i can’t teell anyone apart. they should’ve given more people glasses. clearly rainer and bartlout are meant to be important but i can’t tell rainer from brian? rean? i forgot his name. mikisa come back it’s boring without u. and what did that teacher mean when eren completed the hanging test, did he know erens mother or am i confused again. i don’t think erens dad was testing on him but probably adodptef him and surpressed his memories.

This Omnibus of Attack on Titan is just as creepy as the first one and I am surprised it is not considered a Psychological horror with how the titans eat but don't have a digestion tract to properly digest the body's and seeing the body's eaten and thrown around gave me a "Brrrr" feeling cause I know there has to be someone out there that has seen this anime and has had a nightmare of being eaten by titans. Eren Yeager being the salvation of humanity and those in power being scared and behind their walls makes me just want Eren to go into his Titan form and have some fun but that kind of goes out the window when you see the female titan, especially seeing her do some things that no other titan has done. Funny thing is when it talks to him Armin acts like he knows who it is and I want to see that aha moment when they revenge for their comrades.

What a wonderful book I have to say, I still love Rainer the most. So much action I love it and there graphics are amazing . I love attack on titan and cant wait to read the next book I finished the book in one day in about 4 hours tops and it was so good. I loved the fake preview at the end of the book, it was hilarious to read. I would definitely recommend this book to any one really. And it was good now that I finished my land of stories by Cris Colfer and can read a lot more short and long books without having to finish a whole another series at the same time.

Honestly keeps getting better as it goes on. After the action packed intro of the first few volumes, this set turns back the clock a bit to the Training Corps early days and gives us more of an insight into these characters and their bonds, as well as the world around them. I loved the balance between these smaller character driven moments and bombastic set pieces and can’t wait to see where the ending of this volume takes the series going forward.
