New York Times bestselling and award-winning author, Wanda E. Brunstetter is one of the founders of the Amish fiction genre. She has written close to 90 books translated in four languages. With over 10 million copies sold, Wanda's stories consistently earn spots on the nations most prestigious bestseller lists and have received numerous awards.
Wanda’s ancestors were part of the Anabaptist faith, and her novels are based on personal research intended to accurately portray the Amish way of life. Her books are well-read and trusted by many Amish, who credit her for giving readers a deeper understanding of the people and their customs.
When Wanda visits her Amish friends, she finds herself drawn to their peaceful lifestyle, sincerity, and close family ties. Wanda enjoys photography, ventriloquism, gardening, bird-watching, beachcombing, and spending time with her family. She and her husband, Richard, have been blessed with two grown children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
I read the three books in this collection when they were originally published and thoroughly enjoyed each one. Now, they are together in one volume, and I am once again reliving the joys, the sorrows, and the triumphs of the King and Beiler families. Author Wanda E. Brunstetter shows that Amish people aren't immune to problems, heartaches, and even doubts, but in the end, their faith helps carry them through. I recommended these books to all who enjoy Amish fiction and I gave all of them 5 stars in my original reviews. Here are snippets from each review:
The Crow's Call has everything that I've come to expect in a Brunstetter book and it offers readers a reunion with characters from The Prayer Jars series. An inspiring faith message and a mystery that is left unsolved certainly makes it a book to recommend and I am eagerly waiting to read The Mockingbird's Song, book two of the Amish Greenhouse Mystery.
The Mockingbird's Song is an inspiring, intriguing, and entertaining addition to the Amish Greenhouse Mystery series and fans of Brunstetter and Amish fiction won't be disappointed!
The Robin's Greeting is the perfect way to wrap up the Amish Greenhouse Mystery series, and I recommend it to all who enjoy reading about family, faith, and the Amish way of life.
I received copies of these books from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for favorable reviews. These are my opinions.
This book is all three books in one. It will tell the stories of the King's family and Mystery of the Greenhouse in one book instead of three separate books.
The Crows Call is a good story. I enjoyed it. The storyline is about the Kings. Suppose you remember Michelle from the Prayer Jars series. Well, we meet up with Michelle and Ezekiel once again. You will be surprised when you do.
I am glad to see them once again. We get to know a bit more about their storyline. However, this takes place mainly around the King's greenhouse and the King's family. Something tragic happens, and those remaining have to deal with it. They seem to deal with it in different ways.
Though this seems to be mostly Amy King and Jared's story? How will Amy deal with the tragic events that hit her and her family? Wanda appears to show how everyone deals with grief in their way. However, we see each family member cope in different ways.
Henry seems to be the one that struggles the most. How will he deal with it? Everyone seems to tell him what to do. There seem to be a silver lining to his way. He seems to attach to a crow and when to train it. Will he be able to?
The Mockingbird's Song continues on the story of what happens with Sylvia and Amy and Henry and their mother. We start with them getting close to the time the tragedy happens. It seems like things focus on Sylvia and her grief.
We also met a new person named Denis Weaver. Could there be a connection between Dennis and Sylvia? Sylvia first meets Dennis while out with her brother Henry, birdwatching. This book takes time to get into the beginning. It starts slow, but it gets better once you are into the book.
We see Virginia and her husband's personality through these books. It's funny to see this along with how they see the Amish. Amish seem not bothered by their neighbors. We know how each member is still dealing with the loss of their family members.
Amy and Jerrod seem to be getting ready for their wedding. What happens when things start to pick up, and the vandalism begins again. Who is vandalizing the greenhouse? Why is it happening? Seem to be a mystery still. However, we may have some answers.
More twists and turns as you turn the pages. However, this book is rated 4.5 by me as it is still good. This one focuses on family and birdwatching and learning more about birds. Will Sylvia find her happiness with birdwatching or someone or both? How will Belinda cope with her grief and other things?
