“ He is stitching her broken pieces together in ways she could never have for seen."

I was sincerely blown away by Noelle’s story. I appreciated the underlying themes of found family, acceptance and forgiveness too. C.C.Warrens wrote a story that impacted my faith as a believer in Jesus. Specifically a main character who is older and in in a season of grief and uncertainty in her life. Also,Noelle is a Black woman who comes from a loving two parent home and family. I resonated deeply with this aspect. I appreciated how the author handled the racial aspects- and not making this the foundation or focal point of the story. Unfortunately I see that happen in books so often and poorly executed in my opinion. But Firefly Diaries was so refreshing!

ANND THERE ISSSA MANNN!!😂🤣move over Mr. Darcy 😅😅🥰🥰(just kidding cuz who could replace him?!) Also being I am in an interracial marriage the love subplot hits right to the center of my heart. Reminded me so much of my husband and I in the beginning of our love 😭😭

Reading this story was a gift! 10/5 stars

Another fantastic read from one of my favorite authors! I have read four of C.C. Warrens' books so far and I won't stop til' they are all read. And I will read anything else she wants to write. Her mix of suspense and humor are unmatched. Her God given gift of writing and attention to detail is spot on. I can't wait to read the sequel.

Noelle buys a house to rehab far from memories she is trying to get past. Little does she know what she will encounter when the house holds scary secrets and a relative of the former owner who wants her gone is still lurking on the property. Learning who to trust is only half the battle. Deputy Derek and his sister prove friendly and reliable. But Noelle comes across a blue diary of a ten year old girl that contains more mysteries that could be connected to a missing college girl.
This is a well plotted, thrilling story with characters you can relate to. The evil is portrayed with sensitivity and faith is seen as solid and growing.
A new heroine from Ms. Warrens. We will hopefully see more of Noelle in future books.

Another great read by C.C. Warrens! This one is different than the author's previous Holly Novels, but you can still hear the author's unique voice in the story. This story follows Noelle from Seattle to small town Ohio, as she runs from the pain of her past and throws herself into the restoration of an old house, whose pictures online spoke to her. As strange things begin to happen at the house, she wonders if she's bitten off more than she can chew. While this book lacks the same level of intensity of some of the author's previous works, it makes up for it in mystery, unique characters and spiritual depth. This story speaks to trusting in God through the pain and learning to hear Him when He seems to be silent. This one does deal with some difficult subjects, but as usual, the author handles those with grace. There is some humor involved and even a light romance in this one. I enjoyed both the plot line and the characters immensely. Needing to know how things resolved kept me turning pages and I had a difficult time putting this one down. For fans of mystery/suspense and romantic suspense, this is one I would definitely recommend! Special thanks to the author for an advance e-copy of this book. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

This was not a Holly novel. This book had an entirely different feel to it and I have to admit, I liked it... a whole lot! The characters are certainly complex and loveable, the storyline will keep you up at night (I was up until 1 one night, reading). There are smattering of snicker-worthy banter between the main characters.
It's another win/win book from a gifted author.

Wow, this was a page turner! There was a lot going on that kept me on the edge of my seat! I loved all of the characters. The mystery was solid. And the threads of Christianity and romance perfect.

Trigger warning: it deals with child loss and s*x abuse

This is listed as a Christian Mystery. I've read a number of "Christian" novels, because I like stories with a Christian spiritual message, and there are varying degrees of how many Christian elements are in a story. This one has bits and pieces where the character speaks about praying or trusting God, but it is less rather than more, so I would say it is nominal. As far as the story, it is not a formula story except in one aspect - the boy meets girl, the attraction and I don't want to tell you how the relationship develops, but you might be able to guess. Otherwise, the story runs in different directions and some of them are disturbing (I would like to tell you what's disturbing, but it would give away some possible surprises). The main character Noelle buys an old derelict house sight unseen (who does that??) because she wants and needs a big change after tragedy in her life. She finds a diary written by a young girl called Firefly. She reads the diary in bits and pieces and ponders what it means. I have to tell you, I easily figured out what it meant by the time she was halfway through reading the diary (I won't give it away). Surprisingly neither she nor the other main character Derek, a police officer, figured it out until near the end of the book. Regardless, there are a lot of things that go on in and around this old derelict house she purchased. She has no electricity or running water and the place has a morbid history - none of which she seemed to know when she bought it. You do have to suspend a bit of belief for some of these type things that happen. BUT, overall, it is a book that kept my attention, moved at a good speed, had other interesting characters and numerous "happenings" in a short period of time. I liked both main characters as well. If you want something different, this might be for you.

