Een duiftastisch leuk boek over Echte Duiven die boeven vangen!
Ik vind duiven normaal rotbeesten (sorry, ik weet zeker dat iedereen die in een flat woont het met me eens is), maar ik vind het wel leuk om boeken over ze te lezen, vooral als de duiven dan ook nog eens criminaliteit tegengaan. En deze was gewoon superleuk om te lezen en ik lag regelmatig helemaal dubbel. Het was echt mijn soort humor.
Dit boek bevat niet een verhaal, maar drie! In het laatste verhaal komen de twee slechteriken van de eerste verhalen samen en hebben ze weer een doldwaas idee en mogen onze duiven weer ze tegenhouden.
Het eerste verhaal is voornamelijk een introductie naar onze duiven. Onze hoofdpersoon is Rots, hij kan echt supergoed vermommen. Zie je die mooie bos bloemen? Grote kans dat het Rots is die weer een nieuwe vermomming aan het uitproberen is. Dan is er nog Pozzie, hij weet altijd precies waar hij is en waar hij en de duiven heen moeten. Ontmoet Tuimelaar, deze duif houdt van tuimelen en is enorm lenig tot het punt dat je dubbel ligt omdat ze echt in alles weet te komen zelfs de kleinste kier. Vervolgens is er nog Curly onze supersterke duif. Helaas werkt de superkracht wel op braadworstjes, dus zorg ervoor dat deze duif gevoerd is.
Ik vond alle duiven, ook de oude duif met een stok, erg leuk en ik vond het erg leuk om te zien hoe ze hun krachten uitvonden en uitprobeerden.
De verhalen zijn erg leuk en voornamelijk gefocussed op eten en mede-dieren helpen. Maar ze helpen ook mensen, want tja, die zijn toch degenen die het eten geven. :P Ik vond het met elk verhaal leuk om uit te vinden wie de slechterik was en ook om te zien wat voor plannen onze duiven hadden om de slechterik tegen te houden.
Het boek is heerlijk geillustreerd, echt overal zijn illustraties en ze vertellen vaak ook een stuk van het verhaal. Het boek is dynamisch en erg vlot te lezen door deze leuke illustraties. Ik vond de duiven erg leuk getekend, wat passen ze goed bij wat de schrijver heeft geschreven.
Ik wil nu alleen de rest van de boeken! Helaas zijn ze niet te vinden in het Engels op Amazon/Book Depository, dus ik hoop maar dat ze snel uitkomen in het Nederlands.
Echte een aanrader als je op zoek bent naar een grappig, hilarisch, duiftastisch boek!

Diese Taubentruppe hats als Ermittlerteam einfach drauf, musste beim Lesen viel Schmunzeln.
Die Sätze sind eher einfach gehalten, dafür haben es die Wortspiele in sich - würde es ab einem

This was such a quick and fun read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Rock and the Real Pigeon crew as they solved crimes in the city. I was pulled in from the first page all the way to the end. I enjoyed Rock, the master of disguise, and how determined he was to always help out the animals he met. He was a comical character.
Also on the crime-fighting pigeon team: Frillback who was a super strong female pigeon, Tumbler who was known for her ability to bend and fold in any way and finally Homing who was the "director" of the crew. All these pigeons had their moments that cracked me up.
This is broken into a three-part story that flows together seamlessly. Part one is called The Great Bread Crumb Mystery in which the pigeons had to figure out what happened to all the bread crumbs and humans in the park. I loved watching them figure out the culprit and solving the crime. The crows were a funny addition to the story.
Part two is called The Bat Trapper in which the pigeons had to help save the bats from being trapped. The bats played at night, but they were always caught in traps. There were two solid suspects, but a third was found and it surprised me. The bats were such silly characters.
Part three is called Danger at the Food Truck Fair and it's about the pigeons stopping the villains from part one and two, Jungle Crow and Megabat, from ruining the food truck fair. I didn't really care for this story, but it did a perfect job of setting up for the sequel book.
My son thought it was awesome as well. He enjoyed the illustration and was able to follow along with no problem.
I can't wait for the release of the final two books, because these are just fun, quick and easy reads that will make you laugh. Definitely would recommend.

