As a member of an elite private security firm, I’ve hunted killers, taken down crime rings, protected high profile figures, even helped thwart a couple terrorist attacks. But now one little mistake has seen me exiled to Siberia. Or close enough...
I’ve been assigned as a new security guard at the Royal Palace of Korova, and instead of being in the midst of all the action, where I’m most useful, I now spend my days trailing after the young prince and princess during their various lessons: horse riding, ballet, painting...the banality goes on...
There’s one silver lining: Lachlan Boyd, the palace head guard and my new boss. Smart, sexy as hell, and a Scottish accent? Yeah, I’ll take that combination, thanks.
But when the king’s younger brother, Prince Aleksandr, returns to the palace, it doesn’t take any of my investigative training to figure out there’s a history between him and Boyd. And that Aleksandr’s back with one mission: to rekindle their old romance.
I’m not entirely sure what Boyd ever saw in the guy. Aleksandr is a spoiled, immature smartass who insists on getting under my skin at every turn. He’s not even that attractive. Or, maybe he is, but only if bratty twinks are your thing. And they’re not mine. At all…
If he’s my competition for Boyd’s affections, I’ve got this in the bag.
Three's a Crown is a poly romance with three gorgeous guys and a happily ever after.
The good + The way both Aleksandr and Lennox don't mince words when telling Boyd they want his affections + All of Boyd and Lennox's colleagues/friends being so supportive + How Boyd displays no jealousy at all when he figures out there's something between Aleksandr and Lennox + Aleksandr dropping everything and going straight home when he decides he wants to win Boyd back + Boyd was so fucking sweet + No jealousy between the men and complete communication about what happens when one of the three isn't there (which was often, with their busy schedules) after they became a triad
The neutral o What the fuck happened to the cover?! I loved the covers with the brick walls! Why were they changed to such generic ones?! o Aleksandr and Lennox got down and dirty without Boyd's knowledge while both were still vying for his affections. I didn't really like that, it felt somewhat dishonest to me? But Boyd didn't mind
The bad - A palace guard / bodyguard / general protection dude / whatever Lennox was going motorcycle riding without protective gear is just plain stupid and dangerous - Aleksandr and Boyd parted ways because Aleksandr saw a future that scared the crap out of Boyd. Then everything that Boyd feared happened off-page (the coming-out, mainly). It was such a vital part of their relationship (and its pause) that I think it should have been in the book - Aleksandr and Lennox had no emotional connection. They had a strong sexual connection, but I felt like they never had a real conversation other than Aleksandr showing Lennox he liked motorcycles - Lennox complained Aleksandr was nothing but an immature and selfish brat. Boyd disagreed and said he was so much more and the most selfless person blablabla. Yet Aleksandr has done nothing to prove Lennox wrong, and I don't understand how Lennox changed his mind. Aleksandr was an annoying brat, and the only selfless thing we saw him do was work with charities - Aleksandr had no personality other than being a brat - Aleksandr's cousin Seb was an unsupportive dick. When your best friend has a romantic crisis you support them instead of doing whatever it was that Seb did -
This book just didn't really do it for me. It wasn't necessarily bad, but it could've been a lot better. I'm just really sad because I hoped for more :( I also won't be reading the next one because I really didn't like Seb... Sorry!
This book start a few years before the book 1 (Jai and the king), overlaps book 1 and finish a few months later. Highly recommended to read book 1 first for more understanding of the story.
After 3 years of sadness, where prince Aleksandr cannot move on from his relationship with Boyd, he came back home for a second chance. In the meanwhile, Lennox got a temporary job with Boyd and he has develop a huge crush on his new boss. Boyd is in a dilemma, they wants him to choose one of them, but he cannot.
The author writting is beautiful, we feel the different emotion each characters got, the fear, the jealousy, the distress/anxiety to choose someone , the confusion when the mc fall for two of them, etc. This serie tend to be less funny, less humor but is highly compensate with real feeling, good questioning and smart conversation.
Contains: second chance, coworkers to lovers, enemy to lovers, dating a prince, low kink (spank), triad and such good scene, well describe.
