Riggins Brothers #2

Piece by Piece

Rate this book
Layla

Owen Riggins is too good to be true. The best things in life usually are. He’s good looking, generous and interested in me. Too bad someone like him and someone like me aren’t’ meant to be together.

He’s used to the best things in life, and I’ve grown up with the worst. Building a better life means working hard and staying on track, not falling for some sexy suit with a brooding stare who is just passing through.

Life has taught me not to trust, and even though I want him more than anything, I don’t need his charity or his love…

Owen

When a friend sends me to Florida to scout out a hotel, it’s the gorgeous waitress with a shy smile and worn-out shoes I can’t take my eyes off of.

Layla Massey is quiet, beautiful, and in need of a little help- even if she won’t admit it. A generous tip was meant to buy her some suitable shoes, not to buy her love. I want to earn that all on my own.

I’m used to women throwing themselves at me, the name, the money… but she wants neither. It makes me want her all the more.

Little by little, she opens up and piece by piece, she’s taking my heart.

2 stars. Another book that ends up being less than ok. The beginning is a little creepy with all the “Pretty Woman” vibes. The hero literally throws money at the heroine left and right and barely knows her before offering her the world. Very much love at first sight vibes with a lot of creepy rich guy thrown in.

Then, nothing at all happens until nearly the very end. It’s a little ridiculous just how little happens in this book overall. Like 50% of this book is just day to day nothingness. Finally, near the almost end, the drama gets HUGE and feels very out of place in the story. Like, holy shit, the author took this ending too far into psycho-land.

Also, the heroine acts like a total moron at the end, and I wanted to throat punch her while she was getting throat punched. Yep, that’s right, she gets attacked, (sorry for the spoiler) and I would have added to her misery for being such a damn idiot and not just lying and trying to get herself out of the terrible situation. She literally had chance after chance to save herself, but decided to try her luck with a beating and near rape. The biggest idiot award def goes to her. 🏆

Safety is fine overall. She’s a virgin, he’s not a manwhore but mentions past hookups a few times. No others for either of them in this book, no om/ow drama at all.

TW: Child abuse, child abandonment, child exploitation, extreme poverty, drug abuse by parent, attempted rape (on page), brutal beating (on page), unplanned pregnancy, pornography created and shared against heroine’s consent.

I read the prequel, Play by Play and the first book, Layer by Layer when they were first released and loved them. But I must have lost track of things because the next thing I knew I was looking at promo for book three, Kiss by Kiss. And despite the fact that these books can all be read as standalones I had to read this book first. Luckily for me it was on KU so I grabbed it and dove in.

Kaylee Ryan is such a talented writer. I love her books. And she has the ability to write really emotional books that wrap me up in knots or really sweet books that leave me with the warm fuzzies. This series is definitely the later and this book in particular has been a nice little COVID-19 lockdown escape.

Owen is the quiet, studious serious brother of the Riggins boys. So, I wasn't sure what his perfect match would look like. And honestly on introduction to Layla I wasn't sure it was her. Until we got to know her. She was sweet and a little broken, and watching Owen rebuild her self-confidence and self-esteem made me love him more.

Watching Layla find her strength in the security of the relationship was awesome. And naturally we got all the steamy hot chemistry plus all the feels. Plus, the full Riggins family press. And heaps of Sawyer and Royce. And now I have the next book locked and loaded on my kindle for tomorrow's reality escape. Toodles

OMG!!! BE STILL MY BEATING !!! This book was soooo good!!! I absolutely loved the first book so much but somehow it just gets better and better!! I am completely OBSESSED with the Riggins family!! Literally, it is everything I could possibly want in a book and more!! ALL THE SWOON WORTHY ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!

This is the second book in the series and is Owen and Layla's story. Owen is your serious, sexy, and sweet second oldest brother. He never thought he would settle down until he meets Layla and experiences the "magic". The magic is what the Riggins brothers call it when they encounter the love of their lives. Layla is your independent, hard working and sassy women who has been on her own since the age of eighteen. She has had an extremely rough past and does not trust easily. I loved how Owen took care of Layla and made her life better. I loved how Layla fought through her fear and opened up her heart to him. Their love story is so beautiful and I am so happy they got the HEA.

