*** Edited 13/02/23 *** Of course a supposed vacation couldn't stay that way for Ever and the guys. With the arrival of Atlas and the mysteries that seem to grow the longer they're around him, including how he not only knows the new bartender in town but gives him orders of a questionable nature that are followed without hesitation but with a knowing smile.
Throw in snow storms, assholes and a hot tub and this vacation is turning into a rollercoaster ride. It doesn't look like things are going to calm down when they get home either, when the detective in charge of Ever's case has some news that shocks them all and throws them straight into a tail spin.
Ever and her guys are in for one hell of a ride and it's only just getting started. . .
This is a dark, medium burn, contemporary reverse harem that will have some m/m.
Please be advised that this book contains dark themes, including abuse, violence and cursing. Additionally, sexual themes suitable for mature audiences 18+. All sex is consensual.

Since then, Nikita Parmenter Author has published a number of short stories and bestselling books.
4 stars! This book was way better than the first. The development of all her relationships and how they progress through the book was really written well. Loved Atlas as a character. The final chapter was surprising; can't wait for the next book and how Ever's story continues.
With the kidnapping behind her, Ever looks forward to her first real Christmas since her mother died, and even more the trip to the cabin with her guys. If it goes as planned, she will get to meet their mysterious friend Atlas. As her feelings deepen Ever promises to talk to the boys at the end of their trip. It's going to be an action-packed holiday.
I would like an explanation from any of the 5 star reviewers regarding their review. Yes, this is an entertaining enough story. It's very insta and not overly original, pieces borrowed from here and there, but that's okay. The characters are likable enough and the plot compelling enough to make it enjoyable. However, if you have a reading level above third grade, how can you not subtract stars for the errors??? I marked the major errors only and counted 266. That's not including punctuation or lesser known rules. It's not including the many run-on sentences that make up entire paragraphs. That's unacceptable. Any author should take more care. Again, I will state if English is not your first language, get a proof reader, beta team, critique partner, or editor. If you are not American, research or keep your book in England. The story is just not special enough to overlook so many errors. This book could easily be a 3 1/2 star but if the author doesn't care about her readers enough to clean up the errors, it must have deductions.
I have to voice my biggest complaints. 1. Can we forbid the author from using any derivative of the words sit or stand until she learns tenses? 2. An apostrophe is used to show a contraction, a possessive noun, or plurals of numbers or letters. You don't throw it into a word simply because you like how it looks. It has a purpose. 3. If you are making the characters American, don't use British spelling or British terms. Examples: pajamas, not pyjamas, favorite, not favourite. We don't use jumper for a sweater; it's a one-piece garment here. We don't have footballers, and although we should, we don't use cheeky. We DO NOT USE whilst. 4. Taught is the past tense of teach; taut would describe their muscles. 5. If you are going to have everyone use nicknames, remember who calls Ever what. Every single guy called her Dragonfly at one point or another. 6. Don't write about the US legal system without researching. This part was ridiculous. 7. It does not snow in Fresno. It's lazy to not research the areas you are writing about.
In this books were less typos or other mistakes. So the writing did not bother me much. The building of the relationship was nice. I did not like the insta love Atlas and Ever had for each other, but I’m no big fan of it. It took Ever only a look, and Atlas needed some convincing. But at the end of the time at the cabin he was 100% in, before he was in with less %!
It was an okay read and I will read the next book too.
The Characters: Names and descriptions of the persons
Read the first one, wasn't remotely impressed but thought I'd give the second book a try to see if it was an improvement..
Nope. This is truly awful and I'm floored that it's carrying such a high overall rating.
Everleigh is a poorly written, one-dimensional FMC that the author desperately tries to paint in a particular light (so badass, so beautiful, so amazing, more badass, beautiful, and amazing than any other girl ever) but is unsuccessful at making it feel even remotely believable. Everleigh's character, and her own POV narration is so over the top (repetitive, superfluous, annoying, nonsensical babbling).
More unbelievable is the seven man harem that Everleigh finds herself with. The insta-love here is vomit inducing, and the guys are virtually carbon copies of one another. The interactions between Everleigh and her men consist of groans, heated stares, and overuse of pet names in what I'm sure was supposed to be sweet but is really just infuriating to read. Like can we not attempt to be more subtle and genuine here?