There were quite a few noticeable typos. "Hard to breath" "When their eating" "We're you jealous" I didn't even need to highlight these or write them down. They annoyed me so much I just remembered them.
This book is supposed to be MMM. They were rarely together. It was always Aleksander/Boyd, then Lennox/Boyd, then Aleksader/Lennox. Or any other combination of 2. Then a couple weeks would pass and we'd be back to a couple. But then suddenly they're together and they all love each other. And they live happily ever after the end.
I think I'm going to give this author up. I loved the Love and Luck series. I like The Goode Life series. The other 2 series by this author have been nothing but disappointing.
I always set into a new Isla Olsen novel with incredibly high expectations. Given how much I loved The King and Jai, its easy to say that my expectations for Three's a Crown were pretty high. While the book was good, it didn't quite meet the level I've come to expect from Isla's other works.
Three's a Crown has a lot of the things I love. It has a second chance romance. It has a rivals-to-lovers. It has insane chemistry between all three leads. Its low angst and has a nice level of steam. It just seemed to be missing something I couldn't quite put my finger on - and after sitting on it for a day, I still can't quite put my finger on.
This book is the story of the prince of Korova, Aliksandr, his ex-boyfriend/head guard, Boyd, and the new guard, Lennox. Each of these men are pretty well developed and have amazing chemistry with one another. The dynamics between each individual pairing are remarkable. But there's something missing in the triad, and it could very well be the lack of time spent with them as a trio. Almost every encounter in the book was either Alik and Lennox, Alik and Boyd, or Lennox and Boyd. For a book with an MMM central romance, there wasn't a lot of time spent between all three of them to really see how that dynamic plays out in the long run. I also had a really hard time with Boyd's character and the very stereotypical Scottish accent, but as I'm not Scottish nor have I ever had a lot of interaction with anyone Scottish - as in from Scotsland - I can't quite say if it was a poor narrative choice or a personal hurdle that I had to overcome.
That said, I still greatly enjoyed the book. I think it would've easily gotten a five star review if we got to see the trio together more. While I did love getting to see a lot of the individual dynamics - something that is often missing from MMM books, the trio aspect didn't feel as believable because of the lack of time. As mentioned, the characters themselves were wonderful. The communication between the three of them was (mostly) very good. There were a few points where it could've been improved and still felt realistic, but in general, very good.
It was another pleasant read from Isla Olsen, though not my favorite of her works and not quite as good as The King and Jai. This book can be read as a standalone and I devoured it very quickly, even with the few points against it.
This was a quick low angst read. I loved The King and Jai when I read it last year. This book was an MMM with second chance romance between two of the MCs and kinda enemies to lovers with the other two and Boyd the common denominator. It was cute and quick but not everything I was hoping after how much I enjoyed book one.
Three's a Crown is the second book in the Royal & Reckless serie by Isla Olsen. This book is about Lennox, Boyd and Aleksandr. Lennox is a member of an elite private security firm and assigned as a new security guard at the palace. Boyd is the head guard at the palace. Aleksandr is a Prince and the King's younger brother. Lennox wants Boyd. Aleksandr is back at the palace to win Boyd back.
I really liked their story. It was sweet, sexy, hot and well written.
A prince and two bodyguards, one of whom doesn’t really want to be a bodyguard at all. It’s a love triangle that becomes a relationship, and as premises go, I think it’s a great one. I liked Aleksandr’s energy, wit, and layered personality: there’s more to him than meets the eye, and I liked that he can be hopelessly romantic and yet brutally sarcastic at the same time. Boyd is stoic and often sweet, and he’s definitely likeable too, if a bit of an afterthought for the first parts of the novel (even though supposedly he’s the focus of both Lennox and Alexsandr’s attraction, he doesn’t really do much beyond put them both off because *feelings* and then watch their dynamic unfold). Lennox I have more complicated feelings about. He can be fun, and he’s definitely competent at his job. However, he can also be incredibly callous-- he’s judgmental about Aleksandr, and he’s way too willing to lie (by omission, but still) rather than be honest with his partners about his plans for the future. Overall, however, it was fun watching these guys’ story play out.