I was completely captivated from start to finish. I wholeheartedly recommend this book!! Can't wait to read book three!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

⭐️ 4 "Lean On Me" Stars ⭐️
Since the first novel in the Riggins Brothers Series released, I’ve been utterly charmed by this family. I couldn’t wait to see another one of the brothers fall in love and Owen’s book was certainly enchanting and sweet!

I’ll disclose right away that I felt Owen and Layla’s romance was a little too insta-love for my taste, hence the four-star rating. That being said, I really enjoyed the easiness of their relationship. This couple shares an instant connection, but Layla is hesitant. She’s been trying to stay afloat for years, never building any real relationship and Owen certainly makes her question her choices. Owen’s perseverance in his courtship is truly admirable. This sexy man is just so appealing on the inside out! He’s attentive to her reluctance and is determined to prove to the woman she’s “the one”. They’re adorably beautiful and steamy together!

I cherished every moment shared between the Riggins siblings. There’s never a dull moment between the five of them, that's for sure. They’re also very accepting of the new woman in Owen’s life! This family is really incredible and I can’t get enough of all of them!

Piece By Piece was a pleasant, highly romantic love story! I need more of the Riggins brothers and can’t wait for Kiss By Kiss!

I couldn't wait to start reading this book as the first one was fantastic. This book is part of the Riggins Brothers Series and it was awesome catching up with all the characters and the brothers.

Layla was an amazing beautiful woman who is very strong and very independent and brave. She has always had things very tough and has always struggled with money and some times life has been hard. She was working as a waitress with shoes that were crippling her feet when she met Owen. He started to come into the restaurant every single night and leaving extremely generous tips, he could see her struggle and he wanted to help anyway he could.
Owen is a man that I just loved. I loved his protectiveness, how much he cared and the love he had inside for the people he loves. Owen is a looker is easy on the eyes and can have any woman he wants, but the lady he wants is her. Owen makes Layla an offer she cant refuse, but is it to good to be true?

I've enjoyed reading this series right from the get go. I love how this author has written her characters and the family dynamic between the brothers. I love how this author writes and love her style it always pulls you in. Owen and Layla have an instant connection and the chemistry between them both is hot. Once they met its like, they were always truly meant to be. The Insta love was a tad to quick for me though and I wanted to see them maybe date more it all felt rather sudden, but they just knew so who can argue with that lol. I love reading about the Riggins brothers and I cant wait to read about the next brother in the family.

This is a great instalove with an uptight CFO Riggins brother who meets what he never knew he was missing in Layla. Layla has had the most heartbreaking upbringing and completely captured the attention of Owen. Their story is a sweet instalove wish will fill your heart and provides you a surprising uh oh twist after everything gets established. While this is a standalone it was fun to see this build up from the first and see the characters as they progress and where they are going. The flow of the story is perfect and I can’t wait to read about the next three Riggins brothers (assuming they will all get their stories).

5 Stars!

Whew boy, I absolutely adore this series and wouldn't you know that the sweetest, swooniest Riggins brother is up on the chopping block. Let me tell you a little secret about this guy, he has zero issues giving up his heart and it was... everything.

Kaylee Ryan never ceases to amaze me with her beautiful words and this brand new release might just be my new top favorite. Piece by Piece was a sexy, swoony, emotional, intense, fast-paced romance that had me on the edge of my seat in so many moments and wondering where are all the Owen Riggins of the world?!

Owen and Layla, what a pair they were and so right in all the ways (even the complicated ones). Her the girl just trying to make ends meet and be someone. Him a rich, powerful, yet gentle and deep man that wants to be her everything. One moment. One decision. Life is going to change for both of them and nothing will ever be the same again.

Y'all, all the feels and all the heat. I adored Owen for everything that he was and I rooted so very hard for Layla, in every moment she needed it. This book, this couple... you've just got to meet them.

I highly recommend this book.

Owen Riggins may just be my favorite Riggins brother. He is caring, protective, loving and just a giant teddy bear.

Layla works hard for everything she has in life. She may be struggling but she doesn’t let that get her down. She just continues to fight back harder. I loved her strength and her determination throughout this story. Owen comes from a loving family, he works hard and always as his brother’s and parents supporting him. He’s got a good head on his shoulders and a whole new side comes out when he meets Layla.

