He walks the red carpet. She’s more familiar with vacuuming one.

When a scandal tarnishes the reputation of hot as hell A-lister, Patrick Walsh, he needs a reputation rescue, pronto.

Enter waitress Norah Peers–a nobody who’s average with a capital A. She’s available, dependable, and has sworn off men for the rest of her natural born life. In other words: the perfect match for a no-strings fake romance.

For the right amount of money, she can avoid waitressing and play the part of his dependable down-to-earth girlfriend. What she can’t avoid–dammit–is the growing steam between them.

But being hounded by the paparazzi and having your life dissected on social media is a panic attack in the making. And while Patrick might be a charming rogue on screen, in real life he’s a six-foot-two confusing, gorgeous, brooding grump, who keeps her at a distance . . . but also makes her feel like this bond between them might be more than just an act.

Being dumped on cue should be no big deal. Except being fake with Patrick is the realist relationship Norah has ever had. What’s a girl to do, but flip the script, and ask for a rematch made in Hollywood?

“I’d rather your worst than anyone else’s best.”

it's not common for me to fall in love with female protagonists in contemporary romances. but Norah? i would date her if i could. even though she's the epitome of kindness, she is a funny, outgoing, and smart woman who doesn't let anyone run over her. (funny is my kryptonite, yes) and it’s also pretty rare for me to literally burst out laughing while reading. like, if something is funny, I just smile, but my woman has the perfect comebacks and fire repartee, plus, a great sense of sarcasm. this book is my go-to whenever I want to have a good time. the characters are so lovable and the reading process is effortless because the romance is one if the cutest things i’ve read, it's kind of a slowburn in the "kylie scott-land" but has the perfect pass. it has some action and a little bit of drama. all in all, it's the perfect plate cleanser and definitely one of my favorite comfort books.

"you liked that I gave you your space.”[…]

“but that’s not why I kept going back. I did that because I wanted to get to know you. so I’d sit near the back of the restaurant where you tended to hang out doing things and I’d just kind of see if today was the day." […]

“never really told you that before, did I?”

“no,” I said, “you didn’t.“

First things first, I need to say that Kylie Scott is one of my go to romance writers whenever I need to read something nice, light, funny, sweet - you get the gist. I know for a fact that even the worst she can do will still be pretty good for me.

So with that in mind, I’ll say that I liked this book. Not loved but liked. Overall it was exactly what I thought it would be and the only place I found it lacking was in the chemistry between the leads. Not to say, that there was none, but something just didn’t click for me.

The main characters were pretty typical. He was a man of few words, she was blunt, honest and not impressed by his wealth and success. It was his abs and irresistible smile that did it for her lol. She was “not like other girls” BUT it didn’t come off in that problematic way we see everywhere.

I’d say it was a bit of a Cinderella story but much less dramatic. Realistic!? Not at all! But I was looking to escape reality so that worked great for me.

One thing I always appreciate in Kylie’s stories is that there isn’t any over the top drama even if the setup of the stories themselves is unlikely. Also, the characters always feel very human and real in their interactions and dialogue.

This wasn’t one of my favourite books by her but it was a good, quick little read.

Fake is one of those books that left a smile on my face from start to finish. Such a sweet, fun, and feel good read. Honestly, there wasn't a thing I didn't love about this book. When I heard this was a fake dating/modern day Cinderella story I was here for it. I couldn't have loved it more

Norah is a waitress who occasionally waited on the famous action film star Patrick Walsh. When she overhears a conversation about his publicist trying to set him up with someone who can clean up his image, she's intrigued but minds her own business. Until Patrick brings her into said convo. Although he doesn't know Norah, he knows she's never asked him for a selfie or leaked his location and that's better than a lot of folks around Hollywood.

Norah is to play Patrick's down to earth girlfriend for the foreseeable future and will be well compensated. Neither one of them expect to become friends or for sparks to fly, but that seems to happen naturally between them. Norah was so relatable and genuine. You couldn't help but root for her and want her to have everything. She and Patrick seemed like they couldn't be more different, but they actually had more in common and wanted similar things for their life than one would guess.
“You’re being so difficult about it.”
“I’m the worst, it’s true.”
“Yeah, well . . .” He sighed. “I’d rather your worst than anyone else’s best.”

I loved watching these two turn from absolute strangers to close friends to so much more. I'm a sucker for a great friends to lovers romance and that was my favorite thing about this book. I also loved watching Norah with Patrick's family and friends and Patrick with Norah's gran. This whole book was just... gah! Low angst, lovable, and a new favorite!

As you can tell, I absolutely adored this book. If you're in the mood for a romance that will make you swoon, smile, and sweep you off your feet, pick up Fake!

