Hannah Eliot is a children’s book editor who lives in Manhattan, New York. Her favorite activities include editing (of course), writing, painting, and doodling all over every piece of notebook paper she uses.
A descriptive brightly colored board book showcasing types of pumpkins. In this lively picture book we meet a striped pumpkin who shares how it is grown from a stem, a big green pumpkin growing near beans, a round striped pattern pumpkin excited about the fall. The pumpkins are drawn in an anamorphic format where each page they are aligned with various animals such as squirrels, ducks and frogs in which they celebrate the joys of fall.
The story rhymes in the tune of “I’m a Little Teapot'' that shows the importance of pumpkins with the season of autumn. Children will get a quick lesson in that pumpkins are not just orange but green stripped, round, small, large. The importance of the change of the leaves is emphasized and little ones can get an early lesson of the season of Autumn which is depicted here with the bright orange, brown and red leaves flying off the trees in a unison manner. Ms. Daviscourt illustrates so clearly and brightly the importance of the fall colors to the season along with showing how important pumpkins are to fall. Little ones will truly enjoy this story especially when sung with the tune “I'm a little teapot. Great for any children's room collection.
A diverse range of pumpkins sing about their colors and shapes, as well as the beauty of autumn around them in this cute seasonal board book from author/illustrator team Hannah Eliot and Anna Daviscourt. The rhyming text is modeled on the classic nursery rhyme, I'm a Little Teapot, and can be sung to the same tune...
I requested I'm a Little Pumpkin from my local library by accident, thinking it was a full picture book, rather than a board book. Despite that mistake, as a confirmed lover of all things autumn, I found it charming, and wouldn't hesitate to hand it to a baby or toddler at this time of year. The jaunty rhyme reads (and sings) well, and the accompanying artwork is cute and bright, capturing the wonderful colors of this time of year. I was familiar with Eliot already, as her Celebrate the World board book collection, featuring various holidays, was very popular at the children's bookstore I used to manage, but this was my first encounter with Daviscout.
I really enjoyed singing this little story to the tune of "I'm a Little Tea Pot." It had an educational element of showing that pumpkins can look different than the traditional orange look, and my baby liked the song.
2.5 stars, but I'll round up. This book was pointless, the rhythm didn't always work, and I don't know why any child or adult would really want to read this. But hey, there wasn't really anything bad about the book - just nothing good either.
Text that can be sung to the tune of "I'm a little teapot", but about pumpkins. M liked it, even though I think the target audience is younger. Cute read.
My grandson adores this seasonal play on the classic “I’m a Little Teapot” song. I read it over and over without him getting bored, and he enjoys Grandpa singing it to him also.
Great illustration of diversity in nature that translates to real life, too. I didn't realize the book was meant to be sung to the Little Teapot tune, but it adds a nice extra dimension to the book!
