He can find the negative in any situation. Like that time he got upset with the woman who brought him a free chocolate-and-caramel-covered apple because it had melted in his truck... Can William and Gretchen start over and make a healthy relationship after it's started to wilt?William Cooper doesn't mean to see red the moment things start to go bad. It's the red hair, he swears. And the fact that his attention is pulled in a dozen directions, every day, all day. He just needs a break—and when he finally gets one, he almost sits in melted caramel and chocolate.Anyone would be upset by that, right?Maybe not everyone would then gripe about it right in front of the woman passing out the free apples. That just makes Will the wicked warlock of the west. When he goes to apologize to Gretchen Bellows, a premier chocolatier in Sweet Water Falls, he's struck by her beauty and kindness. Yes, she overheard him, but she appreciates his humility, and when he asks her to dinner...she surprises everyone and says yes.Gretchen has more than enough on her plate, from an ailing father, a brother going through a divorce, and a busy business to run. But as she carves more and more time into her life for Will, she starts to realize what a good heart he has. It's just buried beneath that somewhat forked tongue. When her chocolate shop catches fire, Will's right there to help...but also to criticize the clean-up. He's quick to realize what he's doing and try to fix it, but can Gretchen put up with his grumpy attitude, or will she have to admit that their relationship has gone stale?
3-time USA Today bestselling author Elana Johnson writes adult contemporary beach romance. She is the author of over 130 books across two names, and there's nothing better than sun, sand, and swoon-worthy kisses! Unless it's a sweet-and-sexy cowboy - read those under her pen name of Liz Isaacson. Or an emotional, heartfelt women's fiction novel - read those under her pen name of Jessie Newton.
This is a great romantic read! A lovely story about two people who knew each other long ago and didn’t act on it but find each other again later on! William is what we call a negative ninny who finds the wrong thing in any situation whereas Gretchen is a lot more positive despite what life throws at her. It’s a great western romance that’s sweet and has its funny laugh out loud moments and a hea maybe??
I liked Will and Gretchen as a couple. Both have very busy lives. Will is a 40 year old cowboy and Gretchen is a 37 year old candy maker. They are set in their ways and when Gretchen has a crises and Will starts questioning how it is being handled it drives a wedge between them. They need to learn how to lean on each other and learn patience and love will follow.
I totally LOVE this series! This time up it's Will Cooper's turn for some romance, but his first run in (literally) with Gretchen is far from romantic, especially when he yells and storms away! But Will's non-stop thoughts of Gretchen make him want to do better and try again. After several failed attempts to connect with Gretchen, Will finally asks her to go on a date. And then changes his mind! This strong cowboy has a soft side to him, and it's up to Gretchen to help Will embrace it. But does Gretchen have time for Will with her hectic schedule working long hours taking over her candy shop, caring for her ailing father and aunt? Only time will tell. And right when things look like they could be smooth sailing ahead. . .a few twists! I highly recommend this clean cowboy romance with its crazy loud cowboy family, humor, heart, and so much more! I received a complimentary ARC of this book and have voluntarily given my honest opinion in this review.
This is the second book with our Sweet Water Falls Cowboys. We were introduced to our couple in Book One. Will has a sweet tooth, or used to. A health scare made him cut out sweets and start living a healthier lifestyle.
Gretchen owns a candy shop and Will is willing to indulge a little to make excuses to see her again. This couple has its share of ups and downs while traversing their way to a HEA. Will is busy on the farm so Gretchen gets to do some chasing like making the Farm one of her suppliers just for an excuse to see him each week. Will does his share too of visiting each day and even sneaking away from the farm occasionally (yes his family makes sure to give him grief).
Once again, we will get a nice segue into our next couple. I enjoy how even when a book centers around one couple we readers get to learn more about the Cooper families. Each book gets better, I'm really looking forward to the next book.
Oh man, I love this loud, unfiltered family of hard working cowboys. Will tends to say what's on his mind and it's usually about things he knows or wants to know. He's never shown being out-right rude in his speech... Ok the name-calling thing was rude, but he thought he was venting into the empty night. Most everything else he does shows he's considerate and capable and super hardworking. He just also a bit grumpy when things don't go as planned.
