Rate this book
"This book is wonderfully inclusive, and depicts a distinct and expressive cast of LGBTQIA characters and people of color." — School Library Journal

Now collected in a beautiful box set with brand-new box cover art, readers can experience The Tea Dragon Society, The Tea Dragon Festival, and The Tea Dragon Tapestry from start to finish. This charming and peaceful trilogy is heartwarming, inclusive, and absolutely magical.

The Tea Dragon Society
After discovering a lost tea dragon in the marketplace, Greta learns about the dying art form of tea dragon caretaking from the kind tea shop owners, Hesekiel and Erik. As she befriends them and their shy ward, Minette, Greta sees how the craft enriches their lives—and eventually her own.

The Tea Dragon Festival
Rinn has grown up with the Tea Dragons that inhabit their village, but stumbling across a real dragon turns out to be a different matter entirely! Aedhan is a young dragon who was appointed to protect the village, but fell asleep in the forest eighty years ago. With the aid of Rinn’s adventuring uncle Erik and his partner Hesekiel, they investigate the mystery of his enchanted sleep... But Rinn’s real challenge is to help Aedhan come to terms with feeling that he cannot get back the time he has lost.

 The Tea Dragon Tapestry
Join Greta and Minette once more for the heartwarming conclusion of the award-winning Tea Dragon series! Over a year since being entrusted with Ginseng's care, Greta still can't chase away the cloud of mourning that hangs over the timid Tea Dragon. Meanwhile, Minette receives a surprise package from the monastery where she was once training to be a prophetess. Told with the same care and charm as the previous installments of the Tea Dragon series, The Tea Dragon Tapestry welcomes old friends and new into a heartfelt story of purpose, love, and growth.

I didn’t expect something so short and simple to leave such a lasting impression, but it really did. The story itself is pretty straightforward, nothing wild or overly dramatic but the way it was told felt intentional and gentle, which honestly made it stand out more. It’s not about big plot twists, it’s about connection, healing, self rediscovery and the small ways people (and dragons) choose each other.

I especially appreciated how the trilogy connects all its characters across the different books, especially in The Tea Dragon Tapestry. It wrapped things up in a way that felt soft and complete, without being overly final. More like life just continuing on.

Also, the art. It tied everything together so well. The colors, the designs & even the expressions all added to that calming, healing feeling the story gave off.

Overall, it was a cozy & meaningful read. Definitely worth it if you’re into gentle stories with heart and absolutely lovely visuals.

The last couple of weeks the reading slump got me bad.

Therefore, I needed something quick and preferably wholesome which would make me eager to pick up a book again.

And the Tea dragon series is exactly that!!!

First off, it’s a graphic novel series, so it’s rather easy to read a whole chunk of it in no time.
Second, the premise with the tea dragons is the cutest thing you’ll find in a long time.

These two alone are enough reason to give it a go.
They’re not the only ones, however!!!

The whole story is heartwarming with a charming cast of characters.
It’s also extremely inclusive as there’s, among other things, disability, and queer rep.
And then there are these gorgeous illustrations which bring the world to life so you’ll never want to leave again.

And okay, maybe the plot isn’t the strongest. But it doesn’t have to be!
As the important parts are the character development and the morals it provides.
The story isn’t one of action but of belonging. It’s about keeping a trade alive and doing what you love. It’s about friendship, family, and of making memories with your people.

Lastly, it’s about the tea dragons.
These creators, while they can be a bit much, are extremely loyal and give back everything they take with love and affection. I adored learning about them and the info pages at the end of each volume were one of my favourite parts about the whole thing.

And honestly, now I want a tea dragon for myself!!!
Although my dog and cat would probably get jealous, so maybe that isn’t such a great idea…

I picked up this book because I had seen the board game, and had no idea it was based on a book. And I also had no idea what a beautiful journey I was about to embark on, once I started to read it.

But what is it about? Sure, it is about tea as well as adorable little dragons, but more than that, it is a book about the magic of everyday life. It romanticises slow living in a beautiful way, and discusses the idea of keeping craftmanship alive.

If I were to describe the book in one word, it would be serene. If you would allow me a few more, I would add that it is about patience, nostalgia, found family, grief, and the passage of time. A beautiful book, that I would recommend to just about anyone who needs some tranquillity in their lives.

⋆˙⟡ “Everything that happens is part of your wholeness. The sadness, the loss, the hurt, as well as the joy, the love, the friendship—it is all part of your tapestry. Remember, that you are already whole.”

