Outfitter Chelsea Bishop understands the Shenandoah Wilderness. She appreciates its beauty and its danger. So when a client and his guide vanish during a backcountry camping and rafting expedition, she knows she'll need an expert's help to find them ... just so long as that expert is anyone other than Jake West, the man who broke her heart a decade ago.
Jake West sacrificed his personal happiness for the greater good a long time ago. The former pararescue specialist lives to save others, and he's damn good at it, too. When the only woman he's ever loved walks into Potomac Private Services, he refuses to assign the matter to anyone else.
Jake and Chelsea plunge into the wilderness together to find the missing men and land smack in the middle of a criminal conspiracy. When a storm rolls in, they're cut off from the outside world and in danger from ruthless criminals, the harsh landscape, and, maybe most of all, the memory of the passion they once shared.
Forced proximity and second-chance romance meet fast-paced suspense and gripping action in the fourth book in USA Today bestselling author Melissa F. Miller’s Shenandoah Shadows series.

The second trilogy in this series gives us Jake West, who is the Boss of Potomac Private Services and Trent's best friend, and Chelsea Bishop who is Olivia's cousin.
**Mild spoilers if you haven't read the first three books** We found out in the earlier books that Jake and Chelsea used to be an item many years ago. They hadn't seen each other in years until coming together during the harrowing times Trent and Olivia were going through.
Now, even though she doesn't want to, she goes to Jake to ask for his help when she realizes one of her employees with her outfitter business has gone missing along with the man he had taken out on adventure. Neither realize that they are about to get themselves embroiled into a nightmare that puts both their lives in danger.
During this, both Jake and Chelsea have to come to terms with their hurt over how things ended between them in the past. Both think the other walked away but clear to see there was perhaps a lot of misunderstanding.
Plenty of action and suspense as with the first trilogy.
150 pages is not a book. A book has a beginning, middle, and an end. I guess authors or publishers think they can con folks into buying more sections. Not me, it just makes me not trust them.
Stopping the story at a critical point and then requiring the reader to buy the next book to finish the story is unfair. I won't read another book by this author.
This isn't a book. It's a few chapters in the middle of two other books. In order to complete the story, you will need to buy the preceding book (or books) and the concluding book (or books). I hate that this concept has become okay in the publishing industry because to me, its not only annoying but a waste of my valuable free time.
No spoilers here because you’re left on a cliff-hanger, the ‘story’ doesn’t finish, just leads to you buy the next book in the series. I read a lot of self published books, often in series format. This is the first one I feel I have been ‘cheated’. As it happens it was a free download, but because I feel I have been tricked I won’t be buying any more from this author.
A nice quick read with not a lot of extra fluff. One of the employees of Chelsea's outfitting business has not checked in on schedule. She sets out to find him and his client only to discover a satellite communicator sitting on a rock. Fearing the worst, she rushes to get help from her friends at Potomac Protection Agency. Instead of her friends helping out, Jake West, the owner, takes it upon himself to accompany Chelsea. There is history there, and that is the only part of the story that annoyed me. Just speak up people! There would be no hurt feelings if you would only speak up! All in all a decent enough book, but nothing so compelling that I would feel I had to rush out to read the next...and I do hate cliff hangers! That almost makes me NOT want to read the next.
I couldn't put this book down. I was captivated from the first page and wrapped up in Chelsea's and Jake's world. I gave this four stars because the book ended right in the middle of a scene and I was offered the next book in the series. I have never read a book with a worse cliffhanger, and after only 135 pages. I purchased the rest of the series (Books 6-9) to flow through the story. Aside from the obvious marketing ploy, the writing was good, and the story kept my attention. I am a sucker for a good romance, adventure, and strong characters. I only hope that the rest of books are as intriguing as book 5.
Chelsea and Jake had a romance ten years ago that ended with both of them thinking the other quit the relationship without telling the other. Now Chelsea owns an outdoor excursion company and Jake owns a private security company. Chelsea needs help finding her employee and his client. She calls Jake's company hoping to get her cousin but gets Jake. He comes to help her and sparks are still there between them. This is a short book that ends in a cliffhanger like the others in this series but it's not a long wait for the next book.
Why hasn't Chelsea's Employee Checked In With Her?
Will Chelsea turn to Jake to help her solve her Dangerous Mystery, despite their past? How do Criminals, and severe Weather contribute to their Search & Rescue Operation in the Shenandoah National Forest? If you enjoy Action/Adventure or Romantic Suspense 📚, then I Highly Recommend You 📖 This Story!
This 📘 continues with characters from the 1st 3 📚 in the Series. It's best understood, when read in chronological order. Also, this Story ends in a "cliff hanger"; so don't be surprised. ❤️📖 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Four books into a five book series and just one volume away from the finale. So far we've seen a CIA officer burned, a former military operative charged with murder and attempted murder, and a cousin whose business has endured a kidnapping and through it all Trent and Olivia have solved or helped solve murders, espionage and corruption of the highest order. And now Chelsea, Olivia's cousin, has been nabbed by her field guide and assistant manager. Wondering what happening next. Well, get reading on book five!
Series continues with a fourth book mostly about Chelsea and Jake, introduced in the first three books - This one has a SERIOUS cliffhanger (so I've already preordered book 5) - an outfitting trip gone bad leads to suspenseful story which force Chelsea and Jake to work together. Love this series, quick easy reads with likable characters!
I would have given it. Five Stars because it was a great book till the last page. I HATE CLIFFHANGERS. If you have a book this good people will read the next one. But I will not read the next one if the last line is a cliffhanger. It ruins the book. The characters were top notch as well as the storyline. But that’s the way it goes.
Chelsea is an outfitter in the Shenandoah Valley. When her guide and a rich paying customer go missing, she knows she needs help finding them. Jake, an ex-boyfriend and a former military medic also has a rescue service. She definitely needs his help. Short story, good characters and plot. Over too soon. I rate this a 3.5.
Was enjoying it until the end. Incomplete story went from a possible 4 points to a generous 2 points. This book is just a few chapters of a story. I am not going to buy the next few chapters just to find out what actually happened and what happens next. Not worth it. It is very annoying when writers do this. I should have read the reviews ɓefore getting this book.
Another entertaining read. I am loving this new series and cannot wait to see what happens with the next installment. The build-up to the cliff hanger was well done. Loved the history and can't wait to see what comes of Chelsea and Jake's story. Fast, easy read with lots of action.
The first thingThis was a short, fast paced book that kept me wanting to read more. A little mystery mixed with a little romance, and then a big cliffhanger that had me wanting the next book!
This book stops in the middle of the action. Unless you read all the "books" or rather chapters in this series, there is no end. I used to love this author, but this was a waste of my time.
Great story, but it ends too abruptly and entails getting another book to find out what happens next. I hope this is a limited series rather than a never-ending story.
She wtites a good story that captures me right from the start and I’m turning pages to find out what is next. Can’t put it down. This moves quickly with a lot happening. I really enjoyed it except for the ending. Typical of Authors who want you to read their next book. 5
A new twist and new beginnings for an already amazing series. The story is gripping and fast paced leaving the reader craving for more and the cliffhanger of an ending certainly doesn't help ;)
Storyline continues to grow into an amazing nail biter. Wanting to continue to read until the end because I have to know what happens to each of the characters.