⟶ im so obsessed with them 🥹🎀

🌻 “I’d rather your worst than anyone else’s best.” 🌻

im gonna mini review this bc i just can’t help myself. the book follows patrick and norah, a hollywood actor and a waitress. norah works at this little cafe and it’s not the most popular but for some reason patrick LOVES it. he goes there very often to hide from the paparazzi and just enjoy some peace and quiet.

one day, he gets into a scandal, and his publicist or manager or something starts freaking out. to solve the issue, he has to fake date someone to fix his reputation and show that he has settled down and changed his ways.

WHO DOES HE FAKE DATE, YOU MAY ASK!?! our precious girly norah DUHH🤭🤭 and surprise, surprise, they fall helplessly in love~~ their story was so damn cute and he’s “grumpy” but he is never EVER rude to her as it should be 💞

🌷this book has some of my all time favourite tropes🌷
this includes:

⌗ celebrity romance (actor x waitress)
⌗ grumpy x sunshine
⌗ one bed trope
⌗ forced proximity (they have to live together)
⌗ fake dating

like tell me these aren’t the best tropes ever. you can’t.

all in all, I HIGHLY recommend this book 🥹
it’s a perfect palette cleanser and just overall super adorable and swoon-worthy. it lacks depth, which is why I didn’t give it a 5. you don’t get to know too much about the characters or their background so it is one of those silly romances you just read for funsies and not get really attached. but that is exactly what I requested, and i am so so happy it delivered PERFECTLY 🙈

also, his name is patrick, and when I tell you no matter how hard I tried, this is all I could picture. which is not great when you’re trying to read a romance book and fall for the mmc but whatever 💀💀

APART FROM THAT I REALLY ENJOYED IT <33
that’s all. happy reading pookies 🍍🍍

also idk why but my underline feature doesn’t show on the app so im really annoyed bc my review just looks bad now without it 🙄

“What if I mess up and people think you’re an idiot for dating me?” I asked.
“Fuck ’em.”

Kylie Scott is an author that’s on my auto-buy list. The Stage Dive series, as well as Repeat, are absolute favorites of mine... I reread them every year and I’m always stalking her Instagram page to see what new book she’s working on, so I was super excited for this one! Fake was a very character driven story that definitely delivered in the fake-relationship department!

Plot:

When Hollywood Star, Patrick Walsh (36) is caught up in a scandal that makes a dent in his career, his agent comes up with a plan to do some serious damage control. And what better way than to get a fake girlfriend to show the world that you’re reformed?

Enter Norah Peers (30) – an honest, hardworking waitress who works at a restaurant Patrick frequents. When Norah accepts his crazy request to be his fake girlfriend, together they navigate their newfound fake-relationship in a ruthless world of A-listers and paparazzi’s. But along the way, things don’t feel so fake anymore…

Characters

He sighed. “Norah . . .”
“Yes, Patrick?”
“You always just speak your mind like that?”
“It’s one of my more charming qualities.”

Norah was such a lovable heroine. She was honest, down to earth and a bit of a plain Jane. She reminded me of Clem from Repeat, another one of Kylie Scott’s heroines I absolutely adore. She doesn’t have much of a filter and has a no BS personality which is great because with her, there’s not much room for silly miscommunication. I also loved her little rambles and the way she caught Patrick off guard.

Patrick was basically the perfect hero for me because I LOVE quiet heroes! He’s a man of very few words and just tad bit broody. I loved his intensity, but it was the shift in the way he saw and treated Norah that really won me over. His protectiveness over her safety and her happiness was so endearing.

The secondary characters were also quite a lot of fun. I’m assuming Patrick’s friends, Cole and Jack, will probably be getting their own books. Norah’s grandmother was such a scene stealer! ALL HAIL GRAN!

The Romance

“And when I make him smile, even the tiniest bit, I feel like a fucking champion.”

Despite this story’s predictability, their fake relationship had me on the edge of my seat. Every touch, every caress, every kiss had me squealing and smiling like a lovesick fool. The romance felt so real, and I love how Norah and Patrick came together so naturally. Despite the push and pull between them, it didn’t feel angsty at all but rather a perfect mix of sweet, sexy, and wholesome. Of course the forced proximity trope also came into play! But really, it made me so happy to see their relationship develop and it was incredibly heart-warming to see them be vulnerable with each other.