4.5! Such good suspense and kindness all mixed together! Only not a 5 because I would have love a bit more to the ending, but also know the book is ending to where book two can start up! Absolutely one of my favorite authors!!

WOW

Just finished this one and I have to say I may have found my new favorite author! I’m a historical fiction lover, but this makes me want to pick up more contemporary books. This is my first C.C book but definitely have to check out her others!! I pray this is not a stand alone, as I’d like to know more about these characters. Mrs. Warrens is an excellent writer, I was immediately sucked in and I didn’t want to put it down!!

Side note. I bought the book because of the cover and C.C. Warren’s many mentions in the Avid Christian fiction readers group. while not a necessity in my reading it was so refreshing to read about a character that looked like me without the book being about slavery, prejudice or injustice. Just a God fearing brown woman who finds her people. Highly recommended! Five stars!!

OVERALL STAR RATING: 5/5
CLEAN RATING: 5/5

I’m sure by now you’ve all seen and heard me go on and on about how much I adore the Holly novel series by C.C. Warrens – well, as sad as I was to have caught up on all of those books, I couldn’t wait to dive into the first book of her Cherry Creek series. You guys, I am telling you – this woman knows how to write! If you’re looking for a seriously spooky book to add to your October TBR, but want a story free of spice and cursing, this one is for you! C.C. Warrens has such a gifted way of weaving Christian values within the dark and deep topics she writes about. This is suspense, mystery and even a bit thriller all rolled into one. Expect blood, murders, torture and extremely complicated pasts in her books, but also expect redemption, found family, hope and faith. As I said, this book feels especially perfect for the upcoming spooky season – 100% haunted house vibes!

Noelle is drowning in the grief of having had to bury her son and while unsure of how to carry on in life, she decides to purchase an old, abandoned house, sight unseen. It’s clear that she was desperate for a fresh start…a renovation project sounded like a good idea. It doesn’t take long before Noelle realizes this purchase may have just been one of the biggest mistakes she’s ever made. Numerous rumors of the house being haunted flood the little town in which she now resides. Mysterious things start happening on and around her property and she begins receiving threats to leave. Noelle feels compelled to stay and with the help of Derek, her new sheriff friend, they try to solve the horrific happenings that seem tied to her home purchase.

Missing girls, a mysterious diary found in the woods, crazed and creepy neighbors and a whole lot of blood will keep you turning the pages in this wild story. Pick this one up – I dare you! 😉

I read this book in less than 24 hours. I was caught up in the story from the very first page.
Noelle, buys a house, that was part of an auction, sight unseen, other than a few pictures online. The locals, tell her the house is haunted, and she starts to believe them, when she hears noises and an old man tries to scare her away. This book was creepy and I couldn't stop reading it. This is my first book by C.C. Warrens. I plan to read more books by the author.

This book is a departure from the author's previous suspense novels. This one is closer to cozy mystery. As usual with CC Warrens writing - the book draws you on chapter by chapter. Strong writing and realistic relationships. Hoping that there will be follow-up stories.

This book needs more than 5 stars!
“Every old house had a story, written by the people and events that unfolded within its walls. This house, Noelle suspected, ended on a dark chapter.”

