The manga series that inspired a hit anime adaptation, for fans of Yotsuba&!

Ichijo Hotaru
Fifth grade transfer student from Tokyo. Ever since she came here, every season has passed so quickly and so happily. She’ll be graduating in the blink of an eye.

Koshigaya Komari
Eighth grader at Asahigaoka Branch School. Graduation, huh…? Maybe she’ll cry when it’s her turn. She hasn’t given up on growing into a tall, proud woman by then.

Miyauchi Renge
First grader, the youngest of the five students at Asahigaoka Branch School. Nii-nii’s graduation makes her a teensy bit sad, even though she can see him any old time.

Koshigaya Natsumi
Seventh grader at Asahigaoka Branch School. Normally, graduation has you bawling your eyes out, right? She’s got nothing but great memories of school…except for tests.

Oh, no! The final regular volume of this series, which we have loved as both a manga and anime.

Ch. 115 - Excellent chapter, where we learned that most Japanese schools have "7 wonders" (or "7 mysteries. I had vaguely heard of a series called "Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun", but didn't know that many schools supposedly have a bathroom ghost).

Ch. 116 - Marking one year since Hotaru moved to town. We liked the side note: "Ichijo Hotaru: She's learned in the past year that when Komari takes her weird engine to full throttle, it's impossible to apply the brakes."

Ch. 117 - Dodgeball

Ch. 118 - Cooking/baking competition between Komari and Natsumi. We wished they would forget the rivalry, and just enjoy learning and eating together.

Ch. 119 - Focus on the adults for a change (Kaede, Kazuho and Konomi). We liked that Kazuho was shown with more depth, not just as a sleepyhead.

Ch. 120 - Graduation, grass-sledding and the gang watches Shiori when her mom goes to the hospital to have a baby. It was touching to see Renge helping make Shiori feel safe.

Ch. 121 - First day of school. The chapter wasn't marked and was better in anime form, but we liked a scene with Renge where she is clearly skeptical about her big sister's claim of always being as awake and energetic as she is this morning.

Afterword - Normal thank you message, but it says this is the last volume. A special volume is supposed to be coming out. From what I've googled, it will be called "Non Non Biyori Remember" but isn't yet available in English despite its serialization ending in January 2022.

Hard to believe that the 16 volumes pretty much were 1 year of life of these characters. What a good series and I believe it ended in a great way for all the fans. That, I have learned, is a harder thing to accomplish or accommodate then one thinks. The series also did not outstay its welcome and ended at what I would argue is the perfect length. I recommend checking out the anime if you have not as well. The creators (Team Atto) have done such a good job I am going to be looking into any other series they are involved in. More series need to leave you with these vibes.

Aww, what a cute ending. I like that we got to check back in with everyone right at the end, where everyone has grown and changed but there is still as much to explore as ever.