Other thoughts / Criticisms:

I wasn’t bothered by the fact that the story was told solely through Norah’s POV. This will probably be a bit annoying for some readers, but it didn’t feel like I was constantly trying to figure out what Patrick was thinking. Eh, I liked it! It was clear when he was jealous…

Okay, now onto my main criticism… Unfortunately, this book really needed an epilogue. Despite the cute ending, it felt like it ended quite abruptly. I’m sure these two will make a few more appearances in the next few books but I personally prefer a solid HEA – I would classify this more as a HFN.

Word of warning… I don’t think this book is going to be for everyone. If you prefer a bit of drama and angst in your romances, you might end up being disappointed with this book. The pacing of the story was rather monotonous; there's no big climatic moment. The ending was definitely a bit lacklustre… but after reading books with so much drama lately, it was definitely a nice reprieve for me. And I guess you could argue that the story feels more realistic that way?

There were also some other illogical things… but I won’t go into it ‘cause I’m trying to keep this review spoiler free. All in all, if you’re looking for a low-angst fake-relationship romance definitely check out Fake! It was a very charming, feel-good read, and I will definitely be carrying on with the West Hollywood series.

4 Cost of Fame Stars ⭐

According to his agent, Movie Star Patrick Walsh needs a fake girlfriend. When a scandal almost tanks his career, he finds himself without options. With his hands tied, the least he can do is choose his own candidate.

They couldn't compete with how pure and true our love is. Why we make Cinderella and Prince Charming look like a pair of losers.

Norah is a waitress working multiple jobs to support Gran and herself. When Patrick offers her a 'job opportunity' which will solve her money woes, it also introduces her to an alternate universe. One where bloodthirsty paparazzi are the norm and 5 carat engagement rings are just another day at the office...

Let the record show, my fake smile was once again way better than Patrick's. And he called himself an actor. What a loser.

Yet through a fake relationship, Norah provides Patrick with lightness he's been missing for a long time. Her wittiness and selflessness compliments his gentle, subdued nature. And a real friendship is born. This is while trying to navigate the intricacies of coupledom.

"Cupcake? Oh no. There's no way I'm answering to that."

"No?" A small smile graced his mouth. And just for a moment there was him and me and some breathing room. Thank God for that. "But you're sweet as a cupcake. Pretty as one."

I laughed. "It's awful. But thank you for the compliments."

I enjoyed this immensely. I appreciated the slower pace due to their extraordinary circumstances. It felt organic as we got to know both characters while Patrick and Norah got to know each other. I found their interactions and banter amusing. I spent the entire time anticipating the moment when their relationship became real. If you're in the mood for a charming rags to riches love story, this was so good!

"You can have whatever you want from me."
description

Fake is the first book in the West Hollywood Series. Patrick Walsh is an A-List Actor who has it all. But even good looks, talent, and charm cannot save him from the scandal he finds himself the center of. In order to get back into the good graces of the entertainment industry, his agent decides he needs to find himself a new girlfriend in order to distract the paparazzi. Norah Peers is a waitress working hard to support her grandmother. When Patrick proposes that Norah become his new fake "girlfriend", the offer is simply too good for her to refuse. However, when Norah and Patrick find their attraction to one another transforming from fake to very real, what will they do?

description
"Just in case this all goes to hell and I say the wrong thing and you never want to talk to me again. I enjoyed every moment with you."
Told in Norah's POV, Fake is a deliciously sweet read full of passion and romance. Patrick is quite broody and Norah makes a perfect match for him. The writing is fluid and this is one of those reads that you cannot put down until you have read every last sentence. The passion is smoking hot and the ensemble of characters offers rich entertainment from the first moment to the last!
"You can have anything and everything you want from me."
Overall, Fake will appeal to readers who enjoy a modern Cinderella story with a Hollywood twist! I have been a fan of Kylie Scott for a long time and this series promises to be another blockbuster series that my KINDLE and I will be very happy to devour!

This is a quick easy read, but everything happened too fast giving me almost no time to assimilate what happened before another big event occured.

It had your typical clichés that comes by fake dating a big Hollywood actor with some added sprinkles of OTT drama.
But there’s the only-one-bed trope which I am a sucker for 😍

I wish we got dual POV, because the hero at the beginning was behaving in a very strange manner, making it impossible to read him.
And also, no epilogue 😭 Just please give me the most basic epilogue were the MCs have tons of babies in their picket fence house and I will be the happiest reader, but give me something!

Patrick Walsh is practically Hollywood royalty. He's been part of the elite crowd in LA since he hit it big as a movie star. He's talented, famous, and extremely private. Image is everything in the industry, so when gossip about a recent scandal he was linked to is all over social media, he must revive his career by repairing his reputation. He needs a distraction to divert attention to something else. Enter new mystery woman Norah Peers. Fake dating a normal girl nobody knows about is the perfect publicity stunt. The only problem is he's not supposed to want her. Can he control his attraction before everything gets too complicated?