The dynamics of this relationship are interesting--- the novel spends a lot more time exploring the guys’ dynamics with each other as pairings than it does the overall triad, and because of that I didn’t always get the emotional development I might have been hoping for. It’s hard to know how they all function together outside the bedroom (there are a couple of scenes that establish that there, at least, they work really well together) and the emotional bond between Boyd and Lennox was definitely more theoretical than realized for me: Boyd says he has feelings for Lennox, but they seem to go from Lennox single mindedly hitting on Boyd at every opportunity and Boyd blushing a lot to “feelings” with little to no development or discussion. There’s also relatively little time spent on Aleksandr and Boyd, although they at least have the shared groundwork of their original failed relationship. Still, for me, the real heat and relationship development of the story lies in Lennox and Aleksandr’s enemies-to-lovers trajectory, which gets a lot of time on the page, and I can’t deny it was great to see them go from really irritating each other to being totally into each other.
*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I really wanted to like this one, but 1) there was quite a bit of overlap with the first book in this series and 2) this was supposed to be a polyamorous relationship but we barely saw any moments of them being a couple. After they all became boyfriends, they got too busy to spend time together for the most part. They had some sexy times (mostly apart) and didn’t really create a lasting bond that I would expect for the epilogue to happen. Also Lennox (Kane) annoyed me somewhat towards the end since he didn’t seem to be making an effort and was keeping Aleksandr in the dark.
Individually I loved all of these characters, and I think the MMM relationship could have been so much more. We could have seen each other their individual relationships grown while at the same time see them grow as a triad/throuple. Boyd (Lachlan) and Aleksandr had a “secret” relationship 3 years ago that they never really got over, but the connection they seemed to have in the first chapter felt realer than what they had for most of the book. I would have liked to see Aleksandr bond over movies and motorcycles with Lennox. I would have liked to see Lennox and Boyd bond over their love of physical fitness, their time serving, etc. I would have liked to see Aleksandr bond with Boyd over their common interests (which I honestly can’t think of any besides food); I felt like their relationship wasn’t really explored as much given their past and things just being implied.
There was a bit of an age gap. Aleksandr was early 20s (23?), Boyd was late 30s, and Lennox was around 33. Even though Aleksandr was home, we really didn’t see much of his family. I would have also liked to see more from Lennox and Boyd’s friends who they considered family. There were quite a few typos too. I wanted to like this so bad and while I appreciated the attempt and I liked each of the characters, I wasn’t really invested. Maybe 2 out of 5 stars.
Summary: It’s been three years since Prince Aleksandr and his bodyguard Boyd broke up, but they’re not over each other. Aleksandr had decided he’s tired of trying to get over Boyd—it’s time to get him back. At the same time, Lennox, a new guard in the castle, has set his sights on Boyd, too—and he’s not impressed by Aleeksandr, who seems to only be good at getting under his skin.
“For the record, I don’t usually strut around in my underwear in front of my employers.” “But you’ll do it in front of total strangers?” He takes a moment to stare at me, his eyes traveling up and down my body, drinking me in with undisguised appreciation. “Sexy Scottish strangers who look like they want to lick me all over? Absolutely.”
Review: This is a fun read. Aleksandr and Lennox push each other’s buttons while Boyd sits back and enjoys the show, along with the rest of us. When things heat up—hoo boy do they heat up! It’s lovely that there isn’t a lot of outside pushback on the relationship between these men—they are basically allowed to just deal with their own issues without worrying about what the world at large thinks. If you are looking for a low angst, high heat mmm romance—this is a fun one!
If I have any issues with this book, its that it’s too short. I would have liked to be shown more of Boyd’s relationships with Aleksandr and Lennox—separately, so we can see how he is falling for both men, and together, so we can see more of how they work as a triad.
This was sweet, lighthearted and hot. A really nice follow up to book 1. However I must admit that it has left me wanting more.
We have some enemies to lovers and second chance trope. Aleksander and Boyd have history - they used to be in love but when Boyd would not commit to a future together, they broke things off. Thing is, they never stopped loving each other.