The Robin's Greeting is another beautiful story. It continues the King Family's story and how they get past the loss of their three loved ones. This book focuses on Belinda and her two suitors. But there seems to be more to the mystery of who is vandalizing the greenhouse.
There are quite some events that happen for Belinda's two grown daughters. Henry still seems to be grieving the loss of their father and older brother, and brother-in-law Toby. But will he find some happiness in this life?
Michelle and her husband seem to spend time with his family. Will Michelle find her mother? There seem to be complete surprises at every turn. Virginia seems pretty upset with her neighbors that live across the street. Will the Martin's ever warm up to the Kings or the Amish?
Virginia seems lonely and upset to be still living in the Amish country. Is there a reason for the Martins to have gotten the house next door and closed the greenhouse? Who could be the one that is vandalizing the greenhouse and making Henry go looking for the person responsible for all the attacks on the King's greenhouse? Oh, how this ends and surprises at the end.
Suppose you want to find out how Michelle becomes Belinda King's daughter-in-law. You should read "The Prayer Jars" series about how she became Amish. Its first book is called "The Hope Jar." I have reviewed each one of these books.
Wanda does it again with this book. This series is just as good as "The Prayer Jars." I enjoyed each of these books in this series, "Amish Greenhouse Mystery." Will they solve the mystery that is going on at their greenhouse? What up with Maude coming to the greenhouse and up to the King's place? I enjoyed the titles of each of these books as well.
I read each of these books as they came out. I'm so happy to see that they are all in one volume, and I highly recommend this compilation for anyone who is looking for a great trilogy to read, especially if you can't wait for the next book in the series to come out!
Here are my reviews of each of the stories in this series:
The Crow’s Call is the first book in Wanda E. Brunstetter’s new three book Amish Greenhouse Mystery series. The first installment revolves around the King family, owners of a greenhouse in Strasburg, Pennsylvania. Daughter Amy King hears a crow call, and associates this with the traumatic events that soon follow. What began as a happy time of celebration soon turns into a time of grief. This book shows how each member of the immediate family deals with their grief, and only a few questions are answered in the first book, which makes readers anticipate the next books all the more. You have the definite sense that this first book is only the beginning, but what a well written and thought out beginning it was! While we see some familiar faces in this series, we also see some new faces, namely new greenhouse neighbors Earl and Virginia Martin. Mrs. Martin, especially, has some mystery swirling about her, which will hopefully be addressed in the other books in this series. The pace of this book was very good; things moved along swiftly. It was hard to put the book down. One thing that readers will especially like is the added explanations that are peppered throughout the book that explain Amish ways and customs. At the end of the book, readers will also find a recipe mentioned in the book, a nice touch. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
The Mockingbird's Song is book 2 in Wanda Brunstetter's Amish Greenhouse Mystery series. In this latest installment of the series, we find that life has moved on for each of the members of the King family after the tragedy they experienced in the 1st book of the series, The Crow's Call. Healing comes at different speeds for each character in this book. Amy has moved forward with her plans to marry Jared in the fall. The matriarch of the family, Belinda, continues to rely on prayer to see her through her lonely days as she misses her husband. The greatest healing seems to take place in Sylvia. While she spent much of the 1st book in a state of deep depression over the loss of her husband Toby, this book finds her moving past her grief and embarking on a new relationship. And yet there are some mysteries that remain still unsolved in this second book. For instance, what happened to the neighbor lady, Virginia's leg? Why does she despise Amish people so much? Why is she in a near frantic state living out in the country? And just who is committing all of these acts of vandalism against The King family and their family- run greenhouse? Also what secrets is Monroe Esh hiding? The 3rd book in the series is due out in march of 2021. I have been surprised by the events in this series so far and cannot wait to see how Ms. Brunstetter brings it all to a close. I received an advanced copy of this book through Netgallery and Barbour Publishing. While I was under no obligation to provide a review, it has been my pleasure to do so.