Norah Peers is a waitress in Los Angeles who is offered a deal too good to pass up. Put her life on hold, and get paid to share space with rumored playboy Patrick Walsh. She was a huge fan of his action films, and thought he was devastatingly handsome. How hard could it be to make people believe her and the Hollywood heartthrob were an item. Then she's thrust into the spotlight and living a life of luxury. She has to keep reminding herself this is a business arrangement and nothing more, but soon she's crushing on her hot celebrity boss. While keeping up the charade things suddenly start to feel all too real. Their playing pretend while making headlines. Is it all an act, or will their connection lead to something more?

-My thirst for this man was real, despite all of our lies.

-Patrick Walsh up close letting loose the full force of his good looks and charisma was nothing short of dazzling.

-That smile... holy shit. My heart basically gave up and just handed itself over.

-"Norah, I want to be here with you more than I want my next damn breath."

Fake (West Hollywood #1) by Kylie Scott is a friends to lovers, slow burn, fake relationship, Hollywood romance where opposites attract and chemistry explodes. I really loved this book and these characters! Norah is just amazing!!! She's kind, funny, quirky, genuine and knows her worth. Then there's Patrick. <333 He's sexy, swoony perfection that is slowly revealed one layer at a time. I just adored this couple together. Their bond was beautiful and between the humor and fabulous banter, I couldn't put this book down! I can't wait for more stories from this world!

So, I had a lot of doubts walking into this one. I love the idea of it, I’m always a fan of a good Cinderella type story. Unfortunately every time I’ve tempted to read one they’ve been a major let down.

I’m only 11% in but I’m loving the low key, down to earth feel of Patrick Walsh. I like his quiet awkwardness. Norah is great too with a sarcastic sense of humor and an easy going nature. I can sense even though their chemistry is clumsy at best right now that it’s bound to grow slowly but surely and that’s perfect. It’s real which is exactly what our H was looking for in an “average” girl.

For so long I avoided slow burns and I forgot how great they are. How sexy. The littlest things like brushing the back of her neck or thumbing sugar off of her lip is irresistibly hot.

His hunt for the right pet name might be the most charming thing ever.

Norah’s grandmother is a spitfire and adorably protective. The fact that Patrick agreed to go toe to toe with her wasn’t only endearing, it was sexy af.

My one and only complaint; I want his POV. At the same time I know it would take away from the slow burn but that doesn’t change the fact that I crave his inner monologue.

Is there a book about Jack? Not normally a fan of rockstar romance but I’d make an exception for him.

Oh man, this was too flipping cute! I really didn’t want it to end.

”The thing is, I’d finally met a man who not only liked me, but he supported me and said he was proud of me. He actually listened when I got verbal diarrhea. Too bad we were fake.”

This was my first novel by Kylie Scott and I personally think she did a pretty good job. I liked the setting of the book and though I think that this one was a little too predictable and cliché, I had fun cause i was looking for an easy and light-hearted read.

”When it came to Patrick, you got the sense that there was a lot going on beneath the surface. He was just better at hiding his thoughts and feelings than most.”

Patrick Walsh is a Hollywood heartthrob. He was recently in a media scandal and needed a fake girlfriend to help him with his reputation and then he meets Norah. Paddy annoyed me a lot first, not gonna lie. I found him to be a little too quite?? I mean he hardly had dialogues early in the book lol but thank god, it changed soon. I liked how he listened to Norah and how his and Norah’s relationship developed.

Norah is a waitress. What I loved about her was the way she would just start rambling stuff when things got awkward which i relate to a lot because my dumbass loves to embarrass myself. I loved her personality. Norah wasn’t really a huge fan of Paddy but i loved how she couldn’t help but appreciate the male specimen😂

“Norah, I want to be here with you more than I want my next damn breath.”

Overall, this was a quick and easy read. I felt like the storyline was rushed and chapters were too long but I enjoyed it.

Would recommend if you’re in mood for a lighthearted, cliché, quick and easy read.

Swoony, sweet and SO well-written. The wit just jumps off the page. I loved the heroine. She was relatable without being a doormat and Kylie Scott really nailed the sort of elusive "Omg that's a celebrity" aura surrounding Patrick.

This book was light and fun but not without its depth and heartfelt emotion. Just what I needed. <3

Happy sigh...I so needed this book! This was the perfect, sweet beach read. I’ve had MANY of this author’s books on my TBR for years. I know, I know...I am kicking my own butt over here!

