This is an enthralling exploration of the star on our doorstep, charting the journey from ancient superstition to deep scientific mysteries yet to be resolved. The Sun examines how we have come to understand the features and processes at work in our star, starting with the earliest observations of mysterious sunspots and ending with the rich and complex investigation of the connected Sun–Earth system. It reveals the interconnected sciences involved in finding out more about the Sun and the practical importance of doing so for our modern world.
Sun is part of the Illuminates series of short, accessible books that examine amazing aspects of space, brought to you by Royal Observatory Greenwich.
This is the third book I read from the “Illuminates” series published by the Royal Observatory Greenich, alongside Aurorae: Royal Observatory Greenwich Illuminates and Space Exploration: Royal Observatory Greenwich Illuminates. I found this one to be of a little lower quality in terms of writing and structure, with too much going back and forth with the narration. Besides that, it still delivers an interesting and complete introduction to the topic (The Sun, and by extension probably other suns too), while keeping the text accessible and easy to follow.