I’ve read The Tea Dragon Series for the second time now, and it still never failed to make me emotional. For a set of short graphic novels, the series dives surprisingly deep into various themes all the while maintaining a light tone, and a solid, beautiful art style. It gives off soft fantasy vibes with its pastel hues and nature-inspired details. It’s really hard not to fall in love with the art style, because it’s screaming cottagecore in the softest and most wholesome way possible. It’s the kind of style I’ll never get tired of looking at.

Speaking of wholesome, which is another perfect word to describe this series and maybe the reason why it’s become my comfort read. It’s like free therapy indeed.

In all honesty, these are the only books I’ve read that are truly diverse and have inclusive representation. They feature disability representation (e.g. Hesekiel uses a wheelchair; in The Tea Dragon Festival, some of the characters use sign language), gender inclusivity, and characters of different skin colors.

Each books differ from themes, but The Tea Dragon Tapestry is probably my favorite. It deals with the struggle of finding one’s identity, growing, and discovering oneself. Honestly, this is the installment that really made me cry. Minette’s words, the ancestor’s lines, and the way the other characters offered their support to one another just hit me right in the heart. It’s hard not to get emotional. I also think it’s the longest among them, because it features more themes than the other two.

Overall, The Tea Dragon Series is deeply healing and comforting. I said it already but I’ll say it again, my personal favorite is The Tea Dragon Tapestry. It’s the kind of book you want to pick up when you feel lost or when you’re seeking gentle encouragement on your personal growth journey.

I liked the first and last one the best! The middle one goes back in time and follows different characters in a remote mountain village. Very sweet and wholesome with cute illustrations. I want to own these just so I can look through them when I am sad!

“You feel like you’ve lost your path. It’s alright to let those feelings wash over you, and give them time to soak into the earth. That’s when things start to grow again.”

4.5 cozy feelings stars

This is the definition of cozy fantasy. Learning to deal with grief, loss, change and finding your passion. You will tear up a bit, you will smile, your heart will grow ten sizes. The perfect pick me up.

"The Tea Dragon Society" series is a gentle, lovely fantasy graphic novel series that has radical but effortless representation. The characters come in all colors and sizes; there are inclusive depictions of disabled characters (deaf and wheel-chair user); there are queer characters, including a dragon that can transform between human and dragon form as well between male and female forms. But it all feels completely organic - just a beautiful depiction of a diverse, welcoming, open-hearted world.

There are three stories in the box set, and they are very, very cozy and low-stakes. There are no villains. Instead, the characters are trying to grow and learn and help each other. The artwork is beautiful and full of jewel-bright colors.

While the series is named for the tea dragons (little, Pokemon-esque creatures that don't do much other than look adorable), they really don't have much of a role in what little plot there is. I honestly would have liked MORE tiny dragon energy.

My 10yo daughter recommended this series to me, and I am so pleased and proud that she took all the joy and tenderness in it at face value and didn't question that two male characters could be in a loving, long-lasting relationship or that a male character could wear a skirt. I often feel like I am failing as a parent, but I must be doing at least something right.

If you are looking to read something wholesome and hopeful in this current 💩-show of a world, the Tea Dragon Society is a good choice.

sometimes you need something sickeningly sweet and charming to remind you that life is beautiful.

this acted as the antidote to all the bad feelings we could be rats stirred up in me (even if i do love when emily austin gives me said bad feelings). i don’t really know if this counts as a book? so i’m just going to log it (for the love of the game) but not add it to my goodreads challenge for this year ☕️🪴🌷🌱🍄🪷

one thing o’neill smashes out of the park every time is a cosy atmosphere and a killer colour palette. i wish i could be reincarnated as them so i could create such incredible and heartwarming pieces of art, but that would rob me the delightful experience of reading their work for myself.

A beautiful and adorable series for fans of tea, Dragons, and queer stories! I prefer the illustration style of the first book over the last two. I also wish there were more books in the series instead of seeming like it ended right after introducing me to a world and characters I want to know more about.

A feelgood, calm story about nature, tea and community, very much a balm for the soul. I enjoyed reading these three stories about Tea Dragons and their minders a lot and only regret that I did not do so with a fresh cup of tea by my side. I certainly recommend a read to calm down in otherwise busy times.

While tackling big topics like grief, belonging, and identity, these books are accessible and delightful reads. The characters are all complex, having real feelings and conflicts, and no one is trying to "fix" anyone else, focusing instead on being supportive and kind. Beautifully done, well worth multiple reads!

*Snort* no internet hugs were required but I did get the box set for a reduced price which was such a lovely surprise!

Also at the same time a new person was being born and somehow I really love that fact.