Enter Lennox. New in palace, he is instantly attracted to Boyd and the chemistry goes both ways. But when Aleksander comes back, their little in fighting for Boyd's attention ends up having them have some hot angry sex.
And well, my main issue with this book is that the three of them don't get together - like properly throuple together - until like 80% in. Before then, there's some Aleksander + Boyd, Aleksander + Lennox and a little bit of Boyd + Lennox. Which, by the way, I think I may have accidentaly skipped the page where they actually decide to get together, because all I remember is them saying how attracted they are to each other, and in the next page they are hugging and Boyd is calling Lennox "love".
So yeah, very lighthearted and quick read. Will not set your world on fire. But i had been looking forward to reading this story since Jai's story. I just wished it had been longer and the author had spent a bit more time building the relationships between the 3 of them.
Three quite different men come together in what starts as a little bit complicated to build a relationship between the Prince of Korova (Aleksandr), the head of security (Boyd) and a new on loan security guard (Lennox). I really enjoyed the characters as individuals and what they build as couples and then as a triad. Aleksandr and Boyd have a history together with feelings still there but when Lennox comes over from the US to help watch over the King's children, there's no denying the attraction between him and Boyd and the fun of the slightly antagonistic relationship that starts between him and the prince. There's a different dynamic with each duo and then when they all come together as well. It's a sweet battle for Boyd's affection to start with and develops into so much more. I liked that it plays out alongside the same timeline of book one of the series, The King and Jai. There is fun, a good amount of heat and a good amount of emotional connections between the MC's. This was a romance that's really easy to enjoy and has quite a low angst level. I love Isla Olsen's writing and this is another hit from them. I received an ARC via Gay Romance Reviews and am happily giving a review.
This was confusing. So very confusing. I kept going back to see if I missed when the author gave us any indication the two guys competing for Boyd's heart found enough common ground to develop feelings for one another. She hadn't.
Those two characters also never talked about it and never even seemed to consider that Boyd might have strong feelings about them having sex behind his back. Seriously. "I love Boyd. I hate you. I'm working so hard to convince Boyd to choose me over you. Let's screw and act like it's not a big deal. " Also, there's just this moment where BAM! The characters look at each other and decide WE SHOULD BE A THROUPLE.
I often notice that type of poor writing in poly stories. It feels like the author is so intent on writing a poly story and convincing readers that poly relationships are valid that they don't give their stories the same consideration they give the characters in their other books. If authors want to spread the gospel about poly relationships, focus on telling great stories so readers become invested in those relationships and the characters in them.
After waiting so long to read this book, I was disappointed with several things in it. The annoying grammatical errors (how many times can we use it's instead of its), the fact that Boyd's coming out happened off page when it was a huge part of why he and Prince Alik broke up in the first place, and then Lennox and Prince Alik's random hooking up out of frustration that somehow led to them being in a solid, committed triad with Boyd so quickly--I just didn't see much of a real emotional connection develop between Lennox and Prince Alik or between Lennox and Boyd either from what was shown on page. Why was Lennox's first reaction to being unsatisfied with being a royal guard to be just giving up and going home instead of considering finding another job or as Boyd logically points out, fixing the whole thing in seconds, why not continue to work remotely for your security firm and just fly there when you need to have your boots on the ground for any sting operations back in America? It just could've been a better story.
I waited quite a while for this book, it was delayed several times. I love the first one. (The King and Jai) and there were several hints in the book about these three. But what I read was a constant stream of sex in various places between two of the men, the actual proper threesome was at the near end. Boyd came over as a nice guy if he would have stopped speaking in "scottish" all the time. I have Scottish friends and none does it to this extent with always the same words. Lennox - fun but that's basically it. Hardly any depth. Alexandr - could have been so much more. I actually thought he was a different guy compared to the first book. The timeline runs mainly paralell to the first book but apart from the odd glimps there was no interaction with the other characters, there was not really any story, mainly small plots to get two of the three naked again. There was no relationship built up, no discussion about how this will work and no view how the King and Country will react to it. I want Sebastian's HEA but I fear for what the author will butcher up next.