The chemistry and connection between Layla and Owen is instant. Owen didn’t want to push too much in fears that it would completely push away Layla. Layla was hesitant because she has never had anyone in her corner and so supportive of her. Everything moved quickly with their relationship and that gave Layla even more hesitation. I loved that Owen continually fought for her and supported her and encouraged her with everything.

Their relationship wasn’t all easy. There were some personal barriers they experienced, but there was also some other drama that occurred and gave the story a little more. I also loved the brotherly relationship between the Riggins brothers. They fighter, they love and they will always have each other’s backs no matter what.

Piece by Piece is a MUST READ and I can’t wait for more of the Riggins family!

OWEN RIGGINS! SWOOOOOOOOON. My goodness, I am so in love with this series. Kaylee Ryan never fails to deliver on feel-good, swoony, sweet but sexy love stories that give me all the butterflies. And Piece by Piece is just the dreamiest- everything I adore and am addicted to about love and romance.

Our more mysterious, reserved brother Owen gets the love story this time. While on a work trip in Vegas, he meets sweet and hardworking Layla, the waitress in his hotel restaurant. Something about her calls to his protective nature- and suddenly the work-obsessed, industrious Owen wants to obsess over something other than his job. He goes out of his way to find time to be with Layla- to woo her- and she increasingly has a hard time denying her budding attraction to the bearded hottie that keeps coming to her restaurant. But can this last? Owen is just a visitor and has never been serious about anyone, and Layla doesn’t easily trust- her past has shown her just how dangerous it is to rely on someone else, to need someone else.

If you thought Royce was sexy, you haven’t seen anything yet! Because our quiet and stoic Riggins brother is DELICIOUS. Turns out Owen is a sweet but possessive alpha- his hyper protectiveness and valiant knight chivalry just swept me (and Layla) right off our feet. He is just DREAMY- the perfect combination of tender sweetness with exaggerated alpha. I love that he protects and supports Layla while also wanting to empower her, to give her independence and the chance to live the life she deserves. He’s so patient and empathetic- taking the time to get to know her and her needs, to listen to her, and he respects her wishes. And Layla is just the cutest- she’s kind, she’s resilient, and so caring- but she’s also got a bit of sass and quirkiness to her that makes her even more charming.

These two are from totally different worlds and walks of life- and their love is definitely an instalove, but the chemistry Kaylee builds for them is so strong and compelling that you really believe it. She gives them enough foundation, enough time to solidify the relationship that the instalove feels authentic. There's a tenderness, a gentle intimacy between - in part because Kaylee gives them such genuine emotional moments, with the narrative focusing almost entirely on just the two of them. Their trust progresses really naturally, there’s a gravitational longing between them, like they each have found their other half at long last. The half that accentuates the best in each of them. I just could not stop SWOONING. And, of course, we also get some time with our favorite Riggins crew (and get to check in on Royce and Sawyer). These brothers just SLAY me - they are fun, witty, sexy, and so flirty, I just can’t wait to see each of them find their lady.
The story took some surprising turns, adding a bit of suspense and drama to the sugary sweet connection between these two- but don’t worry, the angst is low and the drama is all external. Kaylee always keeps plots interesting and page-turning without overdialing the angst. I just loved everything about this story!

Owen’s father talked about the “magic”- and that’s how I feel about this series and Kaylee Ryan books in general. There’s a magic to her story telling- a glittering spark that just pulls you right in and gives you all the squishy feelings about how sweet, gentle, and straight forward love can be. This series is definitely my favorite of hers and just keeps getting better. I am officially a Riggins brother addict- and I can’t wait for more!

I am SO IN LOVE and I am utterly charmed by the Riggins family. I LOVE this series! I have to say that I ADORE Kaylee Ryan’s stories and Piece by Piece is no exception! I just love how her words flow so effortlessly, and how she makes me fall in love with every story she writes. And her heroes are some of the most swoon worthy I have ever read. Owen Riggins is everything I love in a Kaylee Ryan hero, and was perfect in very way. I could gush about him forever! Layla and Owen’s story was simply the dreamiest, the swooniest and just everything I adore and love about romance. I loved every single moment of their story.

