For the Love of Donuts

Rate this book
If at first you don't succeed, get engaged.

Skye Carson

Let me be clear: I know lying to get a promotion is all sorts of wrong, but I can’t be the social media team assistant at Dovell Donuts FOREVER...right? And telling my romance-loving boss that I’m engaged just seemed like the best excuse for why I’ve been “distracted” at work!

(I definitely wasn’t going to tell her that it’s because I’m tired of my current job title.)

However, I did tell her that my “fiancé’s” name is Tatum. As in Tatum, who happens to be my very platonic best friend.

Oh yeah, and did I mention she's expecting to meet him?

Tatum Jacobs

Was offering to be Skye’s fake fiancé a good idea? Probably not.

(Especially since I keep thinking about her in a not-so-friend-way.)

But I couldn’t just leave her hanging, I'd do anything for that girl. And when her boss provides a chance for me to get more publicity as a photographer, I know there’s no going back on this “engagement.”

I need a real photo studio. I just hope our friendship is strong enough to survive all this pretending.

That is—unless Skye wants something more.

Okay, wow! This story was everything... Fake engagement, friends to lovers, lots and lots of the very best kisses. My goodness, this was everything I wanted and more in a romance! Tatum is absolutely the ultimate MMC and gosh, HOW was he even single this long? He is like the perfect best friend and ultimate boyfriend , which makes him the best person to play a fake fiance. But phew, the kisses in this one! I love how there can be so much chemistry and pull between two characters, and yet there isn't any open door scenes and not even any mention of that sort of stuff. Just lots of somewhat steamy kisses. And gosh, this couple, their love = perfect!

When Skye wants to be considered for a new job promotion, she lies to her boss about being engaged. But when her boss asks the fiancé's name, she blurts out Tatum! Except Tatum is her best friend, and they've never been anything more. But Tatum is wonderful and steps in to play the fake fiance. Which also works to his benefit, landing him a great business opportunity. So what if they have to fake a relationship, do a few taste testing events, maybe some engagement photos... simple, right?! Wrong! As the lines get blurred, neither is ready to make the first move, past their friendship, but how can they deny their chemistry? And if they give in and give a relationship a try, what if it doesn't work? Do they keep faking an engagement? Tell the truth? Give a real relationship a try and risk BOTH their jobs in the process?!

Gosh, you all, this book was everything. But what can I say? I loved their love! You HAVE TO read this!

I received a complimentary copy of this story. But the positive review reflects my own opinion of the story.

This was my first book by Pixie and I can now guarantee it will NOT be my last. This book was so sweet!

I have read over 100 books this year, all filled with different tropes. I have learned that friends to lovers is a TOUGH SELL for me, it's just not always my favorite. It has to be done in the right way for me to really enjoy it, and let me tell you -- THIS WAS. I was rooting for them to get together from the very beginning & the chemistry was written so well.

I adored Skye. Her inner dialogue had me laughing out loud multiple times. She was quirky, and so relatable. Tatum was adorable, and SO good to Skye. His inner dialogue was equally as funny, and sweet. I loved that this was a dual POV book because it added a lot of depth to it, being able to see both sides of the relationship bloom.

Their relationship was really sweet. What I think I liked most is that their friendship stayed in tact. Even when things felt awkward as they were navigating their feelings, they were still there for one another and knew they could rely on each other.

Now let's chat CHEMISTRY and KISSES.🔥 Let me remind you, this is fully closed door - but that did not stop me from fanning myself and squealing MANY times. Oh my goodness, those scenes were incredible. THIS is why I adore closed door romances. They can bring the heat without the (in my opinion) unnecessary extras.

I received a complimentary copy of this story, but my positive review is my own opinion.

This is my first read from Pixie and I love her style of writing. It’s very fluid and the story telling is sweet!! Can we talk about her KISSING SCENES!!!! Omg!!! Loved them! They’re very steamy I think is the right word. It is closed door but there are innuendos and talk of hickeys. So if that will bother you maybe skip this one but I recommend to anyone that loves a sweet and funny and cute romance with a best friends, fake engagements and encouraging friends

I received this as an eARC for my honest review

🌶:Make-outs (clean)
❗️:lying ,adoption

I absolutely love the fake dating trope, so I knew I was going to love this book.

I loved our MMC's and how the whole faking dating situation became real and the way they handled the friends to lovers' situation.
It was overall a really sweet friends to lovers & fake dating story.

