For starters, I really value the fact that Grow had used archival photographs alongside current ones as this provided a clear record for audiences to see the ever-changing history of Melburnian architecture. What had let the book down for me were the typos and spelling errors throughout. I understand that human error is natural, but without proper editing, these mistakes were quite jarring and distracted me from what was otherwise a fascinating topic.
Critiques aside, I do admire Grow's purpose behind writing this book, which is to educate audiences about heritage buildings so to help preserve them. I hope it does do as intended because this education is urgently needed (especially for property developers!)