Wie heeft zichzelf weleens afgevraagd wat het nut is van duiven en wat zij dagelijks doen in je tuin of in het park? Duiven hebben een hele nuttige taak: ze vangen boeven, vleermuisjagers en redden een kermis van een stinkbom. Dat had je vast niet achter duiven gezocht!
Duif Rots, de kleine blauwe vogel op de omslag, is een meester in vermommen en samen met zijn vrienden Curly en Pozzie lost hij mysteries op. Waarom? Rots en zijn vrienden vinden dat ze mensen moeten redden van gevaar en enge situaties moeten oplossen.
In het eerste deel, het grote kruimelraadsel, stelt Rots zijn medebewoners op de boerderij voor. Ze vinden Rots maar een uitslover. Rots trekt zich daar niets van aan en gaat samen met Grootkropper, de oude duif, het raadsel oplossen. Een beetje eng vindt hij dat toch wel, maar met Curly en Pozzie erbij wordt door gebruik van hilarische op elkaar afgestemde tekst en illustraties, een heus duivenhoofdkwartier, niet samen delen en een beetje spanning plus chocola, het vreemde verdwijnen van de kruimels in het park tot een goed einde gebracht. In het tweede deel is er een vreemde vleermuisvanger en dan blijkt er een gevaar op de eetmarkt in deel 3. Er is veel te bekijken tussendoor het verhaal in dit eerste deel van ‘Echte duiven vangen boeven’.
Dit boek heeft heel veel zwartwittekeningen en is zeker geschikt voor stripboekliefhebbers.
Het heeft een vrij drukke opmaak, maar wel lettertypen die goed te lezen zijn. Het boek is overzichtelijk ingedeeld in drie verhalen met afzonderlijke hoofdstukken die ongemerkt in elkaar overlopen. Voor de jonge lezer die niet van lange stukken tekst houdt, zal dit zeker een aanrader zijn en heeft deze ong. 8-jarige wel een heel groot boek in handen. De verhalen bevatten humor, lezen vlot weg en voor de fans: in maart komt het tweede deel in de winkel!

Fun addition to the world of early chapter highly illustrated fiction. Easy recommendation for kids who like Bad Guys, etc. The book is long- broken up into three separate acts. Parents will likely appreciate this. Wasn't my favorite, but I appreciated the interior design. The illustrations, while wild and wacky, did not detract from the easy readability of the text in its well-chosen font and size.

I love this hilariously silly and very pure series about crime-fighting pigeons. It has everything – a flamboyant master of disguise as our lead, THREE deceptively simple but gripping mysteries, and the naughtiest baddies you've ever seen (who definitely get their comeuppance). Perfect for kids as young as 5, but entertaining for any age group!

Well in this book, they most certainly are and the results will entertain kids and adults alike, while tickling their funny bone. With great illustrations, this will be certain to attract kiddos just getting into chapter books. – Jen K.

I can see what McDonald is trying to do here - if you have kids that have enjoyed WeirDo, The Bag Guys and maybe even Tom Gates, then this might still be worth picking up. But the plot and the characters were just really lacking for me.

Felsi ist eine Taube und lebt auf einem Bauernhof. Ihr spezielles Talent sich zu verkleiden, wird dort jedoch nur belächelt. Eines Tages taucht Master Kropf auf und bietet Felsi an, in einem Team zur Verbrechensbekämpfung eben dieses spezielle Talent einzusetzen. Felsi ist skeptisch, nimmt jedoch das Angebot an. Zusammen mit den Tauben Locka, Bringer und Tümmel erlebt er dann Abenteuer der besonderen Taubenart.
Tauben als Helden? Wenn man durch die Stadt läuft und sieht, wie die Tauben nach Krümeln picken, kann man sich so etwas gar nicht vorstellen. Doch die Autoren schaffen es, ein Heldenteam der taubigen Art zu kreieren.
In 3 Geschichten erleben wir Abenteuer, bei denen das Team "Die knallharten Tauben" ihre verschiedenen Talente einsetzen, um Verbrechen aufzuklären.
In der ersten Geschichte "Das große Krümelmystrium" wird Felsi von Master Kropf rekrutiert und nimmt erst einmal probeweise an dem Fall teil. In dem Park, in dem die Tauben normalerweise leben, ist kein einziger Krümel mehr zu finden. Felsi findet heraus, dass er menschenleer ist. Und wo keine Menschen, da auch keine Krümel. Aber warum? Felsi und seine neuen Freunde müssen nun herausfinden warum.
Mit entführten Fledermäusen hat Felsi es in "Die Flederfänger", der zweiten Geschichte, zu tun. Wohin sind die Fledermäuse verschwunden? Und warum ist es eigentlich so cool, eine Fledermaus zu sein?
In "Das Foodtruck-Festival" droht eine Stinkbombe zu explodieren und dabei will das Team doch eigentlich nur in Ruhe zu Abend essen. Hier wartet eine besondere Aufgabe auf Felsi und sein Talent, sich zu verkleiden. Doch wie verkleidet man sich als Mensch, wenn man so klein ist?
Die Idee zu dem Buch finde ich sehr süß. Die Tauben habe ich allesamt ins Herz geschlossen, weil sie mit ihren unterschiedlichen Arten und Talenten einfach perfekt zusammenpassen.

