This pairing is parts one and three of the four-part series, which I did not discover until after completing the book. It's an odd pairing, because the narrative arc of the suspense plot runs over the complete series. When reading the second story in the book, some of the references suggest you missed something. Apart from that (which was likely a publisher decision), these are good stories. The setup of the first is great - a ex-con put away for murder, falling for the sheriff who put her away (and later freed her), while they try to find the real killer In hindsight, the evidence against her was weak, but that's looking away from the story (and, sadly, the opportunity for social commentary on the issue of wrongful convictions was missed). The tensions of their relationship combined with the common romantic-suspense subplot of trying to stay alive while someone is trying to kill you for reasons unknown make a strong story. The second story is milder - a second chance relationship and a MacGuffin - but still satisfying.

I finished this book. It had 2 books in one. I liked both books/stories as they both were connected to each other and they both were very good to read. They both were full of action and excitement. I finished this book for the 2nd time early this morning and loved rereading it very much.