Skye is such a great character, I loved her internal dialog. She was a quirky and fun character.
Tatum is absolutely adorable, I loved him and how he treated Skye and would do anything for her.

So for the 🌶 ,it's fully closed-door, but there were a couple of make-outs,and mentions of hickey's

This was my first book by Pixie, and it didn't disappoint

“I stopped fighting it. I didn’t want to fight it anymore. Our friendship still means everything to me, but falling for you was inevitable.” 🩷🍩📸💍

Thank you @authorpixieperkins for the ARC!! I decided months ago that friends-to-lovers is in my top favorite romance tropes, so this one checked off alllll the boxes 😍

Skye Carson is desperate for a change at work. But when the opportunity for a promotion arises, her boss at Donell Donuts comments that she’s seemed distracted lately. In a moment of panic, she tells her boss she’s been distracted due to becoming engaged. The problem: she’s not engaged. And DEFINITELY not to her best friend.

Tatum Jacobs and Skye have been best friends since middle school, but in those years, he’s undeniably had moments he’s thought: “what if?” As the true friend he is, he agrees to Skye’s fake engagement scheme. But that little voice that asks “what if?” just keeps getting louder.

This was such a sweet story!! The donut-world was so extra and I loved it 😂🍩 These are two extremely likable characters: Skye is an absolute spaz and we love her for it, and Tatum is seriously a walking green flag.

I also appreciated that this was a friends-to-lovers novel that started without the characters being 100% in love with each other. While I love the “I’ve always loved you” trope, this was different and refreshing. Tatum had feelings from the start, but even he was hesitant to act on them. And it was wonderful to watch Skye discover her own romantic feelings for her best friend over time.

WARNING: do not read this if you’re trying to diet. I high-key want to eat ALL the donuts 🤣🍩

This is my first Pixie book, and it was super cute!

Skye and Tatum have been friends for a long time. So when Skye spontaneously lies to her boss about being engaged in order for her to get a promotion, Tatum's name flies out of her mouth as the name of her fake fiancé. Tatum goes along with this idea.

A lot of times friends-to-lovers romances are hard for me, and I'm trying not to bang my head against the wall, but I appreciated that in this one, Tatum told her how he was feeling and gave her time to adjust to that. They were very cute, and I am very curious about Anna and Matt and if they'll get a story!

Favorite Quotes:
💀I’m cool, calm, and DEAD AGAIN.

❤️Wherever she is, that’s where I want to be.

😍Skye needs to know that I don’t only see her as my best friend. I see her as everything.

🔥She's standing up now, and she gives me a hesitant look. "Can I—"
"Yes.'
She doesn't even have to say it. I know what she's asking. She wants to touch me. And I'd be a fricking liar if I said I didn't want her to.
"A-are you sure?" She takes another step closer. "You don't think it'd be weird?"
"I'm sure." My voice is husky as step toward her and eliminate the ast bit of space between us. "You can touch me, Skye. It's okay."

This book was EVERYTHING I needed. In “For the love of Donuts” we follow skye, our spunky, donut loving, pink haired fmc, who after being accused of not being all in at work (at a donut company ofc) she makes the quick decision to lie to her boss about a fake engagement being the cause of her lack of focus! Lucky for her her boss love’s romance and runs with the idea. Did I mention she included her bff Tatum (who’s totally swoon worthy) into her lie? From there we have the cutest fake dating romance that becomes very, very real for the characters! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I loved hearing the inner monologue of the buildup of their romance going from pretend to real. I also love Pixie Perkins writing style, I definitely see myself deep diving into her work after this!

I just finished For the Love of Donuts by Pixie Perkins, and let me tell you, I’m still basking in the afterglow of this delightful read! From the very first chapter (which, by the way, I love how they’re all titled—adds a little flair), I was hooked by the comical and lighthearted tone that flowed throughout the book.

The writing style is a riot! I found myself chuckling out loud at Skye’s inner dialogue, which sets a wonderfully humorous tone. It’s like I was right there with her, navigating the chaos of her life, which is filled with workplace drama, personal dilemmas, and a fake engagement that spirals into the most unpredictable yet entertaining situations. Seriously, if you’re looking for a book that makes you smile and laugh at the same time, this is it.

The character dynamics are another highlight. Anna, Dira, and Zoya friendship is a beautiful blend of support and teasing, making their interactions feel so genuine and relatable.