Oh. My. Word!
That line truly set the stage for this book. I was captivated from the very first page until the end. It’s the kind of story you can’t believe, or don’t want to believe, is real. It touches on some pretty heavy issues that are happening in our world right now. However, the author does a fantastic job of delicately unwrapping the truth of what is happening and bring a grip-your-seat tale to life!

This story at times was very hard to read because of the subject matter, and the pain some innocent children and other people go through. I know life around me isn’t all rosy and at times I want to not think about it. However, I appreciate what this author has done in this story. It shows the hard life many have to deal with and the pain they face each day.

I will read more books by CC Warrens. She paints the picture of what is out there and what we as people need to be aware of. CC Warrens didn’t sugarcoat her story. It is hard-hitting and gritty.
This book not only has action, tension, mystery, and suspense but there is a bit of romance.
If you love to read books that will keep you spellbound until the very end then this is the book for you.
I highly recommend you put this book up and read it. I was given this book by the author which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’m a huge fan of C.C. Warrens and the thought of a new book just made me so excited. I was a bit skeptical about reading a book that didn’t involve Holly, but she did a great job of creating new characters and a non-stop storyline that kept me guessing from the first page!

The main character, Noelle, had suffered some trauma and wanted a new start. That new start involved a very old—bordering on haunted—house. The prologue sets the stage for mystery and the first chapter will keep you turning the page until the epilogue. Wow! I was kept guessing the whole time and I totally fell in love with Noelle and the new characters in the small village of Cherry Creek, Ohio.

This sums up the book for me: Noelle says God was stitching her broken pieces together in ways she could never have foreseen and the whole book is full of unforeseen moments, plots, and God using each one of them to work in their lives. Great story, great mystery, great characters!

This appears to be a stand-alone novel, but I would love to revisit these characters in another book soon!

Thank you, C.C. Warrens, for an advance e-copy of this book. I was under no obligation to provide a review and all my thoughts in this review are my own.

C. C. Warren's does not disappoint! This book kept me turning pages as quick as I could, to get to the bottom of the mystery. At one point I stopped and went back and re-read the beginning of the book. It kept me very engaged! It deals with a sick reality we live with today in our world, but in a tactful way. (You will understand...read it!) I started the book thinking it was going in one direction but it didn't. When it all came together it made sense how something like this could actually happen, unfortunately.
If you are looking for a good mystery that keeps you guessing with a hint of romance, you will not be wasting your time with this book. I will be anxiously awaiting her next one.

Five stars aren't enough, neither are the words of my review. After I finish a great story, I'm always at a loss of how to accurately describe how much I am affected by it.

Firefly Diaries is incredible. Quick-paced, flawed & relatable characters, impactful message and faith, redemption, mystery; this story offers it all. The suspense and writing is top notch. I was kept guessing on the edge of seat until the very end, unable to tear my eyes away from the page until I had answers. I immediately want to pick up more from this author.

Wow. Highly reccomend.

I've thoroughly enjoyed this author's Holly series but wasn't so sure about a standalone. Nevertheless, when it came out, I couldn't resist--NOT DISAPPOINTED! Loved the way she tied a haunted house, murder, a grieving mother, sex trafficking, and a little girl's diary together in an explosive, hard-to-put-down story. Loved the gently unfolding attraction between Noelle and Derek, the captain of the sheriff's department. C.C. Warrens unique writing style and her ability to keep it light despite heavy topics is a winning combination.

3.5 stars. Firefly Diaries by C.C. Warrens is an amusing thriller, filled with suspense, a budding romance, and mystery. The novel is adequately paced, which renders a page-turning read. Intriguing characters engages the reader, while the plot contains Christian content, along with an amusing narrative, that fuels the interest of the reader.