The Robin’s Greeting is the last installment in Wanda Brunstetter’s Amish Greenhouse Mystery series, and I have to say, I’m sorry to see it come to an end. While any of the three books could be read alone, readers of the first two books, The Crow’s Call (book 1) and The Mockingbird’s Song (book 2) will finally find the long-awaited answers to some important questions. Readers will gain more insight into the backstory of neighbors Earl and Virginia, as well as Maude, the old woman living in the shack down the road. We also see Henry begin to mature, as he loses some of his hot-headed ways. Even Monroe Esh reins in his outlandishness. Growth occurs in other ways, as relationships bloom and families expand. I do not wish to give too much away, for those who have not had the pleasure of reading this series. All in all, it was a very satisfying read, and a nice example of the freeing power of forgiveness. I was provided with a copy of this book by the publisher in return for my honest review.
In the Crow's Call, what begins as a joyous birthday celebration for Belinda King, surrounded by her loving family, soon turns tragic by the sudden deaths of her beloved husband, son and son-in-law. Now she must find the strength to run the family business and provide support for her widowed daughter and grandchildren, daughter and son, while also convincing her oldest son and his family to remain in their new community and build his business. Ezekiel is torn between duty to his mother, siblings and niece and nephew and duty to God as a minister in another state and his burgeoning business. His mother insists he should follow his duty to God, but he's so unsure. Sylvia is drowning in depression from losing her father, brother and husband all at once. She can barely function and accomplishes only what she does for the sake of her two young children. Henry, the youngest son, barely out of the 8th grade is lost without a positive adult male influence in his life. He's angry, sneaking off and possibly experimenting with things that would disappoint his parents and bring harm to himself. Amy, Belinda's youngest daughter must now jump in to help her mother run the family greenhouse, and chooses to sacrifice her own happily ever after in order to support her family. In the midst of all they are wading through, someone begins targeting and vandalizing the greenhouse. But who would target this mourning Amish family and why?
The Mockingbird’s Song focuses on Sylvia, picking up about a year after the tragic loss of her husband, father and brother. In an effort to begin to pull herself out of her depression and to be a better mother to her two young children, she agrees to join her brother, Henry, on a birdwatching expedition. There, they meet a newcomer to the area, Dennis. They decide to meet up together to continue bird watching and glean from each other’s bird knowledge. Before long, the vandalism starts up again. But who is the culprit? Will Sylvia’s friendship with Dennis help to pull her out of her depression and find joy again?
The Robin’s Greeting follows Belinda as she continues to navigate taking care of her family and running the greenhouse two years after losing her husband, son & son-in-law. But good things are happening in her family and her children seem to be healing. Belinda also begins to feel her own heart healing as she finds herself receiving the attention of not one, but two suitors. But soon the vandalism starts again. Who might Belinda choose? How will her children feel about the possibility of having a step-father? Who is behind all the vandalism? Read the third book of the Greenhouse Trilogy and enjoy the multiple plot twists! How many did you see coming?
I love reading books with different stories that provide a variety of lessons and brings characters together in whole collection. This book is compiled with wonderful characters and a glimpse at hope, unconditional love, loss and forgiveness. It is a great way to get the series all in one book to enjoy.
THE CROWS CALL
This has been such a wonderful start to a promising new series for the author. I love how much the author knows about the Amish and it shows in each of her stories. We not only get to know the Amish better, but we feel as if we are in the middle of the story as it plays out. The author is able to take characters and make them come to life with emotions that tug on your heart and bring you a better understanding of God’s love.
There has has a great loss in one of the families when three members are killed. The void they leave behind will have lasting affects on other members in the family. I love how the community comes together to offer support and assures them they are not alone.
The greenhouse is a prosperous business that takes the remaining members a lot of work to keep it going. It doesn’t help that they are still grieving from the tragedy. Amy has a great head on her shoulders and is determined to keep the business running. If only she can get her little brother Henry to get over his anger and allow God to comfort him. What I really liked in this book was the mystery the author provides that really enchanted an already enchanting story. Someone is vandalizing the greenhouse and the property which causes Amy and her family to wonder who could be doing such unkind things to them? I found several suspects in my investigation but will I be right? And what is Henry up to with the annoying crow?