This is a modern-day Cinderella retelling of a waitress who gets swept up by an A-list actor in a fake dating arrangement to save his tarnished reputation.

22858459

Right away, I could tell this author writes some sassy heroines with sharp wit. I loved Norah’s character. Even though she was thrown into this crazy Hollywood world overnight, she held her own when she needed to. And Patrick is a grumpy, brooding hero who has been burned one too many times and is unsure of himself when it comes to relationships.

These two went from strangers to friends to more. Their chemistry was sizzling from the beginning and their banter was hilarious. If you love the friends to lovers trope, this is a great one. It’s is a fun, light-hearted, feel good romance filled with laughs and swoons.

"I’m the worst, it’s true.”
“Yeah, well . . .” He sighed. “I’d rather your worst than anyone else’s best.”

29389856

My only complaint is that it didn’t have an epilogue because it seriously needed one! But seeing that this is the beginning of a series, fingers crossed that we’ll be getting more from Norah and Patrick.

Huge props to the author for not injecting any predictable drama and conflict between the couple near the end, for the inevitable break up that we see in almost EVERY romance book. This was a breath of fresh air.

Oh, and big shout out to Norah’s granny. Several of her one liners had me laughing out loud.

Fake is the perfect light, fun beach read and I now have a new series to stalk!

“You can have whatever you want from me.”
“I can?”
“Yes,” he said, tone definite. “You should know that.”

Overall Opinion: Eh, this wasn’t for me. I really tend to enjoy the fake relationship trope, so I thought this would for sure be a winner. Sadly, there was too much that didn’t work. The characters were so surface that I don’t even think I ever got a full physical description of them (mostly the h)! It was tidbits dropped here and there, but I like to have an image in my mind while reading. The H was completely unlikeable. I get he was supposed to be this mysterious, broody celebrity…but really?! He never really warmed up (other than a little in the sex scenes) and I just thought he was dull. Having his POV would’ve helped a lot with this! The conflict was meh and the end was so abrupt I felt like I had whiplash…overall, it just wasn’t my cuppa.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Norah and Patrick’s story. Norah is a waitress when the mysterious, superstar actor comes in after hours occasionally for a private dinner. She gets roped into his conversation with his PR agent, and ends up agreeing to be his live-in fake girlfriend for the next 6 months to help improve his image. There are some big life changes, some sexy times, and some very mild drama…and they get a HFN ending.

Point Of View (POV): This was told in Norah’s POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Alright, except for the abrupt ending. I never skimmed.

Instalove:Kind of, just for the sense it seemed to come out of nowhere…but it was towards the end — so probably not 🙈

H (Hero) rating: 2 stars. Patrick. I struggled with him. I never connected with or even really liked him all that much tbh.

h (heroine) rating: 3 stars. Norah. I thought she was just okay. She had the potential of getting deep into her character since we only get her POV, but I don’t feel like we really do.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: No

Heat level: Mild. They have some tension and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story. I felt like the chemistry was lacking and it was scenes for the sake of having them in the book and not to further the connection between characters.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: No

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This ends abruptly with what I would call a HFN ending

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

I was sensing a slump coming, but this book came out and said, “No.”

Fake is a disgustingly sweet, pretty well-written, humorous, and feel-good book with bunch of Hollywood dramas, likable characters, and all the delicious tropes. Boy do I feel single right now. It was a pretty quick read for me, I got my copy one midnight and finished it by the evening of the following day, this made me realize why I love reading this author's books so much in the first place. Lead by her is one of my most-read books of this year, and I'm more than happy to have find another good read from Kylie Scott. Although Lead will always lead my heart!

➳Tropes/whatever they're called:

Fake dating to fake engagement, Slow-burn, Large bad and smol couch; One bed trope, Only you deserve to hear me talking; the serious quiet H, Grumpy × Semi-Sunshine, Average girl meets the celebrity (a hot one,of course), Celebrity drama, Giving the other various pet names but never deciding on one. Omg, how did we end up cuddling?

You know the story.

Our boy Patrick Welsh is some Hollywood actor and very, and I mean very handsome, nice, and almost perfect because otherwise he would be real. Enter, Norah Peers, she is one of the waitresses of restaurant which unsurprisingly Patrick visits in non-busy hours every now and then as it's quieter at that time and our man here apparently loves silence, my soulmate. Norah, she is doing her job right by always maintaining enough distance from him, and she has never, and like never leaked his photos online or even took one for that matter. Although she is thrusting after him in a subtle way. Kind of.

You don’t have to be in a relationship. Being alone is a totally viable decision. And even if you are in a relationship, you both need to have your own life and interests.