Kaylee Ryan has a magical quality to her storytelling. It immediately hooks you in and what she does when it comes to the chemistry and connection between her characters displays just how sweet and gentle love can be. This series is definitely a top favorite and just keeps getting better and better. I can't wait to read about the next Riggins brother Grant in Kiss by Kiss.

WHY IS SHE SO POOR

Layla is a struggling waitress who meets Owen when he's on a business trip scouting the hotel that houses her restaurant. It seemed ridiculous how poor Ms Ryan made Layla. Layla works long hours, at one point in the book she's working a 9 day stretch with several double shifts. Layla has been a waitress at the restaurant for 7 years so she must be decent at her job. The restaurant has a VIP section so I would assume good tips. Despite this, Layla is so poor that she can't afford new shoes, a cell phone, or a decent apartment. Even eating Chick Fil A is a treat for her. Where does all her money go? Are we really expected to believe that she works that much to barely afford food and rent? I kept waiting for an explanation (like medical bills or her mother opened credit cards in her name) but it never happened.

Layla ends up moving back to Tennessee with Owen but frequently has doubts about being good enough for him and his family. I felt like the drama with her mom was a little over the top, but I'll still read the next in the series.

I really liked Layla and Owen’s relationship. And the Riggins family moments were definitely the highlights of the book. The only aspect of the book that bothered me was how repetitive it was at times. Things also seemed to stay surface level with everything beyond the romance

Sometimes, between the darker romances I read, I need something lighter in between. I can always count on Kaylee Ryan when I want a sweet corny romance with a touch of suspense.

"I’m no one to him, yet he continues to take care of me. It’s overwhelming the feeling of being seen. Not just being seen, but it makes me feel not so alone in the world."

I read Beat by Beat first and knew I'd want to go back and read the other brother's stories!

I'm really glad I did. I loved Owen and Layla's story!

Owen was a huge teddy bear with a loyal and giving heart. The second he saw Layla, he knew she was meant to be more for him! He was done watching her struggle and believed she deserved more than the hand life had dealt her and was determined to help her in any way he could.

“I’m sorry you were dealt such a shitty hand at life.”
“I’m doing okay,” I say, shrugging. “There are rough times, but all I have to think about is where I came from. How I’ve gotten where I am on my own, and it gives me the strength to keep pushing through. Even on the days when I let the thought of giving up filter through my mind, I keep fighting my way through life.”

I’m so torn on this one. I kept thinking, this is so not believable! But then I would think, but it’s a romance book so duh! This is Owen’s story. The second oldest Riggins brother. Owen was stand-offish in the last book so we don’t know a whole lot about him. We just know that he’s the dependable one. He’s the one that his younger brothers call to pick them up when they are too drunk to get home and he won’t give them crap for it. And we meet Layla. She is a tough woman just because she has to be. She has had a rough life growing up and is on her own. Then she meets Owen and he offers her the chance of a lifetime. This was definitely an “insta-love” book. Like you can’t get much more instant than this one. That’s why I had a hard time believing it and Owen’s family accepting it so easily. It just seemed too good to be true. For the longest time while I was reading this I thought I was going to give it 3 stars. But about 3/4 of the way through it just kind of clicked for me and I was enjoying it a lot more and I believe the relationship between Owen and Layla. Towards the end it got kind of predictable but it was still an enjoyable read. And I fell even more in love with all the Riggins brothers, Sawyer, and their parents too!

Owen and Layla are just the best. I really loved this story. Owen, the grumpy bearded hero. The numbers guy who just wants to do best by his family. Connection outside the family are not easy for him. When he experiences the “magic”, that connection he is all in with out looking back. Layla was such a thoughtful character. She did not dispute the connection but she went forward cautiously. Owen is a hero with touch as a love language He need to feel her connection and know that she was in the moment with him. It wasn’t controlling, it had this care about it.

Virgin Trope can be a hard sell at times. Layla was a virgin out of self preservation. She knew what she was capable of and what the consequences would be from that kind of intimacy and being that she as scraping to get by and working all the time relationships were not something she did. Who Layla is and her past made her view the world with some skepticism and her trust in humanity was limited. Owen accepted that and moved at her speed. The slow burn did nothing to squash the chemistry and attraction between these two, if anything it made the connection that much better. This is a absolute MUST read!