It is a refreshing start to a series that have characters dealing with grief, family, forgiveness and learning to trust God. The new neighbors are a mystery themselves when the wife doesn’t want to be sociable. I found that to be a great opportunity to have Amy or even her mother to reach out to her. The author invites us to join her as we follow a family through heartbreak and come together as a family to help each other deal with their grief. Don’t miss the discussion questions the author has provided at the end of the book. The book does leave us with a bit of a cliffhanger so be prepared to be on the lookout for the next in this series.
I was happy to read all these three stories when they each came out separate. Mrs. Wanda Brunstetter does amazingly with these mysteries.
We meet the Kings family. The family is heartbroken when we meet them as three members of their family die as they are celebrating a birthday.
Amy King, is terrified of black birds. As when things have happened a crow is always near and calling out. But seeing that her family needs her she asks the young man courting her to hold on marriage. But a sudden events start happening at their family store and house. Everything seems to point to someone close to them. Will they find out the mysterious events occurring are being made by, or will someone unexpected that start showing up be the one to worry from?
The second book is about Amy's older sister Sylvia who her husband was killed along with Amy's father and brother. She is left with two young children and a heart broken shattered in pieces. But her NEW found hobby of bird watching brings an unexpected peace to her heart. Will she let Dennis get close and embrace her and her young children or will the continue heartache and mysteries happening still bring a stop to it?
The third book is about Amy's mother, Belinda. With her son acting a little different after his father, brother and brother in law die in a terrible horse buggy accident. He finds comfort in bird watching. But Belinda has to decide whether to believe her son is behind it or truly leave it up to God. She has a childhood friend show up and things seem to put a finger on him or is it the New owner of the bigger greenhouse in town. Will they finally put a stop to the mysteries and will she find peace at last.
Mrs. Wanda truly made these stories wonderful to read for being her first series of Amish Mysteries, still embraced with God's love and peace in them. Great stories you will love and cherish the characters.
My reading time frame shows a year but is because I read these stories as they came out separately from the publisher/author as a Complimentary ARC.
This is the last book of the Amish Greenhouse Mystery series. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the characters. After a while they seemed like family to me. We used to live in Missouri quite close to a large Amish community and we drove many of the families when they needed to travel farther away from their homes. There was a greenhouse where I bought many plants and flowers. They operated a small bakery too. Belinda King who is a widow in The Robin's Greeting still mourns her husband's tragic death from two years ago, and she draws the attention of two lonely Amish men who want to court her! Even though she remains friends with them for a long time, spending time with each of them (getting to know them better), she finally leans toward one of them more. It's a fascinating development to read! Throughout the book series, the mystery of the vandalism, threatening phone calls, and wondering who and why they were told to sell and move away continued up to the end when the mystery was solved. There are some special moments to be cherished in this story. I loved reading about this King family and I'm sure many will agree with me. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.
The Amish Greenhouse Mysteries was originally released as three separate novels, but this large volume brings the entire trilogy together under one cover. The stories are about the King family, beginning with a family tragedy. Soon after, vandalism and mysterious threating phone calls to the family’s greenhouse business and farm cause worry and financial strain that the family would be better off without. Throughout the book daughter Amy feels the need to delay her marriage, widowed mother Belinda deals with suitors that she has no interest in while keeping the family business running, son Henry is uncooperative and angry, and widowed daughter Sylvia meets a man and struggles to pull out of her depression and open her heart to the future. As the vandalism and threats continue, the entire family must lean on their faith and each other to find the courage to deal with the upheaval in their lives and figure out the mystery of who is targeting their family and business. I really enjoyed reading these novels individually and love that this compilation allows for continuous reading for the King family’s stories. Excellent clean and inspirational literature from an outstanding author!
The Amish Greenhouse Mysteries, 3 Amish Novels is a compilation of all three novels in award winning author Wanda Brunstetter’s mystery series by the same name. The author has a natural gift of storytelling. This series is a splendid example of that.