As a whole I really enjoyed this. The art is lovely, the stories are of the quiet sort and the dragons are frigging cute. Perfect to read with smoll children around and I would go so far to read this as a family so you can have discussions about the message behind the stories with the little ones but also with other adults. It really lends it for that, at least it would in my family. Or we would just bicker about what dragon is the best.

The Tea Dragon Society is such a lovely quiet story. It's a shame it isn't translated to my language because I would love to read this with my niblings. It has a message but that isn't really noticeable? I mean I can see myself discussing it with children and adults. What you take away from this story will differ on your age and experiences. Which makes this story such a lovely one.

My only criticism is the colour palet but that's more because of how the book is made. Some colours are very... washed out? You can see that different kinds of brown was used but because of the paper or how it was printed it's hard to differentiate the colours. Shame.

The Tea Dragon Festival Not a lot about the festival itself but I loved the rest of it!

Also.. the Mountain Chamomile Dragon? Cutest. Shit. Ever.description

The Tea Dragon Tapestry again not a lot of tapestry. The message was a bit more obvious in this one but the whole story felt a bit more mature. Not a bad thing because the characters are really loveable. Still I didn't connect as much with this one as the first two.

The art also changed throughout? Not really a bad or good thing but noticeable.

I was impressed with the illustrations, by Kay O'Neill, but even more enthralled with the stories she told in these three sweet graphic novels that make up the Tea Dragon Socety Box Set. (I recommend you read them in the order they were published.) The simple scenarios of the main characters, and of the many individuals they meet, are covertly, sexually, unidentifiable. This brought a realization of how much I imagine about a person by the way they look or in this case are drawn. The beauty of the graphic novel is that we have two creative mediums giving us room to explore equality.
As an added touch to the justice theme, the second book "The Tea Dragon Festival" uses some American Sign Language to communicate when, not only in the illustration but also the usual 'voice balloon' becomes a 'voice box'... just in case you miss the hand signs it in the drawing! Clever and instructional. Many interesting links and information are included at the back of the book.

I wished the publisher could have forseen that the darkness of the some of the printed panels was frustrating. I couldn't make out the details of some scenes or character. But the charm of the graphics outshone this flaw. Kay O'Neill will be someone I will want to follow for revisioning the graphic novel for younger readers-to-be and the elders that can introduce them to the bucolic and peaceful comic books.

The Tea Dragon Society: 4.25
The Tea Dragon Festival: 4
The Tea Dragon Tapestry: 4.5

This was my only real impulse buy so far this year. I just felt like I needed something cozy to warm up my winter. This trio of beautifully illustrated graphic novels did that pretty well.

Yes, I prefer books with a bit of substance, but don’t be fooled, there’s definitely substance within the pretty pages of this trilogy of graphic novels. The stories of friendship and loss are beautiful and I appreciated them for sure, but they did not quite touch me the way other stories have done.

Still, these graphic novels are a treasure and definitely give you that warm and fuzzy feeling, which is always very pleasant. Of the three the final book was probably my favourite, probably because it contained the most emotion for me, but to be honest I liked all of them quite a bit.

I would highly recommend these beautiful books. I will be reading them again with my daughter.

I don't usually count my graphic novels, but since I read all three of these, and LOVED them so much, i am counting them! The story is so sweet and gentle and full of hope and the artwork is lush, beautiful and entrancing! I hope I can remember what Minette learned: "You are the person you are meant to be. The years you worked diligently ... will always be a part of you. As will the years after when you felt lost and afraid. And so will the years to come, when the seeds you have been planting with your kindness and friendship will come into bloom. Everything that happens is part of your wholeness. The sadness, the loss, the hurt, as well as the joy, the love, the friendship - it is all part of your tapestry. Remember that you are already whole."

I have to say that I highly recommend the box set over the originals, if you can afford it. I have the originals on my office shelf at school and now I have the box set on my shelf at home (right next to Transmetropolitan because it is alphabetical not by content or age appropriateness). The originals are standard YA book size (like 8 by 6 inches) and the hardcover box edition is much larger (like 11 by 8 inches). The art is amazing (and bigger). The stories are phenomenal. It is a must read for my students when we talk about effective ways to address inclusion, representation, and respecting uniqueness in your writing, as well as an example of an overall well put together narrative that includes my favorite topic: TEA!!!

This is a very cozy, beautiful series. I love how the first book has an emphasis on keeping old traditions and trades alive. The next two books have much more magic and whimsy which was a fun way to get to know this world book one introduced us too. Great for all ages. If you haven’t read graphic novels or cozy fantasy before tea dragon society is the perfect place to start.

Representation: non humans referred to as they/ them, gay, wheelchair, deaf, displacement

Romance: implied, clean

Language: pristine
