Chicago is a muddy, monster-infested city, home to the both the penniless and the filthy rich. Levi Cannon is among the latter, but he doesn’t quite fit the mold of the upper class.
His reputation says it all—from unsuitable women to unseemly weapons to an inappropriate attitude toward the family business. Worse, he secretly wants to hunt monsters, an occupation filled by lowlifes, outlaws, and bums.
His brother, Amos, has always been the respectable one, and Levi’s father won’t let him forget it. It seems no matter what Levi does, he’ll never win his father’s favor.
When Amos is taken by sirens, Levi has reason to worry; these water-creatures devour men’s tongues to make their song sweet. Levi is suddenly thrust into the spotlight, giving him a chance to become the man his father wants him to be. The question is, will Levi do what is proper, or what is right?
Ensnared is a fun prequel romp to lead into the Clockwork Siren Series, to finish it off, or to read on its own.
Katie grew up in Racine, Wisconsin where she acquired an irreversible nasal twang and an addiction for books with a slightly dark edge. She now lives in Geneva, Switzerland with her husband, two daughters, and a very fuzzy cat. She has been an avid reader of YA fiction for years. While she has a penchant for the paranormal, she devours a range of books -- along with popcorn and black licorice. She consumes all three in large quantities. Luckily, the books don't stay on her hips.
Steampunk, Monsters and Killer Mermaids or should we call them Sirens? When his brother is taken by sirens and even though he manages to rescue him it's too late and his brother dies, our hero sets out on a quest to destroy all the monsters responsible. Great storylines with strong characters, Baz.
I enjoyed the first couple of books immensely. It’s good writing and an enjoyable story. However I am having trouble slogging through the one I am reading now because the monster/killer has a really hard time killing some of the monsters. The main enemy of these books so far, is a wealthy man who wanted the female lead to marry him. Other things happened and now he wants to hurt her, trap her ridicule her and maybe worse. Currently she is worried about a water goblin he has trapped and maybe sold to a circus for its freak show. Since water goblins are kind of close to piranha in behavior, why care? Why put yourself in danger? I will have to keep reading.
A timeless story of expectations and family conflict. Set in a near reality, slightly steampunk world with fantastical monsters and the ones who hunt them. The characters will grab your heart, earn your disdain and intrigue your interest. Enjoy this well written story.