Don't get me started on the truly terrible elements of writing here - it's all awful, like what is even happening? What was that ending? Who says 'whilst' and 'hence' this much in actual conversation?
Loved it! We finally get to meet Atlas and man do I love him , can't wait for more.
On another note , there are quite a few spelling faults , so I hope that in book 3 its being looked at better. I know its fiction and while I love the book somethings are still a little to over top , like in the last chapter where it was mentioned that before Atlas the boys always had weapons on and that they were also on display , the fact is the parents are either completely clueless or don't care and I wonder why.
Its a little to unbelievable although I love the story , so I'll just let it sail over my head.
Ps : my guess is that Atlas's dad was Ever's dad boss. 🤐 what else could it be .... he send her stalker back to her , probably to get rid of her problem and another thing do you think that Atlas or his brother are students at the cut throat new college? I mean it sounds like this is a school for Mafia kids 😅
Let me start this off by saying that this series is insta-love and insta-lust. It's cringey, for lack of a better term, there's an overuse of pet names, and this is definitely just all filler. Everleigh is painfully one-dimensional and extraordinary at everything. She's sweet, she's kind, she's badass, she's beautiful, she gets all the guys to drop at her feet, everyone loves her except for the classic mean-girl, etc. The guys (all S.E.V.E.N. of them,) are also painfully one-dimensional except for Atlas, who I admit, was the only reason I read this novel and will be the only reason why I read the next one. Oh, and I want to meet Rage.
There's obviously a multitude of tropes stuffed into the plot. The guys are all badass and are willing to kill, as well as Ever, who's honestly very Mary-Sue-like. You have the dominating Alpha leader, all of them have fucked up pasts and whatnot - you get what I mean. It's just a tumbling mess of the YA and RH genre with a HINT of dark themes, all of which is pretty much brought by Atlas.
Again, swoon.
I've read a bit of this author's past work (much to my distaste) and found the same mistakes, just...worse. Parmenter is great at writing plots, or at least, the beginning of them. We never see much past the blurb because the execution almost always flops. This one is just good enough that it's bearable, but there were multiple instances, just as all of the author's other work, where I wanted to DNF.
Why, may you ask, do I continue to torture myself with shitty RH novels? One, because I'm a glutton for punishment, and two, there are some instances where you meet characters like AHEM AHEM Atlas and...*swoon.* (I feel like I'm overhyping him now. Half of the reason why I'm interested is because he's the biggest asshole of the group and the other is because he's shrouded in mystery and I'm one fucking curious kitten.)
All of my other fellow reviewers have taken it upon themselves to explain the author's use of the English language, grammar, and punctuation, and I would like to say it was bad enough that while I was skimming this novel because I couldn't bear to physically read it, I found more grammatical and punctuational issues than I'd have liked. Hiring editors is expensive, I know, but even I could edit a novel better than whatever was going on over there. Americans don't say jumper, we just say hoodie or jacket, depending on which you were referring to. We don't say favourite, we say favorite. Taught is past tense for teach, and taut does not mean the word taught in the sense that I just mentioned as well as taut, like taut muscles. (The word was used in two different sentences right next to each other in different definitions.) The "favourite-favorite" mix up especially irked me because while I understand living in England and speaking British English might make it hard to edit a novel into American English, it's an obvious and well known detail that Americans do not spell favorite - or any other words in the "orite" family that way.
I don't think I've mentioned the ending, but seriously??? Yet fucking again, another trope! Guess what, guys, we're moving to the academy! Academy RH Romance, here we come!
Nonetheless, I'm actually (sadly) sort of excited because I need to know what the fuck is going on with Atlas and what's going to go down when they move into his version of crazy-town.
I've given one star for effort, and the other entirely to Atlas in hopes that all of this build-up is actually worth something.
Okay so the story is wonderful. I love that each main character has a darker side that my dark little heart loves. But for all things wonderful please have an editor go through it. There are so many typos, missing words *I wink him*, and lots of switched words like our/out. If you don't have an Alpha, Beta team, and ARC readers I would suggest that also.