Piece by Piece by Kaylee Ryan is the second book in The Riggins Brothers series and features Owen Riggins. When Owen meets Layla, the attraction is instant and undeniable, but Layla is not a woman who trusts easily. While Owen has had a good life filled with love, Layla has struggled and fought for everything she has. He is caring and charming and she is strong and determined. Owen just seems too good to be true. I loved reading about them and watching them fall. Their story was sweet and emotional and had all the best feels.

Layla has had a tough life. Running away from her family at 18, she has been waitressing and trying to make ends meet for the past 7 years, but when a gorgeous man sits in her section at the hotel restaurant little does she know her life is about to change. Owen immediately feels a connection and wants to help make her dreams come true. Will Layla open her heart and let someone in? Can two very different people connect so quickly and find true love? Not only did Kaylee Ryan create characters the reader instantly falls in love with but she also intertwines the real sense of family within the brothers. I want to find my HEA with a Riggins brother!! This is a must read series. I cannot wait for more.

Second Riggins brother is alpha-hot!

Welcome to the second book in Author Kaylee Ryan’s Riggins family series, and let me introduce you to the hot as all hell level-headed second brother, Owen Riggins, the Chief Financial Officer for Riggins Enterprises. It’s not necessary to read the first book, or the prequel first as they are all stand-a-lones, but you would get to meet the recurring characters and develop and rapport with them for sure!

These Riggins brothers have such an amazing family, and two for two so far, the ladies for different reasons have had no one in their corner except the Riggins men who’ve taken a shine to them. In Layla’s case, she escaped a mother whose drug addiction was only one of her issues, and hadn’t looked back since. I admired her honesty, her independence, and her hard work ethic. It would’ve been a dream come true for her to be accepted into a family like Owen’s because his mother especially, is a legend!

I’ll be honest, this is very much a sugar-sweet rags-to-riches story, but holy crap, Owen Riggins is alpha-hot, and what a story! It’s insta-love turned on high, so remember, this is escapism at its best. I thought Layla was down to earth and just as level headed as Owen, and if there was anyone who deserved to have an amazing man fall in love with her then she was my number one pick. Trouble is, unwanted family have a nasty way of turning up like bad smells, and the book veered onto a darker path that had me going for just a bit!!!

Yep, this second story is every bit as good as the first, and I know I’m looking forward to the next Riggins brother to fall ... in love. 4.5 Stars for another piece in the Riggins family series 💋

The couple: Owen and Layla

Romance genre: contemporary
Series: The Riggins Brothers
Length: 255 pages

Plot: Owen is in Florida to look at a potential investment for a friend. While there, he meets Layla, a down on her luck waitress that captures his attention. He convinces her to come home with him and take a new job that will give her some breathing room. That move, though, sets in motion events that will have Owen and his whole family protecting Layla from forces trying to destroy her.

Commentary: This book, like the previous in the series, is pretty low on angst and drama. The majority of it is over the top sweet, and given Layla's rough start to life, I was really cheering for her to have that happy-ever-after that Owen wanted so desperately to give her. I was actually surprised that the crisis towards the end was so dramatic! In the last book, the crisis at the end was some silly, easily-solved OW drama. Here, though, it was something a little darker. I loved how when Layla was finally awake, she made sure to help Grant overcome his guilt about what happened to her (which was of course in no way his fault). She's a keeper!

Previous book in the series: Layer by Layer
Next book in the series: Piece by Piece

It was so great to get back in touch with the Riggins brothers. I was on pins and needles waiting for Owen's story.

Piece by Piece was such a sweet story that fell on the insta-love side of the spectrum but after a while I just went with it and enjoyed the ride. Owen was pure marshmallowy goodness and so sweet and caring, I just wanted to rub myself all over him. And Layla was such a strong heroine, a real warrior, that took the reigns of her life in her hands and forged onwards, fighting for everything she's ever had in her life. She fought so hard and for so long that when Owen entered her life and simply wanted to give her the world, she tried to fight it, not trusting anyone but herself.

But aawww, when they fell? It was sweet and heartfelt and I just want a guy like Owen telling me all the mushy stuff and then whispering dirty, dirty things in my ear.