In this series we meet the Amy King and her Amish family. They successfully run their own Greenhouse. In the first book, a tragedy happens changing the family forever. The characters are relatable and lovable. By the end of the series they felt like friends. It's an imaginative series with many twists and turns. I learned some things when reading it about nature. There are so many subtle life lessons sprinkled throughout the book. I became invested within the first chapter and found myself turning page after page to see what would happen next.
I highly recommend this for readers who love good, clean, Amish stories. I rate it a 5 out of 5 stars.
Wanda has done it again! Please read "The Amish Greenhouse Mysteries". In "The Crow's Call", Amy King will change her life after a family tragedy. In "The Mockingbird's Song", Sylvia , oh Sylvia, will she find love again? In "The Robin's Greeting", the reader will learn about Belinda King. The surprise is who is vandalizing the greenhouse? The characters learn to trust in God. " What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee." Psalm 56:3
I love Amish stories and Wanda Brunstetter always writes such wonderful books! This one didn't disappoint! I loved reading about the different birds and found myself on Google looking up unfamiliar ones mentioned. The characters were all so unique and I enjoyed watching their stories unfold. The unsolved mystery added to the enjoyment! I highly recommend this book!
I liked the storyline, but having read a biography about someone who was adopted into the Amish culture as a newborn, there were some minor details that bothered me. Some of this may have just helped the story flow better. The mystery flows through all three books and I felt it wasn't completely obvious who the perpetrator was.
What I liked best was how the author shares the gospel. I really enjoyed how it was portrayed.
I give "The Amish Greenhouse Mysteries" four stars.
Another great series with characters that keep you on your toes and always questioning who’s causing all the trouble. Is it Belinda Kings teenage son, or Belinda’s admirer from her past. Who’s causing all this trouble for the King family. Read this wonderful series to find the answers to all your questions.
This Series is a must have!! The 3 stories included in this set are about an Amish family that runs their own Greenhouse. It's an exciting series with so many things that happen, that I don't want to give out any spoilers. I guarantee that if you love good, clean, Amish stories, and Wanda's books, you will Love this!!
The family is trying to get over the loss of three of their family members. Everyone is grieving in their own way. Shortly after the deaths vandalism hits the farm and greenhouse. No one knows who is doing it. Some think that it's the teenage son but he insists it's not him.
Good book on family relationships, faith in God, and trust in each other.
I’m not a big fan of mysteries but I do enjoy Amish mysteries once in a whole. I read each book as they were released and enjoyed them all. I kept guessing between 2 or 3 characters as to who was doing the vandalism. I would think it was one person and then second guess and think it was someone else. I was definitely surprised as to who it was when I found out in the final book.
I know I have read at least 30 of Wanda E Brunstrtter's books and this is the best by far. I loved the. characters and the way they were developed. It was just great to see the way you expected the story to go and then it would go a completely different way. It was so riveting the way it ended, I was caught completely off guard. Just an awesome story.
I read each of these books individually as they were published and enjoyed each one of them. I loved the characters; and the storylines that ran throughout the series were very intriguing. It’s great to have these books together in one volume.
Loved this series. Live between family, faith, and mystery. The characters bring you right in as if they were really your friends. Some twists and turns. Famiky never gives up on family and we work it all out in the end with Gods grace and live of family.
I enjoyed this series very much. A different story about each character and it had a bird in each story. There is romance, friendship and of course mystery. You will want to read the whole series to find out about the mystery of the greenhouse.
I love Amish fiction. This one by Wanda E. Brunette is a bit different from the others being a mystery series. But I loved them all. I will always read her books. They never disappoint.
Overall I think that this trilogy was good. It did seem like the mystery aspect was just thrown in but not the main focus of each book's plot. I enjoyed each of the 3 books.
This is such a good collection of mysteries that Wanda wrote. I really enjoyed all of them and what a better way to read as all of them in one book. Wanda hit a grand slam on all these books..
I love Amish books and also mysteries, this is a great combination of both. The characters are great and I loved following them throughout this book. I couldn’t put this book down.