And oh my goodness, the moments between Skye and Tatum had me blushing and smiling like a total goofball! Their playful, almost sibling-like teasing is endearing, and it adds a layer of sweetness to their relationship. I found myself rooting for them while laughing at their antics—it's that perfect mix of humor and simmering romantic tension that keeps you turning the pages.

The way Tatum bonds with Skye's family, especially the twins, is just adorable. It really showcases his caring nature and the depth of his friendship with Skye, which made me adore him even more. I can’t help but mention how the pacing of this book is spot on! Every chapter is entertaining, advancing both the plot and the emotional depth of the characters beautifully.

And let’s talk about the epilogue—it was so cute! I won’t spoil it, but it left me with that warm, fuzzy feeling you get after finishing a great rom-com.

In summary, For the Love of Donuts is a charming and witty read that’s an absolute blast from start to finish. If you’re looking for a lighthearted escape filled with laughter, friendship, and a sprinkle of romance, this book is a must-read. Grab a comfy spot, dive in, and prepare for a wild ride—you won’t regret it!

Best friends to lovers will always be a favorite trope for me! Throw in a fake engagement and meddling sister and you've got a story for the ages! Pixie delivered a delightful book with a fun and quirky cast of characters, making for a laugh out loud read with all the swoon and none of the open door shenanigans. A huge thanks to Pixie for giving me an early read with a review copy. Definitely go check out this sweet new release!

Skye and Tatum are very cute! I like Tatum a little bit more than Skye as a character but they fit each other well. Even though this book is closed door, I know some people think it’s still too much, but I liked the romance! This level is great for me, even though I feel like Skye was a bit childish at times for her age. But it’s a very cute book so I recommend it to those looking for closed door romance and are not afraid of a little bit of heat 😊

What a great surprise this book was! The characters are so cute and adorable, the descriptions so on point that you cannot help it but melt in a puddle with that much wholesomeness, swoonness and sweetness (all puns intended). Follow Skye and Tatum's journey on their discovery that best friends can be the perfect match, you won't regret it!

So sweet like donuts 🍩

So sweet like donuts, I could almost feel my teeth ache. 💜💜
And if there's one thing she knows how to give, it's a good makeout sesh 😌
Friends to lovers is a scary trope cause of how friendships can be ruined but I think the author did a good job of bringing these two together without excessive drama.

3.5 🌟

It wasn’t perfect but this book was a cute, easy read, and both the leads were very likeable.

The fake relationship setup was weak, but who cares! This book delivered on its promises, and I especially enjoyed the couple photoshoot and the cake tasting scenes.

The characters communicated with each other which was refreshing to see.

I rounded my rating up since most of the things I didn’t like were personal preference and someone looking for clean and wholesome would probably be happy. I’ve read some of the author’s ya books and have to wonder why she didn’t make this ya too? It would’ve fit better with the very innocent characters and some of the juvenile moments eg when she decided she wanted a hickey.

For the Love of Donuts Review

*please read the review fully and do not take the star rating at face value*

2/5 ⭐️⭐️
🚪 Closed Door
💞 Dual POV
📚 Available on Kindle Unlimited
⚠️ Content Warning: Major makeouts, a hickey scene, the male protagonist is shirtless, feeling around a lot

Tatum is a prince. He is so considerate of Skye and her feelings. I loved how he struggled with his feelings for her. It felt so real.

Skye is so spunky and fun! I absolutely loved her donut obsession, and her obsession with Aragorn from Lord of the Rings was just the icing on the...donut😉

I struggled with this one because while the book remained sweet and there were never mentions of anything happening behind a closed door...the kisses in this book were QUITE steamy. I do think it was a little too much heat for me personally, but it might not be that way for others since everything was kept outside the bedroom door. I do think this should be considered before giving this book to a younger teen though. It just may be best for a slightly older audience. That's the main reason for my low rating. I felt that it toed the line of closed door a bit too much for my liking. If not for that, this would have easily been a 4 or 5 star read for me!

I have to be honest and share how I really feel but I do hate giving this low of a review since I love all of Pixie's other books. Her writing style and characters are amazing. This one just missed the mark for me.

But, if YOU like:
🍩 Best friends to lovers
🍩 Fake engagement
🍩 Closed door kisses that bring the heat
🍩 Lord of the Rings references
🍩 All things donuts

Then this book is definitely for you!

