The Bible isn’t just a big book full of stories from a long time ago. It also tells us what we are to believe about God, life and what happens after this life. Christians sometimes use a lot of complicated words to describe these things, but this brief breakdown of everything you need to know is easy to understand.

I was looking for a book to read with a college student who seemed on the cusp of believing in the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was presented with the gospel a few months ago and has been excitedly reading his bible. I want to facilitate a conversation on the basics of the Christian faith and be clear what Christians believe (and to see if he believes it as well).
I am impressed with this book. It's concise, simple, and straightforward. I like how a fictional story of a new believer is weaved through the book. I intend on reading "Training" next, another book from 9Marks' 'First Steps Series.'
4.5 stars. This is accomplishes it’s intended goal. I hope to use it for discipleship in the future. Section on sanctification was fine but could be a stronger emphasis on God’s work in our growth.
Overall a nicely done book covering basic theology for a new believer. I was impressed until I got to the final chapter about Jesus’ return. He does say Jesus could return any moment, but in judgment. He doesn’t mention the Rapture or the tribulation or the Antichrist at all. I believe Jesus comes in 2 phases: the Rapture and His Glorious Appearing at the Battle of Armageddon. He skips most of Revelation and says Christ’s return will bring this world to a sudden end. Eight chapters great, the last one not so much. I can’t in good conscience use this book in discipleship. I was disappointed.
This series is a great series for those who have little to know understanding of Christian faith and walk. It leans deeply into the practical - with stories, illustrations and focused emphasis; it is meant to be used as a practical discipleship guide that you can work through with one or two others who are new to Christ.