Ah finally got to read this book. Been waiting on this book to come out. Glad I got to read it. Definitely enjoyed this book. Not much I can say about this book. Lol
All I can say is that I figured that both Lennox and Alex was going to end up wanting each other. Because they had a hate for each other. Due to both of them liking Boyd. & both hated that each other wanted him. Whereas Boyd had a thing for them both.
It took for both Lennox and Alex to mess around with each other in order for them to worked things out with each other. That what ended with them all being a polyamorous relationship.. which lead them to marrying each other.
Besides all that dudeeeee I want to know if there’s going to be a book with Sebastian and Pascal not only that or Sebastian and Jules now that would be interesting. Though I never assumed that Jules was gay. Unlike Shep who may be or is…
Three’s a crown is a MMM romance and the second book of the Royal & Reckless series by Isla Olsen.
Lennox gets assigned to guard the Royal Family of Korova after he messed up a gig. There he meets Boyd, his new boss and head of security of the Royal Family. What he doesn’t count on is that his new love interest has a history with Prince Aleksandr, who returns to the Palace. The Past doesn’t stay in the past and so he has to fight for his newfound love interest. But what happens when Boyd can’t decide between them?
This book had well-written characters, a funny story wrapped up in an amazing location and with rivalry, love, and a lot of special moments. I liked it and I am looking forward to the next one in this series. I don’t recommend reading this one without having read the first book in this series first. It can be read as a standalone, but I don’t recommend it.
*I received this book as an ARC. I chose to leave an honest review.*
Three's a Crown it’s has a second chance, rivals-to-lovers romance. The chemistry between all three it’s amazing. I like that this is a low angst and super steamy. This book is the story of prince Aliksandr, Boyd his ex-boyfriend who also is head guard and Lennox the new guard at the palace. I liked the dynamics between them each one, it developed in a different relationship with each other’s, the three of them a so different but they complement each other. I don’t that there’s so little time together as a trio. They have more encounters separate and for a book with an MMM book, there wasn't a lot of scenes between all three of them, I would have love to see more how of them together.
Overall the book is good and entertaining, well written and funny, I like the rivalry between Alik and Lennox at first, the relationship between Boyd and Alik was so sweet and I definitely enjoy this book!
Three’s a Crown is a follow-up to The King and Jai and has a similar feel to it. It’s fun, flirty, and low angst. This book is an MMM romance with two different dynamics happening between Lachlan Boyd, the palace head guard, Prince Aleksandr (the King’s younger brother who shows up at the end of The King and Jai), and Lennox, the new security guard that reports to Boyd. Boyd is the center point of the triad. He had a past relationship with the Prince and has a love/hate relationship with his new employee Lennox. The dynamic between these three is interesting, complicated, yet somewhat implausible. I also didn’t feel the development of the triad and the individual relationship pairs within it was authentic. I enjoy Ms. Olsen’s writing but this series falls far short of the L&L series, so on the whole, it was a bit of a disappointment for me.
Aleksandr is a prince - and he's in love with one of his security guards, Boyd. The two men date in secret but ultimately break up when Boyd doesn't want to go public with their romance. After 3 years of avoiding each other, Aleksandr finally decides to come home and get the man he loves back.
He didn't realize he'd have to compete with Lennox, a new security guard on loan to palace who has managed to catch Boyd's eye. Boyd's not sure how to choose between the men - and he's wondering if he even has to.
This wasn't a deep, realistic look at polygamy, triads, royal life or even security work. What is it is a fast-paced, fun book with minimal conflict, three hot men, a great cast of supporting characters, and a HEA!
This was a sweet, low angst, easy read. I liked Aleksandr, Boyd and Lennox, and that each man brought something different to their relationships with the others and it worked well for their group dynamic. The side characters were interesting and added understanding and depth. My only issue with the book was the continual use of Scottish, I liked it as part of Boyd’s dialogue but not so much everywhere else and it frequently drew my attention away from what I was reading. Overall I enjoyed the story with its emotional moments and a few steamy ones too and I found it easy to read, even though I haven’t read book 1 yet and I can’t wait for the next story. I received a copy of this book from GRR to review and this is my honest and voluntary opinion.