For somebody who uses donuts to celebrate special occasions, I must admit, For the Love of Donuts by Pixie Perkins had me intrigued. My word, Tatum and Skye captivated my heart. A friend’s to more and fake engagement? Yes, please!
Tatum just made me love him more and more as the story unfolded. From forcing himself to stop those “what if” thoughts to deciding to use the opportunity to push her to see what breaking out of the box their friendship was confined to, I just adored him.
Watching Skye grow and overcome her own securities and open her heart to the risk of falling in love with her best friend was a reward all on its own. Throw in that beautiful first kiss and those fun side characters? Do yourself a favor and give it a read!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was such a lovely read and if you like the fake dating trope (more like fake engagement in this case 🤭) and closed door romance I highly suggest you read this book.
I really liked all the donut themed stuff and to be honest I really craved some donuts after finishing this book. Tatum is the best guy, hands down, a green flag fr fr. The way he always listened to Skye and knew whenever she was overthinking and helped her calm down and gave her different solutions to pick from 🥹✨
And Skye! 💗 I relate to her cute/naive and bubbly personality so much. (Meanwhile I’m dressed in all black)
But we all have to agree that the true MVP was Dria 😎 mom of two and cunning older sister. I loved all the scenes where Tatum and Skye were interacting with the twins 🥹

This book!!! Oh my gosh! So first things first I love Tatum! I have never met a more emotionally available man, and he is honest ro himself and to her about his feelings without pressuring her as t all!!! Like sooo unrealistic, but sooo swoony! I read this whole book in one day as part of a book club challenge, and honestly I garentee I read it again! I loved the sister the boss and Anna!! I need Anna's story now! I also love that this is a nice clean romance. Its just sweet and swoony no worry about any smut or anything I wouldnt be comfortable reading! Honestly I could rave about it for so long, but instead in going to go scream and celebrate with the other 2 people eho did the challenge with me!!!!!

Happy reading! And definitely give this book a chance, you won't regret it!!!!!

This is my first Pixie Perkins novel and it was so much fun to read. Very real the way the characters spoke. I loved that. I honestly just picked this up as a palette cleanser between heavier books and was very pleasantly surprised at how happy it made me. Very cute romance, even though I’m not usually one for fake dating (though I do love a good friends-to-lovers which this delivered on).

Overall just really cute, really sweet, and the character interactions were very real. Fun times!

DNFed!
This was a snooze fest :| I forced myself to drag on until 25% and then I was about to drop off from boredom.

The MMC: He acted more like a pesky girl best friend/sister than a man. (At least in the part I managed to finish).

The FMC: I forgot about her the moment I returned this book to KU. She was that bland.

If you love cringy stories with no real substance, then go ahead at your own risk.

This was a cute, quick, clean, friends to lovers read! I loved the main characters and how the story unfolded. My only complaint is that there were too many unnecessary characters and the brother-in-law and main male character had similar names, which got confusing... But overall, I loved it!

I loved it <3

Read it in two days and instead of studying I was reading instead of sleeping I was reading I had to know what was going to happen next
Especially since it's a mix of my favorite tropes

As some of y'all know Pixie is one of my all time favorite authors so when I got the ARC for this book I freaked.

I was 200% sure that I was gonna love it and I definitely did 🤭

I loved Tatum, omgosh he's a not a green flag he's a whole darn green Forest😩
I want one , where can I et one pixie ,I don't care just take my money 💳
I love how he loves Skye he was so whipped and I was so here for it 🤭. Did I mention what a smooth talker he is ,he had the best one liners I've read in a long time

If Skye was real I'm 150% sure we would be bestie I absolutely loved her personality how she literally had no filter and is so unhinged and I absolutely loved that about her
And sprinkles too ofc

I loved thier friendship (before they stared dating) it was soo good

This book is so hilarious like I was laughing in almost every chapter 😂

This book is top notch ✨

I always love the way she writes her characters the way they like have this inner monologue as if they're talking to me is fabulous 🤭
The pep talks Skye was giving herself were so funny, and entertaining

How could I forget her side characters two words: they ate.
They were the cherry on top honestly I loved how Dria and Zoya are just suckers for romance and love we would definitely be besties
I need Anna and Matt to have their own story cause asap (please:)

Obviously what's a pixie books without fire kisses, let me also tell you the tension and the banter out of this world

Can't forget the communication it was too good this is what we are here,
it was done so well I began to be speechless they literally talked about everything and I loved that

So if you like:
🍩best friends to lovers(done right)
🍩swoony kisses
🍩banter for days
🍩tension
🍩hilarious
🍩wrist kisses
🍩fake engagement
🍩communication
🍩he's great with kids
🍩donuts (ofc)