Firefly Diaries is comprised of two protagonists, who also provide the point of views in the story. A native of Seattle, Noelle is seeking a change of pace in her life, following the tragic loss of her son and a disappointing relationship. Drowning in grief and despair, she makes a rash decision to purchase a home through an online auction and finds herself suddenly moving to a small country village in Ohio. Upon arriving, she realizes that the house she purchased is in worser condition than she expected. However, the dilapidated home will become the least of her concerns when she discovers that the house possesses many secrets and has attracted some enemies. A random discovery of an item behind her home as well as the occurrence of some disturbing events, results in Noelle facing life-threatening experiences.

Derek Dempsey is the captain of the sheriff’s department in the small town of Ohio. He is a kind-hearted man with an integral character, that is fully committed to his role to serve and protect the citizens in the town. Most of his time is spent working, since he is a single man who years prior, experienced the loss of a marriage. When he meets Noelle, he is struck by his desire to protect her from troublesome events at her home. Derek and Noelle each spark in each other a budding connection which cultivates hope and emotional healing.

Firefly Diaries is a well written novel, with interesting characters and an entertaining plot. Although the story is immersive, there were occurrences of unlikely events that created some doubtful thoughts concerning the plot. This influenced how I viewed the overall story. I was pleased with the way in which the author integrated Christian faith filled content within the story. The main characters were both believers in Jesus, who were depicted consistently relying on their faith during questionable moments and challenging situations. Ultimately, I enjoyed this novel and would recommend this book to anyone who likes suspenseful stories, with minimal violence and gore, and with a touch of romance.

"One thing she new for certain was that something strange was going on in this village, and it was beginning to feel like her house was at the center of it - . . . . "

Seeking refuge in a new place to start her life all over again, Noelle McKenzie purchases an old, dilapidated house in rural Ohio through an online auction, thinking that a physical, mental, and emotional renovation is just what her broken heart needs. Upon arrival, she is shocked at the structure's actual appearance, it seems the old house has a story to tell, and it's not a happy one.

Before Noelle can even get unpacked, she is warned away and calls local law enforcement to make sure of her safety. When Captain Derek Dempsey arrives from the sheriff's department to clear the house, his review of local lore doesn't make Noelle feel any safer, but it does give her perspective. The story only gets curiouser and curiouser, and a lot more minacious. . . . . especially when she stumbles upon a small girl's (who calls herself Firefly) journal.

"Was God her Firefly, trying to shed light into the darkness that had consumed her life? Was He whispering words that she couldn't hear? . . . . "

Such a good story on multiple levels! The word flow and chapter structure keeps the fast pace and raw edges flowing smoothly and effortlessly. The characters, while quite unique, are equally authentic. The setting, that appears so sinister in the beginning, mirrors life itself. . . redeemable.

Plus! Good luck figuring out what is really going on in the old Bechtel house.

C.C. Warrens has written a gripping, clean story about a suspense writer who is experiencing her own high-octane mystery.

Noelle has suffered personal tragedy and enough gaslighting to set a town on fire. That’s what drives her to make an impulse buy of a house for auction several states away from where she currently lives.

When she arrives at her new house on the outskirts of a small Ohio village, she finds that its condition was adequately disclosed. Nor was the fact that it is someone’s ancestral home, and he’s adamant that she has no business on his family’s property.

When someone opens a window she had locked, then kicks in her locked back door, she calls the local police for help. Derek is not who she expects, and she keeps telling herself she has no business being attracted to the handsome captain, but her heart isn’t listening.

Book Quote: Derek arrived before the ambulance. The front door of the house stood wide open, but he’d seen her close it before he left. Fear darted through him and he drew his sidearm as he sprang from the car.”

Together they work to find a missing teen and stumble upon much more than they expected.

Let me just say, if you think you have this figured out, you don’t.

This is, without question, a 5-star read. It’s fast-paced with well developed characters and a compelling plot. Add Firefly Diaries to your tbr!

What a great read! CC Warrens does a great job of bringing a very difficult topic to light in this engaging suspense novel. I laughed, I cried, I gritted my teeth, and found myself praying for every girl who lives out this story in this cruel, evil world.

