I wanna record all my reading on this app and idk how to review this seriously, so I won’t: boutta annihilate this exam after getting through this textbook. Illuminating passages and digestible illustrations. Probably the greatest textbook I’ve ever read. I think I’ll return later for some light reading!
No notes other than how my life has utterly changed since I learned that there was actually a pretty fucking good reason why uracil isn’t used in DNA oh my god
Overall, decent book. Covered pretty much everything needed for the biology section and was very comprehensive. Wasn't a fan of how chapters and concepts were organized. My personal least favorite: Chapter 10 - Homeostasis (grouping together skin and the excretory system in one chapter makes no sense conceptually). Another gripe I have is that a lot of the chapters felt like they were just throwing random facts at you - its on you to make connections between different facts and aspects of an organ system, which is annoying because a proper, comprehensive understanding of human physiology requires you to understand these connections. They jump around a lot within chapters and they don't really flow well. An example - talking about the fetal circulatory system BEFORE going over the circulatory system. Introducing terms like patent foramen ovale and patent ductus arteriosus before delving deeper into the path of blood flow through the body doesn't make much sense.
If you have no background in human physiology (like I did), you will likely need to supplement this prep book with another resource (maybe khan academy or something to fill in the gaps). But overall this resource was incredibly comprehensive, just a little hard to follow.
