Dang you Barnes & Noble for discounting all hard books 50% off after Christmas. I bought WAY too many. I scoured 4 different locations and always hit up the cookbook section. I may have purchased about 10 new cookbooks, one of which was the Emily in Paris Cookbook.
Listen, I don’t usually get suckered into kitschy books based on shows with lots of photos of actors but no joke, I have watched 3 total series (I watch sports 🤷🏼♀️) in the last 3 years and Emily in Paris is one of them. It is so good and I am unabashedly hooked so of course, I had to pick this up. I immediately put it down but came back to it an hour later. Carried it around for a bit and then put it back again. Thank goodness B & N ran a 2 day sale because I kept thinking about this cookbook and went back the next day and bought it.
Here’s the thing. All the little anecdotes and photos from the show actually diminish in comparison to the recipes and photos of food in this book. The cover is hideous and I may never display this book but I swear on all things holy that this is a solid cookbook.
All the well known, great French dishes are in here. They are for the most part, accessible to the masses and do not require a certificate from Le Cordon Bleu to make any of these recipes.
I have a LOT of cookbooks. I love them but some rarely get used. This one is getting used. It may not get display status but it will be opened and cooked/baked from. I promise.
There are some minor, editorial errors but you should be able to quickly figure out the mistakes and move past. The most blatant error being the lack of beef broth in the Beef Bourguignon (needs 3-4 cups).
Bottom line, kitschy cookbook but full of recipes and drinks that you will actually make.
An unapologetically authentic French cook book perfect for those both familiar and unfamiliar with French cuisine. This cookbook mixes cooking, pastry and mixology to enable you to create the perfect meal. The book is laid out beautifully and while it is based slightly off of Emily in Paris I would say this book is perfect for any French cuisine lover. The still shots from the show add some beautiful artistry to the book but do not distract nor are they overly emphasized. The conversion tables at the back enable the chef to further explore recipes after they try the ones in the book.
I honestly was not expecting such a high quality and well organized cookbook for one based off of a Netflix series.
Thank you for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Have you seen “Emily in Paris” series on Netflix? If you are a fan you may like this cookbook, which is a “Culinary tour of the city of lights.” Filled with recipes, pictures and comments this book will be a joy for Emily fans. It includes not only food related pictures, but also pictures from the movie. You will find more or less fancy recipes of food that Emily ate on the series. “From Gabriel’s Omelette and Pierre’s Cracked Crème Brûlées, to classic French fare such as Ratatouille and Pain au Chocolat, to American expat favorites including Quiche au Ciment (AKA Chicago Deep-Dish Pizza) and bacon-topped Cheeseburgers. “
A beautiful expansive full color book of French recipes based on the Emily in Paris Netflix series. The pictures of the food and drinks are wonderful, including the pictures of people and places in Paris. An amazing coffee table book that guests to your house will love to browse through and even steal from you. We will try many of these recipes although there are quite a few that do not appeal to our middle-class selves. The recipes are very well defined, and I like the way everything is presented. Easy to understand and incredible pictures. I showed the book to my new daughter in-law and asked her if she would be interested in it. She was actually beyond thrilled about it. Thank you to goodreads for the lovely free copy of this cookbook to review!
Interesting spread of French recipes based on the Netflix series, Emily in Paris. Well presented with suitable graphics from the series makes me want to try my hand at some French cuisine 🇫🇷
The cookbook includes over 75 recipes based on French dishes inspired by the Emily in Paris series. The cookbook is divided into the Le Bistro, La Brasserie, Le Restaurant, La Pâtisserie, Le Café, and Les Bases categories. Each recipe includes an introduction, ingredient list, and directions. Around half of the recipes include a photo of the dish, and I would have loved to see more photos of the food. The rest of the photos in the book are from the Netflix series, which I can see is what makes this an official cookbook. As far as the recipes themselves, some dishes would be easier to make than others, but I do think the cookbook would be better for those who are more confident in the kitchen. I could see the cookbook making a nice gift for someone interested in French cooking and the Emily in Paris series.
Thank you to Goodreads / the publisher for the copy! :)
Lovely photos and really approachable recipes - so excited to plan a dinner party around this cookbook. Everything is put together beautifully and the book manages to infuse so much of the charm of Emily in Paris into the pages.
Like most cookbooks not all the recipes are good. The omelette was amazing while the bœuf bourguignon didn’t come out to my liking. I Will be playing with it to make it more my own. In all the ingredients in most of these recipes are simple and don’t cost too much if you don’t have them on hand.
I loved the photos/stills of the show, a few of them were a bit grainy though so I felt the quality could have been better overall. I did purchase this book just for the photos and to check out the recipes, knowing full well I wouldn’t make any of them. All in all, I enjoyed flipping through it and would recommend for fans of the show or French cuisine.
