Ryan Kaine #7

On the Wing

Rate this book
Ryan Kaine is on the wing…

When alleged murderer, Melanie Archer, is violently assaulted and left for dead by unknown attackers, she reaches out to the only organisation who might be able to save her life, The 83 Trust.

But before Ryan Kaine is willing to help her and put his team in danger, he wants to determine her guilt or innocence — in person. Against the advice of his closest allies, he and his insistent partner, Lara, con their way into the lion’s den — the last place he’d ever be expected to go willingly.

Unarmed and with no eyes or ears inside the prison, Kaine and Lara are trapped, with only a hasty disguise and a false identity preventing them from taking a permanent holiday at Her Majesty’s pleasure… or worse.

Is Kaine willing to risk everything to save her?

If you like Lee Child, Mark Dawson and Robert Ludlum, you’re going to find the Ryan Kaine series compulsively addictive.

Kerry J. Donovan

#1 bestselling author with the US-based Lucky Shores romantic suspense series and the Ryan Kaine military action thrillers, and creator of the popular DCI Jones Casebook series of police procedurals, Kerry J Donovan was born in Dublin, before spending many formative years in West Wales.

Kerry earned a first-class honours degree in Human Biology and a PhD in Sport and Exercise Sciences. A former scientific advisor to The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, he helped UK emergency first-responders prepare for chemical and biological attacks in the wake of the 9/11 atrocities. This background adds a keen scientific edge to Kerry’s writing.

Kerry’s life experiences help him add an extra layer of realism to his stories and his characters. For example, readers will discover the water-borne adventures of his action hero, Ryan Kaine, a former member of the Royal Navy’s Special Boat Services, as authentic and exciting as a night-time dip in the Bay of Biscay.

As the owner of a “pristine” Honda NC750X, you’ll often find him touring the less well-known regions of Europe in search of interesting locations for his novels. A life-long sports enthusiast and open-water swimmer, the moment Kerry catches a glimpse of the ocean, it’s off with the bike leathers and on with his wetsuit.

A citizen of the world, Kerry recently returned from spending two decades living in the heart of rural Brittany and now lives with Margaret in a recently renovated bungalow in Nottinghamshire, UK.

When not writing, Kerry enjoys riding his motorbike, jogging, swimming, spending time with his four wonderful grandchildren, and travelling the world.

A member of The 83 is viciously attacked …

…Someone wants her to die in prison.

Who will risk everything to save her?

When alleged murderer, Melanie Archer, is violently assaulted and left for dead by unknown attackers, she reaches out to the only organisation who might be able to save her life, The 83 Trust.

But before international fugitive and former Royal Marine, Ryan Kaine, puts his team in danger to help her, he wants to determine her guilt or innocence—in person. Against the advice of his closest allies, he and his insistent partner, Lara, con their way into the lion’s den—the last place he’d ever expect to go willingly.

Unarmed and with no eyes or ears inside the prison, Kaine and Lara are trapped, with only a hasty disguise and a false identity preventing them from taking a permanent holiday at Her Majesty’s pleasure …or worse.

Using his well-honed instincts, a mountain of luck, and the fear of incarceration to his best advantage, Ryan Kaine is … On the Wing.

We have another hit, another great book from Kerry J. Donovan, these books are always well paced, fast paced added with great strong characters that are getting better, the dry humour between the team is great, with a special mention to Danny this time, and it is great to bring out the personalities of other member of Ryan Kaine's team.

One slight fault for me personally is the end, a great build up, no conclusion... yet !!

I cannot say more about this book, but I do recommend highly this series, this author...

All I can say it looks like I will have to catch up with his other series of books by DCI Jones, which I have not read yet !

My next problem.... which book to read next... The latest Gregg Hurwitz (Orphan X), the latest LT Ryan (Rachel Thatch third book), or the latest book in the series of Jon Reznick series by JB Turner or Robert Beyndza's new series with Kate Marshall(Nine Elms).

I really enjoy the Ryan Kaine series. Another family member of the 83 is in trouble and so Ryan and Lara need to find a way to help Melanie Archer who is on remand for murdering her husband. Did she kill him and how does Ryan find a way to communicate with her? Read it and see how Kerry J. Donovan finds ways to make it happen.

I received a review copy from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. This is another winner in the amazing Ryan Kaine series. These characters have now become people I know and enjoy spending time with. They have adventures that I can only dream of, but by allowing me to tag along, they help me escape my day to day life for a little while. As you can tell, Mr. Donovan has created characters who come alive on the pages of his book. Their stories are involved and keep the reader on the edge of their seat, not knowing what's coming next. One of my favorite parts of this series is the relationship between Ryan and Lara. Their relationship has been tested by fire and come out stronger on the other side. It is so enjoyable for me to have a strong relationship portrayed in this series without graphic or gratuitous sex scenes. Another characteristic of a great writer.
If you haven't read the Ryan Kaine series you need to. Just be sure that you start with book 1; after that, the order isn't as crucial even though they are more enjoyable in order. But you need book one to set the foundation and have a complete understanding of where Ryan has come from. I can't wait to see what is coming up next.

This is the 7th book in the Ryan Kaine 83 Series. It’s an exciting series about a man who was set up to perform an act that turned out to be murder of a whole plane full of people. Now he has the law after him as a suspected terrorist and the people that hired him want him dead so that they aren’t discovered. It’s now his mission to give back to the families of the murdered passengers of Flight #83. Each book is able to be read as a standalone story, but they each have the threads of the original Flight #83 tragedy linked to them, so it’s a fantastic series that’s worth reading from beginning to end. I know I await each book anxiously- wondering what will happen next.