Leider hat dies dazu beigetragen, dass ich mehrfach den Lesefluss unterbrechen musste, um mich genauer mit den Bildern zu befassen. Die Kernaussagen waren teilweise nicht gut getroffen.
Ansonsten haben mir die Geschichten sehr viel Spaß gemacht. Der Ideenreichtum der Tauben (bzw. der Autoren) war genial. Die Tauben gehen als Helden hervor und bekommen die Anerkennung, die ihnen so lange verwehrt blieb.

Voor de jongere/matige lezer zal dit een erg leuk boek zijn. Tekst wordt vaak afgewisseld met tekeningen en deze tekeningen zijn vaak ook onderdeel van het verhaal. Hierdoor lijkt het soms meer op een strip dan op een leesboek. Het verhaal is geschreven vanuit 'Echte duiven' en zij vangen boeken, gaan op zoek naar een vleermuisvanger en redden de kermis van een stinkbom. Iedere duif heeft zijn eigen kwaliteit waardoor goed samengewerkt kan worden. Leuk om zelf te lezen, maar ook om te luisteren.
Persoonlijk vind ik het perspectief van de duiven grappig, maar de verhalen niet heel bijzonder geschreven. Dat het drie korte verhalen zijn in plaats van één is leuk gedaan, maar de hoofdstukindeling in de drie korte verhalen zelf vond ik niet van toegevoegde waarde. Zelf werd ik heel snel afgeleid door de tekeningen en de verschillende lettertypen. Maar goed dit boek is niet voor mijn leeftijd geschreven, maar voor kinderen vanaf 7 jaar en voor deze doelgroep zijn ze wat mij betreft geslaagd.

REAL PIGEONS FIGHT CRIME is a hilarious and entertaining cross between graphic novel and picture book. The book is told in three parts, with each being its own inclusive story with a conclusion. The Real Pigeons are crime fighters who recruit Rock from off the farm for his ability as a master of disguise. The team solves crimes in the city in a way that is delightfully fun.
The images are sketched with plenty of comedy and animals. These pigeons are unbelievably expressive, and this will make the book appeal to young children a lot. The text is really easy to follow, as it is written picture book style, with dialogue written out rather than just in speech bubbles alongside the narration. However, there is relatively low word-to-picture ratios, so it is graphic heavy, which will appeal to young or reluctant readers.
Overall, these are clever little mysteries that can easily make young readers laugh in parts and in whole. I would definitely love to see more of this delightful series.

I had to do some research for a graphic novel project, so I ended up reading this book. I read the Spanish version, "Pandilla Paloma", divided into three different episodes.
Even though the target audience is still children, the author doesn't underestimate them. The story is smart, it has great dialogue and the structure is interesting. There are plot twists, cliffhangers and all the things that a "regular" story / screenplay is supposed to have. And it does feel like a script, it has A LOT OF unnecessary explanations that should've been something visual, and some are obvious. There's a lot of text and it could've been edited.
I have to say, I missed the color. The characters and their expressions are great, the stories are funny, the only thing lacking is the color. I felt like I was reading an old newspaper cartoon, which I loved, but graphic novels are not usually like that nowadays.

This is a great new illustrated series for independent readers featuring ‘Rock’ - pigeon, adventurer, master of disguise.
In three inter-connected stories Rock and his new crime-fighting friends solve the crimes affecting his new home: a city park.
With crows, bats and photographers Rock and his ‘Real Pigeons’ keep the park free of mischief.
The final story is explosive and there is some great phrases and language for younger readers.
My favourite feature of this first book in the series would have to be the illustrations. With clearly developed characters and expression young readers will enjoy these.
A series for all pigeon lovers and readers of ‘The Bad Guys’. - +5yrs old.

Just fine... It was recommended to me "for fans of Dory Fantasmagory," and it pales in comparison! The kids were interested, but I don't think any of us feel the need to keep going with the series.

OK, so *I* haven’t read this book, but my kid (age almost-8) got it last night and is already on p. 114. He got home from school today and picked it right back up. “I love this book,” he said. So there you have it. Perfect for kids who liked Bad Guys and Captain Underpants.

Aangezien mijn man een duivenmelker is, sprak het idee van duiven in de hoofdrol mij aan.
Het is een grappig boek met veel tekeningen. Iets om eventueel eens cadeau te doen aan de kleinkinderen.