On the very first chapter, we are told that he's gotten himself into some mess with Liv Anders. I met her on the third book of stage dive series by this author. Thank you, now I dislike her more. Now his reputation is kind of ruined and he's been cut off from some really big project. Sadface. To save this reputation, his team came up with an epic idea, he should fake date someone. You see, he's terrible at dating. He liked none of the girls who were chosen by his team. Another Sadface. Guess, what he does? He asks the waitress, Norah, who he barely interacted with in all these years of her serving him in the restaurant to fake date him and very unsurprisingly, she agrees because she needs the money siging up a contract and living with Patrick will grant her . And the rest is history.

“And when I make him smile, even the tiniest bit, I feel like a fucking champion.”

You know what happens.

Of course things get interesting. Is this realistic? Hell if I know anything about Hollywood and the celebrity life. Was this enjoyable? Hell yeah. Do I care about anything else? No. This book is short comparing to my recent romance novels reads, I don't think you need to know much before going into this book.

“This is crazy.”
“No,” said Patrick. “This is me having your back.”

The characters were everything.

I loved Patrick, and absolutely adored Norah. While Patrick was quiet, workaholic, and compassionate, Norah was hardworking, honest, strong, and nice. The romance was sweet,if a little 'not so sizzling chemistry ish'. It is steamy, but you know me, I will always complain. The setting was cool enough, mostly it's domestic which I loved. There was some subtly-jealous scenes that were too much fun to read, Patrick was possessive about Norah but not in a weird way. There were lovely moments throughout the book, I enjoyed the fake dating mess, and loved seeing them gradually fall for each other. It was such a comfort read! To talk about other characters, her grandma and his parents were such fun people. Their friends crazy and hilarious characters. Needless to say, I can't wait for their books.

-“We’ve been waiting for marriage,” answered Patrick with a straight face. “That’s why we’re in separate bedrooms.”
“Right,” she drawled. “Though Norah said it was because she snored.”
“That too.”

- She studied his handsome face over the top of her glasses. “And you’ve been quite the playboy apparently.”

cover:

I have no complains about the cover. In my opinion, unlike most books from this genre, this cover does actually go with the book. What a shocker. For once, the model, in fact, looks like a Patrick Welsh. And bonus point for the sea. It's a pretty decent cover if you ask me but I'm quite sure the physical copy of this book will have no place in my family bookshelf or even in our home for that matter. Just saying.

Overall:

Fun. Unrealistic. Comforting. Fake was an enjoyable read, I just flew thorough it, I don't have much complains. There was a mention about a 'Guitarist and his Partner', of course Lick was being referred. I want Jimmy and Lena to make an appearance in the next book please!

🌼 Summary 🌼

Norah Peers (30) works at the restaurant Little Italy as a waitress whilst also working various other jobs to make ends meet. It is whilst waitressing that she meets big Hollywood star Patrick Walsh (36) who made one bad decision that has tarnished his reputation. Following the advice of his agent, as a means to take the press attention away from the situation, Patrick is looking for a fake, steady girlfriend and he decides Norah would be perfect for the job - so begins a fake relationship (yay)

🌼 Review 🌼

This was such a quick and easy read! I like Kylie Scott's writing style, it's easy to engage with the characters and get into the story. This is the second Kylie Scott book I've read and I have to say I did enjoy Repeat a lot more, purely because I'm a sucker for second chance romances, so hence the lower rating for Fake. There were plenty of things that I did like about this story though and I really enjoyed reading about the blossoming relationship between Norah and Patrick!

What I enjoyed:

➸ Okay so I really loved Norah's character!!! She was super honest, funny and just amazing. She had to adapt to this completely new environment and I thought she adjusted so well, whilst staying true to herself. She was also super bubbly and would just talk so much no matter what the situation was - she had the best dialogue lol! Norah's grandma was also an absolute gem, loved how quirky she was and she was such a great secondary character!!

➸ I liked Patrick's character (not as much as Norah though) and I actually didn't mind not having his POV because, by the end of the book, you could kind of tell what he was feeling still and only having one POV allowed me to connect much more to Norah and her situation.

➸ I really dislike OW/OM drama ngl and luckily the OW situation didn't last long at all in this (probably because the book itself was super short...which I'll mention later on haha).

➸ The sneak peak for Pause was defo a highlight as well ashfhgjhl - July feels so far away still *cries*

What I didn't enjoy that much:

➸ Trying to understand Patrick's character was initially a bit frustrating for me personally because the guy barely said anything and it was mostly just Norah carrying their conversations but FORTUNATELY this eventually improved, with Patrick showing some emotion later on!! I also struggled to really connect to his character?? I think I was comparing him too much to Ed from Repeat, because Norah reminded me a bit of Clem with the no-filter and yeah...I prefer Ed a lot more...