Gretchen is kinda holding her family together... at least she feels like it. She helps both her sick dad and sick aunt with their everyday needs and errands. She works SUPER long hours building up her business and keeping it going. It's nice to lean on Will when she can... mostly... In her own moment of frustration things go bad for them...
The Grumpy Cowboy is the title given to Will Cooper. He was 40 years old and single. Living on the Cooper farm helping with the milking and agriculture side of the business is a long day of work 7 days a week. But the day he meets Gretchen Bellows his life changes. She helps him show a different side of his self that he usually did not show. But the one thing Gretchen knew was she wanted to be inside his arms for the rest of her life. And things was going great till she takes a day off from her candy store and it catches on fire. Will did everything for her that was needed and tried to make it easier on her. That sounds nice till she tells Will to stop coming everyday asking her all kinds of questions she didn't know. So he does just that. He then goes back to being the grumpy cowboy in front of his brothers, but shows Rissa a different side, the side that was braking.
Lee Cooper is the grumpy cowboy who's pre-diabetic and finds it hard to control his addiction to sweets as well as control his temper. Gretchen Bellows is the candy making, slightly clutzy women who keeps ruining his shirts. The first time they meet, she runs into his chest with caramel. The first time she hugs him, her hands are all muddy. Nothing seems to go right when they are together, but there's enough electricity between them to almost make them forget that fact. This book is delicious-again no pun intended! You'll love the fast paced craziness and swoon worthy scenes, as these two travel a very bumpy ride. Been enjoying this series very much and can't wait for the next read - The Surly Cowboy to come out. Thank you Elana Johnson for a very entertaining series!
I spent this whole book just wanting to hug Will tight. He’s got a tendency to see the glass as half-empty instead of looking at it the other way around. He’s also the middle child in his big, boisterous family which makes him feel like he’s always performing a balancing act to keep everything going. Gretchen’s got more on her hands than one person should reasonably be expected to deal with as well. I found their story to be a lesson in prioritizing the things that really matter to us. Will and Gretchen needed to find the time and energy for their relationship between all the other demands on their time. They also had to decide how important being “perfect” was. I think I’ve gone and fallen in love with the Cooper family, and I can’t wait to read even more about them. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.
Will is nearly 40 and he's been working on the family farm for his entire life. His father rules the roost and his mother has been battling cancer that is wearing her down. He loves his family and the farm but he's ready to try romance again with Gretchen. Both are older and have spent their lives working. Now both are ready to move forward with their personal lives and they are attracted to each other. It's a sweet romance, with a couple a bit older than some romances.
It's enjoyable, perhaps a bit unbelievable, but you'll enjoy reading it.
I was provided with an advance reader copy by the author. This is my honest review.
Wayne Cooper had way too much influence over the way his sons behaved. The words of a country song kept repeating in my mind, “Momma tried, momma tried”. I’m sure Chrissy Cooper tried to tame her sons’ temper and grumpiness but Daddy’s influence was too strong. Will Cooper was a good guy, just he had no filter and what he thought came out of his mouth. However, I do think Gretchen was too hard on him. I loved this story by Elana Johnson and the give and take between Will and Gretchen and Will and his brothers. I am looking forward to the next book and finding out if Lee can quit being a popsicle in Rosalie’s presence.
Absolutely LOVE this series, these Cooper Cowboys are AWESOME, not perfect, kind of loud and in your face, LOVE them!! Will is kind of adorable, and Gretchen is a wonderful match for him, and balances him! I love that she makes candy and he is prediabetic so does not really eat much of her creations. I recommend this book to anyone who loves clean cowboy books, and even if you don't... This one is great, I LOVE the side animal characters of Gretchen's cat, and Will's mom's dog. Will and Gretchen have some to overcome in this story, and it is a HEA.
I had an Advance Readers Copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Elana Johnson has done a fantastic job with the characters in this book. She has a way of making ordinary people with everyday flaws into great characters. I really enjoyed reading this book. Three brothers, this book about Will who can’t get a date with Gretchen without some embarrassing event happening. Great plot and related themes in this book including parents with declining health. I highly recommend it.
William, one of the Cooper brothers, and Gretchen, a sweet maker, meet at Shayla's big tent reveal, and William wants to take their relationship further, but he doesn't leave the ranch much, there's so much work that needs doing all the time. He decides that as his brother has found the time to meet and get engaged maybe he can too, but things keep getting in the way, also he gets very cross and grumpy, something he blames on his red hair! Can he manage to get less grumpy for Gretchen? Can he find the time to spend with her?