In On the Wing, Melanie Archer is a young woman who has been imprisoned awaiting trial for the murder of her husband. Beaten badly while in the showers, she is taken to the hospital wing and learns that she might be able to get help from the group that supports the families of Flight #83. She can’t believe that anyone as vile as the man that killed her brother and the rest of the passengers would do anything to help her, but it’s worth a try right? But how can she get past the nosy guards, especially the one that has his eye on her? Is it worth taking the chance?

I find this is the most unusual Ryan Kaine book yet.

This is for several reasons: 1. each of the chapters listed in the beginning are headed by date, time of day or person, and place; 2. the book starts out with a woman named Melanie Archer is in a prison for killing her husband, but was being severely beaten in a shower by unknown persons. So who is Melanie Archer?

After being patient, we find that Melanie's brother Brendan was on the ill-fated Flight BE1555 that Ryan Kaine was coerced into shooting down with a rocket launcher.

Enter Ryan Kaine, his companion and love, Lara, and The 83 Trust to investigate her claims and protect her until her trial while she waits in a prison wherein she might not live long enough to make it to the trial.

So be sure to follow Ryan, Lara, and their cohorts to the exciting finish!

Better without all that racist BS.....much better !!

I liked this book alot better !! No racist bologne, not a lot of politically incorrect language.......
Much better !!!
In this book we meet Melanie Archer, A woman accused of killing her abusive husband who had had a stroke. As far as I can remember, his death was alluded to , but not solved absolutely.
So , this Melanie, is of course , one of the' 83, and Kaine and crew have to help. Not as much action in this book , but I thoroughly enjoyed it just the same !
On to the next in this series !!

I have thoroughly enjoyed the Ryan Kaine series. Great on going character development. I love how author Donovan continues Ryan Kaine’s development of a softer side to his persona. Terrific action in each novel. My only complaint with “On the Wing” is it ended abruptly. What happens to the main character, Melanie, I assume will be completed in Book 7 of the series. For all readers who want to be rivited by execrable persons having justice visited upon them by Ryan Kaine, this is the series to read. Denny

I have been reading this series since I was made aware of it, it states on the cover "for Jack Reacher Fans" so I wanted to see what or if any it stood up to a Lee Child Novel.

Here is my takeaway, it the opposed to any Jack Reacher book, it is a well-written and carefully crafted book, I like the action scenes, in fact after reading one fight scene I found myself to be winded from the action.

I also like the fact that Mr. Donovan does not get into the why's and how's of the bad guys, they are dispatched and done with and the story moves on. Sometimes less is more.

Lost for words on this novel!

This is not in a bad way either. Having come back to decent length novels after Book 6, I was so engrossed in it that I did not realise the end had come. Now this continues in a different book. Just going to have to purchase this to see how it all turns out.
Lara has again made her mark with Ryan by being alongside him in his escapades. And his fear of being incarcerated nearly came true except for some of the Kaine luck. Another good story which not only shows up their relationship but the fact that Ryan is no longer a young man.

Ryan and Lara received an SOS

They were on there way to a few days well earned rest when they received an SOS message from the 83 Webb page, plans changed again.
Turns out A women who is on prison charged with her husband’s murder. Ryan had to find out if she had actually killed her husband and qualify for their kind of help.and that could mean going into the actual prison to meet Mrs Archer, the women says she needs help and is claiming to be innocent.
Hard to put down, another excellent book.

The great Ryan Kaine is running scared of a ‘wee slip of a thing’. The 7th book in the series only took a short while, before I fully understood the link with earlier books. I’ve been enjoying following Ryan’s campaign to support his victims’ families and it was good to come across Mike and Danny again. I’m still waiting to find out when, if ever, Ryan’s name will be cleared.....will that happen in On the Hunt?

I loved the first part of the book. The person in danger is in prison and Ryan and Laura spring her with great danger to themselves. Then the story changes to a problem that Ryan's friend Danny gets involved with. It's all very impassioned. However, I really wanted to know the outcome of the lady from prison. She may be safe for now, but Ryan Kaine usually doesn't stop before the actual culprit is caught, and that didn't happen here.

Helping another of the 83

Still dedicated to helping those related to the 83 lost souls from the aircraft he shot down, Ryan heads into a prison. Where else would a most wanted man wish to go. Not everyone on his team is convinced that this one should be helped but Ryan decides she is deserving. Now to get her out. Maybe the bad guys will help, though it is not clear she will survive their assistance.

Well this was.different. a bit shorternof a story and while interesting, it ends mid story.

One needs tomfiniah the story in a DCI Jones book.

I had not read anu of the Jones books, although I enjoy his character. So, I went on and read that book.

But disappointed to not finish the story in this book.

Oh well, I got over it.

what a great book

I am fortunate enough to have started to read this author’s books and have to say that although I have read a number of them this is the best yet, a thoroughly thrilling story and seems to have a follow on which I am looking forward to reading. I highly recommend this book to others.

Is the author running out of ideas?

I had enjoyed this series up to number 5 but found 6 a total let down. I was enjoying On The Wing but found the ending left too many unanswered questions. I hope that 'On The Hunt' when it comes out is worth a read.

I’m lamenting the fact that I’m nearing the end of this series of books. I have enjoyed each one and need my sleep as I can’t put the books down once started. Onwards to book 8 of 10. …..

I started to read this while at the hairdressers and despite bits of hair falling in my face, I couldn’t put it down. Having finished I’m now gorging on the next one as I have to find out what happens to Melanie Archer!

Liked the characters and the departure from the 83 mission. Everyone is shown more human and are doing things that get them in trouble. The ending leads into the next book well. I realize that some back story is necessary for those who begin the series in the middle, but sometimes there is too much for me.

prison exciting

With prison so close for Ryan, it made for an exciting story line.
Very disappointing in so many loose ends to this story. Seems like the author just got tired and gave up. You can do better than this story!