Okay enough of the downer stuff. These books have me hooked. Honestly I tried to put it down a few times when the need for edits were just too much, but I couldn't because I had so many questions. I'm so excited to see where this next book is going to take Ever and the guys. I NEEEEEEEED more Atlas. And if Jensen isn't your favorite then I'm not your people lol. Even though the timeline moves at a slower pace there's plenty of meat to the plot, twist and turns, mystery, and let's not forget the steam. Also I laughed so much. I have weird humor, but this book had me howling more than once.... okay way more than once. Anyway, readers I want to say take a chance and read Ever's story, but I need to caution if typos make you irrational... I don't know, the story has been incredible so far and when book three comes along I can tell you I'll be reading it even if it needs edits.
This series just gets more twisted, more shocking, more sexy and more insane. The ending was like 'WHAT??' and the addition of Atlas was just awesome. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book Twisted Complications.
That is the best I can say for this book. First, you have a British author trying to write American kids so the day some weird stuff like whilst all the time. Second, the author never seems to know how to use the proper tense for the words sat and stood. I don't know if that is a British thing or not, but it is weird. Third, preposition often aren't correct or again don't often match the tense either. Fourth, this is the second book on the series and it felt like it. Did any of you ever read The Lord of the Ring: The Two Towers, remember the stairs that Friday and Sam climbed. That is what this book feels like an endless stair case and when you finally reach the end you are waiting for the next book. The story line in the first book was a bit like this, but you were also meeting the characters and establishing relationships so it was OK. This time it is not. Out of 328 pages only 28 were really necessary, but I will read the next one. I hope it is only a three book series because it will probably lose me entirely if I have to read another story where all we do is climb stairs, there needs to be some answers 2 books with none is more than enough.
OMG😔 this book was so boring! Literally, nothing really important happened except Ever finally met up Atlas and they all shared their feelings and their will to be all together eventually (took time🙄). The worse is that you have to read more than 70% of the book to get at it!!! The book needs serious skimming in order to make it less slow paced! I think 50% of the text is useless and there are too long and boring descriptions. Anyway, I read it and can only hope that the next one will be better😅
This one was much better than the first one! Even though there were still a LOOOT of grammar mistakes and very annoying use of verb tenses and just changing between speaking in the present and then the past. Hated her using British words when they are all clearly Americans, disturbed me a lot and was very distracting. But I did love finally meeting Atlas, but it was very fast paced and slightly unrealistic. I still loved the story and I need the next book, the endings are killing me. I really hope the author starts correcting her mistakes and takes the time to actually do som basic research before writing her next book.
It took a really weird and hard to believe turn at the end there. If the author wanted to write an academy series she should have just started a new one. It doesn’t make any sense at all. And this one had so much filler I skipped a lot. Like talking about every darn meal they ate and what it was.
Ok a few things to get out of the way. The writing isn’t bad at all, there are a few repeated phrases and such like reluctantly is said like 5x in a two span page or some things that were said are re said. In addition to already have been revised/edited the book still could use a bit more editing. The spelling, missing helping verbs and the CONSTANT misusage of bought and brought. I have numerous highlights of this happening. Idk if the author doesn’t know the difference or is using an iPad that corrects the proper words to something else each time, but seriously that one got to be a bit much. There were also random periods where I expected commas to be and then random commas in places I don’t think commas were supposed to go, but I’m not entirely certain on that as grammar isn’t a major strength of mine. I still noticed these things however.
Despite all of that the story isn’t bad. I actually found myself chuckling and grinning while reading in certain parts, being anxious in others and concerned in others. I actually like the guys and I really like Atlas. I like that Ever can see each of them.
The ending of this book took an unexpected turn. I wasn’t sure how getting everyone together would work, but this ending is different. I’m excited to see how this plays out but I don’t want any unnecessary “we need to break up” crap. So fingers crossed that isn’t a thing in the next book. But I’m hooked now!
I get what the author is trying to do. There is a decent story in there somewhere but it’s so poorly executed that it doesn’t really come through. Ever is incredibly annoying and the guys tended to blend together more often than not. I had to push hard to finish this book. Things don’t line up, some aspects are completely illogical and considering this isn’t listed as a fantasy, I expected some logic. Also, if you’re going to write in British English, maybe don’t place the book in the USA unless you have the characters actually be from there. I’m not gonna pick this book to pieces, though I could, because other reviews have done a good job of pointing out the flaws in this series. I really think there is some semblance of a decent story line in there. As it is right now, it’s just not for me.