Will is grumpy because he works a lot of hours and has a lot of responsibilities. He meets Gretchen when he runs into her and she spills a tray of caramel apples down the front of his shirt. He looses it and leaves. He later goes back to apologize.
Gretchen is running her aunt's sweets shop and taking care of her father who is sick. She also has a lot of stress in her life.
I loved this story. Will and Gretchen must learn to be patient and work with each other. To not run off when things get tough.
this is a very good story he is always working with the cows she runs a candy store his mother is sick and her father is in bad health can they make things work or will work and parents get in the way. his family is not quite but hers is . can another miller brother find love and try to control his temper . it is a lovely story i was given a copy of the story but this is an honest review
Grumpy (Loveable) Cowboy! Will works on the family dairy farm and Gretchen owns her own candy making business. Between their work and family commitments it’s hard to carve out time for each other. Their love is worth it but sometimes it just seems too hard to make it happen. You will love the interactions with their families. You will be able to catch up with the other Cooper’s that you met in Cross Cowboy and Risky Cowboy. Don’t miss this latest clean romance from Elana Johnson!
I received an arc and the views and opinions are my own. I really liked reading this book, it made you laugh and it kept your interest. My favourite part was when Gretchen gives Will a caramel apple at the beach and he puts it in his truck. What made me laugh was where he places it because you know what is going to happen. This is a story about a man with a temper who is trying to be calmer and he wants Gretchen to like him. I would recommend this book and cannot wait for the next book.
William lives with his family on their dairy farm and rarely makes it to town. Gretchen tripped and smeared caramel all over the front of William’s shirt the first time they met. He hasn’t date in years but wants to get to know Gretchen better. He’s grumpy but Gretchen sees the sweetness inside. *I received this book for free for my unbiased review.
This book has it all, friendship, family and vulnerability. Gretchen & Will may not be perfect but they are perfect for each other. Once you start this book you won't want to put it down, the pages will just call you right back! Looking forward to Lee & Rosalie’s story next. I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book.
It is delightful to read about a romance between a couple beyond the bloom of youth. Not that they are old, of course. Both are settled in their life but need more...love. A wonderful, clean romance filled with family antics. Thanks to the author for providing a copy for my voluntary review. I look forward to reading about the oldest Cooper brother and his romance next.
I loved Will and Gretchen's story and how they interact together. Despite Will's grumpy personna, he loves Gretchen even though he sometimes misunderstands her responses. I like the other family characters also. I received an ARC of this book but voluntarily leave this review.
Loved Will and Gretchen was a sweet heart. He has a soft side when he is with her and is trying to not be so grumpy. She did irritate me when tragedy struck - thought she could have been kinder to Will but loved how it played out. Sweet romance and growth individually and with each other. Great series.
The Coopers are a loud and rambunctious family. I love that they are so well defined, each with his/her own personality. Will and Gretchen certainly have a tumultuous relationship. And it was great to see the ups and downs, the joy and disappointment as they worked things out. I love how they learn to deal with their new awkwardness.
Will works hard on his family’s farm/dairy everyday. He literally runs into Gretchen and gets covered in a caramel apple from her candy shop. There’s some history here. Nice transformation from grumpy, opinionated and loud to loving man. Well written and another beautiful story to enjoy! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book
This was another very interesting story about Will and Gretchen. Gretchen owned the candy shop in town. Will worked on the farm , he and his brothers ran. Large operation, kept them all busy. Gretchen literally ran into Will at the drug store, spilling her candy samples all over him. A bad start but a happy ending.
I think series is almost finished. I have loved each book. The characters are presented in one book and play a part in the following books. WillCooper, this is how Gretchen always says his name Will Cooper as if it is one word. Seems like they are an accident waiting to happen.
This book had me laughing and crying at the appropriate moments. I thought the characters were well-written. The setting was easy to step into. And it's a clean, sweet romance which I found to be balanced. I really enjoy reading Elana's writing and plan to keep on reading.
I enjoyed this story. The characters are great! Will is like a lot of us he overthinks things. Gretchen has her own hang-ups. Can they work things out and get out of their own way. You will have to read this great story to find out.
