What does your past mean for your present? Are some wounds too deep, too ancient, to ever heal?
Nes Macnamera’s life is quiet, and it is consistent. Ever since her mother disappeared when she was a child, she has lived in the same town, been around the same people, and spent every day trying not to think about her mother. That all changes when Lia Costa comes to town in search of her mother. Their connection is electric and intense: so much so that it shocks Nes off the rails of her routine into her own cross-state search. Something she never thought she would do. Together they cross state lines, searching for a woman who might very well have become a ghost.

Lots of family drama in this young adult lesfic, with our two MC's who both have abandonment issues because of their mothers leaving them.
Both Lia and Nes have trauma and are seeking answers about their respective mothers as they meet and connect. They are both sympathetic, and yet stubborn too, but feel a lot of damage from their pasts.
I loved the supportive parental figures Nes had in oldskool butch and femme lesbian couple Dan and Elena.
I liked the themes of discovering adulthood, your parents not being perfect, and sometimes not even able to give you what you need or want. Coming to terms with trauma and valuing yourself outside of that dynamic and growing up and letting others in.
A unique dramatic tale I enjoyed reading.

I first heard of Adrian Page while reviewing for Reading the Rainbow reviews this past pride month. When the opportunity arose for me to review one of her books, I immediately leaped at it.
Knotted (a book from the Threads series) is a heartrending story about two women whose journey for answers and truth surrounding their birth mothers brings them together. Nes Macnamera’s small town life is quiet, comfortable, and predictable. At least, until Lia Costa appears. She is a breath of fresh air. Lia immediately captures Nes’ attention and her help. Lia’s journey soon twines with Nes’ as they begin digging for the truth. The question remains how much truth can they bear?
I first want to start by saying that Adrian’s writing style is effortless and beautiful. I was drawn in from the first page and struggled to put it down. This story wove a unique tapestry of history and atmosphere that made me feel like I was there.
All of the characters (including secondary and tertiary supporting characters) are incredibly well-developed. They were written with great care, portraying various personalities and dilemmas. They felt real. Flaws and all. It dragged me deeper into this world until I was fully immersed.
While the subject matter is most certainly heavy, it was written in a way that made me feel like it was more like a love letter to healing than a deluge of trauma. It was written with a gentle understanding, guided by the strong undercurrent of “everything will be okay.”
This book could very easily be a five-star read to me. Though, there is one teeny-tiny-little thing that knocks off .25 of a star for me. There is a dangling plot point surrounding Lia’s ex-girlfriend that read as if it was meant to be explored (perhaps, it was explored in another one of the books, but as I read Knotted as a standalone, I’m unsure how interwoven—see what I did there?—the books are). It’s unclear if it was merely a forgotten touchstone in the manuscript or if it was intended to be a breadcrumb for another book. To me, it read more like a forgotten plot point, as it was mentioned and dropped rather abruptly.
Overall, I am so glad I read this book. It’s not often you find a book that heals parts of you that you didn’t know needed mending. I cannot sing Page’s praises high enough, and I hope this book gets far more attention than it has currently earned. It is a gem, for sure. I greatly look forward to reading the rest of the books in the Threads series. I hope you join me!