Loved the book, except the spelling issue, and Marc suddenly became Matt? Whats up with that? It soon changed back to Marc, but i was just sucked out of the book completly, wondering if i missed something with this Matt guy.
We get to meet Atlas and that seems the turning point from friendship to relationship. Also threads of the past are more intertwined than Ever knows and the past is not yet done with her.
The overload of misplaced comma's did nearly caused me a DNF though......
It’s the multiple POVs in this one that kept it at 3 stars. Ever is like a roller coaster - one minute really confident and strong and then next spiralling without the guys. I get that she has a messed up past but sometimes it was really OTT and she came across really shallow. Each of the guys personalities tended to blend at times too. I found myself having to think through who, what and where things were happening that I couldn’t fully immerse myself into this story. Speaking of storyline - pretty thin in this book too. With so many offshoots of stories happening with each guy and Ever this could have been a very engaging book but unfortunately not many issues are delved into deeply enough. The lead up to the next book is looking interesting but again seems to be a lot shoved into a series and my hope is that it is fleshed out a bit more and doesn’t get hung up on angst and the relationship.
Ok let me start by saying this book is still so good. The problem is that I can’t give the author 5 stars for writing 300+ pages of what unfortunately amounts to filler. There are a few details about the plot that are revealed. But then, at the end, as she’s prepping to frame the third story, she completely changes the genre of the story. The next book is clearly going to be an academy reverse harem. And yes she still uses the word “whilst” way to much. There are fewer things like grammar that give away that the author is British in this installment but they are still there. The book is good but I just can’t give 5 stars to 300 pages of filler. I’m hoping the next one will answer the questions. She can’t draw this out much longer without starting to lose her readers.
I'd give this ten stars if I could, but since I can't, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Oh goddess, I desperately need the next book. This one was amazing! Atlas was exactly how I imagined he'd be but so much better. And that ending? That was definitely not where I saw this going. But damn am I looking forward to seeing how it's going to be for them later, and to meeting Atlas again. I nearly cried when they had to separate to stay safe. There were so many moments in this book that made me go 'Awww' and others that had me laughing until my stomach ached. The only thing that worked against the book were the multiple spelling mistakes (eg. 'I lost my patients' instead of 'I lost my patience') and punctuation errors that really messed up how the sentences were read, but these didn't really bother me much since my brain naturally edits for me while I read and I usually don't even notice them. A better job could be done with the editing next time, though.
it’s like reading a bad wattpad story: good ideas, and everything else is bad.
-atlas is a great character, but i hate that they fell in love under 1 day. -she has so many nicknames, you would forget her name :/ -too much love and at the same time, not enough? i need more one on one. -english is my second language, and even i see how bad the writing/editing is. also, there’s random words that seem to be from a higher level of english and i don’t get why she would use them ahaha -it’s. so. slow. 474 pages covered two weeks of story? ugh -british english words when the story is set in the usa - jensen is by far my favorite! i love that he’s so clumsy, everyone else is perfect. literally, they’re good at everything it seems. -i have second hand embarrassment every chapter :( -i feel like they laugh A LOT and it’s never funny..
anyway. i’m suffering through the book, but i’ll still read the next one because i don’t know how to stop once i start lol
An average book. Terrible grammar and spelling mistakes. Lacking real sexual chemistry. A fairly good story idea though which is what kept me reading through the rest. The biggest issue for me though was the whole ‘not like other girls’ pick me narrative she has throughout the series. You can have a strong woman without needing to put down the rest of the female population by painting them as vindictive b!tches or weak girly girls. Ever may have weapons and combat experience that makes her different from a lot of other girls (and men) but there is nothing unique about her personality or attitude. Massive internalised misogyny in this book. How can you want to write ‘strong female characters’ whilst simultaneously putting down the rest of the women in the world? Where’s the strength in that?! Do better.