I’m conflicted on this one. The story itself is good (I had a few niggles but overall it was good) but for me the relationship fell flat. I’m not sure if maybe it was just me but I whilst I felt the sexual attraction between Aleksandr, Boyd and Lennox I really didn’t particularly feel the emotional connection. I got it more between Boyd and the others but not so much between Aleksandr and Lennox. I think writing a triad (where you really get that connection coming through) can be hard and it didn’t quite get off the ground here. That being said, there was still a good core story here with some fun enemies to lovers and second chances tropes. It’s a good solid read and maybe others will feel more of a connection than me.
A wild ride. Very steamy, sexy and entertaining. Loved it from start to finish. A bratty Prince in love with a body guard. The Prince wanted the fairytale to come out, get married and have children. A reluctant body guard. So they end things between them. Neither one hasn't gotten over the other. After several years the Prince comes back to reclaim his bodyguard. Enter a new bodyguard Lennox, very attractive and sexy. Bodyguard Boyd finds himself drawn to Lennox. Prince Aleksandr realizes that he might have some competition and begins taunting Lennox. Taunting leads to more. Boyd finds himself attracted to both men. All three men are drawn to each other. Can the three men find the happiness they are after as a triad? I highly recommend.
So I truly enjoyed book one and here in lies the problem. This takes place during the Same Time as book one. I really really don’t like books that do this (even the epic fantasy ones) because a large part of the mystery and story (outside of figuring out how to have a polyamorous relationship) is gone. We already know what happens in the greater outside world. So this ends up being less story with spice and just kind of spice with background. And that’s sad because it would have been fun to see more story even if it was running around the countryside or trying to catch a bad guy or racing bikes. Something beyond just filling in the blanks we saw glimpses of in book one.
This author is a thief who's scammed tens of thousands of dollars from her readers selling them special edition books via Kickstarter that don't exist that she never delivers on (from two different accounts, since she was banned from doing it again after her first scam). For over a year she's been telling lie after lie, giving excuse after excuse to supportive readers who just want what they paid for.
Sweet, sexy, low angsty and second chances.... I'll be honest, this wasn't my favorite Isla Olsen book. I'm used to a more light hearted funny read but the story was OK nonetheless, I enjoyed these character individually I'm just not sure how I felt with the two having history from the first book....then adding another to an already complicated past?? it lacked something or felt unrealistic IMO. I'm 50/50 in this one.... the good news is..... the sexy bits were sexy 😉 I love me a good triad.
* I received An ARC from GRR, this is my open and honest review *
Lennox is being sent away for a bit after he made a small mistake during his last "babysitting" job, while he is exiled he meets Lachlan and Prince Aleksander. Lennox immediately wants to start something with Lachlan and can't really stand Aleksander. At least that is what he tries to tell himself, though a relationship starts to develop between the three men.
This book is taking place simultaneously as the first book, so you occasionally get bits of the first book from a different perspective which is nice, because you can see what else is going on in the palace. Lennox, Lachlan, and Aleksander are on fire, and watching them start to develop a relationship is fun.
3.5 stars rounded to 4. Three’s A Crown was a little disappointing for me. I enjoyed all of the men as separate couples, but I didn’t feel a connection to them as a triad. They spent very little time all together, and the relationship between Lennox and Aleksandr went from animosity to attraction almost out of nowhere. The writing is solid and there’s a lot of heat, but I struggled with the pacing and felt that the story lacked depth. I normally love Isla Olsen, but this one missed the mark for me.
I loved how these three came together. It's not easy to convince that a couple of ex's who are still in love with each other have room for one more that they can love in the same way as they do each other but here the author did a great job of bringing a connection with the third. While Lennox bonded with the Prince and Boyd separately and all of them together I would have loved to have seen a lot more throuple moments. Still enjoyed the read though and patiently waiting for Seb's story next.