The pacing of Owen and Layla's relationship was a bit on the fast side for me, with the insta love, since I'm not really a fun, but I trusted in Kaylee to give me what I need to balance the insta love, and she delivered. There a pinch of suspense in there as well, that I was not expecting but gave the story another dimension.

I simply can't wait for the rest of the brothers to arrive but after this book, I want Marshall to get his HEA. But, Grant is first and I'm here for it. I want more family banters and all the making fun of the latest of them to fall in love.

Rather than let her past define her future Layla has chosen a different road and that is to overcome it. She has learnt from a young age that the only one she can count on is herself and isn’t afraid of the hard work and financial instability to get there. She is isn’t looking to be rescued but when Owen comes into her life, he shows her a life that she had only ever dreamed of.

Owen was raised in a loving yet affluent home and has always know that he has the support of those he loves. He hasn’t been interested in love or a relationship but when he meets Layla she inspires feelings in him that he has never felt before. He knows that she is special and wants to protect her and that means convincing her that they are meant to be partners in life and love.

This is a sweet and sexy story about two people who come from very different backgrounds but prove they are so much stronger together than apart.

Love and family found

Commence the eye roll, but I have to admit this story grew on me. The eye roll reference? The guys are just too good to be true. Me a hardcore romance reader found them a tad clingy. But it worked.

Owen is the second oldest brother, the serious one. Arriving in Florida to look at a hotel he’s stopped in his tracks when sees Layla a struggling waitress at the hotel. He knows there’s something there, and he persists daily arriving to eat there. Always sitting in her section.

Layla’s wary, she’s run from a bad life and loves week to week barely making ends meet. The handsome stranger who always tips big has her wondering why.

From here it’s overload mushiness, these Riggin boys don’t do slow. They know the minute they meet there forever.

The only negative thing I have is trying to reconcile them as running a multi billion dollar business. It just seems off. You’d think there’d be more people, or at least a huge office. I know it’s a small thing but it bugged me.

Apart from that it was a great feel good read.

Ever since Owen Riggins was introduced in the beginning of the series, I sooo needed his story. Owen, the quiet, observer, serious of the Riggins bros is away on business at a hotel where he meets Layla, a waitress. Very independent Layla who is living paycheck to paycheck and trying really hard to make things work. There is something about her that Owen feels uber protective over. He feels this connection with her, he can't leave her.

It was really sweet to see this side of Owen. Layla was a good addition to the series. The Riggins brothers are such a great group of guys. They go above and beyond for anyone important to one another. There is a little bit of suspense in this story. I can't wait for the rest of the brothers!

Layla and Owen belong together. Layla just won't admit it just yet. Two different backgrounds, that somehow work together.

Layla is a waitress who has worked hard her whole life. She don't need charity or love from anyone, or so she thought. Then there's Owen. Owen is one sexy man and has a lot of money to throw around. Piece by piece Layla is touching Owens heart. Layla finds it hard to trust Owen. Can Layla get past her trust issues and let Owen in? Will Layla and Owen move on together?

I absolutely loved Piece By Piece. Kaylee Ryan writes with such emotion, it pulls you in and won't let go. I love the Riggins brothers. I recommend you read this book.

Listened this via hoopla. I enjoyed the narrators for the most part except when the male narrator was doing the female voice.

The love of this couple is just too sweet. There relationship happens fairly quickly but it fit them! I loved watching them fall in love and how their relationship grew.

The MFC has trust issues but the author did a great job of making it seem real and not over the top. She has some drama from her past come up and I’m impressed with how logical and mature she handles everything.

It’s the first of the series I’ve read and it make me want to go back and read book 1! I would definitely listen to this again so that makes it a 5 star for me!

So I really like Layla and Owen both from the start. Layla is fierce and determined to do it all on her own when Owen walks into her life. Owen is in town for business and Layla definitely intrigues him. I was shocked by how quickly Owen becomes protective of Layla. They have a super sweet start and it take Layla awhile to get that Owen wants her no strings attached. I love how protective all the Riggins brothers are and how they group around her to take care of her no matter what. Super sweet story and worth the read.

This was the perfect follow-up to Layer by Layer. I loved how Owen was all in from the beginning with Layla. I was rooting for her to find the family she had always wanted. I should warn there is a short but kind of graphic assault scene in the book, so be aware. I am loving this series and can't wait to read the next book.