Terribly written...and I mean TERRIBLY. It was as if a third grader whose first language was not English tried to write a book after drinking three RedBulls. There were literally thousands of mistakes throughout the entire book. It was painful to read. I'm surprised Nikita's literary friend helped get her published with how poorly written her books are. There's definitely potential, but she definitely needs to send the books to a handful of beta writers to make them worth reading. I'm honestly embarrassed for the author to advertise this as her work with how horrible it is.
Amazing! I’ve been looking forward to this book forever. And I’m so happy for it. It was a great read. Mostly just getting to know a new character and fun times. Not really any drama or anything. But a great read. I’m so excited for the next book. See how this goes and hopefully get some answers.
I stayed up all night to read this could not put it down at all! Absolutely loved the book and the twists it's taken! Next book cannot come fast enough!!!
I really enjoyed the first one because I knew it was a series and expected there to be some major development but unfortunately, I felt let down.
First off, this sorry continues to get more and more unrealistic. Like wildly unrealistic. For example, the guys are all the football team, but almost never at practice. They’re in this amazing shape. But hit the gym mom/exercise sporadically and eat like crap. They have all of this power over adults supposedly but are literally children whose parents/ guardians somehow have no clue what they’re up to. They all have copious amounts of money for no reason. Jensen is supposed to be some investment guru but no indicators of this at all, just what is mentioned. Cars that materialize at their convenience with no logical reason why. Also the fact that Ever can do no wrong unless she’s being closed off. The characters say repeatedly about how perfect she is with no real discernment in her behavior or things to be improved upon.
Secondly, I lost count of the amount of times we get the scene where someone underestimates the main character’s strength and gets their ass handed to them and the boys get mad. It’s done repeatedly and by the end is kind of boring and stale. Not to mention, again, little evidence in her actions that she possess all of these various skills other than her saying so. We don’t see indicators of these skills until she’s in a situation where it’s convenient for her to have them. So she’s in expert in MMA, knives, and guns without any real training or resources? And beyond just defending herself, she’s basically good at everything like cooking for example; somehow she had time to learn to cook and bake to perfection even though she barely could eat for 8 years and had no practice.
Thirdly, and my biggest complaint is that the majority of the writing isn’t purposeful. In this book we get muli POV but aren’t provided any unique voices. It sounds like the same character repeatedly. The first book did a decent job of differentiating between everyone in the harem by giving them specific major roles (Rafe had a stutter, Riot’s parents were homophobic, Luc’s parents are overly religious and victim blame, Cash’s parents are rich, Ever lives with Trick, Jensen has difficulty regulating his anger, and Atlas is the wild card). A lot of the progression of the characters are things said not described.
The spicy scenes were short and lacking because instead of describing what the characters were feeling and their experience, we simply get the actions. Ever acts surprised every single time that the guys react to what she considers to be darker parts of herself or her past even though they act the same consistently. There’s nothing in the way her character is written to indicate that she should be so surprised, yet throughout the book we’re strung along with her worry they won’t feel the same way even though the conversation about how they feel about her is stated in multiple ways by all the characters in a very clear way.
Lastly, the pacing of the story is weird. The majority of the over 400 page book takes place at the cabin which is less than a week. So the whole book, similarly to the last one it seems like actual plot is moving super slowly because nothing that is being hinted at is actually happening. So yeah we have the Jeremy stalker in the first one. But in this one, the characters keep talking about how dangerous everything is (and to be fair for Ever they are) but it’s mostly just build up.
And if we think about the time when Ever first got to Oregon up until the end of this book, it couldn’t have been more than a couple of months. And that’s generous considering Thanksgiving isn’t mentioned and we’re barely after the holiday break at the end of this one. So you mean to tell me that in less than two months her triggers to trauma have disappeared almost completely, she’s comfortable enough to trust and have fallen in love with six guys she hadn’t spoke to in eight years and one guy in less than a week? I’m gonna call bs. Not to mention they’re going away to an academy in the middle of their last semester of high school? An all boys high school? I can only image there will be a full repeat of the scenes where she’s underestimated and beats people up with her guys angry and threatening death to everyone.
So unfortunately, I’m stopping here in the series. I usually have this issue with high school RH books and them being far too far fetched to go along with them. But if being relatively realistic isn’t something that’s necessary for you, then you might enjoy this one.