➸ The whole book itself just felt super short, which did make it a really quick read, but at the same time I would've liked Norah and Patrick's relationship to develop more over a longer period and I just wanted to spend more time with them to be honest.

➸ I didn't really connect to any of the other secondary characters apart from Norah's grandma to be honest...

➸ It's been mentioned a lot LOL but I really needed an epilogue for this one...I understand it's a series (which I literally didn't realise until after I finished reading) but I wanted to know more!!! And I was expecting it as well...I just feel like it finished quite abruptly? I'm hoping Norah and Patrick might reappear in the background of the other books in this series at least!!

Overall though this was a decent read, it was predictable and a bit cliché, but it was basically drama free which made it really relaxing to get through!!

Thanks for reading this with me Ren🌼💛

Hi, your light and fun fake dating romance of the month has arrived!

Patrick Walsh could have been the perfect golden actor, but after getting caught up in a scandal that may end his career, he needs a cleanup ASAP, And who else but Norah Peers for the role that could save his life? Maybe she's a little quirky and can't stop talking when she's nervous, but this waitress can't pass up this offer. And what if she has a teeny tiny crush on Patrick? It doesn't matter as long as she knows they're pretending, right?

This was a quick and light read featuring two tropes that I really enjoy; fake dating and grumpy-sunshine trope, so you know what you're going to get here; she making this broody actor of few words smile, small touches and gestures where they begin to wonder if they are really pretending or if something of all this is real, what will happen when necessarily the farce comes to an end, etc... Only the best cliches that always make you squeal! My only problem here was the lack of dual POVs, which made it difficult for me at times to understand what was going through Patrick's head and why he was acting so reserved around Nora, but having Norah's POV was fun and she ended up being a great storyteller.

And while this is about Patrick and Norah, Fake is the first installment in the West Hollywood West, so we can see some very interesting and fun characters being introduced here, which I'll be tuning into later.

5 Yes, Yes, Yes, Kylie Stars
* * * * * Spoiler Free
I have had a girl crush on Kylie Scott's writing for years. She was an author who captured my heart with her creation of Mal Ericson, drummer for the world-famous rock band Stage Dive. Yes, it was Mal's love story that really took me to a place where I was laughing, snorting, and also understanding all that he was through it all. He also became the biggest cheerleader for his love interest, Anne. I am telling you if you want to have a moment where everything is out of your mind and only Mal and Anne are...Please go and read that book.

Ok, so as you can see, I love Kylie Scott and how I lost touch with all of her books, I do not know...But what I do know is this new book and the beginning of her new series is EVERYTHING.

There is maturity in the writing, insight into how our gal is feeling all of the time, and a little of the snark we all love. Our fella is one of a kind and we root for them from the start. We meet people who are part of this crew who we want more of, hint hint...

I went into this blind with only the blurb and it was totally enough. I suggest you do too. You will love this as much as I do...and as you can see in the title...THERE IS MORE TO COME, GOODY!!!!

Norah + Patrick.

Norah is 30 years old. She's pretty happy working her waitressing job at this little Italian restaurant. Plus a second job so she can pay for her grandma's senior living place.
Her success with relationships is nothing to write home about - that's why she's a on little break from dating.
Enter Patrick - a regular diner at her restaurant.
He's 36 year old Hollywood star.
He's in a bit of a PR nightmare at the moment - so his people need him to get a fake girlfriend for a few months until everything calms down.

LET THE FUN TIMES BEGIN ...

That was so cute!

An adorable and funny and sparky and very Hollywoody love story!
I loved Norah and how she just went with it. Getting hired as a fake Hollywood girlfriend? No problem - I've done that a hundred times before. LOL!
The way she tries to drag grumpy Patrick out into the light of happiness. So cute.
I really enjoyed reading this!
I loved his parents and her grandma and his BFFs - I see more stories coming there!
Can't wait to see what book #2 will have to tell us!

I kinda had the feeling that the book just ... started. You start reading and bam you're in the story - everything just happens immediately. There's no prologue or a few slow chapters to explain things. Nope. Paddy needs a girlfriend and bam Norah's it.
It felt a bit too fast and too ... no idea. A bit weird. I think it's a Kylie Scott thing - I remember complaining about it before. BUT - it's also not a really bad thing. I hate it when a story is unnecessarily long with too much extra drama and info that I don't need to know. So it's definitely not bad. I really liked reading this!

