Here are just a few of the amazing things you will Barbie fans of all ages will love discovering—and rediscovering—Barbie dolls from the last 60 years!
I originally got this book as part of Inspiration for my job (making Displays), since Barbie debuted in March. I was amazed by the mass of history surrounding this iconic doll and how Barbie has continued to stand the test of time. The book begins at the start of Barbie's first appearance, her first major looks, then her career, Ken, her sisters, her home, her transportation, more of her career, her friends and of course, how she has evolved and become WAY more diversified than she originally was.
One of the things that I appreciated that the Book did was address WHY Barbie had the jobs she did. It wasn't just a marketing ploy, truthfully. She evolved with the changing of the times. She naturally was a lady astronaut with NASA space exploration, etc. Many of her jobs did also set her apart because she was usually an independent entrepreneur. If Barbie can do it, you can do it.
While many may scoff at Barbie's impossible figure or the ideals around her, her history in both women's history and the toy industry has weirdly stood up to the times. You will have to read the book to find out what I mean. I won't give away Barbie's secrets. I'll let her do that.
Great read for Doll Collectors, fans of Barbie or little ones looking at an icon, or just history fans, this was a fun gaze into history of one of the most iconic toys in History.
I bought this because I thought there might be some more Barbie interest because of the movie, and loved how this laid all the many different careers that Barbie had. There's just enough vintage stuff to amuse me, and newer stuff to make my students happy. We see the evolution of Barbie from the monolithic, cookie cutter doll of the 1950s to the ethnic and body type diversity that we see today. Very fun, and cements my opinion (that took years to form!) that Barbie is a positive influence on young girls.
But for me, it was always about the clothes. I'm giving a presentation tomorrow, and will be rocking a Barbie pink jacket!
Topics include an introduction, original dolls, the world of Barbe, cool careers, magic moments and Fashionistas. There is also a folds out collectible poster.
The book has lots of photos. Each section of the book is divided into various parts such as cool careers, accessories and signature style. The sections also have specific years that they cover.
It's a nice book with a lot of photos and bits of information.