I loved the characters and the complexity of their past hurts and how they each dealt with pain and loss. As an aspiring author myself, Noelle being an author was fun, especially as she used storyboarding techniques to uncover the mystery. I will say she seemed a bit too brave for my believability meter. I can’t imagine anyone staying in a house alone, especially overnight, after what she experienced there. I kept asking, “Why isn’t Derek inviting her to stay in his spare room? How can he just walk away and leave her there alone?” He didn’t even offer and her turn him down.

Aside from that small issue, this was a page-turner that kept me guessing and reading way too late into the night. Once I got to the last third of the book, I couldn’t stop reading until I finished it.

This author’s Holly series was one of my favorites and this book is going on that favorites shelf as well. If you enjoy Christian suspense and real-life issues, don’t miss this one.

😲REVIEW TIME😲

To say this book shocked me , is a HUGE understatement!

@c.c._warrens took me on a wild ride from synopsis to THE END.

We are instantly thrown into Noelle’s story as she buys a house that people in town suspect is haunted(you said it’s a Christian 🤔, keep reading the review mkay.)

At the same time Noelle moves in she’s confronted by an old family member of the previous homeowner. Bless his heart he has a secret! Let me tell you Walt is the underdog! He’s protecting his family home all while carrying his grief and pain.

I don’t want to give spoilers.

Noelle has to call the police because some strange things are happening and someone has kicked the door in!

Well of course Mr.Deputy is a cutie and there isn’t instant love because he has some grief and pain to work through too.

Fast forward ONE DAY. And these two are thrown into a murder/kidnapping mystery. They start to become each others comfort and work towards finding out who is tormenting Noelle and why are these girls missing.

The Faith in this book is from the beginning! C.C Warrens made me gasps and highlight so much that I think I have a new favorite mystery author!

WELL DONE IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT 👏🏾 👏🏾

So I have never read any of C.C. Warrens’ books… until now. I had no idea on what I was missing out! Her suspense is amazing, letting out just the right amount of clues to keep you guessing!
Firefly Diaries is such a fantastic book on so many levels! I like that the romantic interest in the book seemed natural and wasn’t the focal point, yet meshed in with the character’s lives. Often times, books don’t have a lot of substance to them. In this novel, there is a story to be told on a serious topic and Warrens does that with sensitivity and finesse. The characters come to life and although, I wanted to find out what happened in the end, I didn’t want it to end. The plot was woven through the lives of the characters intersecting in such a believable way. I couldn’t put the book down and read it from start to finish in less than twenty-four hours. I will be checking out C.C. Warrens other novels!

Another Gem by Warrens

I was so excited when I saw that C. C. Warrens had a new book coming out. I have loved her characters, her humor, the way faith is woven through her books, and the way she addresses real life issues.

Although I missed Holly and the gang (even though there was a very brief reference), I enjoyed getting to know a new set of characters. This book had a mystery that I only partly figured out before the end, some romance, and intriguing characters who dealt with past hurts in very real ways. In this book, faith is a process and is not treated like a band-aid that will magically cover up hurts and losses.

This book dealt with some touchy issues, but I did not find it as intense as the Holly books. Fans of authors like Christy Barritt will enjoy this book. I’m hoping we don’t have to wait too long for the next C.C. Warrens novel!

I received a free copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

I decided to give this a 4.5-star rating. I really enjoyed the story. The characters were amazing, the plot was intriguing and I found myself not wanting to put the book down. The reason I can't give it a full five is because the mystery aspect lost me when all the parts started to collide. It felt like a lot was going on and I couldn't wrap my head around all of it.

Noelle was an interesting character and her story was amazing. Derek was a solid character. Walt confused me. Brian pissed me off. Firefly was adorable.

This story deals with heavy topics of and more. Please be aware of that before going into this book.

The faith aspects were so amazing. I enjoyed the wisdom that Derek shared every now and then and watching Noelle come to realizations with her own faith.

I am excited to start the sequel within the next few days.