Oh and another tiny little thing ... again, just me and my weirdness.
The expression THAT IS TRUE. In this book Kylie uses THIS IS TRUE - four times at least. And it bothered me so much. No idea why. It's probably not grammatically wrong, but it sounds so weird to my ears!?

Anyway, don't worry - nobody will be bothered by these things! Just me. 🤣

This was a really beautiful Hollywood Romance and I enjoyed reading it!
And the cover - phew!! 🔥🔥

I flew through this book so fast but for some reason it just wasn’t anything special. It also wouldn’t be a memorable read for me.

I did like the characters but none of them stood out to me. However, I wouldn’t be giving this less than a 3 star rating because as I said I flew through this book.

I missed some angst, some real problems, just something.

It was an okay fake dating trope I guess.

I usually love the fake relationship trope, even more when it involves a celebrity male and a regular heroine but I just couldn't get into Patrick and Norah's story. The whole affair was boring. Not much was done to make either character interesting outside their fake arrangement and even this didn't bring the usual feels of two person discovering one another under a close proximity setting.

Patrick was this one dimensional male, forever brooding and frowning but nothing more, I mean for an actor all he appeared to have for him was a good eyebrows game? I didn't care for him at all, even less his nickname. Paddy 😒
The heroine, Norah, was so disappointing. She's written as this outspoken feminist person but her only role in the book was being a prop for Patrick? She literally has no aspiration or purpose other than masquerading as the perfect understanding girlfriend.

Where was the chemistry between Norah and the shit hot A-LIST heartthrob? Beside Norah's obvious thirst for Patrick, nothing zings between them on page. Even their falling into bed together felt forced to me.
Norah's ultimatum near the end felt much out of character for her and a convenient way to rush the end of the story.

All in all, it was just okay, I wouldn't recommend this one if you're looking for a celeb romance.

YIKES: Mentioning Czechoslovakia in 2021 as the shooting location of the hero's upcoming movie... AHEM.

I almost gouged my eyes out while reading this. I have liked Kylie Scott’s work before, like her Stage Dive series is incredible. Now this, this was not it in any way.

⛔️ Spoilers below ⛔️

Things I didn’t like (which are a lot):

•Too short: The story is so short that I couldn’t have given a less shit for the MCs. It needs to be closer to 400 for me anyway

•No substance: Tell me why Patrick (H) had no personality at all. This man never smiled except during public appearances when he had to for the purpose of the fake relationship. It pissed me off like yessss king give us absolutely nothing.

•Zero to 100: I’m sorry but I refuse to believe that the public and media would think the relationship between the MCs developed within a month of him being ready to start a relationship with his friend/co-star. The MCs got engaged a few days after they began “dating”. Do they think people are that dumb? There was probably a run-on sentence somewhere in this, but who even cares at this point. I’m ranting. I think by the end of the book they’ve only “been together” for a couple weeks (correct me if I’m wrong) BUT A COUPLE WEEKS AND Y’ALL ARE IN LOVE? Explain this to me

I don’t have all day so I’ll just move on

Things I liked:

•Fake relationship trope: I like this trope, but this book just didn’t do it right. I needed more substance from the characters. At the beginning, Norah (h) talked so. much. Her ramblings had me zoning out and staring at the paragraph for a solid minute at a time. Wow the only thing I liked ended up being another rant, so maybe I didn’t actually like it.

Editing this almost a week later and I decided to upgrade this to 2 stars after thinking about. I felt like I was wayyyy to harsh

Kylie Scott is definitely one of my go-to authors. I love her books so much! I think it’s safe to say that, every die hard fan of contemporary romance genre has read at least one of her books. I was beyond excited to read Fake!

I had such a fun time reading Fake by Kylie Scott. This slow-burn, fake relationship is so well written.

I liked Norah from the get go… Sarcastic, sassy, relatable, honest and real.

Patrick on the other hand was a mystery. Even when I was at the 48% mark, I don’t think I could have said I had him figured out. But I had such a fun time trying to ‘understand’ him…which at times did test my patience but fun none the less.

Fake just exudes everything I love about Kylie Scott’s books: Funny, witty, charming…I couldn’t stop the giddy sensation while I read Fake.

This strangers to fake relationship turned friends to lovers romance with the ultimate heartthrob should definitely be your next read.

Happy Reading!

Oh! Did I mention that I love the cover? Wowza!

"I'd rather your worst than anyone else's best."
Yeah, I ate this up with a very big spoon.

There's just something about film star books that I can't get enough of, then throw in fake dating and grumpy/sunshine and I'm a goner. Plus, KS's sense of humor goes so well with mine.

It could have been longer to flesh things out a bit, but overall SO FREAKING ENJOYABLE.
