Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.
Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.
So many random things happened in this volume lol I get that the Adolla and the world were merging, but the absurdity of Tamaki's fight was something else. I appreciate Ohkubo's commentary about people's perception of others, but the fact that Tamaki fought and won with fan service is frustrating. 'Assault's' own fight against his doppelganger was funny at times, but in all, Ohkubo's decision to make Tamaki the epitome of sexual appeal takes away the hard work she put in.
I would say that this volume is separated into two parts; one that deals with Tamaki and the rest of the good guys, mainly Benimaru. Tamaki part was silly and quite amusing but I found it forced. The author tried to make the other characters relevant like Tamaki being the sign of life but Shinra and others are on a different dimension in terms of power level. The other part is actually what made me like the book. We get to see a lot of characters including Joker's doppelganger, Burns, and last but not least Benimaru's doppelganger. The fight between the strongest versus the strongest doppelganger was great. Benimaru has always been my favorite so it is no surprise I liked it. The ending was also good because of a plot twist. So, the first half was a bit weak but it quickly managed to catch my attention with the second half.
Doppelgangers of powerful "world builders" are roaming about, including Assault, Joker, and Benimaru.
The Assault fight... was bad. It felt like the author preaching at the reader, defending Tamaki's "Lucky Lecher Lure" by roughly saying that pervy thoughts are the reason life exists (cause sex?) and then EVERYBODY took off their clothes. I don't mind the pervy stuff, dude, it's just that Tamaki's whole purpose in this series has been to be "the sexy one". She has little to no character depth and I hate the Lucky Lecher Lure because it forces characters to be pervy whether they want to or not.
But the Benimaru fight was funny, because who could be Waka except Waka?
Then Shu and Shinra go to Adolla through the weird eyeball thing.
I really wished Tamaki got a genuine serious fight as it feels all of her fights are either her losing so she can be saved or her winning because of comedy. But this fight just went completely meta especially the part with the mom and her son. The fight goes into a full philosophical debate about sex appeal in manga and it was just odd and I guess it makes a good point but still wished that it would have turned down the meta a little bit. Also with Joker's fight was pretty cool just wished we got to see the full fight and the Benimaru fight was cool and funny at the same time especially how they explain how Benimaru wins.
Everybody is fighting their doppelganger and it's pretty cool, some of the battles end a little fast for my taste but they are still good. The action is insane in this volume. Tamaki gets to shine a little bit but the whole thing felt forced, the dialogue and all didn't land for me.
You know you are strong when not even human perception can match your strength. Benimaru best dude!
Overall: A weak start for volume 32 but it recovered.
First off: the speech on lewdness is amazing. Lots of ppl don't understand it as it is: lewd is desire to procreate, so... in another words, hope in the future. Beatifully done. Also, Benimaru fight is AMAZING. If you don't like that it ended in 1 page, you never understand Benimaru
tamaki and her lucky lecher lure saves the day. makes the fan service throughout all worth it. hahahaha. into Adolla we go. the finale is here. 2 volumes left.
9/10 the first part of this volume is all based on eroticism and embracing your body and being yourself. Tamaki fights assaults doppelgänger (the original lost to Tamaki because he saw her butt and cleavage) the doppelgänger doesn’t have this weakness and uses all of assaults true strength. Assault shows up and says because of Tamaki he became one with zero he’s no longer afraid of erotic ness. Everyone gets naked, licht says that ero is a form of hope because it creates potential for a future (aka babies) . All the hope weakened the dopplegangers despair and assault and Tamaki finish him. Juggernaut finally gets a date with Tamaki. Kurono runs into benimarus doppelgänger and gets beat tf up. Until he begs for the real Benimaru to tag into the fight. Evil Benimaru creates a huge flame wheel bigger than the og ever did, but the og takes him out with one swift strike. He complains that people must have a very weak image of him. He wants to change that. The rest is up to sho and Shinra. They enter adolla through the eye and see Haumea, she doesn’t hear evil voices anymore only the “voice of God” she asks Shinra and sho to end this world together with her and the volume ends.
