The first two books in the Glock Grannies Cozy Mystery Series have made the USA Today Bestsellers list a combined three times.
I purr-ly read this because I needed a cozy mystery book for a book challenge, and this one was short. I'm not a huge master fan at all. This one was a very quick read, so it was exactly what I wanted. I was pretty much a short story about looking for a cat. Not really something I would ever go and pick out and read myself, but it wasn't bad at all. If you like cats and cozy mysteries, this one might be for you!
How cute! This is number one of 4 novellas from the Glock Grannies series and although it ran about 75 pages there was plenty of adventure in that amount.
Surprisingly it didn’t begin with a dead body. Well, based on the original 6 Glock Grannies, a murdered victim and its killer’s capture was always what the story was focused around. No siree, not this read.
It’s Halloween-time at the senior community and the grannies have chosen their costumes; however, those are a secret to everyone until they reveal them at the annual Halloween party. Even Geraldine’s cat Kitty Purry will be dressed up.
However, where is Kitty Purry? She’s gone and after viewing nearby storefront video footage, the grannies and Nikki discover there’s a cat thief and they’ve swiped Kitty! Catalie Portman has developed pica due to the stress of not having her furry sister around. But wait, does Catalie actually have pica or is there a different reason why she has begun chewing on wooden doors?
One of the grannies decides to go to Orenda, a psychic, to see if she knows the whereabouts of the cherished Kitty Purry. Orenda says the cat is doing well eating treats from a pink box and is in either Cleveland or Amarillo.
Then there’s Candice, a cat breeder who recently inquired about joining bloodlines of her cats with Geraldine’s. Does Candice have Kitty? Candice says she’s moving to Amarillo, so it’s possible she has Kitty based on what the psychic said. I’ll tell you what - Candice is holding some things, one of which is a very frightened cat and the second comes as a shock to Nikki and the rest of the grannies.
And the last suspect of the cat thievery is bitter Brenda who despises cats, but then the grannies see her at the grocery store buying cat treats that just so happens to be in a pink box. Does Brenda have Kitty Purry?!
As always, Nikki and the grannies are up to their usual mischief while trying to solve the latest crime and getting in the way of Owen the local police Detective. Let’s hope the ladies solve the crime before they’re arrested themselves!
Always plenty of laughter and shenanigans with Nikki and the grannies!
Next is the second Novella of four in the Glock Grannies minis, “Feasts of Fury (Glock Grannies Cozy Mystery Novella)”
This was just so much Halloween fun! And it reminded me I wanted to get back to reading this series. These grannies are such a hoot! Their costumes at the party they eventually went to were hilarious, and good ole Lloyd came very Lloyd-appropriate!
The case wasn't a murder, but someone did have a secret relating to one. The main case was Grandma's pride and joy, Kitty Purry being taken by someone. Kitty was one of her cats with takeoffs on celeb names. The other cat was super helpful in finding her sister (the other was Catalie Portman, cute huh?). I knew somebody was guilty of something and had a good idea of the guilty party or parties. The catnapper showdown was good, then it was time for the grannies to have fun at their own Halloween party.
I'd heard about this book from the Fairfield Publishing newsletter which this author sends out and just had to borrow it right away on KU. She was definitely right about it being completely standalone, although the timeline nerd in me will always wonder if it's technically book #6.5 lol. Reading at least one book in the series might give readers a little more enjoyment of this book, since they'd at least be a little familiar with the characters. But that's completely up to the individual. As a standalone, it's just a fun, quick and funny Halloween read.
This was a cozy and fun standalone novella using the cast of characters from the Glock Grannies Cozy Mystery series, which I have yet to read. I didn't feel like I was missing the backstory of whatever has happened in the series by the time this one would have taken place, but you could still tell this was a tie-in story.
There is one moment that may be considered gory, but otherwise, it's a safe read for all ages.
Kitty is stolen from Nikki's grandmother's store. This leads to the group searching for her. This gets the group in some dangerous situations. These senior citizens are really characters! Fun reading.
It is impossible for granny and her friends to stay out of mischief. When things go wrong don't expect these ladies to step aside and let anyone else handle it.
These we lot ladies are so much fun to read. Their antics will ha e you laughing with e very page. I am about to turn 70and I want to be a Block Granny.
